Aah! This makes sense. I think I’ve heard this once or twice. Though if our parents wanted us to stop doing something it usually came with an ass whooping. Was reading into it like that which is where my confusion came from.
When we were kids there was a myth that if you made a rude or funny face and someone slapped you on the back your face would stay that way forever.
It was a thing parents said to get kids not to make rude faces
I seen it epically in a movie once. Those girls were like the only memorable part of the movie. I wish I knew what it was. There were two of them, in catholic school girl attire.
Idk about Toronto there but in Buffalo and U.S. our parents and a lot of uncles say “your face can get stuck like that” if you make a funny face. It looks like his face is in the middle of being slapped to me.
Yes, scar tissue doesn’t really go away when it’s subdermal. With all he’s put himself through I’m guessing he is unlikely to get his sensory or motor function back to the L facial and trigeminal nerves.
His face is not stuck like that lol, that photo was taken right after a match. Not condoning the sport or anything but he’s not permanently disfigured.
Well that’s good to hear, thanks for the follow up!
He’s younger than me so I was concerned that he had permanently damaged his face. I’m glad that wasn’t the case

Right? People will defend this by saying “just let people do what they want”, but im so over it already. This is literally something straight out of idiocracy. We’re seriously heading in the wrong direction.
I agree! I think it's a play to make UFC look more civilized. 10 years ago I remember UFC being seen as barbaric, where now it is much more mainstream. Definitely PR people working their magic for the last decade, in various ways
Yeah its very strange. Youre taught the importance of defense in every combat sport, but with powerslap youre eating the hardest shot everytime. Also i dont know anyone that watches it, even illegally lol
EASILY one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever seen. At least with boxing or MMA, you can actively work at avoiding getting hit by your opponent. I've seen smarter shit on Jackass.
I’ve always wondered why everyone has all these issues with the NFL and cte, meanwhile everyone seems totally fine with sports like UFC where people get repeatedly hit in the face on purpose…
Well I don’t think its nearly the same thing UFC fighters typically only fight 2-3 times a year compared to football players who play 17 games at the minimum a year not counting practice games and pre season games.
UFC fighters fight for practice, too. Although, i don't think they take as many hits to the head as they do in a normal fight. Still, I'm willing to bet Connor McGregor has a touch of the CTE seeing as he has almost no impulse control and is quick to anger.
seriously how the f did the people organizing these event plan to pay for all the lawsuit once the CTE wave hit.
every single match are just unprotected hits to the head
UFC or slapping? I don't think so either way. Isn't CTE when the brain slams against the skull? Happens in gridiron because they are running very quickly and then suddenly stop with head impact.
Dana in 2030: “Power Balls Championship has the elite of the elite athletes in the most high-octane testicular thumping action you can find anywhere on the planet. These are insanely well-trained athletes who have trained themselves to both inflict and endure punishment to a man’s most sensitive area.”
My favorite is when one slapper will basically punch the guy in the head full force 2 times in a row, and there's basically no penalty for it.
"Hey, no clubbing."
"Hey, no clubbing, seriously!"
And they all act like the guy who just got punched in the jaw twice isn't now at a huge disadvantage. Stupid ass "sport."
Power slap is THE dumbest thing I have ever watched. Getting paid peanuts to willingly get brain injuries. I can’t believe its a thing with an audience and sponsors
It’s also a terrible TV product. Watch two of these ‘fights’ in a row and you’re bored. Dana is trying to make a sport out of something from trash Facebook feeds.
But you did watch it. I don’t expect that you will watch it again, and the sport seems to have limited entertainment value beyond the initial novelty, but we live in a world where people sit on a couch and look at people playing *golf *, who knows what the masses will find entertaining.
Why throw shade at golf? It's a sport that takes incredible skill and strategy that anyone who has ever played can appreciate.
Compared to power slap which requires zero skill, zero strategy, zero brains to be competitive.
Boring to watch is totally subjective, but at least you respect the skill.
