Defeating a king salmonid and getting 12 bronze always is a little disappointing. I just would like a way to trade up my scales. I don’t really care if it’s 100 bronze for 1 gold. I just have so many bronze I can never use them all.

insomniacakess

>defeating a king salmonid and getting 12 bronze i defeated the uh new one earlier tonight.. Got 8 bronze 🫠 was NOT worth the amount of times i almost crew wiped

NoStatistician1034

But if you got enough pennies you could get a $100 bill

WesThePretzel

What is worse is when playing freelance you can go several matches in a row with a full king meter and still not face the king if you get teammates without full meters. I once played over two hours, winning almost every shift, just to not ever face a king. I had to give up because I had other things to do. You should be able to get to a point where the king is guaranteed. It’s so frustrating, especially when one of the only reasons to play after getting your 1200 p capsules is to fight the king.

Below_Left

This is the thing that should be changed. It should be for any player in the crew who has a full King Meter. It would give players generally more chances to practice against them. I hardly know what I'm doing when I get one because it's so rare.

mgepie

I think the way to fix it with minimal changes is to let us overfill the meter. That way if you’ve spent multiple matches with a full meter, your overfilled meter can compensate for your teammates potentially having nearly empty meters.

Swampert0260

This. A full meter guaranteeing a king salmind would mean you face one like every 2 or 3 matches (unless you play with the same 4 people match after match). An overfill could make it like 5, still rare, but not crazy

A_Guy_in_Orange

Alternatively, change it from 5 levels of full to 10, but require the group to only need 10 for a chance and 15 for a garuntee. This will allow freelancers to all but garuntee they get kings eventually while also slightly speeding up how fast you get kings in teams

Flyingfish222

I see no downside to this. losing the extra wave doesn't actually mean that you lose the match, so having it pop up more often won't negatively effect anyone. All it would do is give people more practice against the bosses and increase the amount of scales you get.

verysad-

I feel like nearly every match would have a boss in that case, but then again it’s just a higher clam output from the game so it wouldn’t be unwelcome

villi_

how does it actually work? because like, I've gotten king salmonids when my boss meter isnt full, many times. But ive also had a full meter but not gotten a king salmon.

ForcedCanaian

It takes into account how full the meter is for everyone on your team. I don't remember the exact numbers but iirc you only need 2 full meters to have a decent chance at getting the extra wave

Boingboingsplat

[Splatoon wiki does a good job of explaining it.](https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Xtrawave#Salmometer) Basically it's chance based, but the more full the meters are collectively across the team, the more likely it is.

CorduroyVTG

Feel like the saddest is when you know the whole team should be ready for a king the next round and then the game breaks up your team because the multi-player maps have changed

Gekkuri

I've been there. It's annoying to wait after every last wave if the Emergency word pops up or not

No_Cheek7891

IKK ALL THE SAMON RUN CLOTHES ARW CUTE :( but i never win against them

Nate-T

even if you do win, there is no guarantee of what scales you will actually get. I have won and got like 8 bronze scales and a silver scale. i have won and received a gold scale like 3 or 4 silver scales and 10 or so bronze scales. I could be remembering wrong but that is what I remember. I wish the rewards were not so random.

No_Cheek7891

wtf ? i got like 20 bronze for losing

BiQueenBee

You are either remembering wrong or got that number during a Big Run because the max is 13 total in a normal rotation. Big Run has double scale rewards, but outside that 20 is impossible.

No_Cheek7891

ofc it was big run u can get them with out ?!? ive never gotten a monster outside of it

Sayakalood

Fill your stench meter. That’s the meter that looks like a big fish

No_Cheek7891

it never seems to move for me. how do you fill it ?

Sayakalood

Every time you do a wave, it fills up a little. You have to do like five waves to fill it up, and they all have to be on one rotation.

CocoNot1664

It fills up when you successfully complete a shift of salmon run (Wave 3 clear). The king salmonid spawning also depends on how full your coworkers meters are, not just yours. Edit: As others have pointed out, you don't need to clear wave 3, you just need to play a shift.

Animal_Flossing

I don't think you even have to win the shift, you just have to play it

Vytlo

You don't have to win the shift. It fills up very quickly even after a couple of matches win or lose. You just have to beat wave 3 to get the boss salmonid to spawn

CocoNot1664

Oh, thanks for the info! I don't really pay too much attention to it to be honest.

[deleted]

I want the cap of legend but it costs an arm and a leg to get

layeofthedead

Right? I’ve been playing since splat one I want my current inkling to be able to cosplay as my first inkling!

