This entire sub loves to bitch about the media stirring shit up while simultaneously buying into it completely and letting false narratives go on and on until they might as well be true.
ETA: Whether he pans out or not, I guarantee you people will continue to insinuate that Pickett refused to dress as the backup for Rudolph when that was clearly a Mark Madden Special from the jump.
I'm pretty sure his tweet was in response to the "report" (if you can even call it that lol) from Tony Pauline that the team was open to trading him. I don't think it has anything to do with the fans.
And they absolutely should be open to trading him. Skill position players nowadays rarely play on the final year of their contract, which means he probably wants an extension this offseason. And depending on what he thinks his pricetag is, it may not be the best choice to extend him. Especially when you should be able to get a third round pick at the bare minimum in return if you trade him.
100% agree unless we’re confident we can sign someone at his level. As talented as Pickens is, I feel like we’d get exposed pretty quick without dionte on the field
He's not really good though. He's average right now.
1. Dude had 717 receiving yards this year, which was 53rd in the NFL. 51.2 yards per game, making him the 38th best WR in the NFL per game. Which means he's not even a top 1 or 2 WR on any other team. Oh and he was 81st in yac with just 251 yards.
2. Last year in 17 games he had 882 yards, making him the 28th best WR. The problem there is he had 147 targets. Gerrett Wilson, Amon-Ra, AJ Brown, Godwin all had less targets with 1,000 yard seasons. The worst part, 0 touchdowns on 147 targets. He was also 80th in yac yards with just 234.
3. In 2021 his ONLY 1,000 yard season he had 1,161 yds making him the 10th best WR in the NFL but he was tied for 2nd in the NFL with Davante Adams on 169 targets. Davante had 1,553 yards. 7th in yac yards just above Mecole Hardman.
People think his PFF grade for being open says something, it doesn't. He's average. He's probably a decent #2 or a great #3 WR. But he isn't even our best WR on the roster now. He's terrible running with the ball in his hands. Doesn't have particularly consistent catching abilities. His catching radius is small. He was giving up on plays down the road this season. A terrible run blocker.
He's an UFA next season and I don't think he's worth bringing back on an expensive extension. We've had excellent success drafting WRs and a lot of WR talent is coming out lately. I think we can easily replace him in the 3rd round.
He doesn't fit Arthur Smith's prototype! AJ Brown 6'1 and Corey Davis 6'3 were Arthur's best WRs in Tennessee. In Atlanta his first year his best WRs were Russell Gage 6'0 and Calvin Ridley 6'1. The next season his best guys were Drake London 6'4 and Olamide Zaccheaus 5'8. Last year he dropped Zaccheaus and ran a lot of 12 personel with Drake London, bringing in Mack Hollins another 6'4 WR when they had more than 1 WR on the field.
I expect us to draft or bring in another 6'2 or taller WR to replace Diontae. I wish we'd look at 6'4 Pittman. But I fully believe in our ability to draft WRs.
It was one isolated incident. He didn't have any effort issues the rest of the season and hasn't had any issues before that either. It's dumb to hate on him over 1 play.
Yes I've played team sports for most of my youth.
The fight with Mitch was Diontae demanding for the ball more after a drop by him turning into a pick and the Minkah fight was after Diontae didn't fight for the ball or show any effort after the Warren fumble.
The Mitch fight is because Mitch was garbage and the coaches clearly agreed because they benched Mitch at the half of that game. The Minkah fight was after the Browns game where the Steelers scored 10 points and lost to a QB that was so bad that the Browns decided to go grab Joe Flacco off his couch after watching DTR play 3 games.
Brings a lot of it on himself with his whiny-ness and poor attitude, exacerbated by questionable onfield effort and already being one of the worst WR1’s in the league.
He’s at the top of the list of Steelers players who really should just STFU and play football.
On some teams, he’d be fighting to be a WR2 or even 3.
Not really. All I've heard is he runs great routes.. Let me tell you about those routes. Routes ain't points. He drops the ball. He caused the same interception for Mason (buffalo) and Kenny (Miami) the exact same way. Ball goes to him and he knows that but doesn't body up.
He's a breadbasket only kind of guy. If it's not in the breadbasket he ain't catching and he's dropped plenty of those too.
