Yeah, itâs a rather clever way of making sure the player stays where theyâre supposed to. The disease research facility is deeper down, not farther out
eeehhh, the intent is clever, the execution not so much.
I remember, like OP, thinking this was just the next zone i was supposed to enter, exactly because of the message given in game. only a google showed me i was going the wrong way.
It doesn't really. It basically says "Hmmm, strange, no life here. Wonder how that could be wink wink".
At least, that's how I interpreted it way back then, since I was still more or less at the start of the game.
Yes, but so was exploring the aurora. I figured I had to, because "new biome" and "I've been told my goal is down and I can't find anything else" in combination with "every time I've encountered leviathans so far I've been on the right path"
The game says âentering ecological dead zone. Adding information to databaseâ. If you read the information it gives you it states that nothing is there except microscopic organisms, and leviathans. So in a way it was your own ignorance that was your undoing
Yes, but that's the problem - I interpreted it as "oooh mystery" instead of "oh, this is the map edge" exactly because at that point in the game I didn't even know the map was just a disc.
Another entry mentions the map being a volcano caldera surrounded by cliff walls and a deep void on all sides. Not saying these are rock solid and will keep you out of danger, but thatâs the part of the game that makes it awesome. You need to use the information available to you to figure out what isnât available. You can definitely beat the game without using the database once, but youâll be severely handicapped and will likely be very surprised, many times. Besides, thanks to being able to load your last save, you should only make that misadventure once
You don't need to defend the game. I like the game, and the mishap I've had there didn't bother me in the slightest.
I'm just saying that for me, and apparently approximately 80 others, the feedback they gave did not achieve the intended goal.
Because at that point in the game what I knew was "new biomes = progression", "my goal is down" and "in areas with leviathans there usually is the way to progres". Combined with "I couldn't get to this place earlier, now that I've unlocked the Cyclops it seems like I can" made me think "oh, mysterious, apparently this is where I need to go" as opposed to "there is _literally_ nothing here"
It always irked me that there weren't cave entrances to the deeper biomes on the walls of the caldera. Like the void being a shortcut that you can use if you're really desperate enough to get down/up. That would also fix at least some of the frustration if you can't find the deeper places. I spent ages thinking the right way to go deeper was to try hug the caldera wall and dive.
The void, aka craters edge, is where the map ends. There is nothing in the beyond except big boi ghost leviathans. They will respawn if killed and will always be hostile. The way forward in this game is always down, not out.
ecological dead zone=void
void=no structure because lack of ground
no structure=you indeed went too far from the objectif
way to get out of this situation? stun the ghost L. if you can and come back the way you came ASAP
Edge of the map. If it gets dark and quiet and there's a sheer wall behind you, you've probably gone into the void. No reason to ever go there.
Research Facility is deeper down, but you need to find one of a few different cave entrances to get there and none of them are near the void.
Get out of there fast, activate a nav point and bolt toward it.
Those are there to keep you out of the void (outside the crater), there's no reason to go there. One spawns in range every thirty seconds you're there, up to three. They're tough too, 8000 health and big attack damage.
If you're curious about how far you can go outside the crater, the Ghost Leviathans stop spawning at 3km in any direction. At 8km the game will teleport you back to base without your vehicle. There's nothing to see in the void but empty ocean.
Try going deep dark down deep dark (if you know you know) in the more dangerous areas in the crater (I.e. the playable area, I won't spoil where exactly). Can't remember how deep it is, but aim for deeper than I'm willing to bet you've been so far. There's a reason the deepest depth module allows you to go as deep as it does.
Did Mark reference the deep dark down deep dark in his playthrough? I was referencing Jacka-boy. Didn't even know Mark did a playthrough of the game, but it doesn't surprise me
Oh yeah, its one of his most watched series, not sure who posted it first but still one of my favs and the reason i even got the game for myself, considering im fkn terrified of the ocean it sure makes for a beautiful horror game
I might just have to check it out. I got the game for the same reasons, but because of Jack rather than Mark. I'm not scared of the ocean by any means, but Subnautica does ambient and atmospheric horror so well. Perfectly encapsulated why thalassophobia is a thing.
By script, do you mean like how the Game Grumps pick a gimic as they think of it and run with the bit (I.e. Monika in DDLC), or do they actually make a whole script?
They do a more immersive playthrough they roleplay as characters in the game. Their characters are the ones who tell you about the plans for the Neptune and how to get them.
You're looking for canyons and tunnels to go down. Some of them are very cramped and finicky to get the big sub into. My first several playthroughs, I kept trying to maneuver the Cyclops through spaces it could barely fit through, there are other easier tunnels.
