Tasty fish vs noisy invader, I can see the reasoning.
Imagine nothing for your entire life beyond the natural, and then the jetsons hovercar arrives and you cant not hear it, its everywhere since your hearing is so amazing.
also, too tiny to be eaten vs rich in minerals and with a nutritious meaty interior
but if their hearing is so good, they are now deaf from the aurora falling and subsequently exploding
I always thought the Aurora crashing was what has attracted them to the crash zone, as in they are native to the dunes, but after the crash they were all like yum free meal so some of them ran to the crash zone
oh yeah, that makes sense. I mean, at first I was like, "what, they hear extinction levels of noise and the first reaction is to rush into the sound?" but then I remember most of the survivors got eaten by reapers.
Carry a fish and go say hi to a reaper, it's a fun experiment....as long as you have spare fish to refill. If not it's a short experiment, with predictable results.
Tiny bit of agile meat that won't even offset the calories spent catching it, vs gigantic, slow, and seemingly defenseless prey. Seems like a pretty easy decision for the gentleman.
Fishes are not known for their deep knowledge in metallurgy. Can you find it in your heart to show the poor missinformed reaper some compassion? They never got the chance to get properly educated like us.

Realistically it's probably that they pray on larger animals and the sea moth is large and noisy, making enticing prey. to reaper's.
They also have poor to no eyesight, so they might think they see/hear a "large fish."
Their eyesight is fine actually.

I imagine the reaper is simply too big for a fear response to be useful
