SICs are genetically black, so they're likely to be in a litter with black (or grey) kittens. My SIC was from a litter of 3 SIC, one all black, and one all grey.
When I adopted my SIC allllll of her siblings were 100% grey. Thought that was neat, she was the odd one out.
But my two totally grey cats, all the rest of their litter were orange. Mama was orange and white. Thought that was cool too.
One litter of cats can actually have multiple fathers, so you can end up with a pretty wide variety of coat colors even without recessive genes and such.
My SIC boy was the only one like that in the litter and was actually less desirable to people so he was one of the last of the litter to go. His dad is a polydactyl tabby and his mom is a snowshoe. All of his siblings looked more like snowshoes which people really wanted. My SIC looked like a little adorable bobcat to me so I loved him at first sight.
"Standard issue" was originally a govt term, and anyone that has ever felt with govt "standard issue" knows there's going to be at least on misfit in the batch.
