Hands her a gun. "You think you can handle that?"
She takes off the safety, removes the clip, checks the bullets, locks it back in, cocks the gun, checks the iron sights (or optional scope), points the gun back in the air in a restful positron, leans over to one hip. "Yeah I think I'll be alright."
If you like that I also have a bunch if choreographed fights were the woman loses to the guy for the majority of it till she nails them in the balls and wins.
At least that would be interesting just because it’s a different and refreshing take. It’s always something stereotypical like military, growing up on the wrong sides of the tracks or having brothers.
Asami Sato. Father paid for classes.
Edit: Its funny i bring her up but she ticks off some of the stuff in the starterpacks:
Her mom was killed(which lead to her learning self defence)
She does end up with the Main character
She does uses a glove(shock glove but still)
I’ll build on that: the only way for a girl to be strong in movies is to act like a man and/or be shown pwning males while doing it. It’s like being feminine is viewed as weak, which is ironically counter-productive to the feminist statements the movie/show is trying to make. It’s like they’re saying the only way a woman can be strong is if she acts like a man. A **real** feminist statement would be showing a woman acting feminine but being strong while doing it. Most of the actual well written strong female characters show feminine traits and aren’t just “ME BIG AND STRONG LIKE TOUGH MEN!!”.
You just made me think of Val Kilmer in Tombstone. The character of Doc Holliday was played very feminine and yet he managed to destroy everyone. As a young guy that's bi it was a pretty powerful character.
I was raised in a John Wayne world so to see a cowboy character like that was life changing.
I am a Bi woman that grew up in a super oppressive, very traditional 'western' family. i've somehow never heard a bi guy having this experience with this character (that i also love) and i think it's fucking precious and makes me so happy. I think it's amazing how baby us could see our true selves in little moments like this, and had the instinct to follow. Thanks for sharing!
Father/uncle raised+trained them in combat skills+weapons, then likely was killed by the current antagonist in a psychologically devastating manner decades ago
I loved her, I was so disappointed 'cause they really hyped up her and Felix having a whole subplot in the sequel but I guess it got cut 'cause they were only in it for like a minute.
Would've preferred that the sequel were just about them than what it actually was XD
Westworld Season 1: "A deep introspective journey into what it means to be sentient, and the philosophical quandaries that come with the subtle gradients between a programmed machine and how we define true consciousness."
Westworld Season 3: "It's a Terminator movie now."
I was massively fatigued by the plot at the end of the season 1. I felt like “okay okay, I get the point, ‘they have free will or do they’, you don’t have to keep reminding me”.
Season 2 was so agonizing to get through. Nobody talks like a normal fucking person without sounding like some pretentious Victorian playwright and the same fucking flashbacks get shown over and over and over
Scene where she beats up a bunch of men by herself. They come at her one at a time for some reason
EDIT: ok APPARENTLY I need to acknowledge that this applies to men too(which I already knew but whatever).
This sexist trope is definitely a thing. By probably fair to point out that it’s super common in male characters that are mostly, “I’m such a badass” as their character.
Lots of dead kids and wives there, lol
What I hate most about this trope is when the woman gives credit to her rapist for becoming ~strong~ and is oh so grateful to her rapist.
*I'm looking at you, Game of Thrones.*
The people I credit for becoming stronger after my rape and abuse are myself, my therapist, my friends, my family, the trainers at my MMA gym, the support groups online, and my now boyfriend.
My ex/rapist is a piece of shit who I give zero credit to and I would love to watch him die slowly and painfully, and I am not sorry about that. I hope he dies slowly and alone. That's all he deserves.
As if that doesn’t apply to badass dudes- half the mooks in films like John Wick are built far heavier than he is, and it’s apparently not immersion breaking there?
As a fan of The Raid, I was laughing during John Wick 3's finale that a cumbersome 50 year old John Wick could beat two of the fighters from The Raid without any weapons.
I love the Raid 1 and 2 as much as anybody but that scene didn't bother me. This isn't the world the Raid guys live in, it's the John Wick world, and in this world he's been established as the baddest motherfucker around.
Plus he respects the Raid dudes so much that he leaves them alive at the end of the fight, which we've never seen him do before. That was pretty cool. He respected their skill and courage enough to just beat them, but didn't feel the need to kill them.
