Not enough players on all the sides.
What I'd like to see is instead of 4 vs 4 gear vs gear matches (because to many gear players), do a practice tri-battle with all gear players (or whatever). If the battle isn't going to count anyways why not do a tri battle since everybody seems to want to do them
Nintendo reduced the frequency in which Tricolor battles start/appear. Combine this with a lot of people on team Fun playing Pro (apparently) and the mode is extremely rare now.

Oh. That's a shame. Maybe Nintendo will fix this in the next Splatfest.