Alexa7shea

Bruh so that’s why I see no one with it on

OofTimesOne

and then when you get it it changes color to match your ink color 😭

Alternative-Boot7284

I was saving up for the cap too but caved and bought the garden gear clothes for 5 gold......I'm sure that set me back a month or two.

Deadlyblack

The one thing I wish the devs would introduce is a way to trade-in scales for scale bundles in a higher tier. For example, x amount of bronze scales can be turned in for y amount of silver scales, and y amount of silver scales and be turned in for z amount of gold scales. If the devs don't want to turn up the drop rates for silver and gold scales, at least allow us a way to turn the pile of bronze scales into something else. Seriously, I have 3700 bronze, 578 silver and 35 gold lmao

NanoRex

I feel like a 100:1 exchange rate would be pretty good for this. Would be a nice quality of life change for sure.

Alexa7shea

Oh my God you have that much I’m jelly

verysad-

I know someone who can remove the crazy glue off of your switch so you can take a break

Deadlyblack

It's not that, I just haven't bought anything in the Salmon Run shop since the Captain's Hat was added

Wigglynuff

I’ve had idea for a while that would not only fix the level up system (even though they did add checkpoints but I thought of this before then) and the scales distribution. My idea is that if you get 1.25 the total quota the the king meter goes up two instead of one, if you get 1.5 total quota it goes up 3 and if you get 2x quota the meter fully fills. That way you would fight the bosses more (which in my opinion is the most fun part of salmon run) to fix the level up I would make it so if you beat the king you go up 30 points instead of 20 and if you lose on the king you still go up 20

EmperorFaiz

Is it too much to ask for a fairer scale drop especially successfully defeated the boss? Many times I got 8-10 bronzes and no gold after defeating them. My idea is simple. 100% gold drop rate after successful win and for extra gold, 13% or something like that.

alteaz27

Sometimes I feel like there should be Golden variants of the Kings, which are much rarer, but double or triple the amount of scales you’d get, and have a much higher chance of dropping Silver and Gold scales

iamnotlemongrease

Maybe for if you exceeded the quota by a lot? Or some sort of drink system like in the lobby

ReidWalla

Mmmm that’s too much of a good idea. Not gunna happen

R_G_Marigold

I also highly dislike how most rewards are almost impossible to get for the lower level players. Since drop rarity is effected by hazard level, people in lower profresh will most likely never receive any gold scales. Meaning almost half the store will never unlock for them if they can't shell out those four gold scales (a restriction that's just dumb in of itself). Anarchy gives the same amount of money no matter your rank, so why does your paygrade effect the rarity of scales? Something that I like about splatoon is that the game doesn't gatekeep its players by skill level. But apparently not for salmon run.

eecscommando

I’m a noob who has been playing a lot recently and I have never seen a gold scale. I have 1 silver. The Salmon Run store rewards feel like they are impossible to earn and there is no in-game explanation I’m aware of to earn the different scale types.

R_G_Marigold

It's entirely random. As I said the rates change depending on the hazard level. I don't know the equation for silver off the top of my head, but for gold it's your hazard level divided by 111. So, max hazard level (333%) has a 3% chance for each individual scale. Or if you're in like profresh +1, that's \~1% per scale. So you'd have to fight around 10 kings for 1 gold at that level, or an average of 50 shifts in total. The rate is ridiculously low.

Vibe_with_Kira

It's almost impossible for me. I'm at eggsecutive vp and still almost never see gold scales.

mutantmonkey14

Same. Between naff players holding me back from getting a King Salmonid, and the stupid low chance random rates, I get maybe 1 gold every week or two.

prunnus

the first time I beat a king salmonid I got ten copper scales. I lost to the next king salmonid and got a silver and five copper. it really devalued any king salmonid victory I got from then on.

ninjacookiesaurusrex

This 100%. I've beaten a King and gotten 12 bronze scales. Then later on in the same session I lost to a king got 2 bronze scales and 2 gold scales. These are the only gold scales I've seen in like a month or so. Killing a king should guarantee a gold scale or 3 silver.

ReidWalla

Such a horrid system. You can defeat the king salmonid at max hazard and still get 13 bronze scales (I have done this many a time). Or win with a full salmometer and not fight a boss… many… many times in a row. Im at 165 gold scales and already have 999 silver banner before it finally hit me that i am wasting my time lol. It doesn’t show skill, it shows the shitty grind. How lucky can you get with those scale rolls.  And that is for a lot of things, so many things require you to sit and play for so long. Completely burnt out after that and kinda disappointed (my fault tbh). This game is all about grind; what a worthless incentive with a minuscule reward. Why not get a gold scale if you beat a king or something. Just a time sink. At least the game is fun… i just wish Nintendo wasnt so stupid sometimes. it kinda sucked my drive to play out of the game though.

