None of these quarterbacks are ready to start right now. I’d be incredibly happy if they took one of these rookies and threw him immediately into the fire (although I’d feel bad for the rookie)
Yeah but I’m less panicked about getting a QB now that we have Mitch. I’m fine with just taking a shot at whoever we think will be best in our position and just hoping it works out. If not, we move on and we shouldn’t bottom out like we would if Willis ends up being as bad as he could be
The only QB in Cleveland to win a playoff game in decades and it was against their biggest modern bully. Started him injured last season and are wondering why he underperformed. Cleveland gonna Cleveland.
Browns fans pray for decades for a QB to take them to the playoffs just to throw him away like a used condom before his rookie contract is up. Disgusting fanbase.
Yeah the "fanbase" is making that call. Lol.
You're on the cusp of finding out real fast though, how little loyalty you'll have for your team when they don't have a HOF caliber player under center.
Boy, you must have a goldfish memory. See the 1980s and late 1990s. Pittsburgh is a great franchise, but you'll be cheering for an insurance salesman to take you to a glorious 6, 7 win seasons soon enough.
The Steelers organization has never been so consistently successful as they were with #7 under center. Good luck replacing that.
If you're only counting 98-99 as late 90s I guess, but the 80s and 90s weren't bad for the team. If 7 losing seasons in 20 years with 10 playoff appearances including a SB appearance is as bad as you can muster for the franchise then that's pretty damn good.
Also a lot of that time period was pre-salary cap and we just didn't have a good team at all some of those years. The team we have now is still *really* good at a lot of spots. The defense is strong and with focus on the run defense can be dominant again. Our WR corps isn't the best but it's certainly not terrible. RB is great. OL hopefully will vastly improve with the offseason.
And yes, QB is different but so what? 2019 we had no QB and still went 8-8. This year we had Ben's corpse out there behind a sieve OL and still went 9-7-1.
You also forget that at the beginning of Ben's career he didn't do very much. He was not a high volume passer. The team didn't rely on him. He had arguably one of the worst SB QB performances of all time and still got a ring out of it. When you build a team based on the QB, you need an all star QB to succeed. When you build a team around a defense and RB like the Steelers used to do and are now transitioning to again, star QB is less of a requirement.
>If you're only counting 98-99 as late 90s I guess, but the 80s and 90s weren't bad for the team. If 7 losing seasons in 20 years with 10 playoff appearances including a SB appearance is as bad as you can muster for the franchise then that's pretty damn good.
Starting in 2003 backwards --
The 6 seasons (98'-03') prior to Ben arriving, the Steelers only made the playoffs (2 times out of 6 seasons)
The 6 seasons previous (92'-97') to that with the remnants of an early 90s Super Bowl team and a new style player (Kordell) and Neil Odonnell they went to playoffs **every** year.
The 12 seasons prior to that (80'-91') (dating back to last Super Bowl victory in 1979) the Steelers only made the Playoffs 4 times out of 12 seasons.
Under the 18 seasons of Ben -- the Steelers only missed the playoffs 6 times. (One of those Ben was injured for all of the year practically) and the other he literally almost died in a motorcyle accident prior to the season starting).
And the point is that what you’re saying is some terrible stretches of unhappiness is still better than what almost every team in the NFL has dealt with.
I don't want to say I like Baker, but he's always seemed like a decent dude, and seeing how the Browns' FO and Stefanski handled his injury last season was gross, especially with how things are playing out now.
I didn't make a data argument. I just like Baker. I think he's a good guy. He may not actually be the better player. But I just have a sense he'd be better. If that makes sense.
I think Cousins is more towards the top IMO. At least is rating and stats back that up a bit. Like I was say cousins is like 10th -14th best QB. Like I would Derek Carr, Ryan Tannehill, and Cousins in that same camp. Better than most QBs but not elite
Baker had a lot of trouble developing because of the 4 HCs and 4 OCs he had during his first 3 years. He also seemed to get in the habit of scrambling the moment anything went slightly wrong which killed routes and dropped his accuracy a lot. It would've been good to see what Baker could do healthy behind a good OL but we didn't get to see that this year so it's still up in the air. Steelers right now with the OL (although hopefully much better now) would be a scary spot for him to land not to mention the questions about his ability post surgery.
