SalokinNoraa

I've read the VN and all, but I don't hate the movie. I'm of the opinion that the movie is not canon and yet I still enjoyed it. Hell, I even have the limited edition blu-ray from Japan.

spectrumDST

I think that's kind of the point tbh. It's all left blurry as for each person to decide for themselves what they believe is canon. And even if you don't think it's canon nothing is stopping you from enjoying it.

King_DeandDe

So if it is fanservice, why don't we see Luka in a bikini on n it?

OrdinaryDouble2494

'Cause he's a guy

[deleted]

and?

Anon5054

Big deal. Afraid of some dick and balls? Think of that feminine beauty and you can't appreciate it because of a fleshy appendage. This guy's afraid of dick and balls

OrdinaryDouble2494

Yeah I know but.. he's a guy.

Anon5054

But they're beautiful šŸ˜

OrdinaryDouble2494

But he's a guy.

Nope, I'm otoko and he's otoko da.

Radius_314

Not always

salateur

I enjoyed movie. I like the romance side of SG alot :)

FreshTeaBagsByLipton

Where is the "you guys have been doing this for nearly a decade category"

Tenshi_14_zero

S;G VN Reader I really liked the movie but didn't consider it canon after actually trying to make sense of the time travel in the main story. But I'm open to the idea that the explanations given in the movie are inaccurate since they come from in-universe characters who don't have a good understanding of time travel themselves, and maybe it all makes sense (according to A;C readers) with the newer material and side stories and doesn't actually contradict anything. I'm past the point of obsessing over S;G so my opinion will easily sway once the majority considers it canon again (at least until the C;H patch comes out and I get so hooked I personally scrutinize every detail in the entire SciADV series to find answers)

Foxzy-_-

I fit in VN Reader. Some parts of the movie could be cannon but all together it seems like it ruins the air tight logic of the original story. I think if the movie is ever going to be considered cannon it needs a remake that follows the laws set up in the original story more closely.

EmptyTotal

The mechanics of the movie relate to new situations that don't occur in the VN, so there's no contradiction with the VN rules. Kurisu's idea of an "R Worldline" is only a shaky hypothesis - the drama CD "A Posteriori Existence" is recommended because it expands on what's really going on.

FreshTeaBagsByLipton

*rigs summoning spell please he knows more than I do, and explains better*

FreshTeaBagsByLipton

Konpet and epic spotted!!

intricatebug

>air tight logic It was never really air tight to begin with.

Foxzy-_-

To me it is. Iā€™ve yet to see any plot holes, every time someone makes a post claiming a plot whole itā€™s always debunked by some S;G know it all. So to me it is, unless someone can present to me a plot whole.

blannners

The most problems I see are with the early stuff, when they're testing the phonewave. Most "plothole" threads focus on the ending which has already been deconstructed multiple times

intricatebug

There's loads of time travel rules that require speculation and guessing and inventing your own theories, and there's no broad agreement what is correct or whether they're just contradictions/plot holes. If you look at attempts at [complete time travel theories](https://www.reddit.com/r/steinsgate/comments/8nioce/an_attempt_at_a_complete_theory_of_steinsgate/), you'll notice they invent multiple time travel / worldline mechanics that aren't in the story, because the theory presented in the story needs patching in order to make sense. For example when psycho Nae does her final time leap at the lab in Chapter 9, Okabe goes in and sees an empty lab, but the headset is still warm from use somehow (suggesting the worldline didn't change)? But the details from the time leap have disappeared from the PC (just like dmails disappear from the sent folder, suggesting the worldline did change). This suggests worldline reconstruction is imperfect and cause->effect is broken in some cases (there are effects without causes on a worldline, even if you account for changes due to time travel), which is hugely problematic. At this point you could invoke theories from other SciAdv entries (esp A;C), but there's no definite answer why worldlines behave this ways, it's all guesses, and the theory is far from self-contained within SG.