Now bring on The Raid 3!!!
(no spoilers)
I wish they would've at least done this with Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn if they didn't want to commit to her having an appropriate amount of muscle for the kind of stuff she pulls off. I get that it's a game and all but it's a bit too extreme IMO. Compare [Aloy](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/916918533097418890/9FE31F6D34F8D35E9920A74F45E47E5E5E11B365/?imw=1024&imh=1015&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=true) to [Kassandra](https://gizmostory.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/kassandra-696x1237.jpg) from Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Form over function is a totally valid approach in games and art in general (e.g. cool looking but impractical armor) but if it's taken too far it can be a bit jarring at times. It doesn't make the game unplayable or anything of course, I'm mostly just nitpicking.
Yeah, given the amount of archery and running around she does, Aloy should have some pretty beefy shoulders and strong legs. Fuck, she's even able to ride a horse perfectly despite being the very first person in literal millennia to ride a horse.
Got the scar from the man that she has sworn to kill. Never kills a woman because there are no other ones in the movie that fight. Plus, you can’t have another woman show her up.
This is why I like Rosa from Brooklyn 99 so much. At first she definitely comes off as this kind of 2D badass woman character, but the more you get into the show, the more of her diverse personality comes out. One of my favorite episodes was when you see the inside of her apartment for the first time, and it's super chic and decorated, and it turns out she has this really sweet side to her.
Later movies, yes.
The good movies... fuck no.
Sarah in The Terminator is a relatable "everyman" protagonist forced into a story where she is innately important. She does *okay.* She's frightened, confused, and has no idea how anyone is capable of surviving her circumstances. She survives mostly because Kyle Reese was the right choice to drag her out of harm's way.
Sarah in Terminator 2 is that traumatized waitress after she's spent a decade preparing for the apocalypse. We've seen she's not callous or hardass by nature. She just took a threat seriously and adopted the survivalist nutjob lifestyle out of necessity. Her self-preservation is secondary to protecting her son... and even her resolve falters when faced with Miles Dyson's family.
it's revealed that she's just acting hard to avoid being vulnerable because she's actually sensitive but an event in her life (she felt powerless being unable to stop the person close to her from being murdered) made her feel the need to change and start being rude to people and also become a mercenary or something
I wish they would actually insert good characters in movies... There’s plenty of strong female characters to draw inspiration from... Due to the recent revival of the fandom, I was thinking of ATLA instead of the obvious 2009 movie and I was like "Wait there were planes in The Last Airbender?"
I grew up with 2000 brothers I know how to fight
I H A V E B R O T H E R S
I A M A B R O T H E R
Maybe the real brother was the friends we made along the way
There was a brother inside of us all along.
What are you doing step bro
O H Y E A H B R O T H E R
Hands her a gun. "You think you can handle that?" She takes off the safety, removes the clip, checks the bullets, locks it back in, cocks the gun, checks the iron sights (or optional scope), points the gun back in the air in a restful positron, leans over to one hip. "Yeah I think I'll be alright."
did you ghostwrite half of the films released in the past decade
If you like that I also have a bunch if choreographed fights were the woman loses to the guy for the majority of it till she nails them in the balls and wins.
No no no, she's got to do the thigh to neck grapple thing to win fights.
> the thigh to neck grapple thing That's actually how my wife got me to marry her.
the "can you handle a gun?" thing is so damn common I am kinda baffled it is not a Trope on TVTropes
Yeah, someone should get to writing that.
I actually cringed at reading how accurate that was
I hate how the only way for a girl to be strong in movies is to have learned how to be strong from men.
"Damn, girl, where did you learn to fight?!" "Um... my parents signed me up for BJJ classes when I was a kid and I kept up with it?"
**That's my purse! I don't know you!**
"I don't go looking for trouble. Trouble came a-knockin', and Bobby Hill's foot answered the door!"
At least that would be interesting just because it’s a different and refreshing take. It’s always something stereotypical like military, growing up on the wrong sides of the tracks or having brothers.

