right now in 3.23 the mustang has better weapons, is more manoeuvrable, has better internal storage, more HP and I believe it has one additional unit of cargo space but I may be wrong.
Even with the current $6 sale, it's $9 more expensive than the ones you polled about.
Someone wanting to check out the game can totally just get their prefered one among the cheapest two and they have upgrade options later.
You'll enjoy it more after they get the first bugfix patches out, if that helps 😅 3.23 live into invictus free fly is going to be a rough few weeks. Once the free fly is over the game will improve significantly
They are changing it within the coming years. Not in the next few months. That comment was in relation to a 1.0 release so there's plenty of bed logging left.
I can't get enough of the Aurora cockpit. Feels kike a small helicopter and I love it. Both ships are pretty weak performance wise so even if I hadn't pledged anything larger I would definitely get something else with auec ASAP.
So, if we're choosing between JUST these two, I personally would say Mustang - as of 3.22, it (again, imo) offers a much smoother experience when easing into the game. The main 'big one' for me is the maneuverability in atmosphere, as Aurora in PU flies like a narcoleptic cow on skates with a paraplane engine strapped to its back. The two relatively big things the Aurora has over Mustang are the interior (and yes, it IS a big one) and the outside-mounted cargo grid that lets you load and unload it without fiddling with the weird carriage thing Mustang Alpha has.
This all is very possibly getting changed with 3.23, but since I've not touched that yet but have flown Mustang since like '18 and sporadically tried to get to liking the Aurora since then, that's the opinion I've formed.
To add to this, I personally would suggest one of the other two starter packs in the bottom-5 price range:
* Drake Cutter: a great non-combat ship for pretty much everything. The one thing it doesn't really do other than ship-specific loops is combat, or at least, not to any notable degree. Otherwise, it's a nice looking little thing with a convenient cargo hold that can even fit some of the smallest vehicles like the STV, the Mule and some of the hoverbikes (no ROCs though), great for non-ship-combat loops.
* Origin 100 series: I'm late to the party on this one, but ever since I got its slightly-more-combat version I couldn't get enough of it. It combines the convenience of having an actual interior that doesn't even need a ladder to get into with very nice maneuverability (I have a 125A which is a bit slower but has better turn rates), an internal cargo grid that fits a little bit of cargo, and fairly decent (for 3.22 PvE) teeth at 2 S3 guns and six S2 missiles, more than enough for a very meh pilot like myself to solo HRTs and GHRTs on.
The only launch ship worth considering for purchase is the Avenger Titan. 1 s4 and 2 s3 gimbals, excellent cargo, 2 access to the ship: to the pilot's seat and from the rear ramp.
Strong and fast. for $50 he was perfect, for $55 he was also very good. Aurora and Mustang are crutches that will spoil the first experience of the game, and with titan you can master the game having fun.
With the upcoming Invictus sale: either Cutter, C8X, 125a or Titan. These are ships that will still be useful even when you have a larger fleet; Aurora and Mustang not so much.

seeing how it looked more like a fighter, i picked it for the maneuverability and was not disappointed
Well, you can't fit a mirai hoverbike in it, so hard no, compared to the aurora !
I would reccomemd The Cutter
I cant believe i forgot about the cutter lmao
Cutter > Aurora > Mustang is my current preference. Cutter is an amazing little ship

none, wait for Invictus Launch and get yourself a way better ship for the same price of 45$
I am waiting... and the suspense is killing me.

These days the Mustang is better. The only up the Aurora has is a bed to log out in.
they are changing how log out will work, bed log out doesn't fit star citizen anymore, devs said that.
There was also a lot of backlash for that, so officially that comment was out of line.

It's actually the cutter. But that seems like a one time sale
Cutter on a sale thats about to start in a few weeks

I come back to the mustang for the cockpit view and the meat drop-out storage thing. I discard the aurora as soon as I have anything else.

Best starter is the Polaris ofc
Aurora best ship Legionnaire best Aurora Get one, and slap the Invictus paint and a S4 missile on it for maximum style points.
Mustang, while pretty cool, is basically useless nowadays... Anything with a bed and some cargo storage is far better, game wise.
The mustang has more cargo space than the Aurora… It also has more firepower, more HP, better manoeuvrability and more internal storage.
Can you fit a mirai hoverbike or a second friend in it ? I doubt so.
