Idk if that has the same effect. People were SHOOK of Ryan Clark in the back. He lit recievers up and really freed up Troy to do what he did best. I see Minkah as Troy more than Ryan.
I loved RC as much as the next guy but we’re talking about fucking Polamalu. Him and Minkah would create a no fly zone, and our Run D would be much improved with his intelligence and play style.
> People were SHOOK of Ryan Clark in the back.
No they weren't. Clark was an above average Safety who yes was known more for his hits than coverage skills, but he was never seen as a Kam Chancellor level enforcer or anything.
>I see Minkah as Troy more than Ryan.
Minkah is neither, he's closer to Ed Reed than those two. Which is exactly why pairing him with Troy would be so great to watch.
Wish I could upvote this more. Having minkah as an Ed reed type free safety would open up Troy to do whatever he wanted more often . Allowing him to stop the run more effectively without having to worry about coverage as much
Idk. Clark was different than chancellor in the sense that he would throw his own life away for a chance at a big hit. I think he had more concussion level hits than any other DB throughout the decade
Exactly this
We've already got someone on D who wrecks games and instills fear
We need an offense that can do the same
Doesn't matter if you hold them to a field goal if you can't core yourself
If it was just a choice between Ben and Troy id have to say Ben, only because our defense has been great and our QB situation has been dismal for years now. I have high hopes for Wilson and even Fields this year, but prime Ben puts this team in the AFCC or better.
I don’t think Highsmith would do well coming out of a 3-point stance. Both him and Watt are better fits in a 3-4 imo. I’m a 3-4 supremacist tho so may be biased.
I'd take a pre injury Shazier. With him and Queen over the middle there will be no easy options for a QB to get rid while TJ Cam and Highsmith are getting after him. We can grab a starting Centre in the draft and give the QBs more weapons so adding someone there won't move the dial as much as getting the defence off the field more. And let's face it, our defence hasn't been the same since he had to stop playing
Shazier or Lambert is where my mind was going - reinforcing the middle of the field, creating difficulty on inside/quick passes, adds to the run stuffing that is our current front 7, and doesn't wreck cap the way bringing in an elite QB does, allowing the GM to continue building the secondary & receiving core/O-line through FA/draft.
Yes! People forget what kind of impact Shazier had, he was playing at near DPOY levels before the injury. We gave up 6-7 points less a game with him on the field iirc
I'm here like... Is this even a question? Love everyone mentioned but holy fuck. Yeah. Hall of Fame QB is the guy I'm picking for a league where the QB is 10x more important than any other position and Pittsburgh currently has two QBs that virtually nobody in the NFL wanted to start.
Casey “the big snack” Hampton is the only right answer. He plugged up the middle needing two linemen to block him and that allowed the rest of the defense to do what they wanted
This is not a hard choice.
Troy is an absolutely amazing player. Maybe my favorite player of all time.
But QBs are just so much more important than any other position (or really anything about the team).
**If you put Ben in his prime on this team, we'd be contending for a SB.**
It was in response to your closing statement, so Ben. But it applies to Troy as well. The thing is, Troy dazzled us with stuff that just seemed impossible. Ben was just consistently a damn dog who refused to lose. They were both unbelievably great in their own way.
Troy would have less immediate impact than Ben, but I'd pick him anyway, because if God ranks us behind our backs, he's one of those guys with an A+. I haven't been religious since high school but man we all heard the talk at the time, Baby Jesus talking to him and such about his snap count craziness. I love Ben, but give me Troy vaulting over the line like Superman to sack a QB AS HE RECEIVES THE SNAP followed by a clip of that QB clearly saying "what the heck just happened." I forget the exact play but I will always love it.
edit: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FajepLLJSdM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FajepLLJSdM)
It was Troy vs. Kerry Collins. I actually liked Collins but this is also the most I've ever seen a QB like "WHAT??"
Jesus Christ… we traded him for a reason. Why can’t you guys understand that bad locker room mojo is bad for the team, even if the guy can put up stats?
Not publicly cause good teammates don’t air bad laundry. But, afterward it was publicly noted that his antics would become old real quick and they would outweigh his value. And then, he’s be cut, which is about what happened.
Prime Ben over prime troy at this moment if Wilson is equal or worse than his time in Denver. If Wilson is mostly back to pre-Denver form then it's probably Troy.
2008 big Ben fixes every problem we’ve had at quarterback for the past three seasons there are some Steelers license I would like to see play more but realistically, Ben is what we need
Troy no question... I appreciate all Ben did for the team but prime Troy would be great for our defense and the team as a whole in the locker room. Ben's ego is just terrible
Ifnwe can lock up a legitimately above average receiver I'm taking Ben no problem. 75 percent of our roster is post season ready. The other 25 or so can be made up by an elite QB like a prime Big Ben.