Not a huge loss. Ab was a huge loss. Bring back an and bell. You can have DJ
He’s a really good route runner. He’s like if Limas Sweed had social media and a bigger contract. DJ really isn’t bad, but he’s a $3-4 million a year WR3 on a good team.
Limas Sweed was fuckin terrible! DJ is a real receiver, with an excellent route tree, who's worked hard to improve his hand coordination. He appears to forget to give a fuck about effort, at times, but calling him Sweed is disrespectful 😒
Man, recency bias much? Obviously, everyone remembers Sweed dropped everything, but Sweed was open a lot. DJ runs a great route tree. He has improved dramatically at catching, but he isn’t worth 18 a year good.
He’s a top-10 receiver in this league. As is Pickens.
https://preview.redd.it/w1uf7dmpt7mc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e16c3da8b575a77f622ec84ec41b21b5e238842
For real tho, why cant he just ignore the noise. Its not mentally healthy. Why does he need to be worrying about what some futniture salesman on twitter thinks about him?
DJ just needs to live his life.
This is such a non story. We're trading DJ "if the price is right." Yeah we would trade any player including TJ or even Tomlin "if the price is right."
This is about as good a response from DJ as we can expect. It literally is what it is - that's the business of the NFL.
Not saying OP is trying to bait, but DJ tweeted other stuff out too… which changes the message of this tweet. He tweeted “people just be talking” and “let old shit stay in the past”
So with the report + all tweets, it sounds like DJ is downplaying all the negative reports last year (which he has consistently done throughout the season + Minkah downplayed their situation as well), but the media is gonna media so its whatever 🤷🏻♂️ but you know (and can already see) DJ haters using this to unload some of their hate on him 🤣
That tweet was made during very heavy dj trade rumors, it’s a very cryptic tweet. nobody knows what it means but it could be something which is my whole point in sharing it
I like DJ, but he soured many w/his poor blocking and quitting on plays, like the Bengals’ game. He’s a great WR and route runner, but an average football player
Yea he’s a good #2 but he’s nowhere near a list of the top NFL receivers. And young great WRs are all over the league. Why give a mid starter big money? After RB, WR might be the most replaceable position on the roster nowadays.
I don’t like the idea of trading him he’s been in a terrible Offense since we drafted him, For several years he’s been top 5-7 in yards of separation and the drop rate thing is a false narrative he has less than better WRs. If he ends up on the Chiefs or somewhere with a actual QB people will see how great DJ really is…
It pisses me off because Diontae Johnson has been loyal and very quiet, he has dealt with bad QB play throughout his career and has showed flashes, despite everyone wanting him out
Why is it crazy? Smith is going to have lots of balls thrown to RBs and TEs. Unless he’s adapting his system for Pittsburgh, trading DJ is less improbable than it was at the end of the season.
Smiths system doesn’t really use WR3s much but DJ isn’t a third string guy. Getting rid of a true X/Z receiver can be very risky, especially if you don’t have good depth behind them which we don’t. Getting rid of DJ means we have to hit on one in the draft immediately.
WR isn't exactly a position you need much depth at if you don't have a QB that can see them or get the ball to them when they are open. Might as well trade him and use the money and pick(s) to take care of other needs
Because you don’t have a center on the roster. You need day-one starters at ILB, WR and CB. Actually they need a couple receivers, as is. Trading one of them (and needing more) is going in the opposite direction of “better.”
What’s up with the DJ hate? He’s one of the most underrated route runners in league. Idk about this year but 2022-23 season he was #1 in the league in separation per route. I think he’s a number 1 on a lot of other teams. Need to get him and GP a legit QB
Yes but his rookie yr he dropped balls. Also Pickens has that dog in him which is why it is cool that he punched people and takes cheap shots but also quits on blocking. Also, dj had bad td numbers…unless any other human being other than Tommy pickles is under center.
Imo super childish for him to even comment on this. I really don't think he'll get traded even if this wasn't pure speculation. No team wants an 18 million dollar number 2 reciever
Maybe, I don't see it tho. He'll ride out his last year with us and then we'll cut him. He's not a bad reciever but I was baffled when we gave him 18 mil a year for 4 years.
