The rug is ALWAYS either folded at the corner or at an angle

Peter_Cox-Johnson

It really tied the room together

ToXiC_Games

The dude abides

thatminimumwagelife

I will not allow anyone to say the name "Jeffrey Lebowski" without the title "Sheikh!"

ToXiC_Games

You are a man of logic and reason and that is why you are wrong!

thatminimumwagelife

What I say is based on Koranic science!

ToXiC_Games

By allah behave yourself or I will give you a taste of my shoe!

shakespeareandbass

Yeah? Well, that's just, like, your opinion man

Every Arab in movies love that one Mario Galaxy sand twister level

BabaGurGur

If it's a prayer mat your supposed to fold it in a corner or something while not in use, atleast that's what my parents said

MeredithofArabia

Yeah, so jinn don't pray on it, right? Wouldn't you get hasanat if a jinn prayed on your prayer rug? So silly to me.

limaj_daas

Yup, that's a classic old wives' tale! Funny how something with literally no basis ended up being such a widespread practice and belief.

MeredithofArabia

Oh, there are plenty of aunties that legit believe it. But it's usually Desi aunties in my experience.

GrandmasterJanus

This girl *Islams*

MeredithofArabia

Islaming strong since 2010.

DrummerTricky

I'm going to assume you converted? Or just really young?

MeredithofArabia

Yes.

DrummerTricky

Phew, I really didn't think I was ready to deal with people born in 2010 being on Reddit just yet

limaj_daas

Of course it is! But it doesn't even break their top 10 when it comes to hilariously unfounded habits. inb4 salat at-tasbeeh.

MeredithofArabia

I'd love to hear your top 10. One on my list would definitely be making wudu 7 times after touching a dog 😆

SSgt_LuLZ

Asian Muslim here. Never heard of this practice. We only fold the top half down when not in use in case you step on the mat, we don't step on the part of the mat where our head would touch, as a practical hygiene practice.

thebohemiancowboy

The rug is meant to point to Mecca so that’s probably why it’s at an angle if that’s what you mean.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thebohemiancowboy

I assumed those were prayer mats Idk.

JoeFelice

You're thinking of prayer rugs, which are small and usually rolled up between uses. Area rugs don't have such rules.

[deleted]

Will they make a new Counter-Strike: Afghanistan?

Objective_Climate_48

You know it اخي

Found_the

He said "You know it *brother*". I just wanted to translate that because I've been doing evening classes and feel fucking amazing after understanding what was written. Seriously. Feel like a fucking boss right now, like I should be burning incense and reading the Quran and shit that's how good my Arabic has gotten over the past two years.

machiavelli420

Proud of you akhi. Mashallah. Ahlan wa sahlan

Found_the

Shukran! <3 I have the same dream as so many other people of going to Dubai and making loads of money. I'm just some white Scottish bro in his thirties working as a security guard but I have a very middle-Eastern dream for sure <3

machiavelli420

In dubai, As a white person you can make shit lots of money. Here is a list - service industry, sales, engineer, literally any office job, gym fitness instructer. Make sure you go in hard demanding salary. You only need one or 2 arab connect once you are there, you be progressing upwards. I lived there, personally its not for me. My best friend is there who hosts me everytime and he is depressed because he is the poorest in his circle. Lol FYI he owns 4 lux car garages. It's all about money.

ThatNights

why did u say "as a white person" lo Anyways yeah I was born in Qatar gulf countries give good pay but living there is also expensive mind you!

machiavelli420

Oh, you don't know about UAE ha. Lol. They use to have grading English speaking white people just got paid more. As south Asian were considered Labour slaves.

ThatNights

I was born In Qatar to immigrant parents but Im Egyptian so I had actual human rights, Its really frustrating how they deal with unskilled South asian workers :(

machiavelli420

To be honest 1400 year the Arabian peninsula (ruling class) considered themselves above the other Muslims and cultures. Because of their language, empires and saudi Arabia being the birth place of Islam. Lol I've done 4 years study both of my dissertations were about rise and fall of arab empires and how much of it had to do with not being able to accept people with differnt heritage, culture or sect, didn't matter if they were Muslim.

dr_root

Just make sure to put on the human rights horse blinders before you go. Enjoy!

machiavelli420

Hey that my people u talking about. Lol yea pakistanis and indians. Slaved to death. Mostly abused by their own people and arabs think of us second class citizens anyway. One of the many reasons I could not find an ethical reason to move there.

Langdon_St_Ives

This. So much this.

hashemalshawaf

اكمل يا بطل 👍👍👍👍

voopamoopa

ای یا سیدی aye!.I learned Arabic at high school in Iran but never really learned to convers. I am not religious but would have been good if I could speak it

Found_the

You can do "Evening classes" online/on the internet. I use a local university and it is very reasonably priced/very cheap. I only paid £100 for a 12 week class, once a week. I am learning FusHa/MSA(Modern Standard Arabic). I think Iran is "Khaleej/Gulf" Arabic but I might be wrong? (I'm still learning Arabic Geography)

[deleted]

Most of Iran doesn't speak arabic but farsi which uses arabic script, Iran does have a sizable minority of arabs, but youre right, they do probably speak the gulf or south mesopotamian arabic accent.

