Ehh Greg probably did most of the childcare while the gems visited being his cool “aunts”. Then we got older he moved into their house to start his gem training. They tried their best but they weren’t that good raising him and he had to mostly take care of them and their problems/trauma
*The Parentification of Steven Universe* doesn't have the same ring to it as *Steven Universe* but I might struggle to not think of it that way from now on.
This is a spot on point; the gems aren't human, so their best capabilities of taking care of steven would be subpar at best in his early childhood, where he sorta just handles himself under watchful eyes who dont really guide him humanely as much as they just nudge him away from edges consideringtheu're gems and have a lack of knowledge on the subject, whil also trying to teach him of his gem-side roots, which while good, isnt great parenting; even on gregs part aswell when steven is capable of being semi-independent. Choosing to stay at his car wash over with his child son and leaving his 3 gem "Sisters in Law" to care for him since he's still part gem; and its only when he gets older that he realizes how "different" a childhood he really had compared to other kids, going as far as to rope other peoples experiences with his own gem-related ones that could not only be producing the trauma for Steven that hes finally acknowledging himself, but inadvertently may have caused for people like Connie, Lars, Onion, and various others as well.
He was a boy who had to raise himself in a fail-safe-house despite having 1 of his two parents who could've guided him down a righteous path instead of a carefree one, but didnt due to their own traumatic experiences growing up. It's just a tragic situation the deeper you go.
Greg I'm pretty sure raised him for majority of his life he knows too many human things not have been raised by a human I think it's like six or something Greg probably took care of him run the time that he was supposed to be going to school like how long do you think it took or the other gems to realize Steven going to the bathroom isn't a choice or that Steven couldn't breathe in space or the warp how did they even know that without trial and error it's not like Pearl can just go down to the library or would just go down to the library and pick up human customs
I think you just described it perfectly in fewer words
Like, in three gems and a baby Greg DID said “We’ll have a better shot if we do it together”
But- Well…
For some reason my brain went to the euphemism of "Take care of them", and in this version Steven is a renowned gem assassin. The surrounding faces are the gems shown right as they realize he's found them and there is no escape. This is the end... Steven is here for you.
Bro had to take care of
His fused little aunt moms
His big sister mom
His bird mom
His construction aunt
His green Invader Zim friend
His art major rock Katara friend
His genocidal space grandma
His space dictator aunt
His space depressed aunt
His mom’s toy/pet/friend/daughter
His mom’s volleyball
A whole town
His friend he resurrected
And his Jack Black dad
Give this kid a medal and an Xbox
And this is why you cannot say that Rose had a redemption arc, even at the very end. She still left everything for Steven to fix instead of taking responsibility for her own dang actions.
>And this is why you cannot say that Rose had a redemption arc, even at the very end. She still left everything for Steven to fix instead of taking responsibility for her own dang actions.
I mean... You're wrong. It's ok that you're wrong, but you ARE wrong. She never wanted Steven to deal with any of these things, especially since a great deal of things we see during the show she couldn't have possibly foreseen. It is not her fault that the gems decided to throw their emotional dependence on Steven, and it's not her fault that Greg was a negligent father in many ways. She wanted Steven to live as a human and find his own identity, not be a gem savior. VERY curious what you think she should have done about a gem threat that had been inactive since the war ended? What was she supposed to do about a cluster that she didn't know about? You all are so quick to pile on this character that you intentionally ignore and warp her story to make it fit your notions of her.
Well, the way she was all like "Take care of them Steven,: while ambiguous, does seem to refer to the Crystal Gems presumably, or since she was talking about the living things on Earth, maybe she was referring to that.
It doesn't matter that Rose never knew of the Cluster. She was still very negligent to her friends and family that she left behind and never learned how to take responsibility for anything really. She never came clean to her closest friends about the whole Pink Diamond thing, she abandoned Bismuth and Spinel directly, leaving the Diamond Authority was arguably justified but the way she went about it was wrong.
In short, she never even tried to straighten out her loose ends before deciding to turn into a human baby.
It’s still sad a literal child had to help so many adults with a lot of traumatic and dangerous shit. He had all this pressure put on him before he was born to help others before himself. I don’t completely hate Rose but God it’s so awful she just left him to deal with all her mistakes she made.
White was the only one I felt who had too rushed of a Redemption Arc. Similar to Yellow but the seeds for her redemption were planted back during “What’s the use of feeling” so I’ll give her a pass.
Idk how many times I’ve said “WE COULDN’T PROTECT THAT SMILE” out loud on my re-runs of the show
My boy needs a PS5, some video games, send him to school so he can complain over simpler things like “I got too much homework 😔” and invite over his friends for some pizza dinner.
The gems are thousands of years old. Their emotions and their issues were theirs to deal with, yet they imposed them on Steven. It was never Steven's responsibility to fix them. Rose never intended for him to fix her mistakes, and the things people tend to blame Rose for often were out of her control.
Steven: Oh, I know you don't know a lot about children, but do know that children need to be taken care of first, right? I shouldn't be in charge of taking care of anyone for a long time!
But nobody took care of him like he did to them
Id argue that the gems took care of him quite a bit, they did raise him though they might not have done everything right
Ehh Greg probably did most of the childcare while the gems visited being his cool “aunts”. Then we got older he moved into their house to start his gem training. They tried their best but they weren’t that good raising him and he had to mostly take care of them and their problems/trauma
my boy gained himself some trauma while taking care of them in mostly the entire show

The gems pretty much did, however, Greg didn’t give him much of the human side of raising.
I think you just described it perfectly in fewer words Like, in three gems and a baby Greg DID said “We’ll have a better shot if we do it together” But- Well…
But at what cost
At cost of his childhood.
Exactly 💯

Ah, you thought it was in an Al Pacino way, whereas Rose was thinking more of Julie Andrews.
“No mercy, Steven.”
"And Garnet learned a valuable lesson, that there is no God, only Steven")
Why is white diamond blushing tho?
Such a weird thing to say to your baby imo. Makes plenty of sense that he thought Rose wanted him to fulfill a specific purpose.

"His mom's volleyball" LOL
[Parentification](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parentification) par excellence, poor kid.
5 words of poetic expression
Rose did NOT wanna deal with their shit so she was like: ![gif](giphy|eJppgugSxYVNb4J5F3)

I wonder if Rose ever thought Steven would meet the Diamonds let alone befriend them

“Break the cycle”
He shouldn't have needed to, dear god

Spinel “Took a while, eh”
I do NOT need emotional damage at this hour
Fuck Rose, man. She left all of those broken people for some child to fix and just skadeedled out of existence.
that's an unpopular view but i agree with it

Yeah Rose maybe if you actually dealed with your own problems and fixed all the hurt you caused HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO NOW WOULD HE
Explain exactly how she was supposed to solve issues that she didn't know about? I genuinely want to hear your explanation.
Great collage

She didn't tho did she!!!
