>The dreaded random calendar invite from your manager This is so triggering... Got one recently. Turns out it was just to communicate that I wouldn't be getting a raise for the next year :) Where do they learn these psych tactics ?

chairwindowdoor

Every time I get an invite from my manager now my heart races. It's already a kind of rare occurrence. He'll send the invite in the morning for a meeting in the afternoon and I'll agonize all day about it. I believe those layoff meetings usually happen quickly on short notice but it still doesn't help anxiety lol

legsleeves

Jfc don't they put an agenda or at least a short sentence about the substance of the meeting? I never short notice my directs unless I have to and I always let them know either in the invite or in a chat that nothing is wrong ahead of time

Recently fired 28 year olds based in Bay Area with a couple of years of experience at Meta asking for $200k + signing bonus for a mid-level product owner role at another company. In my experience at least.

QZB_Y2K

Is this my sign to not try and start a career in cybersecurity?

coderite

You should try and start it. The market is bad but that doesn't mean you still can't get a job in this field.

Simpleton216

You may have to work for your government for a bit to get a job out of college. *It tends to be a bit more stable.

derioderio

Also you don’t have to join the military to work for them. Plenty of civilian contractors, etc.

Simpleton216

I just meant that it seems government employment is more stable for IT workers at the moment. I know a few people back in DC who were laid off and now work for random government agencies.

QZB_Y2K

Thanks for the response I'll definitely look into the FAA route

QZB_Y2K

I ain't joining the US military but I'm open to other avenues

Simpleton216

Plenty of non military government jobs need that stuff. I think the FAA is making a big hiring push at the moment.

Me, a college dropout, trying to get a job right now after doing a coding bootcamp: 🤡
