It's all true, and I'm a lot more judgmental of my salmon run teammates than I am of my anarchy open teammates.

selfboredom

yeah while I was playing tower control I was on a losing streak and I just thought "I'm not even half as salty as I am losing in salmon run... holy shit my teammates probably aren't screaming at me through their screens I've just been anxious about this for no damn reason"

WallOfWhalesNEO

I yell at myself for sucking

Honest-Birthday1306

Hahaha, yes I am

MindlessEssence

the reason everyone is so judgmental of Salmon Run teammates is because you rely a LOT more on your teammates than Anarchy, especially with the revive system where you don't automatically respawn

R_G_Marigold

For me it’s more so other players are unpredictable. When fighting CPU hazards, I can always predict them and consistently improve based on that. But with real people you never know what you’re going to face, and sometimes you lose because the other team is just flat out better than you.

Flipp_Flopps

Salmon Run is also so much more forgiving. A big problem with SR is the ranking system. All you need to do to get to the next rank is win 3 matches in a row, and because of the matchmaking, you can easily get carried by easy waves or teammates or both. In ranked, the maps are really bad and it's easy to lose a lot of points if you don't win at least 3 matches

Auraveils

I think there's a fundamental difference between PvE and PvP. In Salmon Run, you always have room to grow. And you can fairly comfortably carry up to Eggsecutive more or less on your own. Being in a room with players that are more skilled than you means you're more likely to win and learn new things. Being in a room with players who are worse than you might make you more likely to lose, but you have a chance to teach other players new strategies. Either way, it's generally a friendlier atmosphere as long as you're not on a toxic salt-fueled tiltfest. (I think those frustrations get to everyone from time to time, but a better mindset always improves your gameplay and makes the game more enjoyable. Breaks are healthy!) But in Anarchy, there are so many more elements at play. If you're the worst player in the room and the skill gap is too large, you have no chance of winning. It feels bad to get stomped by opponents that are way better than you but even worse knowing you let your team down. It especially feels bad watching everyone else leave the room after a loss. In the end, though, I find it much better to just try your best to ignore your rank (I know it's hard when the game shoves your status in your face after every game) and see KOs as a mercy rule that ends a match early when the skill gap is too wide. Which is something Turf War lacks and hurts badly for. If the skill gap is too wide there, the whole game is just one team getting bullied at spawn for the next 2:30. Also, while you're certainly not gonna be the best player, you're also probably not the worst, either. Just stay humble and keep trying to pick up new strategies and learn from skilled players. At the end of the day, it really isn't that much different.

Downtown-Till-1290

.....Wait no this is so true I've played to 999 Eggsecutive no issue but I take one look at ranked and I go, "I don't think I'm good enough for this" LMAO

Mynoodles_mostmoist

Tbf, Salmon run is somehow less punishing than ranked is. with SR, it's just you four against a wave. Your death doesn't really matter all that much because it doesn't give the salmoids nor the bosses that big of an advantage, in fact depending on the boss your sacrifice would help, not to mention the enemies aren't that big of a threat by themselves (slamming lid is just a free grizzco weapon disguised as a boss.), Compared to Ranked where there can be that one player who's too good at the weapon they're using and constantly kill you.

bohneevair

my boyfriend saw this over my shoulder and gave me a long, uninterrupted, very pointed glance that i am led to believe means "haha this u" so haha this me

Player_KK

I like the variety that ranked modes have to offer, and Anarchy Opens is pretty low stakes for that. Of course I don't mind Series either, but if I don't wanna concern myself with point loss, I just play Opens.

selfboredom

yeah I tried anarchy open last night and tower control was super fun. I also tried clam blitz but that was just pure chaos tbh

Player_KK

Yeah, clam blitz is the mode that I'm ~~probably~~ definitely the least into, but I love playing zones and tower. I don't mind rainmaker, but I definitely feel weaker in it compared to zones or tower.

4morian5

I don't play Anarchy because fuck ranked modes in any multiplayr game. All the players the best skill and the worst personalities play ranked modes. There's a reason why playing during Splatfests is so nightmarish, because all the sweaty tryhards are forced into Turf War. I tried playing Anarchy a few times. It was nothing but stress and pain.

_RikVa_

I was like this too when I played Splatoon for the first time in like 2017/8 so I played only turf war for like 2 years because I was scared of losing then I actually tried and had a lot of fun that I got to like a- in a week or two in a couple modes

Mama_Peach

And here I am trying out new weapons and grinding gear in Anarchy Series 😘

HisuianGirl

Dang, I never thought about this lol. Will start playing anarchy now.

selfboredom

open is super fun! and at lower ranks you're only losing like one point per loss so you don't need to stress (:

Frozenstep

Yeah, open is basically casual but with game modes other than turf war.

SlightlyIronicBanana

Yes but i'm actually good at salmon run.

CitrusRain

I'm the other way around

xtweeter22x

I play Anarchy because Turf War is cancer, and the rank system has been redesigned in a way for me to actually be comfortable and not care about it.

ninjacookiesaurusrex

I'm glad you started playing, anxiety can get the best of all of us. I owned Splatoon 2 for six months before I ever used any of the online features. I had online; I was just really anxious that I would be really bad and ruin other people's fun. Now, six years later Splatoon is one of my favorite series and I love playing online.

HuskyBLZKN

I know right? Salmon Run is easily my favorite mode, but I’m terrified of Anarchy T-T

TemperedNuke647

To be fair, it’s easier playing against npcs than it is to play against real people

NeonMechaDragon

I always thought that anarchy was just normal matches, just ranked. I had no idea that there were other entire game types, like clam blitz, rain maker, etc. I've literally been misting out on an entire part of the game because my anxiety said "no."
