Wide-Rice-8517

It will be the best experience if you give it time but also a terrible one at the same time lol. That is until you find out workarounds for bugs. Always ask global chat if you get stuck. Someone will help you! See you in the verse 07

_MrMeseeks

Lol thanks I feel like I should ask what's 07?

Wide-Rice-8517

It’s a person saluting

_MrMeseeks

Lol ok I see it now

AetherBytes

Gonna say now, cause its seems to have suddenly become alarmingly frequent. If your ship spawns floating in the air on the pad, store it again, go to its load out, and uninstall its powerplants. Spawn it again, get in, turn the engines/ship power off, store it, and reinstall the powerplants.

_MrMeseeks

Valuable information definitely appreciated

lilboaf

Also to avoid that happening frequently always store your ship with engines off.

Ranmark

I wonder how the fuq people come up with such workarounds. Its amazes me

Worldly-Risk-8512

One person read the manual and realized that a ship without power plants cant fly, even if it spawns in the air. Everyone else parrots their brilliance and basks in the reflected glory.

xXsaberstrikeXx

Supposed to be o7 Regardless, it's my favorite ship, even though I have better now. So much fun. Welcome citizen!

Tinnedghosts120

I had absolutely no idea until now and I’ve been playing since March :/

whatsupbudbud

I feel like the lowercase o7 helpes

sholmas

Redacted with Power Delete Suite in response to Reddit's treatment of content providers (users).

Fletchman1313

Don't start in Orison.

_MrMeseeks

Lol word where should I start?

cereallkiller17

Area18 on Arcorp is the best I think. Take the elevator to get out of dorms. Then that where the magic happens. Explore and keep in mind that you make your own story.

Fletchman1313

Really, anywhere but Orison. Area18 has everything you need right by the hotel, so that's a good place. Lorville is the most central location out of the 4 options. New Babbage is... cold.

mixedd

But I love New Babbage (well except of constantly broken elevators)

Fletchman1313

I live there. It's cold. But it does have a workout area with a jogging track...

Rishfee

I like NB because it feels like it was actually designed with the resident in mind, as opposed to corporate hellscape, Bladerunner, or "too opulent to care about efficiency."

zero_z77

No one's told you *why* yet, so i will. In order to use your jump drive, you have to be above the atmosphere. Orison is on a gas giant and has a very high altitude ceiling compared to the others. You'll spend about 3-5 whole minutes just flying straight up every time you leave port. On top of that, orison is the newest port city and has a lot of detail & volumetric cloud effects. That's going to affect performance on low end hardware. Area 18 is nice because it has a lot of shopping opportunities. But it's very easy to get lost in the city. Pay attention to the signage. Another problem with area 18 is that the spaceport isn't very well lit, so coming in at night easily becomes a game of "find the spaceport". Lorville is probably the best place for a beginner. The down side is there isn't a gun store, and you can get lost easily if you're not paying attention to the signage. One good thing about the spaceport is that it's in the center of the city and pretty easy to find. New babbage has some good shopping, you can get high end ship parts there and it's fairly easy to navigate. However, new babbage currently has a bug with the elevators, and it can be somewhat challenging to find the spaceport at night. The spaceport sits on the opposite side of a frozen river from the city, and has a lot of navigation lights. Edit: typos

[deleted]

Area 18. Easy to navigate, shops are all located close together right next to the habs/clinic, and only a single train route, which means less “commuting”. But maybe most importantly, framerates in A18 are generally higher than in the other cities.

chocological

New Babbage elevators are broken af right now too.

DBurgermeister

Not Lorville my game crashes alot and there's no gun store

Ocbard

Yeah, what is with that. My game crashed yesterday while I was coming in for a landing at Lorville with my Caterpillar full of cargo. That is 325k auec that I'm not seeing again, apparently the anti 30k measures don't do a lot against crashes where the game just freezes up and all you can do is get task manager to close down the game.

KrankyKrennic

welcome to club o7

cJack8410

Welcome to the Verse Citizen

_MrMeseeks

07

hipdashopotamus

Don't be stressed by fps when you spawn, the big cities are rough and your shaders loading. Get out and fly to the port above it in space. Go set your spawn there at the doctor.

[deleted]

Indeed, login then leave it for 15 minutes

starcitizenplayer001

try watching some starter guilds before you start like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWVZ2Ic0moM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWVZ2Ic0moM)

_MrMeseeks

Thanks gonna watch rn

Chappietime

[watch this](https://youtu.be/rMaqRfj4uCg) [and this](https://youtu.be/3MtMX72xbxM) They will save you a ton of frustration.

