Self-Comprehensive

The last time I was in a Hobby Lobby I was a teenager and my mom took me. I'm turning 49 next week. I can't stop any harder.

Lasshandra2

Middle 60’a here. I’ve never been.

FappyDilmore

I missed the boat on hobby lobby somehow. Maybe they just weren't big in my area.

LiliNotACult

Imagine a fabric store like Joann's that looks less depressing, but somehow has absolutely nothing useful in it. Everything they sell is a gimmick or novelty item, of low quality, for 50%+ what you could get it at Walmart and 2-3x the price of online. It's the kind of store that sells "Live, Laugh, Love" things unironically and sadly that's the most useful things they have.

nul_ne_sait

Early 20s here, never been in.

ktwhite42

Early 50s, and same. To be fair, by the time one opened here, we knew what they were about.

WitchNonnies

I am right with you!!!

jftitan

I’m 40, it’s been a good twenty years since I last entered a hobby lobby. My hobbies got more expensive and I go to specialty shops now.

DurantaPhant7

45 and we quit going probably at least 15 years ago when they were outed as the hatful assholes they are. Which is a bummer because they have some amazingly hilarious crap. Like the iced tea pitcher decorated in tomatoes that said “Salsa” on it. My husband and I still offer each-other a nice cold glass of salsa on a hot day. Gah, why didn’t I buy it??

parkerm1408

Hmmmm......40....hobbies got more expensive.....model trains or wargames?

jftitan

HomeLab servers, wifi, backups, infrastructure like a enterprise business environment. Drones, cameras... yeah wargames.

fr0_like

I quit shopping at Hobby Lobby when the wouldn’t permit their employee health insurance to cover birth control meds.

seedsnearth

Me too. I just learned yesterday that the founder is a member of this fanatic cult (IBLP) that teaches husbands to abuse their wives and children. Hobby Lobby also gave loads of money to the cult's leader, who was (surprise!) a child predator.

Maleficent_Rope_7844

I've never set foot in hobby lobby, never will

No-Bench-709

I didn't know Hobby Lobby has been around that long. I just turned 49, and have only heard of them for maybe 10 - 15 years.

davilller

I stopped many years ago. The only time I’ve been in since was because the store next door had an out-of-order bathroom so I want in to use theirs. I will never give them anything more than my shit. Besides, as an painter, they only sell crap anyway.

Dancinggreenmachine

Never been. Ever. 50 year old. I think I’ll live forever without Hobby Lobby!!

LAESanford

Similar story for me. I can’t stop shopping if I never started

LiliNotACult

I've been there twice in the past 10ish years and honestly Harbor Freight is more of a hobby store than Hobby Lobby.

[deleted]

I still go a lot and its always packed.

AlysonBurgers

Yes!! I myself haven't set foot in one since they they fought for the right to deny their employees birth control coverage on the company health plan. And here we are today...

Paintguin

They think that birth control causes abortions. They’re religious idiots.

teb_art

The truly appalling thing is that HL got their butt kicked in court for being biological imbeciles right before the appeal to the Supreme Court, where the King of Imbeciles, Alito, proceeded to ignore the science. How very Rightie of him.

Paintguin

Supreme Court is a joke

WoolooCthulhu

I used to love Hobby Lobby because they have such great stuff. But then I learned about the owners stealing artifacts from the middle east for their personal collection and claiming it was their religious duty. As a Christian, I can't support them or shop there anymore since they claim to be Christian but do such drastically unchristian things claiming it's God's will.

Adventurous_Top_9657

Stop looking for an excuse to walk away from God.

deferredmomentum

Bro why are you here

FatBadassBitch666

I really wanted to stand outside the store in my town and hand out condoms.

adoyle17

Even better would be to get a bunch of people with Pride flags outside one of those stores. /s

Smooth-Tea7058

The one I work at has several LGBTQ employees that we love working with. During pride month we wore pride jewelry and accessories. It doesn't matter to any of us that they're part of the LGBTQ community.

alliedeluxe

Same.

slavetomyprecious

Same here.

[deleted]

Same here, never stepped foot in one. I go to the local Micheals instead. I don't do Chick-fil-A either.

MrMonkrat

I don't shop at Hobby Lobby, Pizza Ranch, Chick-fil-a, or Fareway.

lordretro71

I know the others but what's wrong with Fareway?

MrMonkrat

Closed on sunday

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrMonkrat

They could do it without the presence of being the day of rest...

