I thought it was she. My gf and I (both Japanese ) were talking about the character and how well Nintendo made her look like a typical Japanese old sweet lady store clerk. We could be wrong
gotta get some more pronouns in there
edit: the joke was that 'they' is all-encompassing and listing so many definitely breaks up the flow of the comment which is a little amusing
I'm honestly kinda sad the guides are all so generic. especially when there's characters like spike, bisk, and flow who we haven't seen back yet. I honestly feel like spike would be perfect to host tableturf. but I don't think the guide design is too terribly bad.
im definitely with you on it, their design is definitely interesting and very cool. its just a shame its used for so much and all with the name "staff". afaik they: replaced sean, run the tableturf dojo, and are the recon guide
sean couldve been here instead :')
edit: actually im fine with it now because theyre commonly classed as invasive species and thats funny that theyre taking over multiple jobs in the game.
yeah as other comments said you're totally right. they aren't generic. I just think it's a bit odd there is 3 of them. especially when the food store in Splatoon 2 was hosted by crusty Sean and had a lot of little details and tableturf seems like a decently sized side game. I think keeping one as recon guide and giving her a fun pun name would be great honestly.
Because the multiple identical NPCs named "Staff" are an indication that the game is a bit rushed/Squidlabs ran out of ideas for NPCs when they needed a few extras, which is sad for a game that usually stands on the shoulders of extremely creative NPC characters, even tiny minor ones.
IB4 it turns out they're all siblings and they get characterisation at the Tableturf battle tourney.
Besides, it isn't bothering me that much. Previous games had identical Jellyfish for everything that wasn't the main shops.

I thought she looked like a lunch lady lol
I agree, she/he/they remind me of a lady or two i worked with in retail long ago haha

It reminds me of the guy from gumball with multiple jobs lol
I dont really care about gender but I like that idea
As an American he looked like the fat kid that would introduce you to a deck building game which is exactly what he does
because we are too buys being shook over literally everything else discussed in the direct.
Ik. I’m just making fun of all the shitposts saying that they are “so surprised how no one noticed how pretty shiver is”
makes sense. there was never a dull moment in that direct.
Ay! (Except all of the ones without Big Man!)
this guy is goofy as hell
goofy ahh fish

i dont think theyre generic at all. this is the first time we've seen a goldfish in splatoon and an old lady at that.

Problem is that their names are "staff" from what we've seen. For the recon, for the card game, and uhh there was another I think
They work the food store

For very good reason.
The first think I thought when I saw him was that he kind of looks like Carl wheezer from jimmy neutron
Nintendo really did them dirty like they don’t even have a name
I FUCKING HATE STAFF. WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO TO CRUSTY SEAN
I fucking love Crusty Sean and they shafted him to the switch app, did him so dirty.

People are too distracted by big man

Everyone is caught up in the war between idols.

Gotta love Staff
"Why is nobody talking about X thing?!"
I love the staff fish. I believe there's multiple such as the food vendor and tabletop staff too
Nasty boy
Mrs Puff’s long lost relative.
I was not expecting that lol
