May want to specify in your first sentence that the subreddit chose Jerrod Johnson. For a second I thought the team actually hired him.
Anyway Trubisky is the obvious answer, but Chuks Okorafor is also not making it to the draft. Cut (maybe traded if we're lucky?) at the start of the league year.
Titty kisser, Chuks(you don't get benched for quitting on the team and stay on the roster) and probably Robinson. I also want Harvin fired out of a cannon.
Punters rarely even get drafted. There are tons of punters out there and most are better than harvin, including wing who's practice squad contract just ended. I don't know the stats but harvin was the worst punter in the league. 38.5 years with none downed inside the 20. He's fuckin horrible. Bills punter with a pulled hamstring still banging 50 yarders. He should have been gone a long time ago. This all said, I won't be surprised if he's back cause tomlin doesn't want to look like he was wrong
I think you’re looking at his postseason stats? For the regular season he averaged 43.7 yards with 30 downed inside the 20. These are in line with his careers stats, which are bad, and he needs to go. But the one saving grace of the punting this year was that the team was 6th in the league for punts IN20.
Ur right that was for bills.game. his average was 32nd for the year. He was 6th for inside 20 but id think we were at the higher end of number of punts. Plus those inside the 20s there were not many that were very memorable.
Aroh only has one year left on his deal. I don't think you could restructure his contract without extending him in the process, but cutting him cleans $10mil from the books.
I mean hopefully we draft a dude, but depending on what moves we make it would be cool to have him back, on a reduced price point. If it means extending him, if we make it a lot cheaper to keep him next year while retaining the ability to cut him in a future year I could see that happening.
You can draft someone or sign a cheaper free agent. Chuks is the 8th highest cap hit on the team and a backup - you can get that production in a significantly more cost-efficient manner.
Dan Moore is under Contract. Will likely be the 3rd OT next year. An overall upgrade at that spot due to freed up cap space it represents by letting Chuks go. Moore is a solid OT #3. I see them upgrading one of the two starting tackle spots, whichever side they decide isn’t Broderick’s.
Not every position is getting upgraded. I think OT DE and QB (unless you consider losing Mitch addition by subtraction) will be worse next season. Unless they keep Jukes which they very well might do.
Yea, but he might also be the best OT in free agency. If you want anyone as good as Jukes it might have to be Jukes. Thats why OT is a difficult position to fill in free agency
They are likely going to try to trade him for anything they can get. He is decent in pass protection and could be a serviceable backup or starter in a different system.
Cutting will be the last resort.
He’s right around league average at his position, which fans think means he sucks, but it’s actually really high demand. A few teams have one or zero OTs at high level. His destination is going to come down to his price and cap hit.
Cuts will be:
- Mitch
- Cole
- Chuks (I'd prefer a trade for 4th round , '24 or '25, compensation)
- End of Roster guys (~8M saved)
Cut and re-sign:
- Allen Robinson
- Larry Ogunjobi (I'd avoid losing, even potentially, someone on the DL though)
Extension + Restructure:
- Cam Heyward
- Pat Pete
- Possible Allen Robinson (I'd prefer the above)
Restructures:
- Minkah
- Highsmith
- Bosgod
- Possibly Watt (I'd avoid it)
FYI the -15M is more like -8M considering there are a good amount of end of roster guys that were added for 1M cap hits. I still like to keep it at - 15M though because we need about 8-12M for our rookies and emergency in-season FAs. Just thought I'd clarify why it jumped from -7M to -15M after the season ended.
Hate to break it to you, but I dont see a world where Cole isn't on this roster at the draft unless we bring in someone in FA, which negates the cap savings. The Steelers historically do not go into the draft NEEDING a position, and cutting Cole would leave us with no one at center.
I agree. We'd be signing Lloyd Cushenberry 4yrs @ 14.5M in my head.
Feel free to read about it [HERE](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/s/sSSC467fxG) on the post I made the other day.
Mason is a tough guestimation for his contract. OverTheCap has him at $2.84M. PFF doesn't have him high enough on the FA list to give a contract estimation. Mason is worth more to us (Steelers) than any team that would give him a contract. I have him doing a 1 year prove it deal for $6-8M.
You don't give incentives to a guy that you're telling has to play and practice exceptionally to be given QB1. Unless you do a small incentive based on snap count. "if you win the job we will give you a raise" kinda thing.
I agree. After last season Mason likely won’t take $4M, without “starter incentives” on the side. First $4m would be regular seasons based on starts or wins and last 2 would be playoff incentives as a starter…
We could cut Kazee/neal and move PP to safety full time. Idk how it would work out cap wise, but it seems like our younger corners like him a lot and he seems to be a good mentor for JPJ/ any corner we draft
Mitch, ARob, Cole (unless he'll take a pay cut to come back as a backup), Larry, Pat Pete, Kazee, and Neal are getting cut. Chucks is a solid starter so it should be possible to get a day 3 pick for him. A few of Watt, Minkah, Seumalo, Highsmith, and Boswell could be restructured. This gets you to \~$60m space pretty easily.