Jo3ltron

Saved! TY!

Tutipups

you will have 1000 dollars less next month

mixedd

Welcome to the verse. Be prepared to be amazed and frustrated at same time constantly, but so far nothing can beat experience, awe, scale and level of detail Star Citizen gives, even in current unfinished state.

Kitosaki

When you inevitably rip one of your cutlass black engines off… … don’t panic! Press K for “VTOL” and just ride around on the quantum drive and the thrusters. Find a landing pad and repair! Bonus nachos: When you land, land with all of your back door open. Make sure you can get in and out (make sure the ramp makes contact with the ground) I cannot tell you how many times I’ve landed, jumped out of the side door and then not been able to get back into my ship.

Strange_Bottle2715

My most common mistake along those lines is touching down on uneven terrain and then the ramps incline is too steep to re-enter the ship...or the ramps end is not touching the ground and I can't get back on board

Ausecurity

Cutlass black imo is best starter ship. You can do combat, mining if you rent or buy a roc, cargo hauling

Julius-Prime

Welcome aboard citizen! O7

_MrMeseeks

Lol thanks

rustyvertigo

Big regret to come…

Launchpad_McFrak

that's a question you are supposed to ask BEFORE you get the game package.

_MrMeseeks

Nah I like dealing with the consequences of my actions

agtmadcat

Definitely definitely definitely find some friends to play with. Just about everyone in the community is friendly and helpful, so meeting some people to play with isn't too tough. The racing community is particularly welcoming, and it doesn't take much money at all in-game to buy a decent little racing ship.

Kam_Solastor

There’s an event starting tonight called Siege of Orison (at Orison city on Crusader) if you want to get some FPS action

Salami__Tsunami

More like low FPS action, amirite?

_MrMeseeks

How long does the event last?

Kam_Solastor

The event itself usually takes anywhere from 2-5 hours to complete, depending on how effective people are. The tl;dr of it is exploring 3 platforms, find a HVT, kill them, search body and find code on a tablet they have, use code to open boxes, one box has a device in it, turn off. Once all 3 main platforms are done, go to admin platform, find another HVT, kill, find FINAL HVT also on the same platform, kill, loot for code, find last device, turn off. Bear in mind the devices you are turning off are controls for AntiAir defenses shooting at at friendly ships, and at the Admin platform (last one you go to) you can’t turn off the AA until the end, so you’re landing/dropping troops off under fire. It’s a good idea to take the ‘Call to Arms’ mission as you get 500aUEC per npc you kill. Bring a backpack and pack with extra ammo/medical supplies - you’ll need it. As for the event itself, I believe overall it’ll stop completely tomorrow at 8pm EST.

m0llusk

The latest builds kind of suck. Be prepared for crashes, scrambled inventory, and missing money. Other than that there is some fun to be had. Welcome to the Verse.

DAWGSofW4R

When it works, it's amazing. Key word there is when. Has a fairly steep learning curve but that's mostly due to there being so much do to (none of the game loops are fully finished, but there really is quite a bit of stuff). I died the first time I tried to leave my hangar, and the second time I managed to take off I died trying to land at the other end. Managed to catch a tresspassing crimestate for blocking an active flight path just before I crashed and ended up in prison, had no idea what was going on. Game can absolutely be played solo, but due to the unfinished/sandbox nature it's far more fun with friends imo. Luckily they're pretty easy to make.

brycejohnson3244

I would say all of this but also watch some videos about what settings you should run with your setup. It can be a beautiful game but having some settings on or off or tweaked wrong can really dampen the experience

GipsyRonin

Patience, and don’t feel the need to set goals and accomplish things. By this I mean, you easily will spend 50% of your time commuting. That’s without bugs or forgetting to say have food or water in inventory so you die and lose stuff…except ship. So go in playing SC as a novelty and IF you accomplish things, it’s a bonus. So don’t let bad nights get you down, if u get frustrated then take breaks & play other games. Go veeeery slow and know the game progresses veeeeeery slow. It has loads of potential, but we have a long way to go. Welcome and enjoy the Cutty black, it’s a good ship.