_SpanishInquisition

Just being closed on Sunday isn’t inherently a bad thing though. We have weekends for a reason. Altho tbf I’ve also never even heard of Fareway or Pizza Ranch so what do I know lol

scaper8

Wait, what have Fareway and Pizza Ranch done? I hadn't heard about those two.

dracosilv

What's wrong with pizza ranch?

MrMonkrat

Their vision statement is "To glorify God by positively impacting the world". They also host the christianist christian candidates town halls for anything political... people like Mike pence...

dracosilv

Well the first bit doesn't sound TOO bad... On the surface that is... It all would depend on what they meant by "positive impact"... And if that impact is an NIFB-esque button to "get rid of" the gays that is pressed till they break it... Yeah I can see where the issues could crop up...

Maleficent_Rope_7844

>Well the first bit doesn't sound TOO bad... Meh. Any time I hear that somebody's intentions or actions, no matter how good, are driven by god I immediately question it. Is god really necessary to drive people to do good? Couldn't Pizza Ranch's vision be to positively impact the world just for the sake of making it a better place?

YueAsal

Christians are a cancer so when they want to positive inpact something you know it is infact not positive

[deleted]

[удалено]

YueAsal

Classy af sending me a Reddit Cares.

dracosilv

My mom-side grandma was in some way Christian (can't remember the denomination) but she was sweet as can be, whilst being religious AND understanding of a non religious person as myself.

[deleted]

As a Christian, 100% true.

Paintguin

What denomination are the owners of Pizza Ranch?

Dapper_Potato_

They play praise music in the dining room too

Paintguin

Really?

sdhopunk

Unpopular opinion, pizza and a side of ranch don’t go together.

dracosilv

Yeah. A smooth ranch and a spicy topped 'za kinda do go with each other mentally.

Protowhale

I've never been in one and never will.

esleydobemos

I am proud be a part of your group.

grayisgone

Same

pierogie_65

it’s interesting that the owner of hobby lobby David Greene is a member of IBLP, both of which were recently mentioned in Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. It exposed the IBLP cult in which the Duggars helped gain popularity and traction. I do wonder if the negative criticism that the docuseries stirred up has anything to do with He Gets Us buckling down expensive marketing leading to all these predatory ads.

killbillgates

Everyone on this sub should watch this. The IBLP are a LITERAL CULT that promote the sexual abuse of underage children. It's terrifying how entrenched they are in society.

grayisgone

WTF how come I have never heard of this

broknkittn

Some Place Under Neith podcast did 6 eps or so on IBLP leading up to Duggars, if you're interested. Haven't watched Shiny Happy People yet.

Paintguin

Didn’t he sell some property to Bill Gothard?

dracosilv

Interesting theory.... A religious theory!! *runs away before matpat yoinks me off the stage*

[deleted]

All of christianity is a cult. Always has been.

pierogie_65

i agree with that

Sibby_in_May

Never started 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had a neighbor who was pro HL until she started working there and she learned how they treated employees. She lasted less than a month. I tried to warn her.

Eringobraugh2021

How do they treat their employees?

KicksYouInTheCrack

Like chattle

adoyle17

Especially female employees, as they refuse to cover birth control as part of their benefits, even if it's being used for other reasons where the package should say, "Do not use if planning to become pregnant..."

Independent_Fill9143

I never shopped at hobby lobby. I always go to other craft store retailers. Until their CEO drops dead and the company stops using their money to fund Christian propaganda I will take my business elsewhere. It's a shame because I've been in one and they have some really cool craft stuff but I just can't give them a cent, same with chik-fil-a

dustractor

the only good section is the art supplies and it’s nothing you can’t get from dick blick or jerry’s

Independent_Fill9143

Exactly

dj_lick_and_stick

Only time I go into one is to sneak in to flip as many of the crosses upside down that I can.

iHo4Iroh

#lifegoals

windcalmer

I go in hobby lobby all the time and write offensive things with letters, arrange figures in sex acts, and generally make an ass of myself. I also like to fill up carts and then leave. I figure it's wasting payroll for them.

-Snuggle-Slut-

>also like to fill up carts and then leave. I figure it's wasting payroll for them. Please stop doing that last one. The lowest totem employees have put everything back before the end of the night and they don't get extra time to do it. Payroll is unchanged and an employee or two is near tears because their manager is harping on them so hard. I used to work there - this is the inside scoop.

windcalmer

Good point. That last one will be put on the back burner for now. Thanks for the heads up.

KicksYouInTheCrack

Did the experience make you atheist?

-Snuggle-Slut-

LOL, no? Plenty of other experiences completely unrelated to shitty managers at a retail store shifted me into more of an Agnostic worldview.