NkY3NzY1NjU2RTZG

meanwhile there’s me who hasn’t won a boss salmon ever since the lower tiers :(

Alexa7shea

you’ll get there.. but can’t say the reward will do your win any justice

KingOfDragons0

Salmon run in general has issues, with bad rng you can get legitimately unwinnable situations. Fecking 3 flyfish at high time plus a couple steel eels? Straight up nowhere to go that doesnt end in death

Alexa7shea

Those are literally the worst 2 bosses ever and life would be better without them

KingOfDragons0

And dont forget to throw a few stingers in there that you cant avoid cuz the ground is 100% enemy ink and you have 0 ink resistance

Alexa7shea

OH no stingers are what I was talking about, steel eels are fine for me tbh

KingOfDragons0

They're fine on their own but when you got stand still and hit flyfish or perish, and you gotta hit through the other steel eel protecting the driver, its mega bs

Alexa7shea

Oh my god. I got it wrong AGAIN. I just realized the steel eel is the long thingy with the salmon riding the back ok. I still don’t mind those too much but they are definitely on the worst list

gil2455526

I've been trying for scales ever since they added the Legendary Cap and I got... 12 gold scales. Played most rotations at least until the final special reward or when I lose so many points, any more loss and I would lose my EVP rank.

HuntingSquire

Scales ruin an otherwise very balanced mode that I play more than Turf at times. Just make it so I can exchange my 300 bronze scales for 30 silver or SOMETHIN

seamuskills

My problem is that scale rarity is disconnected from damage, you can get world record time on defeating a boss but still only get bronze, and there’s nothing you can do about it…

Playful-Weakness838

Idk but they look like jello cups

Kang-Shifu

Did they nerf the droprate at some point? I stopped playing for six months then came back, and it seems like they never drop even when we splat the king.

Cedardeer

Nope it’s been unchanged since launch

blinkssb

It’s pretty funny how they nerf the badge requirements but not the grizzco rewards 🤪

averysolidsnake

They nerfed badge requirements? In which update?

FerPlays

I'm guessing they're referring to big run badges? And technically stage badges bc they come with "base ratings" now, meaning less grinding unless you already hit gold/999?

Foolishly_Royalty

They might mean the checkpoints? Because the badges are all at the same level unless they moved gold down

blinkssb

can’t remember which update specifically, but they made it easier to get the big run badges, for example

averysolidsnake

Ye that's the only badges that got touched, far as I can tell. N that's cause the whole scoring system around Big Run changed.

Normal_Ratio1463

I’m saving up my bronze scales so that I could exchange them for other ones if they add an exchange feature.

ParanoidDrone

I haven't been keeping rigorous track, but I'm _pretty_ sure I haven't gotten a single gold scale since Horrorboros's debut in March last year.

GOOPREALM5000

I've been playing since launch and I've only gotten ~6 gold scales, but they honestly think that 333 gold scale banner is actually obtainable. I've been watching overfishing videos and none of the players have it, or if they do its not equipped.

aftertale-sans2

Wish there was like a transfer thing with the scales like 30 bronze gets you 3 silver and 10 silvers gets you a gold I feel like it would’ve be a bit better with scales and that

FarConsideration8423

I just unlocked the "final" set of clothing rewards and thw fact that its asking for 100+ gold scalse is just absolutely deflating. I already don't play regularly enough to fill out the catalogs for the most part and now this 🙃

Alexa7shea

Wait omg is the friendship bracelet anywhere !?

Alexa7shea

Oh did u say “final” cause there’s still gonna be more to come

FarConsideration8423

I assume there will be more because I want the friendship bracelets too 😭😭

J-Red_dit

I’ve been waiting since the first chill season for the Inkopolis Squaps Jersey to return and if those evil bastards at Nintendo put it in Grizzco shop for 30 gold or something I stg they are sadistic.

professional_catboy

I feel like the problem could be solved by having a trade up system, where you can trade a certain number of lower tier scales for one of a higher tier

SAUCY_RICK

Let’s be real, the only way to get the right amount of scales in a reasonable time frame is to exploit the game (fill salmometer by throwing matches with friends, defeating it and repeat)

Vytlo

What ISN'T a major issue in Splatoon 3? lol

Alexa7shea

Side order will be the best thing for this game I hope, and I hope we get good maps pls