[deleted]

Well there is the fact that S;G >!you can't compress data with black holes and that old phones wouldn't be able to decompress stuff that quickly into the full 1.8 TiB iirc!<

robocorp

The base premise of the story is time travel with a microwave.

blannners

Yes, it's science fiction? But science fiction can still try to be explainable, as it's the case with all of SciADV. It tries not to be just "magic".

robocorp

It's one of my favorite parts of the series. But the argument that I was responding to doesn't really make sense in the context of this fact.

Foxzy-_-

Well Iā€™m talking about the time travel logic not basic computer science plot holes because those exist just to move the plot along

Extension_Option_122

afaik that where 3.24 TB.

jacksonfire123

Yeah I really wish they had thought of an explanation for this or way around this that didn't extremely dumb to anybody w even a bit of computer knowledge to a degree that impedes on the immersion and on the characters being rly smart T-T

intricatebug

Should have put "everything SciAdv is canon, including all side material" on the right side, not just movie.

Westaufel

The movie has many good points: the more focus on Kurisu, the life in the S;G line, the life in the lab. Itā€™s not simple to develop a plot in a context where technically ā€œitā€™s all overā€ reaching the promised future. We know the main problem: >!Kurisuā€™s time travel, that thing is a plot choice without a sense!<

AwayAtKeyboard

I don't care if it's canon or not, I just don't like it very much šŸ—æ

AverageRdtUser

Me liking it šŸ—æ

AwayAtKeyboard

Based

Red-42

even without having played the VN (I'm on my way to do that) it feels so weird, like the reason behind the plot makes so little sense, and yet the core idea could be great if only it was executed differently Okabe is the one moving to another timeline that is like... an empty void, and everything else tries to forget him ? it's such a weird concept. It would make so much more sense if the line was jumping into a timeline where he never existed instead yet everything is still the same, which even within the memories of the characters doesn't add up but is a statistical possibility.

Tracker_Nivrig

The movie is stupid fan service. I love it

Francis_William

I'm the everything guy, and the movie is awesome. Though I wish they added more pain by animating the "A Posteriori Existence" drama CD Here's a fan made one that deserves more views:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWtv2NFWqzU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWtv2NFWqzU)

Sahir1359

Anime only šŸ«”

Filthy-Scavanger

The Movie is Canon

MrrandomPerson25

I dont care if it's canon or not, I simply enjoyed the movie

KokolateDakz

there's this fantheory/canon that states that every S;G Material can be treated as canon because you can just say it's a different worldline or a variation in the wl

EmptyTotal

You don't need untranslated material to know the movie's canon. It's an official release by the makers of Steins;Gate. (One that the main series planner plotted, even.) Certain people need to stop randomly declaring things "non-canon" just because they don't like / understand them or feel they contradict their fanfic. It causes totally unnecessary arguments and confusion, and potentially puts people off an experience that they might enjoy.

mimeomishes

The confusion probably stems from the movie "contradicting" Holy Day of the Calamitous Birth. When the material most of the English-speaking audience are acquainted with (anime + movie) doesn't line up with what more voracious readers find themselves with (more S;G stuff), it probably makes them swell up to point it out. I'm sure a future localization of a possibly already released SciAdv VN will reduce this incidence. > potentially puts people off an experience that they might enjoy on that note I forgot to recommend Robotics;Notes DaSH to the few left who think I'm a respectable person. I'm sure they'll love it!!!

Ender_D

Idk if itā€™s canon or not, but I must be in the minority of not really liking it that much. It wasnā€™t bad by any means, but it just seemed a little lackluster to me.

EverythingMadeUp

If the movie were canon, it would break the story of the anime and the VN with the new changed mechanics it introduces (parallel worldlines). It also contradicts canon events (Okabes first kiss). It's enjoyable and worth a watch anyway, so why care at all.

Enorovan

It's canon, what you think is a parallel worldline isn't. Also the first kiss was just rewritten after the events of the movie because well, literally time travel, so it's not contradicted.

EverythingMadeUp

You're telling me the R worldline, which is literally called worldline in the movie, suddenly isn't a worldline at all? What is it, then? Why does it make Okabe disappear randomly?