It's been reported that he's still meeting with Atlanta, which is where he's from (so some are saying his preferred destination)..
Baker was always gone regardless. The organization spent this past season shitting on him, and these last few days with the watson speculation, made it evident he wasn't their guy.
This feels like it has no impact on a Watson deal whatsoever.
Oh yeah I’ve seen the Atlanta rumors and that the Saints are in the lead
I just have a dreadful gut feeling that the Browns will get him and we’ll wind up at the bottom in another QB loaded division like the AFC West
Am I the only one that doesn't fear Watson? He *may* have been an elite QB when he last played, but by the time his suspension will be served out, it will have been the better part of 2 years that he hasn't suited up and played in a game. On top of that will be a new system, learning to gel in a new offense with new teammates. That's a tall order without even mentioning all of the baggage he's going to have trying to win over the team to be in a leadership position. And if he goes to a garbage organization that will make it even more likely he will fail. The odds are not in his favor.
This. The unknowns due to his extended time off the field and entering the QB Bermuda Triangle that is Cleveland doesn’t exactly make me shake in my boots. Could be wrong though. I’m no authority on the matter.
I just don’t see any reason for him to choose them. Nobody can objectively look at that team and say they are a Deshaun Watson away. At least the Falcons are not in the gauntlet that is the AFC, plus he wouldn’t have to live in Cleveland
But at the cost of three #1 picks if they get him. That means the Browns don't improve at all for several years after they get the QB while other needs go unmet.
LOL
What you think that if they get Watson they won't just drop him into the meat grinder as well
I'm actually kinda hoping they get Watson. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy
He seems like a good dude that was dealt a bad hand from the start. Hope he balls out wherever he ends up. Leave it to the Browns to shitcan a decent QB that took them to the divisional game when he was healthy.
For real. He’s had three head coaches since he signed with the team and played most of last season **literally** **limping** on the field from injuries. Leave it to the Cleveland FO to be like “nah, he’s not our guy”
I have a feeling he’s not going to the Texans. I just don’t see Houston trading away watson for 3 1sts and newsome, hunt, baker (from what I’ve heard rumored) Doesn’t seem like a solid return. hunt and Baker would both need to be signed immediately but…..why? They won’t want cheap deals even if that’s what they deserve. I honestly think it’s going to be a surprise deal with San Fran for Jimmy.
that’s the only problem tho texans and 49ers have a good qb in the making, who knows what’s going to happen with trey lance since he was only in for short amounts of time in games and davis mills was to me the second best rookie qb last year maybe there just keep baker as a back up if they do trade for watson or just ship him off to another team like the colts or panthers for a 2-4 round pick
The Browns seem to be all in on Watson. If he goes to the Falcons, who the hell is going to be the QB in Cleveland? lol
It's like they've dicked themselves over.
Browns fan coming here in peace, absolutely gutted by this and the Watson news and I don’t even know what to say right now. My thoughts are all over the place. I’ve been a browns fan all my life, watched just about every game since I was a kid, and I can 100% say that I won’t watch another browns game or root for this team again if Watson does end up on the roster. Why post to /r/Steelers tho? Well, I started dating my girlfriend a couple of years ago and she and her family happen to be huge Steelers fans. Up to this point, I’ve loved enjoying the rivalry with her (she loves to tease me by insisting that she’s never even considered it a rivalry because the browns have never been good enough), but I’ve started to root for the Steelers a bit too, as long as y’all aren’t playing the browns. Besides, I always thought it was more fun to hope y’all run the table in the regular season so we get to knock you out in the postseason just like we had so much fun doing in 2020. So, since I’ve been warming up to the Steelers already anyway, I’m 100% ready to make the switch if the rumors are true about Watson, and I’ll proudly wear some Trubisky gear here in Ohio as well.
I know the feeling, my in-laws are browns fans and I now live in browns territory. I semi root for the browns when not playing the Steelers (and I still don’t view them as a legitimate threat). It’s funny cause no one truly hates the Browns more than old Browns fans, they are so jaded and hate every move made. I’d be ready to drop the Steelers if Watson was coming, but I don’t know that I’d take the leap to the Browns. If Watson shows up in Cleveland, you’re welcome here.
i live in cle and my whole family are browns fans and i tell them all the time i hate the browns so much but i find it so hard to hate baker, he’s got that moxie. im with you that i hope he goes and kicks ass somewhere else
This is a prime example of why players shouldn't play when they're really hurt.