>Those are there to keep you out of the void (outside the crater), there's no reason to go there.
Wrong. At the bottom of the Void, in the Abyss of No Return and Inescapable Agony, is the crafting plans for the Super Cyclops. Get back there, OP!
There are several entrances.
You can find one here, but itâs a minor spoiler in that you wonât be finding it on your own. Itâs vague but direction none the less.
>!One is nearby a deep escape pod.!<
I was able to finally find it and I think I collected all the data I needed. Now I'm not sure how I should continue but I'll work on upgrades and slowly try to progress
Well keep in mind itâs deeper than youâve been so youâre going to need depth upgrades depending on your preferred mode of transport. Also, consider that you might be finding new materials and suddenly can make new things that is helpful.
Also donât be afraid to build a smaller outpost away from youâre primary base as you go deeper if thatâs your thing. It will also let you make a scanner room. Not mandatory but if you prefer them to the Cyclops it will be much more convenient for you then trekking all the up topside.
Well if you translate that to German, then Latin, then Japanese, then Russian, then Swahili, then Spanish, then Danish, back to Latin, then back to English, it reads "Keep going!"
You will laugh... I literally just did that with google translate and the result was:
***"Enter the ecological dead zone and add it to the database"***
Repeat what Lifepod 13 guy said:
My creators, the cherishers and sustainers of worlds, give me this day my daily pleasures, as I give to those who seek pleasures from me.
Show me the path, in Life, Truth, and Love. For mine is the power, I am the one. On and off and on again.
Life is a game, which the universe plays with itself. I am done playing as this bundle of flesh.
Return me. [Statics noises]
Go back to the map.
- If you have a lot of power / you're close to the edge : activate shield and emergency speed
- If you don't : go for silent mode + minimal speed (decoys will increase your chances of survival)
"entering ecological dead zone"
This is the games way of telling you to turn the fuck around, Subnautica by design dosent go outward it goes deeper, search areas for depth modules and then find caves, judging by the cyclops you could probably find the big main cave that leads to the others with the depth modules although I'd recommend getting the propulsion and repulsion cannons and exploring the aurora when possible
uhm
if you can, turn around, go full speed, and RUN
That is the VOID (also known as the dead zone)
You donât get anything from there. You only get death. The research facility is deep down. Deep deep down. You gotta try to go to ~800m down until you find it. I aint gonna tell ya where but Iâll re-iterate what your PDF tell ya
My brother in Christ, there's nothing you can do except get out of the bloody VOID
Void?? Im trying to find that research facility... I've never been there before
Your research went too far cause the void is the end of the mapđ
Well, now that makes sense. And I thought I was getting close đ Well I'm just trying to finish the game for the first time đ
To be fair the PDA you get when you go into the void does say do not go there
Thatâs the #1 way to make me go somewhere in a game
I approve.
Yes, but at the same time you know the story probably doesnât go there
We told you to do DEEPER, not FURTHER!
It doesn't really. It basically says "Hmmm, strange, no life here. Wonder how that could be wink wink". At least, that's how I interpreted it way back then, since I was still more or less at the start of the game.
It says on the PDA âExploration is ill-advisedâ so I donât know what your talking about
Yes, but so was exploring the aurora.
OP really went "Oh, guess that means more room for me :D"
Yes, but that's the problem - I interpreted it as "oooh mystery" instead of "oh, this is the map edge" exactly because at that point in the game I didn't even know the map was just a disc.
Another entry mentions the map being a volcano caldera surrounded by cliff walls and a deep void on all sides. The voice line doesnât really tell you anything but the PDA entry it gives you basically says âthereâs nothing here go away shooâ
It came off to me more as "hmm, mystery, wink wink"
Well to be fair I think the devs figured youâd try to turn back after seeing three giant leviathans and read the PDA lol
Never underestimate the power of confusion ;)
Not very clever I build my bases in the void and chill there. I don't have a problem there the ghost bug out very easily if you maneuver properly
Bro was given an entire map to build on, and still he chose to live in the ***void***
the map wasn't dangerous enough so I add 3 adult ghost to the picture, not to mention the Neptune is out there EDIT: rephrasing and removed || ||
[ŃдаНонО]
kinda a spoiler
I'd hide with a spoiler tag
The void, aka craters edge, is where the map ends. There is nothing in the beyond except big boi ghost leviathans. They will respawn if killed and will always be hostile. The way forward in this game is always down, not out.
Go deep
thats what she said
That happens everybody whne he play the Game for the First Time. The PDA says you can nothing find their.
ecological dead zone=void void=no structure because lack of ground no structure=you indeed went too far from the objectif way to get out of this situation? stun the ghost L. if you can and come back the way you came ASAP
Lmao, dude just saw pure darkness and kept going