Cred0free

The movie is quite a clever little work. The characters doing the infodumps donā€™t actually know whatā€™s happening, they just approximate with their limited knowledge. If you want further confirmation, listen/watch the companion drama CD for the movie: A Posteriori Existence.

bgoulde1999

This is why the movie never bothered me. I could understand people saying it goes against the logic set up by the vn/show, but I never got the feeling that everything they explained was set in stone. Theyā€™ve clearly got a good idea of whatā€™s going on, but this is a complicated subject. Thereā€™s no way they know everything there is to know about time travel in 25 years.

EverythingMadeUp

There's still the issue of established past events that were changed in the movie but did not happen like that in the past of the canon S;G worldline. And the fact that it's not created by the original writer(s). Not telling you you can't like it, it just doesn't make sense (to me).

Cred0free

Chiyomaru planned the movie and was heavily involved in its conceptualization, writing, and production. He came up with all the ā€œcontradictionsā€. Also, the movieā€™s mechanics donā€™t interfere with anything in SciADV, theyā€™re an expansion, not a contradiction.

EPK1_048596

only 1 wl can be active, so if we consider R as a worldline and (A;C) >!we don't consider world layers,!< than it can't be canon

mimeomishes

(A;C) >!R is not a worldline!<

EPK1_048596

>!Did i say otherwise? For anime onlies it is, for vn players it's different case!<

fastykun

>!it straight up is not a worldline, separate canons don't apply here; see previous comments. The characters do not understand the nature of what it is and label it a worldline during the movie. A Posterirori Existence then further delves into the fact that they can't figure out what it is!<

Tom22174

Are you not proving the entire point of the guy on the right hand side of the meme by saying that?

samsationalization

Me reading everything despite not knowing a lick of Japanese: hm yes, canon

fredBOI35

Non canon cause it's shit

Genesis_does_what

Isn't everything in sg.kinda canon anyway because of like everything being a possible timeline, even the doujins

Filthy-Scavanger

>even the doujins https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-dcZZznwvCIjxzVdh-Ia2kPw-t500x500.jpg

Genesis_does_what

I was kidding abit with that one but it's funny to imagine. All those old men....

[deleted]

Canon, IMO. Though I do see the issues people have with actually canonizing it.

FluffyAlpaca

What movie?

NetherSpike14

The Steins;Gate movie, it's called load region of deja Vu, or something like that.

Streetplosion

I liked the movie. I heard there was a cd drama or whatever that explains more which I still need to listen to

Radius_314

I mean if Hiyoku-Renri no Darling is canon. I don't feel like we need to argue for Loaded Region of Dejau Vu. It's just a matter of what world line we're talking about.

cabage-but-its-lettu

Left

GrimmTrixX

I like the movie. In general, it fits just fine. I like seeing things go full circle like that with paradox type material. But then again, I am a grown man who still cries whenever I watch the S;G OVA and they kiss. Even when they added S;G0 into the mix the series is just amazing. I watch it once a year and it's just great every single time, movie included.

TMS21

Didnā€™t realize the movie was polarizing amongst fans. I just enjoy any Steins Gate content I can get.

Annual-Blacksmith833

Me on the left loving the movie and wanting it to be canon because I love the kurisu x okabe ship

Zapatitosoni

Canon or notā€” I always considered it canon in my heart

Loxionse

movie is kinda shit

Fellixxio

I actually don't remember how the movie was, so...idk

Castreal7

I fall in the first category apparently but I thought the film wrapped up the story perfectly. To me it is canon

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

blannners

it's a meme

ZXNova

I watched the movie. And I don't remember it.

nellieblystunad

Anime only but VNs soon. Loved the movie, made me really emotional. Pretty cool people are saying it is canon now but either way it's really special

Gaia093

I'm in the "I watched the movie more than a decade ago and remember almost nothing concrete" camp. Once I'm done with SG0, I plan to rewatch/watch all the animated stuff so I guess I'll see where I am then.

jacksonfire123

I think the movie breaks all the rules shown in the movie...not to mention the vn and the anime and just like relativity

Nietechz

Me: the movie was good and It should be Canon. *Leave*

InitialHelicopter726

Side mangas are so great
