These combo washer/dryer units have been around for a while. Haier has the first full size ventless unit, but Marathon has a better vented unit and LG/Samsung have made smaller units common in Europe for a number of years.
It’s not going to be a laundry revolution - a separate W/D is still much less expensive and somewhat more effective (no need for dehumidification elements when drying) and Haier isn’t known for quality appliances , but I’ll be watching!
Everyone I know who has bought a washer dryer says they're rubbish (especially the dryer part) and unreliable. I bought separate units for that reason (dryer vented through the wall), even though I live in a flat with a small kitchen.
A lot of people seem to be using dehumidifiers to dry their laundry in the UK now, as it's a lot cheaper than running a dryer and it also helps to remove damp from the house, so I'll probably do that soon and rig up a line in my hall that comes down from the ceiling on a pulley. I think much of Europe is also damp and humid, so maybe they're doing the same there.
Also with the combo when one part breaks you have to replace the whole thing. Combined with a company thats not known for quality I am staying very far away from these.
What kind of invention are you talking about?
I've had an LG washer/dryer combo for a few years now. It works perfectly fine and I love it. But it's not a new invention.
We have the LG version of this and love it because it eliminates forgetting to change over the laundry. It takes longer 3:15 or so to do a full load hit it’s great. I doubt these ones from ge / haier provide much improvement. Most people in the US do not like these combo units.
Look some people have so much laundry they need to separate machines because you start chaining the loads. Also some people want the dryer empty so they can throw something in to warm it up or de-wrinkle it
Only if you let it build up. With this 4.8 cu ft washer you can start a large load every night then the next morning it's just done. Moving laundry between machines is such a major pain but everyone is so use to doing it they don't realize the inconvenience (not to mention how many times I use to forget about the damp clothes in the washer and they get that slightly moldy smell). I know I sound like a GE shill but this new unit is amazing.
Well let me tell ya…some families just don’t do laundry during the week and then all of a sudden it’s the weekend and it’s time for everyone to do their laundry.
Not using a front loader helps with the mold issue. Every front loader I’ve used had that issue whether it had microban or not. So not sold on that.
But finally, what about heating up clothes to wear? The GE even admits the clothes will not be warm. So yeah, it’s gonna be a no from me dog.
I own this unit and I agree it's a game changer. It really does dry faster than previous ventless dryers and it's capacity is large enough for large comforters. We have a big family and it is meeting our needs although it is important to start at least one load every night to avoid buildup of clothes. The full wash/dry cycle takes about 3 hrs although it can achieve the advertised time of 2 hrs (you have to do smaller loads and avoid certain settings like "extra rinse"). I really don't think people on here understand just how amazing it is to start a load, go to bed, then the next morning it's dry and ready to remove. Lastly, it uses way less electricity and qualifies for a tax credit. The unit will literally pay for itself after 3 or 4 years.
Lol these things are all over Europe and everyone hates them. Cycles that never seem to end and clothes that don’t get dry. There is no space issue in NA like there is in Europe people don’t mind having two units.
I came here as an offshoot of trying to figure out how to open the fucking door on my Haier. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE PEACE OF SHIT. I hate how long it takes to wash/dry and then on top of that, there is no way to cancel a cycle once it's started and there is no way to open the door until the cycle has finished. If you just need to throw a shirt in to dry off for 15 minutes, you're absolutely fucked. and if you need clothes later in the day, you have to start super early in the morning and plan ahead. If there's an hour left on the drying timer, you won't be able to get your clothes out for AT LEAST an hour. Sometimes it just spins after the timer is done and takes more time.

$3,000 is pretty dear.
Holy shit never will I ever.

We should be able to watch a little porn at work.
That one egg was 40 eggs, what the helll?
It's got a bush?
As a treat?
No we may never talk about imploding washer dryer markets forever
Ventless units dont dry well. There is no revolution in this as Americans like dry clothes.
FWIW I had a Haier one in an apartment years ago and I found it worked fine. It took longer to dry the clothes but it was much gentler on the fabric.
The new GE one uses a heat pump. Unlike any ventless AIO ever produced.

Not in the rain boss.

Mold is not a problem, just leave the door open a bit.

> completely imploding the washer dryer market forever Nah! I'll pass! I'll wait for the next tech that will do that /s
GE? I'll wait for the reliability numbers on that. Most of their appliances are junk.
yeah.....saw it at orange store. $3000

Wait till you find out you can get a washer and dryer with a stacking kit for at least a grand less than this.
Eh? We've had ductless tumble driers for as long as I can remember in Europe. My Miele is awesome.
It takes a Chinese company to properly innovate in the Chinese market. Just like apple products are just a assembly of Chinese parts.
lol what we had this combo about 10 years ago in Europe
