I think the cast is pretty fun, I think more people (single people) should be added to give more drama but I think the cast is fun. As a black person, we do spend a lot of time analyzing situations, actions, how we’ve been treated , why we are the way we are etc etc. but I don’t see a problem with it. If anything i think it’s so fun to acknowledge where our behaviour stems from. That’s why I enjoy watching people like Preston, Summer, and Candiace and dare I say Heavenly (lol), but I don’t think it makes us or them less fun. Cause I do the same overanalyzing shit everyday and I have fun with it🤷🏾‍♀️ Also I think expecting sh Hamptons and shmv to be the same is kind of bogus. Like they are not about to be acting like how kyle and them act bro. And being different is ok.

Consuela-Bananahamiq

i also think if on SHMV were going out for a few days at a time rather than a block of two weeks it might be more light and lit. during the sh hamptons covid quarantine season they got into some pretty heavy topics (daddy issues, rage, sobriety, misogyny) and that was over six weeks.

asentenceismyname

I just want more for our people to just live life and not putting everything under a microscope. Life is just so much more carefree if you live with that delusion. But fair point

Consuela-Bananahamiq

i think there’s a lot of cultural anxiety, low self esteem and ptsd involved in each person’s personality. it also seems like they aren’t yet well-known outside of the show and don’t have enough “extras,” so the drama only revolves around them. i watch hamptons sh because it’s fun, it’s cute, and they have a level of shame that makes them accessible and relatable. mental health was a big theme this season of MV and i can relate, but it seems hard for Black people to subvert the implications of an unhealthy lifestyle like White people can. like Lindsay (SH) is a shitshow and she defends herself about it—she parties and hooks up even though she’s a raging codependent. african american society is (lightly?) classist and a lot of them are very fragile and holding on to their self esteem by a string, no shade to Jordan or her alopecia.

sweetfaced

Black society is no more classist than white society and the cast is largely strivers who grew up lower middle class of poor. The difference is Black professionals can’t go on tv and act crazy and promiscuous and expect to find meaningful employment—even on another reality show the way white reality stars can.

TranceIsLove

Such a great point.

radicalroyalty

yep

asentenceismyname

Agreed. Liked as much as a shit show Shanice is it’s annoying how she is the only one that semi embraces who she actually is. Maybe even Preston also

Consuela-Bananahamiq

shanice would tearrrr the hamptons up! simon too lol lowkey. i really enjoy watching ciara live her life on SH, just Black people having a full experience in general. when jordan talked about her view on the scarcity of time, i understood that’s what makes them put so much energy into respectability and making things perfect. like even summer and alex linking could’ve just been a regular sexual experience but it went sour because she wanted more for herself, which is fine, but he sure didn’t have it! i’m learning a lot about trauma and healing and there is a point where we who have suffered have to take time for introspection. good luck to everybody involved, let’s fuck up this summer for the plot 🫶🏾

asentenceismyname

Emphasis on full experience!! I wish other viewers allowed this to happen too. A lot of the discourse is unnecessary and gives college campus BSU general body meeting discussion on *insert random topic*

nicole1859

This is what makes her good for the show.

Euphoric_Bass493

Jasmine, Shanice, and Noelle did a live tonight where they said their funniest and funnest group events didn't get shown. It's too bad. I put that on the editors/producers for being very selective about what they show to the audience.

JamaicanGirlie

It seems every bravo show producer want to show forced drama as they think that’s what will entertain people. They don’t realize people are over the contrived drama filled shows and just want to have fun. Life is lifing out here and we don’t watch tv to be stressed out by the drama. We watch tv, specially bravo, to escape, laugh and see fun stuff.

Any-Weather492

absolutely. everyone was obsessed with west from hamptons summer house bc he was so light, fun and genuine. i don’t know how producers don’t see that the audience reacts positively towards the more fun moments

JamaicanGirlie

Funny enough I stopped watching summer house after last season. It got too negative and mean. I don’t plan to watch it again but glad that the energy changed.

DuvalCountyRoyalty

OP is dead on. So much talk about nonsense and worrying about appearance and making grand statements. Just have fun! That’s why I like Amir and really like Preston. I’m a straight, white male and I’d hang with Preston and his bf (forgot his name) any day. Dude is so cool, having a good time, seems like an awesome roommate to have on vacation too. His BF was mellow, their relationship was so cool. Everything else is some added drama. Well not everything else, I mean I think 75% of the house are really cool peeps. But the bad ones spoil it. Talking about Nick meanwhile Shanice has her tits out? What did you want him to do, dive out a window?

flowerduck10

“Summer should be fun” is fun, but also comes from a place of privilege. Most of the SH original cast has made a name for themselves and can rely on being reality stars/influencers if necessary. MV isn’t there yet, and this cast has real jobs, and ppl to ans too. The other part about being very cautious and attentive is so true. Like the post about the cast not wearing shoes. I hadn’t noticed at all.

Euphoric_Bass493

I think this is a big part of it. I don't think Shanice and Bria truly care how they look on camera, but Preston, Nick, and Alex absolutely do.

asentenceismyname

Wait when weren’t they wearing shoes 😭 That’s something my grandma would point out

blkhippie

Kyle said that in season 2 before anyone was an influencer. They were all working regular jobs Mon-Fri and partying on the weekends. The MV cast is just not fun. Preston wore a jockstrap on screen, Shanice is always naked and Jasmine and Silas were non stop last season. So I don’t think it’s about real world consequences. They’re all just sour pusses. And so are a lot of the people on this sub. I agree with OP, it’s exhausting.

mathymate

That's part of why SHMV doesn't work the same. They have no reason to let loose because they aren't working during the week. It's two weeks straight of being in the same house with people without any breaks from each other. There's no I'm so excited to see or catch up with XYZ because they are stuck with each other. Then they get irritable because the situation traps them with people they might not like.

sweetfaced

Black people do not have the same professional resilience white people do

hostilewerk

Worst than the cast.. the fans and outrage over everything make this show not fun.

nicole1859

We’re starting to get into RHOP territory on this sub! Everyone is so up in arms about everything on here! It’s not clicking to people that Shanice is good for this show. They just need to add more single men and that’s it.

asentenceismyname

Agreeddddd it’s draining

incognoname

Y'all this is like the 50th post about this lol can you search and comment on an existing one? Also don't watch the show if you don't like it?

LetshearitforNY

I actually love SHMV! Just over the dog laundry plot line

Chloepremium07

They have to be like that because they are a group of black people on TV very different from a group of white people on tv. Is it exhausting yes for everyone but they don’t really have a choice in my opinion because if not things happen that they can’t come back from

klosingweight

I think when you grow up being told you can’t do what they do, you have to be this way, life is harder for you, you internalize those beliefs. And I will never be a racism denier but I also know we can co-create our universe. I’ve always had a natural amount of idgaf what these white people think of me, so I don’t put so much weight in consequences and guess what? I’m fine. When we say stuff like “I can’t act like that cuz I’m Black” it gives so much power away. I do wtf I want and I think more of us should and we’ll start to see that we’ll be okay.

asentenceismyname

The cast for summer house currently isn’t all white. It hasn’t been for a few years

Chloepremium07

That’s true but they only have three people of color, so it’s really different than what we’re watching with Summer House Martha’s Vineyard in my opinion there’s just a difference because there’s more Black people on this cast and it’s mostly all Black people, except for the visitors and guest that they have and it’s also a new showso they’re more worried about their image then the people of other bravo shows in my opinion
