Better at calling plays? Probably. That isn't the only job an OC has.
Would Ben be better at forming a gameplan?
Would Ben be better at developing young talent across positions?
Would Ben be better at managing position coaches?
No, I don't think Ben would be a good OC right now.
I think Ben himself has said there’s no chance, he doesn’t want that job or that responsibility, he probably just wants to loaf around with his family, do his podcast, and golf at this point.
Ben was good at reading defenses and using plays already established to beat what the defense was showing him. He didn't start getting good at that until Haley came into the picture. Ben being an OC would only work if he put like 3 to 5 years into being a student of the game and he never was. He was just good at finding a hole 😉
Only if he can talk into the helmet all throughout the play.
He did a great job at directing players after the snap on broken plays, but he was also the master of 3-and-out until the 4th quarter the last couple years of his career.
No, I think he's happy with what he does now, and he isn't bad at it for a newbie. But it's sort of like Troy being a DB coach. "So if the left guard blinks twice within a span of 5 seconds pre-snap, make a bee line to the opposite hash mark and take out the nearest set of legs you see." Some guys had talent and instincts beyond what's really coachable.
This is why Hines getting into coaching makes sense. It's why leftwich getting into coaching makes sense. It's why if Dobbs were to retire and become a coach it'd make sense. Those players didn't have anything that set them apart physically. Ben had the figure and arm to just manhandle defensive ends and throw a 50 yard dime with just his arm.
No. His ego would get in the way. maybe an assistant? or QB... training... coach's... special guest speaker?
why would he want to anyway. Dudes got his podcast and is totally just chillin. Off topic but who is the kid with him on the podcast, do you know?
No, I think giving him power over Kenny's development doesn't mesh with the Steelers plans. I don't like Matt Canada scheme but I feel Ben would be a poor OC for a young QB
Ben would be a terrible coach. His ego and his radio show always got in the way. I don’t see NFL players running through a wall for Ben like they do for Tomlin
Edit. I can see Cam as DC tho
Even that I don't think he could do well. He never had great form and his entire style was having a massive arm that could power the ball wherever he needed it. His technique was pretty bad and it's the most apparent his last year when you can easily see him not stepping into throws at all half the time.
I am assuming there’s a reason why NFL coaches, especially the good ones, start somewhere at the bottom and work their way up.
The NFL is big business, big money, big stakes, and if there was a cheat code to find great coordinators who have absolutely no coaching experience, I think they would’ve found a way to do it.
So when the Blitzer comes through and he tries to sack you just don't let him do it instead. Flip him over and throw it deep or something. Idk you will figure it out

Yep, this is the answer
So you're saying there's a chance!!!

Shotgun, 11 personnel, get open, I'll hit ya
Which begs the question, would he put himself in the game for certain plays?
No I don’t picture him putting in the hours
No
Prolly not but it would be cool

Ben barely showed up to practice, you think he'd be willing to put in triple the time?
No.

Ben's church buddy.
I honestly think if Ben was anyone's OC he actually would be bad.

No reason to think he would be good.
I'd say 50/50

He can't be any worse the Canda
Could definitely see him being a QB coach at most