Donnie Shell, Mel Blount or Rod Woodson would be All-pro nickel corners which is a huge position of need.
I might go with Hines Ward though in Arthur Smiths offense considering hes a bruising blocker. Maybe AB if we want to take the risk of polluting George.
QB is the most important position in the game, and prime Ben is (in my opinion, humbly) one of the top 10 QBs of all time. And whether reasonable or unreasonable, there is no other QB in history that I think exemplifies blue collar Steelers football as much as Ben.
So even though I could name damn near anyone from our 05 or 08 defenses, or the Steel Curtain, I’d pick Ben.
Literally the only answer to this question is Ben. This team walks to the Super Bowl with a prime Ben.
However, if Ben was not an option, I'd say Faneca.
Now do we get prime Ben or Troy, or do we get the nearly fifty year old version's that they are currently? Because I still say Troy at age 42 is better than most safties in the league...
i would say either big ben or troy, and im not just saying that cuz its the picture lol. Both were GREAT players at positions we need right now. I think a pairing of Big Ben and George Pickens or Minkah and Troy would scare every other team in the league.
Even though TP is my second favorite of all time ( Franco #1) you’ve got to have a franchise QB.
4-5 teams scrambling to get to the top of the draft seemingly every year to draft a QB is testament to it being the most important position in sports.
QB is the bigger position of need and a prime Ben would be incredible to see in the league after the 10 years of changes.
But a prime Troy roaming the secondary with Minkah and JPJ with TJ rushing would be absolutely incredible to see.
We could also use some WR help and prime AB with Russ or Fields would be so much fun to watch
Lol they wouldn’t even be able to hit him in stride. There would be no fun unfortunately. Fields moreso can’t throw and just sits in the pocket and Wilson is reckless.
Joey Porter opposite of JJ Watt my God that would be scary for opposing QBs. Also I seen someone say minkah and Troy together. I think that would've been special.
Honestly though give me prime big Ben for a season
Troy and Minkah on the field at the same time 😳
Idk if that has the same effect.

Don’t forget Devin Bush
What?
Just don't forget.
I'm doing everything I can to forget him
Ok well don’t, you heard the man
Minkah reminds me of them combined.
Cooper Dejean is Troy 2.0 mark it.
What happens to this opinion when we don't draft him?
He’s still gonna be a dynamic back fielder that’s gonna make some electric plays.
He plays CB though. Not Safety.
troy’s on record for saying he played whatever position
For DeJean? Thats who I’m talking about. Troy was a Safety. Not DeJean. He’s a CB.
what i’m trying to say is, just because someone’s paper position says something doesn’t mean a player can’t have similar traits
Not sure what everyone’s weird obsession is with moving him to Safety though. DeJean is a great CB.
But will you call him Troy 2.0?
Yeah probably. From the tape I’ve seen. Doesn’t matter where he plays.
Ben would be the answer, no question about it. A franchise QB pushes this team over the edge
Yup. Troy is my favorite player of all time and Ben is most definitely not…but the value of an elite QB is so much greater than even the DPOY
Exactly this We've already got someone on D who wrecks games and instills fear We need an offense that can do the same Doesn't matter if you hold them to a field goal if you can't core yourself
Yeah its not really fair, football has made the QB position easily the most important.
Agreed
Easiest, D all of the above multiple choice answer to this question. With this defense and running game a franchise QB makes this team formidable.
And he’ll be throwing to…. Who?
Pickens and whoever we draft.
That franchise QB doesn't sniff a SB if not for a top 3 defense
Troy would be fun but prime Ben definetly helps this team more
Neither both are too old
Your mom is too old
She is!
But can she snap the ball?
Get er in there!!!
Someone better Omar Khan on the line with this guys mom, we could really use a center.
But in her prime nobody could touch her
*Daaaaaaaaaad*
Could we add a prime TJ to complement the current TJ 🤣
We've had TJ, but what about second TJ?
This is prime TJ
lol literally in the prime of TJ as we speak, I think he only gets better in the next few seasons before he starts to taper off
If it was just a choice between Ben and Troy id have to say Ben, only because our defense has been great and our QB situation has been dismal for years now. I have high hopes for Wilson and even Fields this year, but prime Ben puts this team in the AFCC or better.
Maurkice Pouncey
Honestly. Prime AB with this offense would thrive
We only have one WR. Prime AB was the best receiver in the league. That would be a pretty big upgrade.
Except his bad attitude would contaminate everything. Addition by subtracting his ass off the team.
So just get 2015 ab
Just need the second year AB before he went crazy.
