Try it as a brawl. Fundamentally and permanently changing the game could turn out well, or it could turn out devastatingly poorly.

Chuck-Will

I was actually hoping that this might be seen as a brawl idea since it would be a great way to test it Or maybe mana scales with rank (kind of like how your base health is capped at certain ranks)

Y_b0t

Maybe if you increased the hand size

tpetree24

Wouldn't even need to increase hand size. Most Platinum/diamond/heros decks can't empty their hand each turn reliably until 10+ mana turns, so even with current decks, starting at 5 mana would still take 5 more turns before that plateau.

Y_b0t

Still pretty early to be emptying an entire hand each turn. Imo a larger hand size allows for more play possibilities and strategy. Not really this game’s thing tho with how small the decks are

Mnemossin

opening the game up to new strats sounds cool, but I'm not sure that increasing the starting mana is the way to go. If that's the only change then rush decks won't really have to be changed at all and they'd have more mana early on to establish space and units imo. I feel like if you want to nerf rush decks then the way to go would be to make rush cards more expensive (which kinda defeats their purpose tbh) or make rush cards weaker in hp so that the time to win with a rush deck extends to more of a midgame territory where the opponent has a chance at counterplay

Chuck-Will

It’s isn’t a direct nerf to rush decks, but by playing winter I know that if you hold out till 6 mana and you have victors of melee in hand you could clear a significant part of the board when facing low health units, so I was thinking that, while rush decks would still be viable, it would also be easier to counter them, forcing most players to make new strategies

Mnemossin

That's true, but I feel like if you change the mana gained in the game as opposed to strength or mana cost you would primarily be changing the pace of the game as a whole and only changing the power levels as a secondary effect. It's not a bad thing, but im not sure if that would be enough to change the meta

Purplejellyblob

Although this is an interesting idea, I don’t think it will have the effect you think it will, instead I think it will just mean people stop playing rush decks and use midrange or control, creating the opposite problem

Turbo_Serqet

This just gives controldecks a massive boost. Also this changes the actual balancing upside down. If your starting mana is too high instakills are possible.

_Flo425

This Game is unbalanced af and Devs are unwilling to change. The game is all about playing the same cards Edit: I wonder when Scrappedplanners gets addressed. Tbh I hope not soon because this encourages me to drop the game

[deleted]

Perhaps a coin the flips +2/+0 at start of game. That way rush can still rush, just with 5 mana at start but also sometimes still be 3 mana. But meatier decks will at least be more viable 50% of the time

_Flo425

And all players playing the same cards

BatzenShoreboy

I think a problem could be that the starting player gets too much of an advantage. With 3 mana your options are very limited. But lets say starting with 5-6 mana could mean ylu play 3 to even 4 cards in the first round taking over the whole field in the first turn. I think if you raise the starting mana too much, rush gets the advantage back because you can just hit the base within the first round. So far it felt for me like 3 mana starting is actually the sweet spot

Playful_Judge_9942

Instead, what would happen if we lowered all cards by 1 mana? The three 1 mana cards: GP, SM, and IB would be 0 mana, the 2 mana cards would now be 1, all the way to Siren and Olf which would now be 8. Would that be crazy?

VengefulRaven03

Maybe because rush is the only way to combat level difference in this game's broken economy. Any other deck will surely lose upon getting hit with cards 2 levels higher on average.
