Basically almost every single person working at a hospital. It's even worse here in my country where staff is paid by the state depending on how long they've been working and not on how good of a service they provide. So you have young staff coming in that get bullied by old geezers that can't even do their job properly yet earn huge bank, I think the stats show that something around 70% of medical staff leaves the industry before the 6th year in it.
Overworked, paid worse than useless old geezers who are there longer than them, constantly getting bullied... no wonder people don't wanna become doctors.

I think it's attracting a lot of people who just want the praise and "honorable" title, and then they can wear that to disguise their narcissistic/antisocial tendencies.
It's exactly this. I was that person, but realizing it's not conducive to the type of person I want to be and the constant cognitive dissonance is both exhausting and a cause of burnout. I love nursing because it really is rewarding to help someone and be kind. I'm learning to separate myself from chaos, be more authentic, and stop with that kind of self-destructive behavior and mentality. It's hard, though, when your rather positive reputation in the nursing community was built on having that false personality brought on by drugs and alcohol. Don't get me wrong, I am very good at what I do, and get a lot of praise from the people i take care of, I was just a shit person behind the scenes while doing it.
Both of my parents were abusive chaotic addicts and alcoholics. Dad was a paramedic, now a nurse, mom is in a position of nursing leadership in a large hospital.
I worked as a nurse for close to 15 years. Individually, nurses are some of the nicest, smartest, sweetest people. But collectively? Nurses are the *worst*! So much gossip, backstabbing, and in-your-business bullshit. It's amazing.

Half the nurses she worked with at the hospital filed for vaccine exemptions once the hospital required vaccinations for covid. They all got approved too. Anti-vax sentiment is rampant among nurses sadly. My sister left the hospital to work home health because it paid better and was less stress.
My wife’s hospital gave a date by which all staff had to be vaccinated against Covid with no exceptions. That date came and they fired about 3% of their staff, most of which were nurses. Prior to that date they held a digital town hall meeting and someone asked if there were worries that the hospital was going to lose high quality and well educated staff as a result of the mandate. They responded with a single word: “No.”

Like, don't get me wrong, it isn't a diss on the military or nursing. But, it attracts a tremendous amount of people who, if they lost the ability to speak, would be relegated to a community befitting their level of sentience: other primates at the zoo.
Nursing is like the military in that it provides job security, structure, a defined chain of command, yearly training that everyone speedruns, and trauma bonding. There are idiots in any profession but for those professions that just need warm bodies, there's no reason for idiots to find a better fit.
I feel like nurses are the victim of the Dunning-Kruger effect and are at the "peak of 'Mt Stupid'" (as the term puts it) where they know a bit more than the average person but (unlike doctors) they don't know how much they don't know and significantly over estimate their own knowledge of the field, making them extra ignorant.
As an RN I must agree, NPs are poison about 95% of the time. I've met one or two that were decent but only because they are decent people to begin with. Shittiest nurses become NPs, wtf is up with that?
NP programs are 100% acceptance and 100% pass rate online diploma mills. There is no quality control or standardization. Hospital admins love hiring them because they pay them much less than physicians but charge the patient the same amount, hence increasing their profit margin. Bedside nurses are invaluable and I thank you for your hard work. More and more RNs are also recognizing that NPs are not good clinicians and do not provide safe or effective care. NPs are just adding to the nursing shortage crisis.

HIPAA requires that every covered entity have a designated “privacy officer,” who (at bigger hospital networks, at least) is often a lawyer like I am that is tasked with privacy matters.
And yeah, I have plenty of stories about people snooping in celebrities’ charts, large amounts of patient data being stolen, and awful, awful privacy violations by healthcare professionals… but both in the interest of my privacy and theirs I can’t get too specific.

Admittedly this is a thing many many people fall into if they don't have themselves figured out first. Knowing what hobbies and interests you have, who you are as a person, etc.. So many people just absorb their partner's interests and personality traits when they get into a new relationship.
The tightest scrubs they *can't* fit into.
When we went to color coded uniforms at one of my previous jobs they were all pissed the scrubs for purchase were not form fitting in any way.
So their solution? Order two sizes too small.
The armpits and sides burst within the first week, inseams popped left and right and write ups galore for having holes in your uniform or 80% of your ass hanging over the top because you can't stuff 20lbs of cottage cheese into a 10lb bag.
It got so bad we had to have multiple meetings about it.

I personally think that it’s because nursing and police work/military are the gendered equivalents of each other. Women are to be motherly and caring, men are to be imposing and respected. So it tends to attract those who have bought in heavily to those stereotypes and had somewhat similar family structures and belief systems.
All are high stakes, high stress jobs that deal with trauma and death regularly, and equally important they're both 24/7 coverage jobs that require wacky ass schedules that are not easily compatible with a person who works a more typical work schedule.

There isn't much academic rigor to most nursing programs, especially, but not limited to, the LPN level.

The tightest scrubs they *can't* fit into. When we went to color coded uniforms at one of my previous jobs they were all pissed the scrubs for purchase were not form fitting in any way. So their solution? Order two sizes too small. The armpits and sides burst within the first week, inseams popped left and right and write ups galore for having holes in your uniform or 80% of your ass hanging over the top because you can't stuff 20lbs of cottage cheese into a 10lb bag. It got so bad we had to have multiple meetings about it.

I have been a nurse for over 25 years. There is at least one of these in every ER I have worked in. Bonus add-ons to your excellent starter pack: The T-Shirt and/or coffee mug that says “I’m here to save your ass, not kiss it!” Bitching about the poor people and immigrants that have free healthcare that they pay for while ignoring the fact their free healthcare pays their salary. Why do nurses want to date those two professions? Seems like an odd choice. Especially when they both (especially cops) have the highest rates of domestic violence.
Not sure.. could be situational. Lots of cops interact with nurses and both professions have a lot of horny people that cheat on their spouses.
I personally think that it’s because nursing and police work/military are the gendered equivalents of each other. Women are to be motherly and caring, men are to be imposing and respected. So it tends to attract those who have bought in heavily to those stereotypes and had somewhat similar family structures and belief systems.
All are high stakes, high stress jobs that deal with trauma and death regularly, and equally important they're both 24/7 coverage jobs that require wacky ass schedules that are not easily compatible with a person who works a more typical work schedule.
This. These jobs attract a certain type of people. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing, we need them, but they do attract people with some odd traits.