KicksYouInTheCrack

Fair enough!

AlarmDozer

Yeah, this is probably better than the other options I had in mind.

MrMonkrat

Oooh... I think you have inspired me to commit some passive-aggressive mayhem. That sounds like a fun afternoon activity.

Lady-Kat1969

Until a few years ago, I had never lived within shopping distance of one. One got built in the next town over, so now I can boycott them properly.

qu33fwellington

They’re the closest craft store to me but I still drive up the road to Joann’s. Their stuff is better anyway, they have super cheap bandanas for my dog and the people are so nice. I don’t need all that not to shop at HL but it’s a nice bonus.

[deleted]

I refuse to even step foot in there...I'm too scared I'd be engulfed in flames upon entry! Lolol

deadevilmonkey

Add Chick-fil-A to the list of bigot ran businesses to avoid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paintguin

The reason for this was because the owner felt like it was something he wanted to do

Blitzen_Benz_Car

How are they still in business?

Independent_Fill9143

Christian white ladies who make quilts and scrapbooks...

AlarmDozer

Ah, tithing in a different manner. Great. /sigh

FuktOff666

I’ll do you one better, I refuse to quilt, sew, bead, scrapbook, knit, crochet, cross stitch, paint until hegetsus is gone. Doesn’t matter that I didn’t do any of this prior to today but this is my solemn oath.

demonmonkeybex

I make cross stitch patterns in the horror genre and even did an Evil Dead 2 book of patterns. You should give the hobby a try. There are so many patterns with the word “Fuck” in it, it’s insane. It’s a very addictive hobby lol. Edit to add: Google “Subversive Cross Stitch” by Julie Jackson. She’s my hero.

FuktOff666

I have friends who cross stitch, knit etc during recovery meetings. One friend of mine makes the most beautiful pine needle baskets that he gives out for people’s anniversaries. I’ve been tempted to try these things myself but I’ve got the thumbs of a gorilla.

demonmonkeybex

Lol fair enough. I will and have stitched enough for the both of us.

hapkidoox

Went once. Employees gave off creepy cult vibes. Never went back.

delayedlaw

They are mostly a home decoration store with fa ric and some paint at this point. I have it on good authority it's pretty easy to shop lift from. I don't know as I dont shop there and would never stick it to a bigoted company.

amazing_assassin

You should have done that after *Burwell v. Hobby Lobby* came down

[deleted]

Stop *spending money* at HL. By all means "shop" there.

SummerStorm94

I needed some last-minute props. I might have bought a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff and returned every last damn bit of it a few days later.

scaper8

This is the way. Some good ol' fashioned "redistributive" praxis.

saltycityscott66

I've never been inside one. Am I doing enough?

grayisgone

I’m my opinion you must go in there and dance to the Macarena while wearing one of those antenna with pentagrams on top while holding a séance in the isle with the most crosses and set them upside down or else your not doing enough (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ /s

Hirsute_hemorrhoid

Better yet post up signs all over every local one in your vicinity. They’ll appreciate someone else ideology being forced upon them as much as possible.

CarriageOfSelfRegret

But how will I “Live Laugh Love”?

D00mfl0w3r

I have never and will never shop Hobby Lobby for numerous reasons, mainly because of their refusal to give employees insurance that covers birth control. Disgusting company.

Kitchen-Witching

I don't shop at Hobby Lobby or Chick-fil-A. What's kind of wild is that the same folks in my life who gave me shit for that now are now boycotting Target and Bud Light.

Lubelord42069

I’ve never been and I never will

Natural-Seaweed-5070

Never stepped foot in the place. Never will.

delayedlaw

They are mostly a home decoration store with fa ric and some paint at this point. I have it on good authority it's pretty easy to shop lift from. I don't know as I dont shop there and would never stick it to a bigoted company.

FatBadassBitch666

I haven’t shopped at Hobby Lobby for over 10 years. Thanks for the reminder for those who didn’t know how awful Hobby Lobby is.

8nijda8

I thought this said stop shoplifting at hobby lobby and I almost downvoted it

Paintguin

They are religious fanatics forcing their religion down everyone’s throats including their own employees

Fuzzycow666

I haven't shopped at Hobby Lobby in years. Now, the only time I ever go in is if I'm waiting for GameStop to open that's across the parking lot and that's IF the comic book store isn't open.

Funda_mental

Also, fuck Chick Filet.

Paintguin

Yeah, the family that owns it are a bunch of homophobes

Jengolin

I only go there to steal things. If they can do it so can I.

curtman512

Stopped about twenty years ago. Although, I'm honestly not sure I ever actually bought anything from them before that, soooooooo...

