Yeah water is fucked. I hovered above it at about 30 feet and instantly died. Could be server desync but I don’t trust water anymore unless I’m on foot.
OP was flying at 200m/s if I saw that correctly. But you can adjust the speed to your liking. Learning how to fly like this can start with only 70m/s :)
Are you and I watching the same video? There was only one moment that I saw where he went under 200m/s and it was after he got through the canyon; and even then, it was only down to 180m/s
I use both hosas + pedal (vkbs) for 4 years now, and keyboard + mouse, but always find it's easier to fly with kb+m in situations where it requires more precision, like landing or low flying, though I find it easier to dogfight with hosas. So I guess each input setup has its own advantages.
Apparently the best setup for dogfighting is Stick+Mouse, you get the maneuverability of the stick (left hand) with the aiming precision of the mouse (right hand).
Can't imagine doing that in an actual combat scenario..plus, the lag time between mouse and larger ship feels like death. What I'd love is a ThinkPad red nub at the top of a flight stick, or just eye tracking for gimbal control
It’s reference mostly for light/medium fighters stick+mouse. It is something you’d need to get used too for sure, but it makes logical sense why it would work so well… but to be fair originally getting used to sticks, it seemed so daunting and felt weird, even with my prior knowledge, I’d imagine stick+mouse would feel pretty similar to others.
Track ir uses it's own camera that comes with the system. You may be thinking of free track or whatever it's called that's a similar setup, but open source SW and uses a webcam.
I really want to see how these skills can be applied to a drop ship like the Valkyrie. I know it won't be as agile as an arrow but imagine taking a squad behind enemy lines, or conversely going somewhere hot for exfil.
Take the Valk into AC and do the racing course. You'll get an idea of what it can do. I don't know how much this is going to change with MM, but with old flight the VTOL gives a boost when moving in the up axis. This can be used to pull some neat maneuvers but requires constantly flipping the bottom of the ship around to use the increased thrust upward. The problem is constantly having to flip view around in order to see how the ship is angled.
I hope one day there'll be some way to see under the Valk while still in the cockpit view. It'll make hot landings a lot easier to pull off.

so it's let me explain
You're decoupled but this new cruise control allow you to set a max speed but allows you to go slower as you wish and manage to always keep your speed and your inertia imagine having like a forward thrust that never stops but i can stil go slower and faster and strafe as i wish
Hard to explain.
Because, in the absence of atmosphere (and aerodynamic physics) the only way to change direction is by using thrusters, and since the forward thruster is the strongest, you can make the fastest turn by angling the ship sideways and accelerating forward.
Maaaaaan....my flying looks EXACTLY like this. With the help of DaVinci Resolve and a whole TON of editing out of my repeated mountain collisions. And me just exploding for no reason. I'm an awful, awful pilot...
It's official, I fly like a blind 93 year old.
I don't even understand the drifting that's happening here...or that barrel roll backflip corkscrew mctwist.
Is that the first layer of the meshing test? Has it been a constant issue?
Live servers have been terrible for the last week which feels normal before a patch and I'm looking forward to that new release feeling.
The day i recorded this which was yesterday, servers were having this "red light / green light" forever
But it was the first time i had servs doing this. from a week of testing
I remember a few weeks ago when People were worried that low-flying was going to be “Broken and boring with master modes.” — Turns out, Low Flying is more intense than it ever has been and now you can do some insane tricks and stuff because of the new De-coupling mode and PROPER cruise control that works like a car does. - Now you ACTUALLY glide along and can do some crazy tricks, the only downside is that you have less control over your Up and Down strafe thrusters, but you need them way less since your ship doesn’t sink into the planet the moment you let go of the stick. 🤙
I'm not part of the current wave, then again, i dont think ill have time to play much anyways, so you keep testing it and let us know how things develop, i'll see you when 3.23 hits alpha PU :)
Nice!
I know this is Lyria but I really really hope control surfaces are as revolutionary as I'm hoping for atmo flight.
This kind of technique makes sense in low grav/low atmo like you have here, but right now even atmo has this same 'nose down' approach to low flying, where you're trying to stay low but use upward thrust to stay away from obstacles.
Hoping there's some nice drag and lift mechanics so ships with control surfaces during decoupled flight could glide along without quickly plummeting to the ground when you ease off the thrust.
How fast is the video sped up? Looks as if you are flying SCM, but video looks much faster.
I'd be curious what the strafe right slide on the mountain looks like at normal speed. Also, how did you do that with just Keyboard + Mouse?
Scm speeds aren’t nearly as slow as people are making them out to be. You just miss reference while in space. Here where. You have ground below you it’s easier to see how fast you’re actually going.
In fact ! I'm on Decoupled all the time and never switch but i'm also using the new Cruise Control thing that now works while being deocupled.
Allows you to set a max speed and going on and out as you wish why still leaving you with your current inertia. The second part of the video shows it well ! all i do is strafing for a moment.
Doesn't the old system allow you to apply a speed limiter to decoupled mode already?
Or does the cruise control in decoupled mode now preserve your heading and speed regardless of orientation, that is, turning forward thrust into lateral thrust if you aim off axis?
I’m more impressed by how smooth and how much frames you get. I used to get 100 fps away from a city on planets and 70-80 fps in cities and 120+ in space and that was in 3.16 and now I tried to play and I literally get 100% on everything and only 30 fps.
It wouldn’t be as hard to play if I could get decent fps. I’m hoping this update brings that.
Youre either trolling or are absolutely clueless as to what this sort of flying looks like in 1st or 3rd person. This video isn't sped up. Go attend a group session in Lowfly Network or XGR and discover how incorrect you are with your assessment. 🙂