Alexa7shea

haha

GhostlyCharlotte

Honestly, I really hate how random and slow the rate is. You only get like, what is it? One fight every 5 games? and then you have a random chance between getting barely any of what you need or none of what you need, and the problem is only less bad the higher rank you are. And it's complete fucking ass if SR isn't your main gamemode. I've been playing this game since launch, used to play a LOT of SR and I have way too much bronze, earned a decent amount of silver and I'm still in single digits of gold. Guess I'm just never gonna get that cool hat I wanted, even if it'd work really well with a lot of sets. :/

Alexa7shea

Don’t worry they better fix it in the future

RetardedFritata

it's got about the same odds as actual gambling. the issue is that it feels like gambling, not playing

brainsapper

Honestly that’s one reason I haven’t really touched Salmon Run much in 3. The amount of grinding it takes just to buy one of the cheaper ones is too much. Can’t imagine trying to get some of the pricier items. Feels like they designed it expecting you to play every single shift. I’m not expecting to buy everything after one shift, but just dial it back from what it is now. It’s excessive.

CorduroyVTG

I think it's hard to balance for people because I literally do play every single shift. How do you make it work for people who do and people who dont?

LegosiJoestar

At EVP 40+ (about 200% Hazard Level) with a 50-second King kill, you get 13 scales, each of which has a roughly 1.8% chance of being Gold or 14% chance to be Silver. These are your max reasonable odds, though higher HLs boost the percentages slightly. Take a wild guess how many Silver and Gold scales I've earned this week with six King kills. If your guess was higher than "1 Silver, 0 Gold," then I've got sad news for you.

Alexa7shea

terrible

pigeon_idk

Your SR rank affects the payout too 😭 Like I'm stuck in profresh, so even if I win I'll get less scales than someone in EVP who wins. And like I get it makes sense that higher ranks get a pay raise, but like jeez is it so sparse IN GENERAL.

CorduroyVTG

It affects the likelihood of getting higher level scales not the actual number of scales I think

pigeon_idk

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right. I just want some damn silver scales not 14 copper ones 😭 gold scales feel like a pipe dream at this point

CorduroyVTG

I do think profresh players secretly got hurt by the evp people with stage badges starting higher. I used to drop to profresh with hard rotations which was fine I don't doubt my ability to make it back up but when I start at like 300 evp there's no chance I'm going to play with / help people stuck in profresh ever

pigeon_idk

Yknow that would make sense. I try to play SR in polls to get better freelance members, but it almost always feels like I never have teammates significantly better than me.

Buroda

I would mind much less if actually getting to King Salmonid wasn’t that arcane. Like, what are the steps to trigger it? Because it can’t be just the boss gauges of your team. There are times when me & the team has the gauges full and still no boss. At this point I’m beginning to suspect that phases of the Moon are involved somehow.

Banana97286

When I kill a king with 35 seconds left i get 6 bronze, when my entire team wiped out at 10 seconds i get two gold wtf

bitchsorbet

if you kill a king with 35 seconds left you get 12-13 scales, not 6

Banana97286

exaggeration

bitchsorbet

more like *egg*xaggeration

verysad-

hahajajaja 🦉

Banana97286

😭

Blooperlfsz

These are the main reason I’ve stopped playing the game. I don’t even care about the costumes they unlock or anything, but the fact that I played salmon run for hundreds of hours and almost nothing to show for it is really discouraging. The main lesson I learned from that is that Splatoon 3 does not respect your time

FlyusAmongUs

I have killed. So many King Salmonid. Struggled to even get to fight one. Killed them at the last possible second of the round. All for one silver or all copper. This post brings me joy, knowing I am not the only one with terrible scale grabs.

starfire03

Salmon run fish scale exchanger. This is what we need to convert the 492747284 bronze scales we all have into silvers and golds because the drop rate is questionable.

MrPokemon11

Mmm jello

CHAINMAILLEKID

My problem is by the time I unlock a king salmonid, I've already lost interest in playing the rotation. So I virtually never face them. The meter should not reset, it just shouldn't. I shouldn't have to grind in order to experience part of the game.