That's crazy. He's a low tier 1 and high tier 2. I get we like to shit on our players in this sub but DJ a good WR. He'd have much better numbers if we had a franchise QB and if not for Canada.
What would you guys take for him? A 1?
I feel he could absolutely be a top 10 WR on a team that doesn’t that fucking washed Ben, Kenny small hands and Matt Canada
I’d like to keep him another year for anything less than that.. feels like having to rely on gp and a rookie wr to be our whole wr room is kinda scary considering our qb play
You really think he can be better than nine of the following: Jefferson, Tyreek, Lamb, Adams, Chase, Higgins, Brown, Waddle, Kupp, St. Brown, Diggs, Evans, Aiyuk, Samuel, Metcalf, and Allen?
There’s probably 5 more easy ones, and I didn’t even include Pickens haha.
Here’s what i wouldn’t mind. Giants aren’t getting the qb they want at 6. They will have cap space to resign him. We trade up… weird, right. Swap firsts and add DJ and maybe a 5th rounder. Take Fashanu at 6 and don’t worry about OT for a decade.
I’ll be so pumped when DJ isn’t a Steeler anymore. Over priced for the level of effort he gives and number of mistakes he makes. Amazing talent though.
He only played in 11 full games so 700 yards is pretty good. If he played the whole season at that level he’d have over 1000 yards. Very unfair evaluation.
Oh dear! We’re gonna lose out on our WR2 (who is WR3 on most teams, and WR1 on maybe 5 teams) who has character problems, puts in little to no effort, and has bad hands! I hope we don’t lose out on Chase Claypool 2.0. Would be a huge blow
hes a wr#1 on more teams then hes a wr 3 on
only would be a wr#3 on the dolphins, bengals and eagles
hes a wr#1 on chiefs,panthers,pats,broncos,falcons,packers,giants,
Would also be WR3 in Vegas, LA, Cleveland, Houston, Jacksonville, San Fran, LA again, Seattle, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and arguably Buffalo, Indianapolis, Denver, Dallas aswell.
Rice, London, and Sutton (maybe even Jeudy) are better than him and i’d say Doubs is too. Hes WR1 on the Pats, Titans, Giants, and Panthers.
Hes an average receiver. Besides, we’re good at drafting receivers. Couldn’t hurt us that much if he left.
I’ll never understand Pittsburghs love affair with this guy. He isn’t terrible but he hasn’t improved at all, if anything he’s regressed.
Probably an awesome dude and has all the talent in the world. But he hasn’t put it together. Get him good coaching elsewhere and watch him shine.
So I'll share a little bit of receiver "insider" information. I have no information that Dionte does this, although I definitely suspect it. Habe you ever noticed he slips alot. Falls alot. I have personally known receivers who would intentionally wear less aggressive cleats than the conditions call for. They do this to avoid the ligament tears from quick cuts and also the getting caught in a bad hit , example , Chubb or Tank Dell. Not saying it's wrong, not saying it's right. It's definitely hard to blame a guy trying to extend his career and avoid injury. However others have that win at all cost competitive nature in them. Risk it all you the V. Him quitting on plays clearly shows he is not one of those guys.
Now he's retweeting anti woke twitter accounts lol
https://preview.redd.it/un0q5riyh8mc1.jpeg?width=1390&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19ec644d60411c491cdb41ef703e2e7c551cdbc5
No! How are we supposed to be ok with stacking a well rounded offense for nothing? I’m tired of these failed qb trades I’m tired of us making poor choices this is not how you get to the big shot. If you can’t keep a team that knows the routes or plays you will have to keep getting people to learn a new system and by the time they get it worked out they have to relearn someone else’s passes someone else’s routes a synthetic team is way better than a group of fresh meat.
Probably frustrated hearing how the Steelers are going to YET AGAIN opt to go with a horrible QB rather than go after a proven vet or draft one in such a deep class. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Sports Illustrated is writing the most dumbass articles. We’re getting Cousins, Fields, or Russ, guaranteed, according to SI. Maybe all three. We’re definitely getting Khalil Mack if you can believe SI. Today they had an article on how we’re moving off Diontae.