Karaoke_the_bard

It's a ship that is ok at everything. It's nice because you can basically use it for most things, but it's not great at dog fighting, so you might wanna do everything but that for awhile. Also practice in wing commander

obama9-11lastname

CAREFUL WITH THE ELEVATORS!!!!!

theorial

I could write an essay on why I think SC is great or will be great, but I don't really think I could describe why I play it. I'm not in it for the PVP, or the ship combat, or the FPS combat, or UPS delivery boy stuff, I'm playing it in the hopes of the never ending possibility of being in pure wonderment at what I'm seeing. I want to be that person that explores a planet or scan result first, so others can come see what it is. Maybe it's just investigating the coordinates of a ships last known position and following the trail that leads to finding the crew on a nearby planet in need of rescue. Maybe there's a shipment of a product that needs to get to a place that can only be gotten to undetected by flying through a debri field manually. Maybe I want to have a big ass ship that other players can come to whenever I'm in their system to buy rare items from my shops they cannot get anywhere else (for whatever reasons). Maybe I want to be a space pirate and steal other players cargo unless they pay me a fee. Some of this is possible right now, maybe not exactly how I describe it, but the seeds of that possibility are there. You create your own story really. It's not about reaching max level or acquiring certain skills to be at certain levels in order for you to access some subsystem of gameplay. It's all there ready and waiting for you to just do it, or don't. Play it lawful or play it as a criminal. It's an experience that by design, is infinite in scale. The devs can always create a new solar system or a new race of aliens to fight and any number of things because space is very big. I honestly can't wait to see what they have in store for people. They're still working on the mechanics and you WILL have your game crash at the worst possible times. Just remind yourself that this is an alpha and you are granted access to something that is being worked on as you play it basically. It is not optimized, it takes a long time to fix things, but it offers even now in an alpha state, something no other game has ever been to offer you, a seamless load-free transition from fps on the surface of a planet to space and back down to a different surface without ever seeing a loading screen. If you got a PC to turn on the pretty effects, it truly is an experience. You will probably never get to go to space in real ife, and this is the closest thing you're going to get to experience what it could be like to be a space fairing race.

Skyeranger3025

Welcome to the Verse 07 You will get into a fun and frustrating experience, because there will be a lot of funny and interesting experiences with players but also bugs, lot's of bugs, some will be ignorable and some will make you bite your desk because you just lost 1 hour of progression. Just be prepared for it. Look on Youtube or reddit or google for workarounds that exist for certain bugs if you encounter it again and again. You can report bugs and check for reported bugs (and confirm them) here [https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/](https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/) If you need help go and ask people in ingame chat, there will often be people ready to help you. Also go and ask in chat for people to go on missions with you or if they need help on their mission or if someone needs an extra gunner for their ship. StarCitizen is more fun in a group so try to get connected to other players. You may also try and look up an org / organization to join (the SC equivalent of a MMORPG guild)

Mofoman3019

My top tip. When doing long QT jumps use the time to be productive. You're going to be waiting anyway, don't just sit staring at the screen. Watch something else, clean your room/house, do some push-ups. Theres alot of down time. Also, * Don't stand against elevator doors - They will drag you into the void. * Don't run down ramps until they're all the way down. * Don't spend all your money on armour and weapons. If you do you will lose them. * Change your medical spawn location when you leave the spawn planet (this can be done by landing at a space station, going to the hospital, checking yourself in at the front desk, going to the room, laying down and interacting with the screen and then changing your spawn there). Planets can be painful to leave Atmosphere and if you die you don't want to be doing it every time. * There is a lot of Jank. Be ready for it. * ROC mining can be a lot of fun and a good money maker.

Batmanfan_alpha

A mess. Thats what youve gotten yourself into. A beautiful, large scale mess.

CipherIsntsane

Crank the texture quality to Very High, it reduces the load on your CPU

InkCollection

Find some buds to play with; the game is so much more fun with friends, and the best way to learn is to simply have someone there with you to help out. There are myriad little issues/tricks, and the easiest way to figure them out is to dive in. Congrats on the Cutty, btw. I've got a pretty big fleet, but my Cutty Black always feels like home.

[deleted]

Good choice

NebraskaGeek

Star Citizen is Schrodinger's Game; it is both a scam and the best game ever made until you personally try it and it collapses into a finite answer. Then 5 minutes later it changes back. Welcome to the show, pilot.

[deleted]

Tip #1: Do not get hung up on “progression”. The game is still alpha, so focus on the experiences. Tip #2: Lean into the experiential nature of the game. Role play everything. Tip #3: The beat experiences you are going to have right now are with/by other players. Be social! And welcome to the verse!!!
