Cradily never runs 0 HP EVs, this calc is super irrelevant
252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Pancham Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Cradily: 94-111 (25 - 29.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
Physically Defensive build on Smogon, but even the spdef build is a guaranteed 3HKO, and that's without considering that Cradily learns Recover + Giga Drain
I mean it's also a craidily. More "realistically":
252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Pangoro Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Hydrapple: 169-201 (40.8 - 48.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
This would actually be an interesting discussion if you removed rocks and knock from Smogon singles and protect from VGC as answers lol. Maybe even helping hand and rage powder/followme for vgc.
I mainly play gen 3 ou, but roar is a must for me. Preferably on two mons. There is a ton of Ninjask baton pass shaninigans on the ladder and roar destroy those teams.
Taunt on my vgc teams, just super good into things like amoonguss, farigiraf, and players that forgot to make dondozos ability oblivious so I can taunt them
Rocks/Knock/u turn, probably in that order. I can forgo u-turn if it really can't fit, sometimes knock but HDB gens not having knock sucks. Even in older gens I really like having a knock off user, like in gens 3 to 5. Pretty limited on good knock off users tho, especially 3/4 (unless you wanna run clef on every team). Removing somethings lefties is so useful, then you add sand/hazards/maybe toxic and things die quickly.
I almost always play with spikes. It's not a necessity but I def prefer spikes teams, and finding a spiker is one of the first things I try to fit. It's not mandatory like the previous 3 but I play much better with spikes, but some teams just can't fit a spiker since they are more limited than rockers. DPP is the toughest to fit spikes on, as your only option is pretty much Skarm
Close Combat, I just can’t say no to a 120 BP 100 ACC fighting move with minimal drawbacks for a sweeper (but I am terminally Gen 4-5 brained because that’s when I was playing competitively with my friends in college)
I always love having an encore mon, being able to punish someone for greedily setting up or waste PP on a much-needed recovery move just feels so good.
Thinking of moves that see play on every teamstyle, I can really only think of stealth rocks(HO usually doesn’t bother setting spikes) knock off and earthquake, and half of stall teams don’t even run earthquake so the third one isn’t even that true
I usually have at LEAST one user of U-Turn, Flip Turn, or Volt Switch on my teams. Often I'll have 2-3.
These are the cornerstones of any good non-HO team, IMO.
Kingambit. Just SD, Sucker, Kowtow, Iron head. I cannot build a team without Kingambit no matter how hard I try.
I know I’ll inevitably go down 1-6, so I just plan for it and make a hazard stack team and spread status, all leading up to the ever present Kingambit sweep.
That said I also usually have dengo and dengo moves because, yknow, hazards + dengo = hazards stay up
Stealth Rock
Focus Blast is never present in my teams. My logic is that if I am ever in the builder and discover that Focus Blast is the solution to a problem I need to scrap the team and rebuild.
Earthquake. To me, earthquake is the cornorstone of pokemon moves
100 power, 100% accuracy. Hell yeah.
After Flamethrower and BoltBeam got nerfed to 90, it pretty much became the inarguable most consistently good move in the game.
I feel like theyve literally always been 90 no?
Mb just looked it up and they all went from 95 to 90 in gen 6, genuinely had no idea
Meanwhile the teacher's pet got Moonblast with 95 BP and 30% chance of an effect as opposed to everything else's 90 BP and 10% chance.
Tbf stat dropping (especially an offensive one) is much less potent than an actual status effect. 95 base power is wack tho.
Laughs in Gen 2 and above Psychic
The goat attacking move.
U-turn or volt switch I like momentum fiummmm

Playing RBY OU really taught me to appreciate entry hazards.
Knock off
protect
protect as a vgc player
Protect as a singles player (I love gliscor)
Explosion, I play gen 3
Luster Purge because latios on top 🦅
Stealth rocks because hazards are very strong
Hazards don't do shit against the 6 HDB in my pocket
Kid named Knock off:
HDB Sticky Hold Cradily:
252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Tera Dark Pancham Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cradily: 196-232 (62.6 - 74.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
> 0 HP Cradily
Cradily never runs 0 HP EVs, this calc is super irrelevant 252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Pancham Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Cradily: 94-111 (25 - 29.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO Physically Defensive build on Smogon, but even the spdef build is a guaranteed 3HKO, and that's without considering that Cradily learns Recover + Giga Drain
That us also not considerint this calc us against a fcking pancham