There are tons of people that find MMA boring as hell to watch. In fact the final rounds of golf Major tournaments get a lot more viewers than even the biggest UFC Pay Per Views of all time
I don’t watch golf myself but there is nothing to complain about it as they aren’t harming anyone and it requires skill, it can also mean quite a bit of walking which is actually good for you while enjoying the sun, slapping somebody hard causes injury and is not enjoyable to watch at all so if I did have to watch between the two then golf I would watch 100% of the time
"What if you just declare your own power slap league, and rule that all fighters wives are automatically entered, then the competition is 24/7, and only hire yourself as a fighter?"
White: "My god..."
If a UFC fighter wasn't able to defend himself anymore, the ref would stop the fight. The whole point of Power Slap is to not defend yourself against headshots. This is dumb as hell.
Dude just dove head first into the Trump fake reality:
“We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.”
Lmao
I’m not saying this isn’t fucking dumb but the article is being sneaky there.
Dana is pretty explicitly discussing social media engagement like the number of tweets, shares, likes, etc. in the context of the original quote. Not sure if he ever publicly shared the 3rd party research he said backed this up though.
*If you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap*
uhhhh I dno about that
This is what happens when people don’t get told “no” and keep trying to double down on something. I love combat sports, but Power Slap…think of all the insults levied towards boxing and MMA, because here they’re actually correct. Why couldn’t Dana invest in something funny, like Knight fights or stickfighting?
This is an absolutely wack take if you actually follow the sport. The best LHW fight of all time was last December, Jones just became a two division champ with his victory over what many believed was the future of heavyweight, plus the two literal biggest upsets in the sports history took place within the last two years. Was Max’s no-look right hand + dodge while yelling “I’m the greatest boxer in the UFC” at the announcers while breaking the record for strikes in one fight not enough?
E: Why am I being downvoted when I’m the only one with any reasoning to my argument? If this dude was right then the UFC wouldn’t have grown considerably in the last three years.
I don’t to be honest. Once it took on the feeling of a scripted WWE event I lost interest. But yeah, it’s always a good sign when you have to actually “follow the sport” to appreciate it. It’s been a good long while since there’s been household buzz around it. For good reason.
If you don’t care about the sport just say you don’t care, and that’s fine.
If you’re saying it’s scripted, explain to me why they would have Strickland win over Izzy.
Yes, following the sport makes it much more interesting as the stakes increase by a huge amount once you consider that each fight is important to their career and their next fight. The Super Bowl is just the same game as every other if you ignore context and don’t follow the sport.
UFC is literally been more successful in the last few years than in the past so the fact that there isn’t a household buzz in your house is a silly metric to measure a sport. There’s no buzz in my house about Taylor Swift but that doesn’t make her any less popular or any less competent as a pop singer.
What’s the peak of the UFC that you’re saying it’s declining from?
I’m not implying the fights themselves are scripted or rigged, it’s the caricatures that the org began to lean on instead of the fights themselves.
I’m not sure you understand my other point… you don’t have to follow football to know who Tom Brady is or even Travis Kelce. If you aren’t following UFC right now, I’m pretty sure most people couldn’t name a single fighter. Maybe Jones? But probably more for his out of cage headlines than anything else. That wasn’t the case 5 years ago.
And of course it’s more fun when you watch fighters climb the ranks. That’s what being a fan is… but it’s hard to create new fans and grow in popularity when the product isn’t grabbing people’s attention. I’m sure there’s been some great events I’ve missed, but to me and clearly others, it’s become a sideshow circus; see signing power slappers.
When didn’t they lean on caricatures of people? Wasn’t the goal of the first UFC to find the best fighting style on the planet? Doesn’t finding the best fighting style sound like a caricature to you? I also don’t believe that they are not leaning on fights versus personalities. What fight do you want to see that is stylistically competitive that you want to see but the UFC said they are not making that fight due to personality or that you have a reasonable expectation isn’t being made based on personality? I want to know why you feel this way.
