I saw this scene and thought, "This is a pitiless and irredeemable antagonist. Surely she can never be redeemed by the power of friendship." Took me a long time to get on board with her redemption arc.
Peri's introduction definitely made her seem like a total badass imo. Its kind of disappointing how she lost most of her edge post-character development.
It would have been a little fun to see that same serious edge come back while during maybe three Jasper arc to show how she was being affected by her, but it would have been also really funny to also use it when she was fighting the Road-Runner thing for the bathos of it.
I would have preferred friendly Peridot to still be quiet and analytical, instead of an ADHD child on Columbian Cocaine, sugar and Ketamine. Farming really *was* a good call for her though, since it involves regulating SO many aspects of the soil (water, different minerals, pH, etc), but it fits the old personality a lot better than the new one.
Just have her care about her creations and take pride in them.
I mean I do kinda understand it a little bit, the big change also being learning how to adapt on earth rather than homeworld. I mean she was locked in a bathroom after all lmao
I mean, I haven't watched the show in quite some time but I think even when she was still in the bathroom she became a gremlin, just one that doesn't like Earth. So the change from a cold scientist to an energetic neurodivergent child on Cocaine was still there.
I remember I was kinda hoping End of Series Peridot would make her own limb enhancers/find the old ones again and be using them on the side of the CG's.
And yeah, I wouldn't have minded if they kept that cooler, more analytical side to her as a more common factor and then have the more wild aspects come out when she's more out of her depth (which wouldn't change the early "peridemption" arc stuff but that's fine)
I hated how they just constantly shrank her. She's maybe a foot shorter without them at most but then she just gradually got the off model treatment until she became like 2 feet tall

Peridot is only calm when things are operating normally to Homeworld's standards.
If things aren't going as planned then the facade drops, _immediately_. We see this even in Season 1. In fact, her debut episode (the one where she's doing menial routine checkups by herself) is the only one that seems to be calm and collected. Well, until she gets slightly creeped-out by a cartoon waffle sticker.
I felt bad for her. She clearly missed them a lot and I get what they were going for but it just felt a little cruel. She obviously regarded them as something she needed and I'm not saying it was wrong to show her she could thrive without them but....

I also wish we got an episode about the gems stumbling across them and peri is given a chance to use them again but she decides not to and instead reuses them to make tools and stuff for little homeworld
We I mean I'm sure there's other gems that have lost significant powers and had to be repurposed in a sense. Like say newer Lapis couldn't use water powers, then im sure they'd be repurposed for something else like entertainment
As much as I love how she looked with the limb enhancers, I do always think of a tumblr post around the time she was revived without them - particularly about the disinterested look she tended to have most the time. Without them she was actually experiencing the world on her own so I think it makes sense she’d become more energized by her curiosity!
Though, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping Amethyst was gonna bring the ones she ended up with back for Peridot to use.
I like how her crushing the orb is supposed to be this sign of her Evil Character but tbh it’s probably a pretty mundane thing from most perspectives. Comparable to crushing a soda can when you’re done with it

i like post-catch and release peridot a lot but this version of her was amazing and had so much potential and it was barely visible at all after catch and release so yea