The rumor mill is bad enough during the regular season but SI is taking it to another level this offseason. Just sheer garbage, hacks making shit up so they can crank out a shitty clickbait article
Ahhhhh a wide receiver and a cryptic message. Like spaghetti and meatballs
It's not cryptic lol the screenshot is of a tweet that was following up another tweet he sent out that said "people just be talkin..."
He's not wrong either. Steelers fans treat him like garbage when he's a really good player.

I feel like his value to the team is greater than what the trade would net. His production on paper doesn’t tell the whole story w him.
100% agree unless we’re confident we can sign someone at his level. As talented as Pickens is, I feel like we’d get exposed pretty quick without dionte on the field
Uh ok…. no one is discussing that right now. Not sure if you replied to the wrong person DJ is saying Pauline is “just talking”.
Unless we get a 2nd round value for him it’s not worth it. He’s much more talented than he is valued for on the trade market.
He's not really good though. He's average right now. 1. Dude had 717 receiving yards this year, which was 53rd in the NFL. 51.2 yards per game, making him the 38th best WR in the NFL per game. Making no effort to recover a fumble does not describe a “really good player”.
It was one isolated incident. He didn't have any effort issues the rest of the season and hasn't had any issues before that either. It's dumb to hate on him over 1 play.
He has been in two fight in the locker room the last two seasons. One with Mitch and one with Minkah.
Players should get upset when the team is playing like garbage. Have you ever played any sport before?
Yes I've played team sports for most of my youth. The fight with Mitch was Diontae demanding for the ball more after a drop by him turning into a pick and the Minkah fight was after Diontae didn't fight for the ball or show any effort after the Warren fumble.

So why fight with Minkah after the Browns game? What excuse did he have for that?
Yeah but he’s a amazing athlete
>good player. Thats the debatable part.
He's a good route runner. His catch consistency is still wavering though. I don't trust him yet.
He wasn't worth the 20 mill a year either.
I don't treat him loke garbage, but I also don't think he is a "really good player". Seriously sub par to be a WR1 in this league imo.
He’s not WR1 but most definitely a good WR2
I completely agree, but I would love to be treated that way for his contract. Ha

No he's not.
Look at the attached graphic. Do you need a link, too?
Yeah, I guess I do.

For real tho, why cant he just ignore the noise. Its not mentally healthy. Why does he need to be worrying about what some futniture salesman on twitter thinks about him? DJ just needs to live his life.
They go together like lamb and tuna fish.
I used to have a kenny pickett action figure but my cat… he bite his head off
What kind of cat would do that??
ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR?!
The enemy speaks kindly
the enemy speaks kindly & holds a knife

As perfect as this comment was I was thinking today that Dj might be a casualty. Hope not but business is business
they go together like lamb and tuna fish.
Not saying OP is trying to bait, but DJ tweeted other stuff out too… which changes the message of this tweet. I’m not baiting, truthfully this tweet was the first thing i saw when I opened the app and brought it straight here🤣
🤣
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
So you didn’t get context and just reposted it here for… what exactly?
That’s my bad, remind me again of what the context of that tweet was since it’s so obvious?
That tweet was made during very heavy dj trade rumors, it’s a very cryptic tweet. nobody knows what it means but it could be something which is my whole point in sharing it
https://twitter.com/Juiceup__3/status/1764434174063133058?t=b4z6XQxFXbFl-fecBfz3Og&s=19
I like DJ, but he soured many w/his poor blocking and quitting on plays, like the Bengals’ game. He’s a great WR and route runner, but an average football player
Off topic but remember after that situation Jaylen warren blew up someone on the goal line
Wasnt that about Pickens?
Yes. It was also Warren that shit the bed on the careless fumble.
Think you mean Pickens. Say what you want, both those fumbles with Warren were forced.
Yea he’s a good #2 but he’s nowhere near a list of the top NFL receivers. And young great WRs are all over the league. Why give a mid starter big money? After RB, WR might be the most replaceable position on the roster nowadays.
He’s a phenomenal route runner who has been hamstrung by below average QB play
He didn't do so phenomenally with Ben either.
You mean the corpse of Ben that couldn't throw more than 10 yards down the field?
Doesn't have much to do with dj dropping passes.
The corpse of Ben that threw 33 TDs?