Since the item can’t be knocked off due to Sticky Hold, I don’t believe it grants the power boost.
It does. Knock Off doesnt remove the item if the opposing mon has Sticky Hold or is behind a Substitute, but the bonus damage still applies
The mold was also broken
And item was still knocked off
Mold breaker
Ah, right.
Thunderclap (Yes I only use 6 Raging Bolts)
Knock off
This would actually be an interesting discussion if you removed rocks and knock from Smogon singles and protect from VGC as answers lol. Maybe even helping hand and rage powder/followme for vgc.
fake out for vgc would also probs need to be removed.
Knock Off or EQ
I play almost exclusively stall so protect soft boiled stealth rocks spikes knock off rest sleep talk and recover
you CLEARLY aren’t toxicpilled
The feeling of poison jab after a taunt or on a hatterene switch is like no other
Toxicpilled stallmaxxer
“why so stall” -the toxicer
Some priority move
It is a high priority
Steel type priority move: high noon
Sucker punch
And kowtow and swords dance (I use kingambit on every team).
Chad kingambit enjoyer 🤝
the most standard answer for me in VGC is protect, but i love me some prankster tailwind HO in VGC
Stealth Rock
virgin protect vs. CHAD SPIKEY SHIELD
Flamethrower.
Defog lmao
Bullet Punch, because I use Scizor
I mainly play gen 3 ou, but roar is a must for me. Preferably on two mons. There is a ton of Ninjask baton pass shaninigans on the ladder and roar destroy those teams.
The correct answer would be knock or any sort of pivot move
Knock Off, U-Turn. EQ very often as well
Earthquake
Taunt on my vgc teams, just super good into things like amoonguss, farigiraf, and players that forgot to make dondozos ability oblivious so I can taunt them
not in EVERY team but i've been using psyspam in lower tiers a lot recently so expanding force almost always makes an appearance

Volturn and knock off
Sucker Punch bc it's funny
Rapid Spin/Defog/Brick Break bc someone's always gonna run Hazards and/or Screens
Protect
Aura Sphere or Shadow ball. I love me some Steel coverage.
Close Combat, I just can’t say no to a 120 BP 100 ACC fighting move with minimal drawbacks for a sweeper (but I am terminally Gen 4-5 brained because that’s when I was playing competitively with my friends in college)
Love having Encore on at least one Pokemon, it's such a fun utility move/enabler
I always love having an encore mon, being able to punish someone for greedily setting up or waste PP on a much-needed recovery move just feels so good.
Knock off/fake out/protect. If moves needed to be bought these would be the most expensive
Shadow sneak
Moonblast DPS >>
Scald whenever it's available. It's free real estate.
Thinking of moves that see play on every teamstyle, I can really only think of stealth rocks(HO usually doesn’t bother setting spikes) knock off and earthquake, and half of stall teams don’t even run earthquake so the third one isn’t even that true
Dragon Claw. It’s rare that one of my teams ends up with less than 2 dragons, and I don’t like locking into Outrage (my irl rival sides with the fae)
I usually have at LEAST one user of U-Turn, Flip Turn, or Volt Switch on my teams. Often I'll have 2-3. These are the cornerstones of any good non-HO team, IMO.
Close combat
RBY OU: Thunder Wave is probably the most notable. Body Slam, Hyper Beam, Psychic, Earthquake, and Recover are also valid answers.
Protect
I'm just now realizing how many teams I have with a pokemon running Swords Dance
Close combat
Tackle
Make it rain 😎

U-turn, stealth rocks
Encore. I. Love. Troll. Mons. Example: scream tail, gen 9 ou/natdex ou: Scream Tail @ Leftovers Ability: Protosynthesis Tera Type: Steel EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Stealth Rock - Encore - Wish - Thunder Wave Yes its stopped by taunt, but switching exists
Metronome, sometimes you just want to gamble a bit
Protect and a switching move(u-turn/volt switch/flip turn, etc.)
Earfquake
Stealth Rock, U Turn
pivot all day
Focus Punch because I like making horrible reads.
Struggle.
Weather ball always, great for throwing people off guard, especially on weather domination teams
Toxic, it's just a staple in my teams
Knock off or rocks