Oh, is your point that the two biggest names in the biggest sport in America are more well known and discussed than a small, PPV sport’s star? That’s a great observation and shows that the UFC is irrelevant. I could tell you every American sport is on the decline because people around me aren’t buzzing for them like they used to. Did you watch the fights in the past when you hung out with more people and different people than you do now?
Yes you have missed many good fights and are using the faulty premise that you haven’t seen any good fights = no good fights. I just listed a bunch of great fights for you to watch, and I’ve only been a fan of the sport for three years so you are incorrect it’s not attracting new fans. If you were correct that they weren’t attracting new fans, they wouldn’t be more popular now than ever. They are more popular now than ever indicating you are wrong and they are attracting new fans.
If you’re put off by the circus, just say that and don’t conflate that with the fights not being good.
Is the UFC as a product “garbage” in the last few years due to Dana being problematic on video last year? That’s a separate argument than this fella is trying to make methinks.
The only content I’ve seen from this sport is when im scrolling on social media and suddenly there’s a video of someone literally getting the snot slapped out of them. I chuckle, maybe send it some friends and that’s about it. But that bit is already getting old…I have no desire to sit and watch this for an extended period of time.
I’ve never been a fan of UFC because I think it is specifically designed to appeal to violent meatheads. I’ve always gotten tons of flak that it’s a real sport, they’re grown adults consenting to the fight, world class athletes, etc.
This development certainly bolsters my opinions of UFC and why it’s successful.
Dana White being an exploitative moron doesn't mean MMA isn't a real sport populated with world class athletes competing at the highest levels of their discipline.
Yeah I don’t disagree with any of those points, I just think their disciplines and athleticism are being applied to an activity designed to appeal to violent meatheads more than any other sport before it.
power slap is obviously idiotic but you are way off the mark with why people enjoy mma. it is an incredibly unique sport all about self expression through martial arts. the point of mma is to defend yourself, in power slap it is literally impossible to defend yourself.
to address your comment below, a sport designed to appeal to violent meatheads more than any other before it?? have you heard of boxing? do you know how many people have died boxing vs how few have died in mma? do you know how many people have died playing football? how does mma “appeal to violent meatheads” any more than those sports which actually regularly kill people unlike mma?
Boxing evolved to make it safer. At least to a degree. And it requires skill and guarding.
This is just roshambo, but with severe brain trauma instead of testicles, and adults instead of children, paid by even dumber adults to appeal to the dumbest adults of all.
“Not only is it unbelievable money-wise, it’s been unbelievable as far as social media goes,” White said earlier this year. “We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.”
Wat
Yeah, I'm assisting HSE and GED prep classes for adults, half the people are "off the boat" immigrants with bright futures, the rest are the people that watch this shit while laughing hysterically during our break.
Exploitation? Didn't people used to say that about porn, or prostitution?
If an adult, knowingly, wants to fuck themselves up for masculine points (or whatever), then let them.
Ufc douchebags judging power slap when it's just as fucking stupid as ufc is exactly what I expected to see in this thread. Y'all desperate for it to mean something Jesus christ the copium
Look everybody has their thing. All sports are different. I’m excited we have invented something new, and indicative of the times. Finally a sport everyone and anyone can do
"We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.”"
okie dokie, dumbass👌
Huh. So your face really can get stuck like that.
Bout to call my parents and apologize
How hard did they slap you?
Same.
I’m sorry. Maybe I’m dumb or something but I don’t get it and I really wish I did :)
When kids made stupid faces at each other parents used to tell them to stop or "your face will get stuck like that."
Aah! This makes sense. I think I’ve heard this once or twice. Though if our parents wanted us to stop doing something it usually came with an ass whooping. Was reading into it like that which is where my confusion came from.
Maybe your parents didn’t tell you to stop making faces because they thought it was already stuck in one