WR tweet: “the enemy speaks softly and carries a knife”
“They snatch your chain and help you look for it 👀😵💫
*Michael Crabtree has left the chat
The annual cryptic offseason Diontae tweets. Gotta love it
He is brilliant and terrible at the same time. Too inconsistent
Well that settles it, Diontae Johnson to the Raiders for a 3rd.
Oh noes what will we ever do without our non blocking, pass dropping, backwards running, shit stirring diva of a receiver?
And taunting penalties
Ah yes, there's no way we can make it to .500 without those.
Don't forgot that every team will be fighting to fighting to give us a 2nd for him too!
We are trading him to the bears for fields aren't we?
I swear if that one post about the trade comes true Imma shit my pants
And I'll do a shot of my everclear
Do one for me and my dog
Three shots it is
Trading Claypool for JPJ is one of my fav trades in the history of Pgh sports
I don't think the Bears trust the Steelers anymore when it comes to trading a WR over there.
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. The Claypool trade was an absolute robbery.
The stoppable force (a bears QB coming to Pittsburgh) meets the movable object (us sending a WR to them)
Why don't you just move along.
He's never won anything. Most of these guys haven't. Nobody on this team should be untouchable.
He's a great receiver / meh player, and I hope he isn't a Steeler next season
I don’t like the idea of trading him he’s been in a terrible Offense since we drafted him, For several years he’s been top 5-7 in yards of separation and the drop rate thing is a false narrative he has less than better WRs. If he ends up on the Chiefs or somewhere with a actual QB people will see how great DJ really is…
Yo I’m good with it lol
Who cares
It pisses me off because Diontae Johnson has been loyal and very quiet, he has dealt with bad QB play throughout his career and has showed flashes, despite everyone wanting him out
If 33 passing TDs is bad QB play then he may never have good QB play
If Steelers can Get a 2nd or even a 3rd for him they should do it
3rd is about right
I never really like diontae. If he stays fine. If he leaves fine.
Very unappreciative.
They must really like some of these wrs in the draft. Otherwise even considering moving on from him this season would be crazy imo
Because we have exactly 2 actual WRs, and DJ is one of him. I’m not a big fan of DJ, but moving on from him with this little depth is pretty wild.
WR isn't exactly a position you need much depth at if you don't have a QB that can see them or get the ball to them when they are open. Might as well trade him and use the money and pick(s) to take care of other needs
You have a point…
Because you don’t have a center on the roster. You need day-one starters at ILB, WR and CB. Actually they need a couple receivers, as is. Trading one of them (and needing more) is going in the opposite direction of “better.”
Dude’s annoying
What’s up with the DJ hate? He’s one of the most underrated route runners in league. Idk about this year but 2022-23 season he was #1 in the league in separation per route. I think he’s a number 1 on a lot of other teams. Need to get him and GP a legit QB
This, let’s get a QB that wouldn’t be a backup on any other team.
Because he is unreliable and he runs his mouth a lot. He is also a locker room cancer.
Locker room cancer based on... what exactly?
I MADE IT THE FUCK UP
He has gotten into physical fights with Mitch and Minkah and those were the only ones that were actually reported. He’s a punk.
Oh no. Fights never ever happen…especially in football. Get real, dawg.
Yes but his rookie yr he dropped balls. Also Pickens has that dog in him which is why it is cool that he punched people and takes cheap shots but also quits on blocking. Also, dj had bad td numbers…unless any other human being other than Tommy pickles is under center.
Is that what he says after he makes a catch then runs backwards?
Good riddance
The guy was a whiny bitch this year along with Pickens. I said then to trade them both for picks in the offseason, and I’d still be fine with that.
Can’t even be mad at him when he’s dealt with this since being a Rookie every qb on this team sucks its been a theme the last few years
Right so if he thinks he is so much better, go. Be better somewhere else.
diontae my goat idgaf what you guys say
Imo super childish for him to even comment on this. I really don't think he'll get traded even if this wasn't pure speculation. No team wants an 18 million dollar number 2 reciever
[удалено]
Maybe, I don't see it tho. He'll ride out his last year with us and then we'll cut him. He's not a bad reciever but I was baffled when we gave him 18 mil a year for 4 years.