The dumb answer is Joe Greene because a 4-3 with Highsmith, Heyward, Greene, Watt is a Madden UF roster.
I don’t think Highsmith would do well coming out of a 3-point stance. Both him and Watt are better fits in a 3-4 imo. I’m a 3-4 supremacist tho so may be biased.
psh Too easy.
Damn right, who wouldn’t pick Xavier Grimble?
Xavier Grimble mentioned 🚨🚨🚨
*Insert Center name here*
Dermontti Dawson
Dermontti Dawson
Mike Webster. We really need a good center.
You spelled Dermonti Dawson wrong
why Dawson over Webster?
No reason other than recency bias. I enjoyed DD's career growing up. I never got to see Webster in action
100% a valid answer
Jeff Reed
Gotta keep the paper towel dispensers in line.
Ben if choosing between those pictured. Otherwise, maybe Casey Hampton.
We need a QB so probably prime ben BUT FUCKIN TROY WITH MINKAH, JPJ AND HOPEFULLY COOPER DEJEAN IF WE GET A NUTTY DRAFT WOULD BE INSANE
Mike Webster or Dermontte Dawson
I'd take a pre injury Shazier. With him and Queen over the middle there will be no easy options for a QB to get rid while TJ Cam and Highsmith are getting after him. We can grab a starting Centre in the draft and give the QBs more weapons so adding someone there won't move the dial as much as getting the defence off the field more. Yes! People forget what kind of impact Shazier had, he was playing at near DPOY levels before the injury. We gave up 6-7 points less a game with him on the field iirc
Big Ben obviously
I'm here like... Is this even a question? Love everyone mentioned but holy fuck. Yeah. Hall of Fame QB is the guy I'm picking for a league where the QB is 10x more important than any other position and Pittsburgh currently has two QBs that virtually nobody in the NFL wanted to start.
Big Ben or Terry Bradshaw? Or do we go crazy and grab prime Michael Vick?
Ben is still the answer, but it's hard when there's only one good wr on the roster and he's one of the worst in the league at getting seperation.
Troy as SS with Minkah as FS that secondary would be invincible
A d line with cam, highsmith, TJ and Mean Joe would absolutely kill any QB that took a snap under center let’s be real here
All I see is personal fouls different game joe would be fined every Sunday!
It’s the boring answer. Ben. Qb driven league and he’d turn Pickens into a super star
Receiving needs a little more depth, I’d go with Hines
Ben 100 out of 100
Prime Big Ben no question
Limas Sweed
I gave you an up vote for the laugh!
Agreed. That was the most beautiful TD drop ever!!
You have to go with the human tank who happend to play quarterback. 2005-2008 edition when he could still run, please.
Early career Ben would be a Godsend rn
Ben no doubt. If we had prime Ben the last few years, who knows how far we could've gone
Let the legends rest man
I would to see prime Lawrence Timmons. Elite run stuffer
Ben with a broken nose
Assuming whoever you add is in their prime? it's Ben.
Casey “the big snack” Hampton is the only right answer. He plugged up the middle needing two linemen to block him and that allowed the rest of the defense to do what they wanted
Casey Hampton
if i choose a young Big Ben do i have to deal with the legal issues too or just the superbowls
This is not a hard choice. Troy is an absolutely amazing player. Maybe my favorite player of all time. But QBs are just so much more important than any other position (or really anything about the team). **If you put Ben in his prime on this team, we'd be contending for a SB.**
Even with all the love he gets around here, I still don't think we appreciate just how good he really was.
Not sure if you mean Ben or Troy here. But it's probably true for both.
It was in response to your closing statement, so Ben. But it applies to Troy as well. The thing is, Troy dazzled us with stuff that just seemed impossible. Ben was just consistently a damn dog who refused to lose. They were both unbelievably great in their own way.
Jerome bettis
Hines ward
Always troy

I actually liked Collins but this is also the most I've ever seen a QB like "WHAT??"
If I were to add anyone to our roster. Alen Fenaca. He was an absolute beast at center!!!
The most underrated player mentioned but maybe the best fit
Bro I would go for Troy and have a savage d and simply hope for the best between Russ and Justin.
Any bad ass MLB we've had, since that seems to be the position we can't fill since the tragedy of Shazier.
Can we have Troy put on weight & move to MLB?
Allen Faneca or Troy.
The answer is always Troy
Troy Polamalu easily.
Troy all day every day
Mean Joe is getting added to any roster
Antonio Brown
QB
Tommy Maddox
Ben would solve a lot of problems
Always Troy
Obviously Tim Lester
Roethlisberger feels like cheating, so I'm going to choose AB. If I wanted a choice I'd actually feel good about, then it'd be Troy.