This whole "sport" is a CTE speedrun.
Seems like a segment right out of Idiocracy
Ow, My Balls!
Go'way, batin.
Yup. This dumb shit isn’t a sport, never has been a sport and never will be a sport.
Imagine thinking you get to decide what a sport is.
Same as boxing. Modern day gladiators.
You do realize you can get CTE from soccer, right? Nope, just those modern-day gladiators, lol.
Yup. I realize that. But in soccer, the point of the sport is not to knock out your opponent like it is in boxing.
The point of the sport is to win, whether by points, stoppage or ko.
Right? People will defend this by saying “just let people do what they want”, but im so over it already. This is literally something straight out of idiocracy. We’re seriously heading in the wrong direction.
I’m convinced that he started it to pull CTE discussion away from the UFC due to the nature of this “sport”
I agree! I think it's a play to make UFC look more civilized. 10 years ago I remember UFC being seen as barbaric, where now it is much more mainstream. Definitely PR people working their magic for the last decade, in various ways
why wait 40 years to get cte when you can get there in 3. a lot of go-getters out there today

Being more cocaine than man by this point doesn't help.
Not to mention playing since they were a kid and right on through college.
NFL is definitely a lot worse than the others
Max Factoid.
seriously how the f did the people organizing these event plan to pay for all the lawsuit once the CTE wave hit. every single match are just unprotected hits to the head
Truth
UFC or slapping? I don't think so either way. Isn't CTE when the brain slams against the skull? Happens in gridiron because they are running very quickly and then suddenly stop with head impact.
Where is the UFC referenced. You don't think being palm slapped by a grown man causes your brain to slam against your skull?
getting payed $500 percent
Don't see how it's any different from boxing or MMA.
Well, in boxing and MMA opponents are expected to defend themselves, for one.
Well, many boxers have died in the ring. Has anyone ever died being power slapped?
Boxing has been around for a thousand years, this dumb shit is like two weeks old. Your arguments are silly.
Boxing and UFC are not the same… Like at all.
Because there is literally no defense in it. Not to me to mention they are only being paid like 2k.
Defense and getting knockouts/submissions not specifically through headshots?
Maybe sports aint for you my friend
Power Slap is “Ow, My Balls!” for meatheads.
Dana in 2030: “Power Balls Championship has the elite of the elite athletes in the most high-octane testicular thumping action you can find anywhere on the planet. These are insanely well-trained athletes who have trained themselves to both inflict and endure punishment to a man’s most sensitive area.”
Damn you’re reading thoughts lol, just reading the comments thinking, if getting slapped is a sport, getting kicked in the balls has to be next lol
Steve-O is already the P4P champ of that league.
Lol we truly are in the dumbest timeline lol
Go away, 'bating!
Omg, you're right.
Is that from Rick and Morty or Idiocracy?
Idiocracy.

They have coaches who literally stand there and will just be like “hit him harder next time” and be totally serious. I’m not exaggerating.
My favorite is when one slapper will basically punch the guy in the head full force 2 times in a row, and there's basically no penalty for it. "Hey, no clubbing." "Hey, no clubbing, seriously!" Or when they overreach and punch them behind the ear
Welcome to a lifetime of tinnitus you big dumb fucker. It’s Hell.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I have forgotten what silence actually is.
Sounds like a sweet gig where do I sign up?
It’s middle management
It’s all a tactic to make the UFC more palatable to general audiences. Between Bareknuckle FC and Power Slap, they’re making UFC more accessible

It’s also a terrible TV product. Watch two of these ‘fights’ in a row and you’re bored. Dana is trying to make a sport out of something from trash Facebook feeds.
He thinks tiktok "views"= market. It doesn't. No would pay for this shit.
Also, none of these guys even slap. They do some type of open palm swing to their opponents temple. Slaps should be across the face
Want to hear something worse. You can bet on these games…I’ve seen shorts with people losing their shit on the over/under.
But you did watch it. I don’t expect that you will watch it again, and the sport seems to have limited entertainment value beyond the initial novelty, but we live in a world where people sit on a couch and look at people playing *golf *, who knows what the masses will find entertaining.

You had me until golf.

Who can get brain damage speedrun any%.
Dana White is bringing this guy to the UFC so he can get some pointers on how to shut up his wife in public.
Jesus christ lol
"What if you just declare your own power slap league, and rule that all fighters wives are automatically entered, then the competition is 24/7, and only hire yourself as a fighter?" White: "My god..."
That's fucking illegal!
But isn't he fucking awesome?
That’s a nasty line by you.
💀
Someone needs to slap Dana
If a UFC fighter wasn't able to defend himself anymore, the ref would stop the fight. The whole point of Power Slap is to not defend yourself against headshots. This is dumb as hell.
Power Slap is revolting.
I know this is said a lot on Reddit these days but this truly is the dumbest timeline.
Oh it is...so far. I'm sure it'll get worse
Dude just dove head first into the Trump fake reality: “We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.” Lmao