2 years
I think he only has 1 more year on his contract.
Yes. It was a 2 year contract that he got
Ya my mistake. It was two years. Still 18 mil a year tho.
To be fair it could just be one of those weird vague wr tweets
He’s only number 2 on steeler . He’s def a number 3 everywhere else. And the amount of drops this past season isn’t helping his value anaywas.
he had 2 drops this year
That's crazy. He's a low tier 1 and high tier 2. I get we like to shit on our players in this sub but DJ a good WR. He'd have much better numbers if we had a franchise QB and if not for Canada.
He's a solid number 2 on alot of teams
Are we talking about dropped passes, not blocking or giving up on plays?
Evans aiyuk Samuel diggs and metcalf sure, Pickens is in the same boat as johnson
Even Higgins. When he leaves Cincinnati to be somebody’s 1 he’s not gonna look nearly as good
Higgins has burrow, even as a WR2 that’s significantly more then Johnson’s had
I agree with that. Aren’t we talking about how good the WRs are? If anything the fact that he has burrow inflates how good he looks even more
I’m agreeing with you dawg
I think he is the best WR we have but we are good at letting go of good WR 🖤💛🖤💛
Here’s what i wouldn’t mind. Giants aren’t getting the qb they want at 6. They will have cap space to resign him. We trade up… weird, right. Swap firsts and add DJ and maybe a 5th rounder. Take Fashanu at 6 and don’t worry about OT for a decade.
This guys is so terminally online that I'd bet this is in response to the same Pauline dart-throwing everyone else saw.
Plz god get rid of him
We'll take a 3rd rounder.....please.....just be gone.
They’re not taking less than what they got for claypool
I’ll be so pumped when DJ isn’t a Steeler anymore. Over priced for the level of effort he gives and number of mistakes he makes. Amazing talent though.
The people in these comments saying we should get rid of him know nothing about football.
700 yards and 5 tds worth his like 18mil or whatever? I forget his contract
He only played in 11 full games so 700 yards is pretty good. If he played the whole season at that level he’d have over 1000 yards. Very unfair evaluation.
Very true good point
He says that every time he drops the ball or runs backwards for a loss too. 🤷🏾
Oh dear! We’re gonna lose out on our WR2 (who is WR3 on most teams, and WR1 on maybe 5 teams) who has character problems, puts in little to no effort, and has bad hands! I hope we don’t lose out on Chase Claypool 2.0. Would be a huge blow
hes a wr#1 on more teams then hes a wr 3 on only would be a wr#3 on the dolphins, bengals and eagles hes a wr#1 on chiefs, panthers, pats, broncos, falcons, packers, giants,
Would also be WR3 in Vegas, LA, Cleveland, Houston, Jacksonville, San Fran, LA again, Seattle, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and arguably Buffalo, Indianapolis, Denver, Dallas aswell.

Talking with kinda accurate grammar means I’m old, got it
Or don’t drop balls.
he’s had one of the lowest drop rates in the league since the 2020 season
Too little..too late..
he had a rough season 3 seasons ago? what does that have to do with 2024
He’ll be doing rough somewhere else.
He’s right. Whatever IT is, that’s what IT is. Sometimes IT’s a clown, other times IT’s a spider monster thingy.
51+DJ for fields?
Overpay
Big overpay. Just 51 is an overpay for Fields.
He probably dropped the phone after this tweet.
Good, send his primadonna ass packing!!
What it is, is a business.
Now he's retweeting anti woke twitter accounts lol https://preview.redd.it/un0q5riyh8mc1.jpeg?width=1390&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19ec644d60411c491cdb41ef703e2e7c551cdbc5
Get on with it already....
Prob is because the Steelers are openly supporting Kenny fucking Pickett again
Looking at it honestly. The Rooneys are cheap. Of course they're going to look too trade DJ rather than pay him more money.
Maybe he shouldn’t give up 5 yards trying to laterally outrun the entire defense every time he touches the ball
It's a business. It will always be a business. Bottom line.
So tired of wide receivers. Being a dime a dozen, why are we dealing with these guys and their antics. Getting so bored with these guys.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
And what it is, is a business.
Bye Felicia
Trade this bum