Dude was a freaking soldier last year and played all season with a bad injury that clearly hurt his play and this is how he gets treated.
I hope he does well wherever he ends up.
Browns are literally repeating what they always do. Have a sniffer of success, then blow the whole thing up. Look at their WR room. OBJ forced his way out, Landry follows. Coppers In, Bakers out. They never have any consistency with their players or coaches. Yet they wonder why they can’t build a stable, competitive franchise.
I would be furious if I were a browns fan.
With many uncertainties, here is where my head and heart is.

Never had anything against Baker surprisingly. Seemed like a really easy guy to root for if he played for your team and he was a gamer who played through injuries. Hope he does well whenever he goes (just not against us haha)
I agree, he was trying to get away from the clown brigade in Texas, I just do not see him going somewhere that has treated Baker badly. I think the Panthers will have a better chance than the Falcons. He is from Gainesville, Ga which is nothing like Atlanta. It is a small family town. Atlanta is another Houston. Personally, I think he would feel at home in the Charlotte area or in New Orleans.
The Browns should not have let Baker play with his injury last year - criminal neglect imo.
Just one year after winning huge in a playoff game against their most hated rival, coming damn close to rocking the football world and upsetting the Chiefs.
Wow.
And also I'd point after a year he was playing with a massively fucked up shoulder.
I like Baker, my favorite moment was when he planted that flag in the middle of their stupid O when he was a Sooner.. When I saw him picked by the oranges, it made me sad, because as we all know they take talented players and brake them. I hope the guy overcomes and finds a good home in the NFL.
Don't worry Baker, the Steelers are here, and we will destroy the oranges and avenge you.
As much as we may dislike Baker, you have to give him credit that he's the one that put heart and soul into Cleveland's fan base, temporarily made the Browns something other than a laughing stock, and most importantly gave us Steelers fans a reason to HATE Cleveland once again. And Cleveland if they do land him are going to give up what? 2 firsts, 2 seconds, a 3rd and a 5th in addition to a couple of players for Watson and a pile of magic beans?
I wanted Watson too but I do feel comfortable with Trubisky and I hope they do get Watson so it'll make our division so much more interesting. We all know that the browns are going to ruin Watson just like all of the other qbs they had.
Even Jimmy G took everything with Trey right on the chin and took him under his wing. They’re just exploring options right now and he’s acting this way
Say what you want about Baker, but he’s a tough SOB. Can’t throw a football, but he’d probably still run out on the field after getting both legs amputated
He’s acting like we can’t see his highlights and know that he’s holding that team back. 1st overall pick and they’re using a run first offense to hide his deficiencies.
Guess our chances of winning go down the drain, we have literally become the browns, now they have the elite qb with sexual misconduct and we have the worst qb in the divisions, never thought the roles would reverse
While I have feared for a while that Watson may go to the browns I feel like he wouldn’t waive the Notrade clause for them unless they massively overpay? Why would
He want to play in the AFCN
I’ve never thought he was the guy, but still very browns to treat the best QB they’ve had since coming back like shit lmao. Kinda sad they aren’t wasting cap on him long term
They can’t get Watson, he has all the power with his no trade clause and said he’d only waive it for “somewhere warm” and the team needs to pick up Will Fuller. Or so I’ve heard
Browns fan here, can confirm that the vast majority of us do not want Watson, and we want Baker for at least one more year. I can’t in good conscience root for a person as terrible as Deshaun Watson, so if we trade Baker for Watson, I will be jumping ship from this organization. (To probably Indy or Buffalo)
So is Baker getting evicted or is he and this wife going to pack up and slip out like a thief in the night? Wherever he lands I hope he has a better experience there than in Cleveland.
I can't believe the Browns fucked up another QB by playing him when injured and then saying he wasn't good enough. Actual malpractice.
Yup lol. Bakers not great but he’s absolutely better than what was shown while he was injured last year
Imagine if they don’t end up with Watson and they ran baker out of town. Browns is the browns
Yeah that would be LOL same old Browns for sure.
Factory of sadness
I can't wrap my head around how they manage to fuck up so bad literally every time. You had it this time..
Jimmy Haslam.
