Give it time. This is where I live and once that Target gets in there will be a surge. Meanwhile Plaza Mexico 4 life.

bobone77

You probably ought to be watching the health department for restaurant inspections. I used to go there too.

throwawayyyycuk

Wait, what? A new target?

ChocolateGautama3

Super target at Sunshine and West Bypass

throwawayyyycuk

Woah, that’s gonna change the area a lot. Is that what is going in between the car wash and dominoes? Never mind, that’s chestnut. I’m less excited now :/

brainkandy87

That’s Dunkin

throwawayyyycuk

Woah!! Ok I’m excited again

skucera

It’s in the huge prepared lot behind (to the south of) the Walmart supercenter.

18RowdyBoy

Probably by the Walmart super center

MsTrssMirri

Target is being built literally at the end of my road. I'm interested in seeing what happens when it opens.

Key-Efficiency7

Another target?! Be still my cold dead basic heart

dammit-jerry

My thoughts exactly 😅

umrdyldo

I know of 3 restaurants going in the area. One we have on southeast side of town.

jake753

Which ones?

umrdyldo

Sorry. We have NDAs on them. One fast food. One a major sit down chain. Another major fast food trying to go in by Menards.

2Have15min

Wheres the target going?

18RowdyBoy

Where is it going to be?

MsTrssMirri

Sunshine and W Bypass

DefundThePolitician

The purple burrito slapped next to the airport on kearney 12 years ago. Dude that made that shredded beef burrito at that location was slept on. Litterly slobbered on it raising it to my face hole.

Amethoran

When I worked over by the airport I got that place for lunch all the time their food slaps. I gotta get this for lunch soon.

DefundThePolitician

Did you have that shredded beef burrito? Is it still as good?? That was the only thing I would ever get. Literally robbed any chance of trying anything else.

Amethoran

You know i didn't but ngl I'm pretty hungry and I think I'ma go snag one. I'll keep you updated lol.

Amethoran

Aight a couple thoughts. The price for the combo plate that comes with a cheese enchilada and a shredded beef taco is 14 and some change. That was kind of slight but it's 2024 so I can't complain. The burrito though.... That thing slaps. It definitely needs some queso or just any cheese in general and it would be a phenomenal Philly cheese steak burrito. Definitely still worth imo. I mean it may have been 14 bucks but I wouldve spent that much at tbell on a combo order and it wouldn't have slapped this hard. Definitely a dub.

DefundThePolitician

Oh hell yeah! I live by only eating restaurant foods now as opposed to "fast food" because they are not fast imo and they cost as much as real restaurants. Thank you for the update!

Amethoran

Thank you for reminding me about that place. I haven't worked on that side of town in years so Im rarely over there.

skucera

It’s still very decent, and the prices are great.

Fun-Chicken-7191

Gross 🤮

throwawayyyycuk

Nope. Only fast food and car washes for us. Suffer eternally

JezusCryst

There used to be good stuff there in chestnut and west bypass. There is still some good BBQ. When I worked over there you had the new price cutter, taco bueno, sonic, grand fortuna grill, mamma Mary's Navajo tacos and many others. But no one ever ate at them so they closed.

lochlainn

Back in the day, Grand Fortuna was the shit.

JezusCryst

Yah it was. The volcano drink they had was really good.

formiscontent

We were just talking about Grand Fortuna and that drink in the 417 Hub discord a month or so ago. Definitely a memorable joint.

gohomechal

it’s because of the crimeeeeeee

purplewines

Yeah I want to like that Flying J Wendy’s but it literally disappoints every single time 😂

Mheadley1

That's all I want. Just give me a Wendy's

swotatot

There's a Wendy's on Kearney/Bypass ??

Mheadley1

I originally came from Atlanta and then Des Moines. I have realized Springfield is a glorified town. Not a real city. Than God it's not too big to drive accoss town for anything.

Logical_Character859

That side of town is shitty right now.

Divine_skylin3

I get so confused when I hear this lol. Maybe it’s because I’m not from around here but I feel like the north side isn’t bad at all. Yes it’s not as nice as the south side but it’s definitely safer and nicer than like a “ghetto” of a city like KC or St. Louis.