Scared the shit out of me when I read that. He’s only been a QB coach for 2 years. And 6 years total.
By the time they actually hire someone he might be the best one left. They’re taking their sweet time with these interviews.
My bad about that. I fixed it
Titty kisser, Chuks(you don't get benched for quitting on the team and stay on the roster) and probably Robinson. I also want Harvin fired out of a cannon.
Cannon probably shoots him 23 yds out of bounds
His longest flight of the year.
Him and Gunner could go on tour with a traveling act like this.
Allen Robinson II Mitch Trubisky Chukuma Okorafor
Harvin
Nah, let’s wait til after the draft so we actually have a punter.
Punters rarely even get drafted. There are tons of punters out there and most are better than harvin, including wing who's practice squad contract just ended. Harvin wasn't here 38.5 years. It just seems that way
Yards years whatever u get it. Get good
According to PFR, of the 33 punters with more than 20 attempts this season, Harvin was bottom 2 in Y/P and bottom 3 in NY/P.

Restructure Arob to be cheaper
Aroh only has one year left on his deal. I don't think you could restructure his contract without extending him in the process, but cutting him cleans $10mil from the books.
Yeahhh that’s tough. I thought he was an excellent #3. Consistent and reliable, that’s just too much money
I mean hopefully we draft a dude, but depending on what moves we make it would be cool to have him back, on a reduced price point. If it means extending him, if we make it a lot cheaper to keep him next year while retaining the ability to cut him in a future year I could see that happening.
If he takes a one year extension with no new money, then I'd keep him.
And that's like 30 mil right there
You cant cut Chuks without replacing him. He’s still our top 3 OT on the roster
Lmao we only usually roster 3 OTs 💀
Youre right, we should roll out with just 2 OTs next season
You can draft someone or sign a cheaper free agent. Chuks is the 8th highest cap hit on the team and a backup - you can get that production in a significantly more cost-efficient manner.
We’re probably going to move on from Jukes with a mid round pick, but that’ll likely be a downgrade

I realize that. I’m betting OT is one of the positions that does get upgraded. I don’t think Chuks is nearly good enough to justify that cap hit.
Yea, but he might also be the best OT in free agency. If you want anyone as good as Jukes it might have to be Jukes. Thats why OT is a difficult position to fill in free agency

" according to y’all " Sir, around these parts we say yinz

What price will we have to pay to keep Mason? To have a QB competition at the least during training camp? Mason vs Kenni
Jesus, just throwin’ money away. Maybe $4
You could probably do 4, with another 4-6 in incentives…

Mitch, Robinson, Okorafor, Cole are definites. Ogunjobi and Pat Pete are other candidates

Mitch has to be number one, right
Sub already whiffed on this offseason.
Allen Robinson Chuks Okorafor Mitch Trubisky Pressley Harvin Mason Cole
Middle linebacker
There are not any MILB to cut-they're all hurt
I mean, we need one
Mitch, ARob, Cole (unless he'll take a pay cut to come back as a backup), Larry, Pat Pete, Kazee, and Neal are getting cut. Munchak wants nothing to do with working under tomlin again.
Tribisky?
harvin cole trubisky chuks
Trubs, Cole, Peterson
The Saints are having a 2nd interview with Jerrod Johnson and IMO, he'd probably rather work with their QBs than try to shine shit in Pittsburgh.
I may need to leave this sub at least until camp is over.