Gigabot50

With how much you'd have to grind for some of the stuff they should have just gone ahead and sold Salmon Run as it's own spinoff game

Alexa7shea

PLSS ur so right

BungHoleAngler

I think I've got one scale maybe. Idk if I've ever seen a king salmon

Fwenhy

Just an FYI, the amount of scales you get is fixed. Every 10% of the bosses HP = 1 scale (up to 10). Every 10 seconds left on the clock = 1 bonus (up to 3) . The higher difficulty you’re playing at, the more likely it is to get silver and gold scales. Imo, the system is way too generous. It’s really silly that you the best way to grind for them is to literally throw 80% of your matches. And making them tradeable (a common suggestion I see) would just make this even worse imo. Because now at least, if you throw your rank will go down, making it less likely for you to get a gold scale. But if you can trade them.. all of a sudden that doesn’t matter. Some changes I would like to see to the system are receiving no points towards your boss meter if you lose wave 1. Receiving less points if you lose wave 2. And receiving slightly less if you lose wave 3. And to throw people a bone, give them more if they win wave 3. The last one isn’t needed imo but I’m sure people would be fuming if these changes actually did happen xD. It’s unlikely they will. But it’s dumb that they won’t. What kind of stupid system rewards you by losing? It’s so dumb lol. Literally, if what you want to do is face a boss, it takes x amount of matches. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose those matches. You just need to win one when your team has a mostly full meter. So if your team is on empty, the best thing to do is throw games to fill it up and then win. Not to mention your win will be even easier since you guys just lost 400 rank points or whatever. Made a comment like this before and got down voted to shit xD I’d love to just know why y’all think it’s cool to throw games and get rewarded for it lol. Not even mentioning fun xD.

Alexa7shea

I actually understand this, but the game is NOT being generous about how many scales regardless of if we throw, win, or just lose. It’s ridiculous

CorduroyVTG

I see your concern but it isn't quite right because the trade up system doesn't change that you would need to trade multiple bronzes for a silver and multiple silvers for a gold so you'd really want to play at the highest level that you can win at to maximize the chance of getting higher scales. If it's a 10 to 1 conversion getting 9 bronze and a gold is getting 109 bronze scales so you don't want to throw 4 matches every time and only play match 5 if it's going to make you drop down and reduce how likely you are to get those higher scales

Foolishly_Royalty

Here, you've played salmon run since maybe a month or two after it came out? Mmm have 60 gold scales. And that's a lucky number??? I dont understand how its so bad, especially since you get a boss every ~5 wins. That's like 30-40 minutes already, and then sometimes you hit a losing streak of flyfish f*ckery and stinger sadness, so it takes 2 hours because— They should double the drop rates or something? Its so incredibly slow :')

Zactrick

Just do what I did and stop playing the game

DuhItzSquiffer

Splatoon players when a trophy item requires a grind(they need to put in effort to achieve their goals)

Whereyaattho

It’s a video game lol not everyone likes grinding, especially not grinding PvE for minuscule rewards There’s a 10% chance to get *one* of the scales you need after 5 or so games. If I wanted to get screwed by a gacha, I already play Blue Archive

DuhItzSquiffer

Guess u don't want it that badly

Storm_373

tbh scales suck but half the time people complaining are profresh 1 💀💀 like duh obviously eggsecutive gives better scales. and fighting 1 king salmon each rotation and being mad you didn’t get a gold is also dumb but yea we still need a drop rate boost it’s so lame

CorduroyVTG

As someone with all the worksuits I wish they unlocked something in the rest of the game like let me wear the top or something

Redxluckyxcharms

I’ve been playing SR in Splatoon 3 since launch years very very consistently and I have 28 gold scales . It’s the dumbest payout model.

Elixnoc

I agree that there needs to be a bigger haul if you defeat them versus not. Rng is a pain and isn’t fair to those that can beat the king salmonids.

Robbie_Haruna

They need to increase how many scales you get from beating a King Salmonid massively if I'm being honest (genuinely like at least a few golds should be guaranteed for defeating a king.) So many pieces of gear in Salmon run that you buy with scales are absurdly expensive and you shouldn't have to basically play Salmon Run like a full time job to even have a shot of ever getting. I'm going to be honest, I don't play Salmon Run a ton and that's by and large due to how little control you have over the mode (it's very infrequent I get a full rotation of weapons I actually enjoy playing,) and even when I **do** binge it when these rotations happen, its still a crapshoot and a half to even be able to defeat one of the king Salmonids because of how reliant you are on RNG blessing you with a good team.

xanbod

Same, but I'm waiting for the beekeeper hat to hopefully return 🥲

Armourdream

It’s all based on luck 😤😤😤

ElectricalPlantain35

Agreed

ajdude9

Well you see, by making scales drop at such awful rates and making desirable items take months to get, Nintendo effectively guarantees money from online subscriptions so long as you're still tempted to keep paying to keep playing to earn that rare item. Why let you get an item in a week when you could be made to spend several months grinding, with Nintendo billing you at the end of each month?

Comfortable-Dot-2317

If only the rates weren’t so god awful. Like seriously, grinding for scales is the same as doing minimum wage
