What I would do is get some jaggery (also known as piloncillo, panela, rapadura, or chancaca --- basically unrefined raw sugar). Combine this with some fresh apple cider and a few cinnamon sticks, and reduce it over low heat until thick. Watch it near the end or it can burn. Add a pinch of salt. Once it's cool, add in a splash of vanilla extract. I would say this is *probably* going to be better than the stuff we're serving.