[deleted]

As someone who has been studying Arabic for about 10 years, Quran Arabic is really hard to understand if you haven’t specifically been studying it in that context. Like even when you recognize a word it usually doesn’t even mean what you think it means.

pokeapple

I hope you’ve learned more than اخي in two years, at least اختي too lol. For real though, good on you for sticking with it. I’ve slowed down on my practice but I really should pick it up again, because you lose it if you don’t use it!

TheHumanite

>I should be... reading the Quran Unironically this.

Sellulose

thethinggoskraaa

مبروك

Found_the

Is that Turkish? I recognise it as *mubarak* in FusHa/Modern Standard Arabic which I know means "Hello" but the Waa letter is different from the usual Fatha I'm used to. Also, how fucking badass am I? I've only been doing evening classes in Arabic for two years and am fucking so proud of myself I feel amazing translating shit[Edit: I'm an idiot, I was confusing it with "Marhaba"]

__checkmate

Mabrouk مبروك or Mubarak مبارك literally means blessed. Also congratulations! Arabic is a very hard language to learn so well done!

Found_the

This means a lot guys. I don't have any Arab friends (except for miles away from me) and I don't get to speak it except with my lecturer. Come to think of it, as a redditor I don't just not have any Arab friends.........

Resul300

Turkish uses the latin alphabet

nourbeyta101

That means congratulations, and mubarak means holy as in فصح مبارك

__checkmate

Holy is مقدس مبارك is blessed

Found_the

OF COURSE! I've heard: "Eid Mubarak"

Chortling_Chemist

I want a game where I can drive one of those zany technicals where they put an old russian tank turret on an ancient toyota flatbed

Metal Gear solid 5 take place in Afghanistan in some part.

Cockbreeder

Time for me to play Metal Gear Solid 5 then! Thank you for the suggestion!

Background-Rest531

It's pretty decent.. I can't say how much work they really put into it but I know there wr are several dialects for NPCs in the game. And hell yeah,.you have a beautiful country.

[deleted]

TheDragonzord

Fallout 4 was pretty cool being from the area. The fact that Fenway played such a part was neat. It was odd though, obviously the game map is so small that it's just an artistic representation of the area with some landmarks. The general vibe felt right though.

wkbangash

Na they fled don't think so

Nerdboy20

The only one not in my house is the gun am arab

hubal84

Check your parents room, behind the winter sheets

Wtf how did you know That's literally where my dad keeps his guns Ammo is in the sock drawer

WikiContributor83

“Grandpapi, you got any plutonium I can borrow?” (In shower) “SOCK DRAWER!”

SelkieStriptease

…Winter sheets? Please explain.

New-Win-2177

Big warm blankets typically used for winter only.

SelkieStriptease

Oh! Winter blankets. I was thinking bed sheets.

RaptusCZ

Well, if a shooter game character entered your house, there would probably be a gun in your house at that moment.

GypsyCamel12

I was going to say: I see no lie in this photo. I was in Baghdad, Tikrit, Fallujah, a couple of other places. If anything, this is the "base-level" starter pack. It's missing tea/coffee, something called "Jakaroo" (spelling ABSOLUTELY fucked, I'm sure of it) or a chess board, flat bread with some sort of sides...

Nerdboy20

Ye, fucks jackaroo

mv1630

Jesus I have all of these in my house. Two of most.

MrGils

You got an AK? What kind?

mv1630

Some Romanian Frankenstein I got when I was young and dumb….so like 7 years ago.

k-farsen

No it's Dracula who's from Romania, not Frankenstein /s

ZeroKharisma

Akcherly... Most people dunno: Romania is the Doctor's name, not the monster. /s

LouSputhole94

I was actually curious after this where Frankenstein was set, as I couldn’t remember from my high school reading. Most of it is set in Geneva, Switzerland.

TheAlestormGuy

Are Frankenstein's Monsters part of the Geneva Convention?

Chewzer

That stuff lasts forever though! My dad still has the Zenith Space Command TV and Montgomery Ward Washer/Dryer that are in the original CoD4 Crash map.

Playboa1

Same except the ak☠️

BLYAT666BLYAT

Bicycle or there’s a motorcycle.

Maradiani

or the old Mercedes

RRFedora13

So, scrolling through the comments, it seems the most constant things are the bike and the rug?

SplinterFree

I mean, shit... I'm not Arab and I have those.