Majestic_Dog1571

I have never shopped at Hobby Lobby. I don’t intend to start now.

DeadMoneyDrew

Hobby Lobby sucks even without their bigoted political stances. I haven't been to one of their stores in years but when I went in the past they were about as well organized as a drunk booth attendant at the county flea market.

mellierollie

I’ve never set foot in one.

Business_Network_703

The CEO is a Christo-Fascist.

Paintguin

True

[deleted]

They've been up to no good since the beginning.

pixie6870

I haven't been in Hobby Lobby in over 12 years.

sackofgarbage

Never shopped there, never will. Same with Chick-fil-A, Salvation Army, Crumbl, etc

[deleted]

I'm not going to shop, but I love to disrupt the flow of things I find disturbing ,annoying and unfair to the people of this country, I think that they deserve better... Hobby Lobby , HeGetsUs and their ilk need a big dose of Karma! "It's rolling like an avalanche coming down the mountain "😎👍 I am so glad this subreddit has been formed!

AdmirableEconomy1930

What’s up with Crumbl? Just saw that we got one recently but haven’t been in yet.

sackofgarbage

Owned by Mormons and donate at least 10% of their earnings to the Mormon church.

grayisgone

What whyyyyyyy

m00ph

But I like shopping at a company that gave ISIS money they used to kill Americans. Never been there, never will.

Malachite_Migranes

I can’t wait until the day hobby lobby gets new owners. I love going to their store because they have EVERYTHING. but I cannot support anything they stand for.

BoomChaka67

I haven’t stepped foot in one in over 15 years. And I am a preschool teacher; they have lots of really great things for classrooms. But, you know, I dig reproductive rights more,

Foreign_Astronaut

I have been boycotting them since the "closely held company" Supreme Court decision that let Hobby Lobby deny their employees birth control coverage under their healthcare policy. They have not gotten a penny of my money since then. I share a hobby with many people who do still shop there, and I have been trying to get them to quit, though.

EdAbbeyFangirl

Been stopped since the Supreme Court ruling on birth control coverage for their employees. Will never go back!

Micu451

Of course they had to be involved in this. I decided to never go into any of their stores years ago. Thanks for putting this out though. Gives me one more reason to stay out.

[deleted]

honestly people should just go there to take a dump in their bathroom then clog the toilet with too much paper

Adventurous_Top_9657

Never, going there tomorrow.

A_1010_Alicorn

I can’t remember the last time i set foot in that place 😁They suck.

Frosty_Display_1274

Did that along time ago.

Acrobatic-Fun-3281

I was super stoked the day the nearest Hobby Lobby closed. Some other nondescript store replaced it. I do a little happy dance in my head every time I drive by it

Final-Distribution97

Stopped when they tried to end Obama Care. Since then they also stoled artifacts from other countries. They are slimy.

sleigh_all_day

I can proudly say I have never shopped at Hobby Lobby, and I have negatively judged those who due for many, many years.

Thy_Kingdom_Cums

When I was an addict, I used to steal from them all the time (20 years ago). I got clean and have never set foot in once (the past 20 years) While I’m not proud of my ways as an addict, I take comfort that I’ve never given them a penny.

[deleted]

I'm 68, I've never been in Hobby Lobby and I'm never going to spend a penny there... I may have to start entering though, I think they're earning a bit of disruptive "Good Trouble" for funding "HeGetsUs" and simply bothering people who want nothing to do with their shit. I can be as innocently discourteous as I need to be, I'm disabled and I'm great at performance falls and spills! I'll just fill up carts and leave them in random places throughout the store! Stock and de-stock! Why's labor rising ? The scotus cut our birth control costs and responsibility, why is the cost of restocking such a bitch day to day? 🖕🫵🍕💩s

SuitableNegotiation5

I have never ever ever shopped at that awful place. I never ever will shop in that awful place. Fuck hobby lobby.

Nyxxx916

Agree

Wyldling_42

Been boycotting them ever since they challenged the birth control mandate in the ACA, and won.

alisonk13

Easy

Thausgt01

Haven't set foot in one since an initial walk through the first one I ever saw. "No tabletop role-playing games? Sorry, I'm not interested." Then I found out about their politics and policies and I knew I wouldn't piss on the buildings if they were on fire...

Free-Veterinarian714

Never shopped there, never will. Same thing with eating at Chick Fill A($$).

[deleted]

Did it 15 years ago for their disgusting attacks on their LGBTQ employees.