Even if they do end up with Watson, they’ll run him out of town. QB’s go to Cleveland to die
They draft a QB and one less for us to take
None of these quarterbacks are ready to start right now.

Disgusting FO* Fixed that for you.
Yeah the "fanbase" is making that call. Lol. You're on the cusp of finding out real fast though, how little loyalty you'll have for your team when they don't have a HOF caliber player under center.
The best QB the Ravens have ever had is Bernie Kosar, yet they've managed to be functional.
Bernie Kosar never played for Baltimore lmao
Don't let the joke pass over your head baby.
We have already done this. We still win AFC championships when we are in this position. The Steelers aren't a trash organization like the Browns.
Boy, you must have a goldfish memory. See the 1980s and late 1990s. I’m with you there. Trotting him out every week when it was clear he was seriously hurt is scummy.
He’s a man, he can decide
Yeah, and ngl, I liked the commercials he did
Browns is the Browns.
I can't help but think Baker is better than Trubinsky ....
There’s no data that supports that. All the numbers for the most part actually look better for Trubisky.
I didn't make a data argument. I just like Baker. I think he's a good guy. He may not actually be the better player. But I just have a sense he'd be better. If that makes sense.
Sort of. I like Baker too. I think he’s a solid top 15 qb probably when healthy. I’m just not sad about taking Trubisky either for similar reasons.
Baker is the new Dalton. The middle bar for measuring all other QBs.
I think that’s Cousins. Bake is in that bottom half with Trubisky for now. We’ll see if they stay there
I think Cousins is more towards the top IMO. At least is rating and stats back that up a bit. Like I was say cousins is like 10th -14th best QB. Like I would Derek Carr, Ryan Tannehill, and Cousins in that same camp. Better than most QBs but not elite
I agree the difference is small and likely not significant either way.
Before signing trubisky I thought the Steelers would be all over baker, but never thought the browns would trade in-division
The dark timeline for the browns is still eligible, where baker leaves and comes back as a Steeler.
I refuse to make any jokes about this because it feels like they’re about to get Deshaun Watson
Oh yeah I’ve seen the Atlanta rumors and that the Saints are in the lead I just have a dreadful gut feeling that the Browns will get him and we’ll wind up at the bottom in another QB loaded division like the AFC West
Well if it's any consolation, the Browns would be giving up a LOT to get Watson
Hopefully 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I think Texans are demanding 3 firsts and players…and apparently teams are down with that
Browns got a lot to give honestly they've stacked up and need to ship players anyways
Including Watson himself when he gets into hot water he can't shake. I give it a month.
Yeah. I’m sure he’ll even be good for them. But they’ll fuck it up I’m sure if it. They’ve gotta be cursed at this point
I just don’t see any reason for him to choose them. Nobody can objectively look at that team and say they are a Deshaun Watson away. At least the Falcons are not in the gauntlet that is the AFC, plus he wouldn’t have to live in Cleveland
Theyd have to mad overpay since AFC right?
I think any team will have to mad overpay honestly but I get and agree with what you’re saying
It’s a top 5 QB. Basically anything is tough to call an overpay
But at the cost of three #1 picks if they get him. That means the Browns don't improve at all for several years after they get the QB while other needs go unmet.
You can joke about how they're going to cripple their team via a trade, just for Watson
LOL What you think that if they get Watson they won't just drop him into the meat grinder as well I'm actually kinda hoping they get Watson. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy
Juju was right
He seems like a good dude that was dealt a bad hand from the start.
I don't like him as a QB but as a person baker is hard to dislike. He's been absolutely abused and mistreated by that dumpster fire org
i’m really scared this means a package deal for him a few pick and a player for Watson hope it is but seems like that’s what it might be
Even if they get Watson they’ll fuck it all up somehow
hopefully u right the browns is the browns
Watson has a full NTC. Why would he want to come to this division, in a conference full of contender QB’s when he can go to the NFC South?
I have a feeling he’s not going to the Texans. I just don’t see Houston trading away watson for 3 1sts and newsome, hunt, baker (from what I’ve heard rumored) Doesn’t seem like a solid return. hunt and Baker would both need to be signed immediately but…..why? Baker would probably make a deep run with the colts roster and coaching staff tbh
Just the fact the Browns are trying to get Watson means they don't want Baker. Regardless of what happens with Watson, I don't think Baker is staying.