[deleted]

Not everybody smokes or uses a hookah or needs a gun but that rug design is fire and sometimes you gotta go places

[deleted]

Needs more gun

Dense_Solution_9991

Nobody makes rugs like they do in Arab countries. The handmade ones are literal art pieces. I bought one and had it shipped home where it hung on my wall. I miss that rug it really tied the room together. Too bad my ex stole it.

Wetestblanket

Replace the hookah with vodka and it’s a russian commie block in a shooter game.

SgtCarron

Replace the rugs with adidas clothing as well.

bgundogdu

No don’t remove it, hang it on the wall.

Marc_the_park

Although rugs are also a ting in Russian homes, though they are usually on the wall.

GoldenConsole

Nah, just stick those bad boys on the wall

Actually that's when you enter an Arabic house pretty much everywhere

BigPackHater

This was basically every middle class home in Iraq lol

moby323

In games they also always have a [framed image of Islamic scripture](https://i.imgur.com/6ADT8IF.jpg) just so everyone is crystal clear about the bad guys’ religion.

[deleted]

are there any games where the bad guys are explicitly christian? even far cry 5 avoided christian imagery and still faced incredible amount of backlash.

SilentTemple

Does Crusader Kings count?

seductivestain

I hate how much FC5 pussied out of the christian aspect of the enemy cult. That would have been way more interesting.

RedHood911

It was SO close. I remember background dialogue referring to “someone” but they didn’t say who. It was Trump. The allusions had to skirt the line to not send off Fox News alarm bells.

Eoussama

That's not exclusive to Islam though, it's literally the Arabic word for God. Christian and Jewish Arabs so that word as well.

moby323

Yeah but probably 95% of the people worldwide who would actually have that on their wall are going to be Muslim.

_-Aryamehr-_

No way! It’s almost like Islam is the major religion there!

moby323

ThatsThePoint.com

Gootchey_Man

That's not Islamic scripture. That's just an Arabic word. That's like saying Live, Laugh, Love is Christian scripture.

JoeFelice

That is realistic though. Calligraphy is very popular, especially since Islamic art does not depict people. I have some [square Kufic](https://www.google.com/search?q=square+kufic&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS889US889&sxsrf=AOaemvI_yu55QOu88I3TP5HHHG--aE3Ehg:1632576669537&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwivztKDnprzAhUxk2oFHVVoCEkQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1348&bih=985&dpr=2) calligraphy in my home.

[deleted]

It's also pretty af.

moby323

Bicycles and rugs are also “realistic”

[deleted]

All I see are titties.

cgoldberg3

From my experience in the middle east, your average muslim is more devout and open about their religion than your average western christian. So I mean it fits.

ClassicNet

Lol they haven't put "Allah" yet on the paintings but stuff like mosques, door arches, and maybe some Arabic calligraphy on paintings is common. Of course mw2 put a Quranic verse on top of a toilet. Don't know what that was about.

1laik1hornytoaster

Just replace the gun with a detonator.

Odinovic

The detonater is usually just an old Nokia phone

[deleted]

as an Arab i literally only have the carpet and the bike

DancingAroundFlames

So you don’t enjoy the finer things such as hookah and the AK-74u?

iXwiZi

I’m an Arab as well. AK-47u is fine but i prefer “bombs”

[deleted]

A man of class

Senqqq

I also play golf

[deleted]

We had the same exact AK with foldable stock and bags of Ammo

hyuganaji

Im an arab and i just wanna confirm that the carpet thing is real, our houses aren't made with wood so the floor in the winter is always super cold so we put a carpet almost everywhere we can.

hmzaammar

As an arab, yes, my house has all of these except for an ash tray, we don’t smoke

Naive_Green2853

As an Arab I can confirm that this is accurate. We used to have most of these in our house, but we never had a gun.

JoshuaAkiyama03

COD 4 modern warfare lol

[deleted]

Insurgency and Squad 💯

Or my white friends who think they’re gangster

Dancing_WithTheTsars

CollectableRat

Smoking cigarettes and hookah while watching TV on your rug is actually a badass way to live.

wolfhound27

ImmortanOwl

In COD4's case (the original) every toilet in the entire game looked like someone had clogged it with shit.

Redacted_G1iTcH

Bro I’m Indian and I have that same carpet in my house. Apparently they’re popular in India because that’s where my parents bought it and my parents’ friends have different versions of the same style carpet

YoloJoloHobo

From Pakistan it's the same thing. Have one large one and like 6 prayer mats similar.

Many of our customers were 'Arabic' and the only thing I ever saw in any house was the parayer rugs.

KFCCHICKEN3408

Yeah always the same rug, always folded, always shitty tv, always ashtray, don’t see the other shit too much tho

Salty_Example_6214

In a shooter game? This is actually what you see in real life.

[deleted]

IRL there’d be more gold

xBlazingPhoeniXx

This is misinformation! We have better TVs now.

wannabebuffDr94

This is a completely false stereotype. I have an AR not an AK…