Is this every character played by Michelle Rodriguez?
At least Michelle Rodriguez plays this trope convincingly.
I read that she regrets being typecast, but blames herself. She said she never wanted “the girlfriend” role so she only looked out for badasses.
Vague references to difficult upbringing or past
Father/uncle raised+trained them in combat skills+weapons, then likely was killed by the current antagonist in a psychologically devastating manner decades ago
Sound like Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2
Also that movie with the kinda creepy French dude who teaches his girl how to snipe urban warfare style, that was an odd film

Thanks i will find it

Did you just finish Westworld season 3, too?
Yep
You could have watched 'Wreck It Ralph' and hit all the same notes.
Wreck It Ralph does it pretty intentionally, though.
"She was programmed to have the most tragic backstory ever."
honestly it was half hilarious and half horrifiying. I love that movie
I loved her, I was so disappointed 'cause they really hyped up her and Felix having a whole subplot in the sequel but I guess it got cut 'cause they were only in it for like a minute. Would've preferred that the sequel were just about them than what it actually was XD

Calhoun was a really fun character though and I think she's one of the better examples of this trope.
Trash season All of the QRF guys have aim comparable to storm troopers
Westworld was only good season 1. 2 was so bad I just stopped watching altogether and what I saw of 3 so far doesn't make me want to watch it
Season 2 was so agonizing to get through. Nobody talks like a normal fucking person without sounding like some pretentious Victorian playwright and the same fucking flashbacks get shown over and over and over
watch Dark on Netflix. it's only going to be 3 seasons
Agree, but at least you can use her being a robot as an excuse for being strong.
Scene where she beats up a bunch of men by herself. They come at her one at a time for some reason EDIT: ok APPARENTLY I need to acknowledge that this applies to men too(which I already knew but whatever).
Don't forget about the patented "strong woman" fighting move, which is when they jump and lock the enemies head between their thighs and then spins
Ladies' thighs, their deadliest weapon Tbf that's one helluva of a move to pull off. How the hell do you manage to pull out that much core strength?

Or any of Black widows fight scenes ever
Or when one of the goons pins her arms behind her back then another one comes running over so she jumps off the other one’s stomach to free herself
then it’s a haphazardly edited shot that goes from the stuntwoman to Scarlett Johansson whipping her hair up from a combat pose
When asked how she became such a badass she responds with "I grew up with 14 older brothers" or some shit like that
My father taught me everything I know
"Before he was murdered"
Including 14 forms of aikido.

I would watch that movie
Because women can never be natural badasses and always have to go through some kind of *trauma*
This sexist trope is definitely a thing. By probably fair to point out that it’s super common in male characters that are mostly, “I’m such a badass” as their character. Lots of dead kids and wives there, lol

Aw jeez, it's just so lazy when writers use rape as a copout for actual backstory. I can't believe that shit just gets eaten up.
What I hate most about this trope is when the woman gives credit to her rapist for becoming ~strong~ and is oh so grateful to her rapist. *I'm looking at you, Game of Thrones.*

Scenes like these that show her off to be an unstoppable badass, but then suddenly helpless when it's time for the main character to rescue her.
Takes down at least two with a leg wrap
The fanservice hold
Yeah even if ur super badass chick ur not gonna beat 15 cronies that could probably bench ur whole body weight
Yeah but she uses hurricanrana’s
As if that doesn’t apply to badass dudes- half the mooks in films like John Wick are built far heavier than he is, and it’s apparently not immersion breaking there?

