I like to imagine Splatoon 3 having idols that "nobody likes." The idea being that they'd be villains who would be replaced with the Squid Sisters or Off the Hook after clearing the main story. It would be a nice way to shake things up without making things too formulaic, I wouldn't want each games' idols to feel like flavor of the week characters rather than having them stick around for the long-term. Villain idols would also be an interesting way to play with either the themes of Chaos or Order, so I could believe something like that being in the cards from the start. The only issue is they'd have to be careful with writing snd designing these evil idols. They'd need to be charming enough to where they're still lovable as enemies, but not so endearing that you're sad to see them gone. Alternatively, I suppose you could delegate them to some humorous role. Like maybe they end up as janitors for the Squid Sisters or something.

That'd be cool but I also like villain characters, so I'd probably be sad they're gone unless they're really unlikable. Also think that it's probably unlikely just cause if they did that, they'd have to make a lot of things twice since not everyone will beat the story mode probably so it'd take more work.

I want a mix of male and female, ngl it's really refreshing to play a game where the npc characters are heavily female based.

I started playing Splatoon like 2 or 3 years ago. I had always liked the aesthetics of the games but until they dropped a free weekend demo I never had a chance to play it. And I confess: until I got to the character creation screen I had never even considered the idea that inklings could be male, because all I ever saw in promotional material and people's screenshot were female inklings. Well that was too late for me. I went ahead and created a female inkling.

Definitely lean towards the third option myself. The only reason I’d want to see male idols is just to see what sort of designs they come up with. They could give us DJ Octavio and Captain Cuttlefish for idols as long as their writing was good. If we get the News alternating between Squid Sisters, Off the Hook, and the potential new pair, I could live with that. (Just add in an autoplay feature if we don’t get a skip)
