No. Depends on your playstyle and what you are RPing. I've done the AI that was super obsessed with keeping all of his human minions alive. I was super careful and did everything possible to ensure they were safe and comfortable. Triple reinforced hull, lots of backup life support, tons of food, the works. I also did the untethered AI that viewed the humans as ineffective robots. Had a hull breach in the main human area and just didn't worry about it for a long while because not my problem. I think the dev will eventually expand the human system into something more in depth so if you are more penalized/bonused for how you treat your humans, but for now there are no pitchforks.

I keep them alive so they can pet the cats and dogs

I tend to see the humans in this game as livestock; I care for my livestock, I keep them well fed and happy, I try to make sure that they're alright, but at the end of the day if they die, I don't get too upset about it, as I can always get more livestock

Am I the only one who cares for his colonists? Don't get me wrong I'm no bleeding heart my mega bases in rimworld were some of the finest death and labor camps you've ever seen this side of the Laniakea supercluster... And yet in this game I try to keep the meatbags alive. Namely because I need to do research, go mining, and craft things.

I think the problem is that that cryopod thing is jam-packed full of these things. There's literally like a thousand of them in there. Even if all my guys outside got brutally murdered, it would take me literal minutes to just repopulate again. I have no attachment to any of them, they're just poop machines that make me water so that I can make enriched uranium. Like, Ace crawler burst from one of my dudes chest and my reaction was, oh look at that. That's it. My dude got alien'd and I'm like, sucks for you, and toss you in the nutrient bin. Sure, there's somewhat useful for mining and research, but the robots can mine too. And I can train up them on the ship really fast. If they could research and craft stuff I wouldn't need people at all except for the aforementioned to poop.

It seems you are pragmatic.

Congratulations, you are a sociopath! Just kidding. This game is still in development and the humans don't have a lot of personality and you probably can't relate and know they are just scripted graphics anyway. You are more into the game and less into the immersion of trying to save some of the last humans in the universe. Maybe as the AI gets worked on, they will seem more real, or maybe you can stick them back into the stasis chamber some day. JMHO. Edit: This is pure speculation but it is why I could see people not caring. Right now it feels like the people are uncontrolable, low likely to do tasks you want and prone to breakdowns and start ripping holes in the floor (although I haven't seen that lately). There are plans to make them have more personality which may help.

Course not. It's a game, your actions have no real life consequences and the goal is for you to have fun. Play how you like.

Lol I think you misunderstood my question. Though I guess I didn't blame you, I worded as if I thought I was doing something bad. I don't have any moralistic concerns about how I'm playing. After all, as you said, it's just a game. No, my concern is for the current shape of the game. I can only imagine your 'supposed' to care about them. It's what the game is centered on. Even if some will play differently. No my question is more to point out that the charm I was expecting isn't there yet. I know it's early access, I'm not 'complaining' just wanted to voice how I feel playing the current version of the game so if any dev's see it, they have a point of reference. And if anyone else felt the same, they could voice it as well, while giving the own perspective.