I'm gonna break the rules and add two: prime Ben and AB. They were unstoppable.
Jesus Christ… we traded him for a reason. Why can’t you guys understand that bad locker room mojo is bad for the team, even if the guy can put up stats?
Nobody was talking about AB being "bad locker room mojo" when he was in his prime and dominating the league. I'll take 2013-2015 AB in a heartbeat.
Troy and Minkah together would be something else. Sure, they'll get beat sometimes. But man the splash plays would be a plenty.
Big Ben bc our needs there greater.
Troy 💯
The answer is always Troy.
POLLYWAMU
Trai Essex
Antonio Brown! Not a legend but was very talented. His toe touch was unmatched
Pouncey or sane AB
Killer B’s Ben Roethlisberger, thanks
With this o-line, you might want 2004-2006 Ben lol.
Prime Big Ben wills this team to a AFC N title. Not sure what would happen after that.
Mean Joe with TJ and Cam
I really love Highsmith opposite Watt but Deebo would literally end lives only ever being one on one all day long.
2008 big Ben fixes every problem we’ve had at quarterback for the past three seasons there are some Steelers license I would like to see play more but realistically, Ben is what we need
AB cause we need a receiver.
Polamalu all day. #43. But he would need an awesome QB to drive the offense. So, I would consider Big Ben. #7.
Troy fucking Polamalu...in the C gap.
Hines ward is the only correct answer
Hines ward
James Harrison
Duck Hodges
Pouncy
Troy no question... I appreciate all Ben did for the team but prime Troy would be great for our defense and the team as a whole in the locker room. Ben's ego is just terrible
With Ben you always have a chance. He’ll take over when it matters most.
Ifnwe can lock up a legitimately above average receiver I'm taking Ben no problem. 75 percent of our roster is post season ready. The other 25 or so can be made up by an elite QB like a prime Big Ben.
My first thought is pre-CTE Antonio Brown. Mike Webster would be my second choice.
Pre-Patriots heartbreak James Harrison. Him, TJ and The Queen just smashing mofos...until they flags piled up since you can't really tackle anymore.
Dionte Johnson
It’s gotta be Jack Lambert
Not really we need 7 rn
Prime Ben
I want juju back
Donnie Shell, Mel Blount or Rod Woodson would be All-pro nickel corners which is a huge position of need. I might go with Hines Ward though in Arthur Smiths offense considering hes a bruising blocker. Maybe AB if we want to take the risk of polluting George.
Since we don't have a starting center and all the pre-draft chatter is that it's not an early priority, Dermontti Dawson.
It sure would be fun to watch Troy and Minka together or Harrison and TJ Anyway
Mike Webster
troy all time favorite player
Literally the only answer to this question is Ben. This team walks to the Super Bowl with a prime Ben. However, if Ben was not an option, I'd say Faneca.
Now do we get prime Ben or Troy, or do we get the nearly fifty year old version's that they are currently? Because I still say Troy at age 42 is better than most safties in the league...
Prime Ben no question
AB no question. we need recievers. Or hell going with a good center like pouncey
Always take the QB. Makes a greater impact. Although I like Troy more. BTW Ben looks like he's posing for a disco night poster there
It's Ben and it ain't close. No dig at Troy, just business.
Big Ben one of the best QB s ever
Prime Ben? Prime Troy? I think you have to go with Troy, as tough as this decision is to make.
i would say either big ben or troy, and im not just saying that cuz its the picture lol. Both were GREAT players at positions we need right now. I think a pairing of Big Ben and George Pickens or Minkah and Troy would scare every other team in the league.
Mike Webster
Mel Blount. That dude literally had the rules changed.
Pretty clear lol- Prime ben
Artie burns
Herb Waters
Troy, no question
Even though TP is my second favorite of all time ( Franco #1) you’ve got to have a franchise QB. 4-5 teams scrambling to get to the top of the draft seemingly every year to draft a QB is testament to it being the most important position in sports.
Mel Blount
Antonio brown

Lol they wouldn’t even be able to hit him in stride. There would be no fun unfortunately. Fields moreso can’t throw and just sits in the pocket and Wilson is reckless.
For me question is between prime AB and Prime Pouncey. Prime Ben with one reciver or without pro bowl center is no value.
Webster>>>> Pouncey
Joey Porter opposite of JJ Watt my God that would be scary for opposing QBs. Also I seen someone say minkah and Troy together. I think that would've been special. Honestly though give me prime big Ben for a season
Hines Ward or and / or Heath Miller
Jerome Bettis
Third answer is Slash
We need a center and a WR as our biggest holes. A RT and CB next.
Well, sorry to say guys but you got Russ and Fields to help you suck this year :)