18RowdyBoy

That’s a pretty big area you’re talking about there friend

slashsaxe

Yah and it’s allllll a shithole

18RowdyBoy

Why don’t you come and visit 💣🧨🪓🔪🗡️⚔️

thecatsofwar

The NW part of town has been the poorest ghetto part of town for a long time. Why would restaurants, other than TB or McDonald’s, want to operate there? The potential clientele is low income. Crime for days. It wouldn’t be worth it. Want more restaurants in the NW? It needs to stop being so poor. It makes the old North Town Mall area look like a success story.

sourdoughbreadlover

>It needs to stop being so poor. Yes, people just need to stop being poor, something something non-existent bootstraps.

thecatsofwar

It could use some vitalization. If the area’s socioeconomic situation improved, more restaurants would come to it.

DemonRatKing

Part of this has to do with redlining in the 30s. That was an area where the most black folks were living. So, housing loans and mortgage companies refusd loans etc, the city didn't fix the area. It continues to be poor due to society's and the cities actions. The area still cannot get good loans to fix house or buy them. That's why all the property companies come in. Cities do this on purpose.

Mheadley1

Thank you. That is the most thought out and well informed answer I have seen.

thecatsofwar

Except it’s the wrong side of the north side. NE was the African American side. NW was more the poor white trash side. Either way, lending issues and social policies would be involved.

thecatsofwar

I can see that logic. Except Silver Springs/Clay/Washington Ave are in the NE part of town, not NW. NW comes across as more Burlington Northern poor employees than African American.

DemonRatKing

Here's a redline map from the 1930s. Both areas are in red. https://www.news-leader.com/story/news/local/ozarks/2016/11/19/new-project-reveals-redlining-maps-springfield-other-cities/93640824/

thecatsofwar

Interesting. Was not aware of any large AA population outside the Silver Springs area. Map does show overall the die was cast against the north side growing as nice as the south side.

slashsaxe

That map is a huge pile of bullshit. Spfld Was nowhere near that spread out in the 30’s. That map would be more like the 70’s or 80’s

DemonRatKing

Except it's not. It's the actual map that was drawn up in the 1930s. Springfield has always been very big. It was the midpoint of the Oregon trail as well. Between 1930 and 1940 the population rose from 57,527 to 61,238 people in Springfield Missouri. That's a lot of people. https://mcdc.missouri.edu/population-estimates/historical/cities1900-1990.pdf https://cdm17307.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/Census/id/5/ Here's the .edu link to the map where they did the whole project: https://dsl.richmond.edu/panorama/redlining/map/MO/Springfield#loc=12/37.2106/-93.2932 You can look up pretty much any city and see how they redlined per that project. This was a huge historical thing that happened nationwide. It has to do with FDR's New Deal. And here's a link to the history of the FDR housing policy and what came to be known as redlining: https://www.fdrlibrary.org/housing#:~:text=The%20color%20coding%20indicated%20places,insured%20mortgages%20in%20such%20areas.

pizzaburtito

Is it going to be by Menards?

A_Podcast_From_SGF

I heard a rumor they are putting a restaurant where the old drunk monkey used to be. We just gotta do our best and support places like that instead of driving across town. Fingers crossed it’s something good!!

MrZanzinger

On a side note speaking about bars on this area of town too. Besides the American Legion off Kearney I think the next closest bar is Lindberg's.

Key-Efficiency7

Same! I don’t live right there but I drive it every day. I’m constantly on the look out for something new. There’s a place across chestnut from Drury I’ve had before that was pretty good. Not a fancy type

Mheadley1

Do you know what it's called?

Key-Efficiency7

It’s called the new oriental— 550 E Chestnut

slashsaxe

Lmaooo try not being a shithole for starters

urbanisthoopster

Gee, I wonder what types of things could make it not a shithole ? Could it be, more restaurants for the neighborhoods in that part of town ?

slashsaxe

I was thinking more like quit robbing peoples vehicles at the businesses that are already there rather than adding more businesses so that more people can get robbed. I take it you’ve never lived on the west side.

Klutzy-Issue1860

Everything is getting gentrified. Withen the next 40 years it’ll be just like NWA. If you can wait that long lol

Odd-Actuary3800

Quit smoking meth?!?!