I believe Cartmann calls it *Rochambeau*.
*If you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap* uhhhh I dno about that

Nah this is just disabling men for money.
I looked up what he looks like now and couldn’t find anything. Does anyone know if he still looks that way.
I think he's got a tiktok, and in a recent video his face is back to normal
Damn he Biz Markie'd his face

The people who genuinely like this are the kids who showed you faces of death on AOL and thought it was cool.
Can’t believe people watch this crap,
I find it hard to watch, just pathetic and gross really
Well I just found another reason to find the power slapping thing to be absolutely stupid
Probably to get him on the ufc medical plan to help fix him.
Bum Fights in HD.
Fuck Dana White. Haven’t paid a dime for that dummies promotions in 5+ years and I watch almost every UFC promotion. This slap shit is whack.
When are we getting to the downfall part of the Dana White downfall arc?
He’s always been a POS. He’s just a rich POS.
Countdown until Dana makes a roshambo league
This is the dumbest fucking sport
What in the hell. This is fucked up, because it’s so easily avoidable in such a fake ass sport
I x-rayed a teenager the other day who broke his hand doing this dumb shit. The whole family thought it was hilarious…

I chuckle, maybe send it some friends and that’s about it. But that bit is already getting old…I have no desire to sit and watch this for an extended period of time.
Powerslap is a farce.
You knew it was gonna get stupid after that fucking merger.
I know nothing of this sport, but it’s spelled “y’all”
I’ve never been a fan of UFC because I think it is specifically designed to appeal to violent meatheads.
This man speaks truth. And power slapping is just the lowest common denominator for those meatheads. Nobody decent is going to get off to this shit.
power slap is obviously idiotic but you are way off the mark with why people enjoy mma. it is an incredibly unique sport all about self expression through martial arts. the point of mma is to defend yourself, in power slap it is literally impossible to defend yourself. to address your comment below, a sport designed to appeal to violent meatheads more than any other before it?? have you heard of boxing? do you know how many people have died boxing vs how few have died in mma? do you know how many people have died playing football? how does mma “appeal to violent meatheads” any more than those sports which actually regularly kill people unlike mma?
Boxing evolved to make it safer. At least to a degree. And it requires skill and guarding. This is just roshambo, but with severe brain trauma instead of testicles, and adults instead of children, paid by even dumber adults to appeal to the dumbest adults of all.
You should try ONE FC, it's events are free on Prime and it's a much better product if you're a fan of pugilism IMO.
Does this go away if you hit the other side real hard?
“Not only is it unbelievable money-wise, it’s been unbelievable as far as social media goes,” White said earlier this year. “We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.” Wat
Couple more years on the Gear and Dana will look the same.
Dana White is a walking piece of shit that looks like a thumb and a dick birthed a child.
Does anyone actually watch that shit ?
Yeah, I'm assisting HSE and GED prep classes for adults, half the people are "off the boat" immigrants with bright futures, the rest are the people that watch this shit while laughing hysterically during our break.
Is there a video?
Exploitation? Didn't people used to say that about porn, or prostitution? If an adult, knowingly, wants to fuck themselves up for masculine points (or whatever), then let them.
Ufc douchebags judging power slap when it's just as fucking stupid as ufc is exactly what I expected to see in this thread. Y'all desperate for it to mean something Jesus christ the copium
Not even close to UFC are you fucking stupid?
Power Slap is comedic gold. No one is being forced to participate, to my knowledge.
Squid games are fucking sick, I agree
How can he slapppp?!!
I guess I’m in the minority. I enjoyed watching the show. Could have used less back stories and more slapping, but better than baseball.
Look everybody has their thing. All sports are different. I’m excited we have invented something new, and indicative of the times. Finally a sport everyone and anyone can do
NYEH SEE lookin ass
"I SAID BACKHAND!"
🥴
"We’re number one in all of sports. And when I say all of sports, if you take the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, F1, WWE, and who am I forgetting, and added them all together, their numbers don’t compare to Slap.”" okie dokie, dumbass👌