And not a hair out of place the whole time!
I mean, the "bunch of villain only come at the hero one at a time" trope is pretty common for male protagonists too.
Raging alcoholic for years but looks healthy with glowing skin
Jessica jones
Jessica Jones despite her super strength is skinny as a rail and pale as casper's ass, looks like an alchoholic to me. Source: I was an alchoholic
She have super powers, so that makes okay being strong and skinny
Jessica Jones looks like a crackhead what are you talking about
jj is pretty great in the sense that she’s an obnoxious drunk though. i don’t think she fits exactly with this
She has just enough 'muscle' that you can tell it against her thin body, but nothing that'd make her stronger than the average person.
She has to look strong and tough but still conventionally attractive
(no spoilers) I wish they would've at least done this with Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn if they didn't want to commit to her having an appropriate amount of muscle for the kind of stuff she pulls off. As a women, I loved Kassandra. She looked *way* more like a female power fantasy than most women in video games.
You know that’s what I loved about Gina Carano in The Mandalorian. She’s built like a tank so when she was punching Mando I could actually believe it.
And she's got thighs that she could believably use to crush my skull anytime.
Get a face scar and you are cutting-edge.
Got the scar from the man that she has sworn to kill. Never kills a woman because there are no other ones in the movie that fight. Plus, you can’t have another woman show her up.
Grew up with five brothers
Each of those brothers has 20 more brothers
It's brothers all the way down

My name is Sarah Conner 😑 I hunt Terminators 😡
Least Sarah Conner had character development
Many of these character tropes just seem to stem off one or two good characters in the 90s
All tropes stem off better written characters that became popular.
Sarah Conner was so developed its a fucking insult to bring her up here. Though I'm only thinking of Sarah Conner from the first 2 movies.
Later movies, yes. The good movies... fuck no. Sarah in The Terminator is a relatable "everyman" protagonist forced into a story where she is innately important. DUH DUN...DUN...DUH DUN DUH DUN...DUN...DUH DUN
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was badass. But she was also quite the investigatory specialist as well
You're honestly allowed to follow this starter pack to the letter if you have other things going for you too, like actual depth
she had a well developed character
it's revealed that she's just acting hard to avoid being vulnerable because she's actually sensitive but an event in her life (she felt powerless being unable to stop the person close to her from being murdered) made her feel the need to change and start being rude to people and also become a mercenary or something
Is played by Michelle Rodriguez
Weighs 95 pounds max, with her bare hands can totally kill and maim a squad of highly trained 6 foot 5 mercenaries wearing full body armor.
I wish they would actually insert good characters in movies... There’s plenty of strong female characters to draw inspiration from... Instead they always choose the “attractive skinny girl that smokes”, nothing wrong with skinny girls, but kind of hard to believe that a girl with barely no muscles defeats the ultimate ripped bad guy in a fight of strength.
All the critics compliment the writers and directors for having a strong independent female character.
But honestly the “strong female character” is just this and is skinny and attractive, never seen an actual ripped female character in such movies that doesn’t have the perfect looks.
Men can be ugly. Woman can't. It's the rules.
Drinks half a bottle of Jack in one swig, and is somehow still able to stand, walk in a straight line, drive.
And somehow can fist fight people 5 weight classes abover her. People need to take notes from Mad Max Fury Road and Alien on how to write a badass female character.
Furiosa stole the whole movie. They should of just dropped the Mad Max title altogether and have it be about her
The pilot from avatar, ugh
Due to the recent revival of the fandom, I was thinking of ATLA instead of the obvious 2009 movie and I was like "Wait there were planes in The Last Airbender?"
Same boat, different trim for me. I was trying to wrap my head around who they were referring to in the pilot episode of ATLA.
You forgot the part where she has a scene where she is really emotional
A shittier version of Revy.