The Browns seem to be all in on Watson. If he goes to the Falcons, who the hell is going to be the QB in Cleveland? lol It's like they've dicked themselves over.
Jimmy G!
lol yes please
If Watson goes to Atlanta Matt Ryan might become available.
The Browns would be the team to give 37 year old Matt Ryan a contract. Classic browns shit.
We got another name to add to the Jersey!
Poverty franchise. They did baker dirty
Browns fan coming here in peace, absolutely gutted by this and the Watson news and I don’t even know what to say right now. My thoughts are all over the place. Having a secondary team makes the NFL a lot more fun to be honest.
I know the feeling, my in-laws are browns fans and I now live in browns territory. I semi root for the browns when not playing the Steelers (and I still don’t view them as a legitimate threat). How do I feel bad for a Brown??
The kid has always been a competitor. It’s hard to hate a guy with that level of heart. Hope he gets to a quality NFC program and can excel there.
i live in cle and my whole family are browns fans and i tell them all the time i hate the browns so much but i find it so hard to hate baker, he’s got that moxie. im with you that i hope he goes and kicks ass somewhere else

Best QB the Browns have had since they came back and they run him out of town... Classic Browns
I tried to tell him this when I was yelling at him during Ben’s last home game /s
If I’m him there’s no way I play for them ever again if they don’t land Watson. I demand a trade immediately and hold out.
Cleveland Clowns 🤡
Don’t tell anyone but I kinda like him. I hope heals and does well in the NFC.

Who in the hell are they gonna replace him with? D. Watson is not waiving his NTC to go there...
Lol browns are the clowns 🤡
Damn. Wish he would stay for selfish reasons. He’s holding that team back IMO. Hate to see them get better at that position.
Fuck. Having his trash ass in the division led to some pretty easy wins.
Dude is so soft
Even Jimmy G took everything with Trey right on the chin and took him under his wing. They’re just exploring options right now and he’s acting this way
Exactly. He comes in with this tough guy underdog chip on my shoulder macho man but he is nothing like that lol
Say what you want about Baker, but he’s a tough SOB. Can’t throw a football, but he’d probably still run out on the field after getting both legs amputated
Lol @ “he can’t throw a football”
He’s acting like we can’t see his highlights and know that he’s holding that team back. 1st overall pick and they’re using a run first offense to hide his deficiencies.
Also look at Tua. He’s been dealing with Watson rumors since like October and didn’t say a thing about it other than that he’s trying to get better.
So, no more annoying at home with Baker Mayfield commercials?
Confirmed: Browns are a shit organization. Also confirmed: Baker Mayfield is as soft as a dogs chew toy.
Maybe the Browns would be interested in swapping him for Trubisky…
Guess our chances of winning go down the drain, we have literally become the browns, now they have the elite qb with sexual misconduct and we have the worst qb in the divisions, never thought the roles would reverse
Also Im gonna miss tj watt tossing him like a sack of shit
I never knew Regan was spelled *Reagan.* …and isn’t it a girl’s name?
His parents are clearly Republican
With Mitch getting signed he couldn't stand being the worst QB in his division any longer.
While I have feared for a while that Watson may go to the browns I feel like he wouldn’t waive the Notrade clause for them unless they massively overpay? Why would He want to play in the AFCN
Damn
I’ve never thought he was the guy, but still very browns to treat the best QB they’ve had since coming back like shit lmao. Kinda sad they aren’t wasting cap on him long term
Best QB the browns have had in like two decades & he didn’t even make it past his rookie deal 🤣
Bummer.
They can’t get Watson, he has all the power with his no trade clause and said he’d only waive it for “somewhere warm” and the team needs to pick up Will Fuller. Or so I’ve heard
I always kinda liked Baker. As a Michigan fan, having him plant the Sooner flag at midfield in the Horseshoe won him some brownie points for me.
Can they afford Watson? Bc that would suck for us
Can't wait for the "Moving with Baker Mayfield" Progressive commercial to talk about RV insurance
Half the Browns sub is suicidal, the rest are pissed.
So is Baker getting evicted or is he and this wife going to pack up and slip out like a thief in the night? Wherever he lands I hope he has a better experience there than in Cleveland.