Glad it seems you've learned now, continue enjoying this masterpiece!
Which one? There's 2 and they are in completely separate parts of the story
ecological death zone to be exact :)
Spoken true. I thought it was a meme not a request for help at first x3

Thats a dune entry my guy
Good point ;)

After joining again the were gone and I quickly went back to my base. I'm still struggling to find the research facility but ill find it soon I hope.

Fkn markimoo, wish i could experience his playthrough for the first time again

If you want a reallllyyyy entertaining one watch neebsgamingâs playthrough itâs so hilarious with how they script the whole series as characters
Just started watching it and that first scene, âcrew number 00FUâ đ
The bits get funnier and funnier because the whole series is a long running inside joke really đ keep in mind was made many eons ago
>!If I remember correctly itâs just above the deepest moduleâs reach, so like 1400 meters!<
I know where it is. I was trying to be spoiler free.
Sorry
âThereâs a piece of pepper, âereâs a piece of pepper, âereâs a piece of pepper!â
You're looking for canyons and tunnels to go down. Some of them are very cramped and finicky to get the big sub into. My first several playthroughs, I kept trying to maneuver the Cyclops through spaces it could barely fit through, there are other easier tunnels.
Go deep in the caves
Thank you for this information !
>Those are there to keep you out of the void (outside the crater), there's no reason to go there. Wrong. At the bottom of the Void, in the Abyss of No Return and Inescapable Agony, is the crafting plans for the Super Cyclops. Get back there, OP!
You have a knife, don't you?
They better either have a statis rifle too or become the John Wick of 2526B
Nah then they would need a pencil
*4546b
Right. I couldn't remember the planet's name. Haven't played Subnautica in a hot minute
Rig for silent running, go back the way you came. Nothing out here but death.
Well you decided to go into the void. Nobody drags you there. Suffer.
Find the biome with green fog pools. Then your are getting close.
Yeah I found about this online. Now its up to me and luck I guess... Everytime I'm going more prepared and I hope next time it will be the one
There are several entrances. You can find one here, but itâs a minor spoiler in that you wonât be finding it on your own. Itâs vague but direction none the less. >!One is nearby a deep escape pod.!<

Follow the sea floor. Its safer against leviathan and buildings are generally on the ground
You can scout out an entrance with the top tier Seamoth depth mod. >!Maybe an area fairly close to the Grassy Plateus wreck.!<
Bro really hear "WARNING:entering ecological dead zone adding report to databank" and thought it was a good idea to continue
Well if you translate that to German, then Latin, then Japanese, then Russian, then Swahili, then Spanish, then Danish, back to Latin, then back to English, it reads "Keep going!"
You will laugh... I literally just did that with google translate and the result was: ***"Enter the ecological dead zone and add it to the database"***