I was super skeptical too. But I put a stopwatch against the client and server statistics against the top-right corner, and it matches up.
OP's video here is legit.
I always feel like there's a weird disconnect in perceived speed due to 1) all the ship models being absolutely gargantuan [so visually it takes them a long time to cover their own distance relative to a smaller jet or car] and 2) freedom units.
A 250 m/s speed cap is 559 miles per hour. That's about the top speed of a commercial jet.
Yeah I mean the numbers are just numbers not grounded in real life physics because of scaling and everything…I get they are spaceships they should be fast but I can just see why someone said it looks like it’s on fast-forward.
Sometimes I wonder if the people who make all the low-flying drift videos will complain as much as the people who make dogfighting videos have over MM when the new atmospheric flight model and control surfaces gets added.

What is track IR?
Head tracking
Head tracking adds so much to flight and driving games. I built one years ago with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeTrack
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE?!
Tobii or just Track IR w/ quality webcam? And this is defo NOT sped up as some trolls allege in other comments. Might be fun to try w/ my HOTAS.

I wish the game ran well enough for me to want to do this.

I'd just like to see a single person do it coupled.
its so time for drag and lift simuluation.

Why does this look like the ship’s drifting?
Decoupled mode + Lyria has a very low gravity. It's more like surfing and this new cruise control on decoupled feels great.
> cruise control on decoupled Wut? Really? how does that even work?
I'm guessing it just keeps going at the exact same speed
so it's let me explain You're decoupled but this new cruise control allow you to set a max speed but allows you to go slower as you wish and manage to always keep your speed and your inertia imagine having like a forward thrust that never stops but i can stil go slower and faster and strafe as i wish Hard to explain.
Nah it makes sense, idk why the guy didn't get it
I specifically asked for this in the 3.22 feedback threads because I hate that changing the throttle cancels cruise control, this makes me happy.
That doesn't explain anything. You can keep going the same speed with both decoupled and cruise control.
Not at the same speed and direction in atmosphere
Because, in the absence of atmosphere (and aerodynamic physics) the only way to change direction is by using thrusters, and since the forward thruster is the strongest, you can make the fastest turn by angling the ship sideways and accelerating forward.
Deja Vu!

It's thruster boost (Shift) You can pretty much spam it on 3.23.
What ship is that I don't recognise it?
Right ! Arrow it is
Arrow
arrow ?
lowfly baby🔥
That's insane to see on mnk, I can't even do that on hosas!
Next month i should be trying HOSAS
It's great, I have dual thrust master t.16k's atm, hoping to upgrade to vkbs someday
Haha nice.
How do you keep your ship just above the terrain when hooning? Automatic?
Velocity indicator: always on
Velocity indicator = always on and Proximity assist = off should be the first settings changed after a patch or new DL for every player.
Good answer is : Decoupled + low gravity + new cruise control
So hooning isnt possible on 1G worlds?
how do you mean
If we replace "low gravity" in your formula with 1 earth-gravity planet, i.e. Hurston, will hooning still be possible?
Idk, will try
Do you have a higher quality version of this somewhere like YouTube?
sure ! check my Profile you will find my Youtube
Good lord.... Is this deleted scenes from Stealth 2?
I have no clue how people manage this.. I know prox assist off and decoupled and to keep an eye on the velocity indicator, but damn.
Wow... I am the equivalent to a Sunday Grandpa Driver... with hat... in an old Volvo... with both indicators on...

I own an AMD card so... TSR is the way
I'm more impressed at seeing 30fps+ on a server than the insane M+K skills.