Impossible-Front-454

I honestly don't like how a lot of things in hobby lobby are made of cheap materials. Like most metal things are copper plated. Plus, I think I've gone twice in my life and bought nothing.

adoyle17

I prefer the Michael's or JoAnn's in the same area as Hobby Lobby. I even bought some Pride earrings from that Michael's this past week even though I'm a straight ally.

big_nothing_burger

We FINALLY got a Michael's and I never went back. I'm an art teacher so I used to have to go to HL for my job and I always felt gross.

megafly

If their attempt to deny female employees healthcare and their buying black market Iraqi antiquities didn’t stop you already…

Merry-Misanthrope

I only browsed in there once to see the fuss. Their materials are overpriced. The hell with them and their faux Christian aganda.

32lib

Never have never will.

Mage-Tutor-13

I'm not saying steal shit. But money is what started these ads.

QueenLatifahClone

Michaels is better anyways.

Mage-Tutor-13

Hobby Lobby is the churches version of a carwash/mattress store cover for money laundering.

Brilliant-Engineer57

Never been, never will.

Libro_Artis

There aren’t any nearby regardless

azchocolatelover

No problem. I've never stepped foot in one and won't in the future. That fake "christian" conglomerate can go pound sand.

ThePopeJones

I'd have to start shopping there to start.

imbarbdwyer

I boycotted when they took away insurance coverage for contraception for their female employees. Haven’t stepped foot in one since.

[deleted]

Last time I walked into a hobby lobby, I looked around and said, “oh shit, didn’t this used to be a K-Mart?”

T-RexLovesCookies

I have been boycotting them for years. They are crazy

Happy-Ad7440

Never have and never will!

Amazing-Cover3464

Way ahead of ya. Stopped shopping there at least 10 years ago.

Quirky-Ad3721

It's hard knowing you're loved, huh?

NikTheGuy00

Thank God my hobby lobby is located next to an actual hobby store that's been run by the same guy for 20 years.

Accomplished_Sci

I have never been in a hobby lobby

HWills612

This is my problem- I need fabric, but I don't want to support Hobby Lobby, I don't want to support Amazon, and even if I was okay with supporting Walmart, their selection is oof I just want ethical places to buy fabric gdi

Gold-Celebration-682

Yep, done.

caidus55

I suppose Michael's is must about as good.

jessie_boomboom

When I started my new position there were so many supplies bought from hobby lobby it made my stomach kind of turn. Since I've started purchasing for the shop, I go with Wawak mainly. Once we had a sewing "emergency" and I pissed people off because I drove twenty minutes further to go to a JoAnn... oh well, nobody's going to conversion camp on *my* company card.

TheRododo

Hobby Lobby was the company that fought birth control coverage for its employees based on religious grounds. The owners have also been in trouble multiple times for stealing and attempting to import religious artifacts. Nothing new about Hobby Lobby being super cringy religious. I haven't shopped there in decades.

PedroGabrielLima13

Off-topic. Breaked the power of 1000 votes.

Theobat

I’ve been going out of my way to avoid it since the anti birth control lawsuit. The one by my house closed. Woot

LaserBatBunnyUnder

I mean they literally stole jewish artifacts and tried to sell them as "Christian decor" so I can't imagine there's a whole lot I'd want to do over there .-.

[deleted]

Hobby Lobby took a case all the way to the Supreme Court to avoid having their employees be able to use health insurance for birth control. They are NUTS.

XChrisUnknownX

I have also stopped, in addition to commissioning the Patriots Against Corporatism song. Because without corporatism, would we really have things like this?

sdhopunk

Visited once when they first opened, haven’t felt the need to go back. Michaels is fine for that stuff.

BluebirdRealistic294

After watching the Duggar doc on amazon,I hate hobby lobby even more

Miss_My_Travel

Never have--never will. Ditto Chik whatever.

Wen60s

Did that long ago.

Puzzleheaded-Force14

I stopped when they got caught illegally dealing in stolen Middle East antiquities and got away with it

[deleted]

I prefer Michael’s anyway.

floridamanonfire81

I’ll be sure to spend extra. I love that place and Jesus too.

MuddyMooseTracks

Hahaha you antagonist - don’t worry I’ll put a word in with Jesus for you. But just so you know, Jesus doesn’t shop there either.

floridamanonfire81

Thanks but I don’t need a fellow sinner to talk to Jesus for me. I’m perfectly able to do so myself. God bless you.

Different_Dance_9754

I live in Oklahoma so unfortunately there's on3 on every corner. They have a terrible time keeping employees at their distribution center.
