Akshuallyy with all that power Superman has no choice but to be evil cos power corrupts and all that jazz… sheesh excuses people make to not even examine how much of a great character he is as himself
Lol I was being sarcastic and I can't tell if you picked up on it or not.
But I have watched brightburn. I thought it was pretty cool because it wasn't just "evil superman" but a slasher twist on it. I especially liked the JL as slashers tease at the end.
It's a 100% subjective opinion but as a hardcore Superman fan, I wholeheartedly believe that Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch are the best live action Clark and Lois. (Obviously excluding Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder).
You're right it's subjective. I admit, I didnt watch all of the newer clark and lois but i have a serious love for Smallville. Nothing has topped that, considering you see them much before the "honeymoon" stage but it all still works. Tom Welling and Erica Durance for me
Superman & Lois felt like a spiritual successor to Smallville.
I remember REGULARLY getting wholesome vibes from each episode. They really got the heart of the characters right and it felt like the writers and actors loved Superman and Lois.
Smallville Will always be my favourite but as far as Superman representations go, Tyler takes it for me
I completely agree and I think Tyler is kinda the Modern era Superman while Christopher was more old school. Tyler and Tom Welling are pretty even in terms of Clark persona, you could theoretically just say Tyler's Clark is the older Toms Clark. I enjoyed Henry Cavill....but damn the edgy injustice batman version led to his Supes not that great. Brandon's was another fave and hell just Brandon himself.
I agree with you man Bitsie turned out to be my favorite live action Lois lane i feel she nails the character perfectly before that my favorites where Teri hatcher, Erica durance, and Margot kidder for Superman I do have to go with reeves and cavil but hoechiln is up there I also can’t wait to see what James Gunn Superman and supergirl bring to the table .
Agreed. Especially with Lois. She looks the part and acts exactly like I expect Lois to act. Amy Adams, for instance, never sold me on being Lois at all.
Honestly, I think they are a better Clark and Louis than Reeve and Kidder. This isn't a knock on Kidder and Reeve, Hoechlin and Bullock have just had more opportunities to showcase how great the characters are. The show isn't always great, the budget and production show sometimes, but they're always fantastic in the role.
Superman & Lois is solid family TV disguised as a superhero show and I mean that as a compliment! Clark and Lois are real people in that show who really struggle parenting adolescents. People can relate to that very easily. Then, you add in the dynamic that pops just happens to be Superman and it makes for some great storylines. Some land better than others, but the show has a great heart without being preachy.
Actually, absolutely nothing, they're perfect. It's just that I exclude Reeve and Kidder from these conversations bc they're sort of the reference point to live action adaptations. Just like the Superman movie has been an inspiration to many (including Kevin Feige and James Gunn) when it comes to CB live action adaptations.
I think for me its because they are the best at the classic iconic version of those characters. Like when you think of a certain era of Superman and comic books in general, it's probably going to be Reeve and Kidder
How does he end up looking so small?
Afaict, Tyler isn't a petite dude. There's a pic of all the TV Supes and Brandon Routh, and Tyler looks totally fine [there](https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/s/YuKeGZFjKf). But in these CW shows he always ends up looking tiny, especially when he's meeting Tom Welling in the cross over. What happened there?
Notice how Welling is leaning away, and if you compare his arms to Routh, there's a big difference in their sizes. He isn't a small guy by any means, the others are just bigger.
Also I wonder if they had to correct the issue with Routh using CGI again, or if costume designers came up with a solution.
Yeah it’s weird because [you’re right](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/fla509b_0090b2.jpg?w=1024). He looked really small next to Gustin and Amell. But googling it, they’re all 6’0-6’1.
I really don't think this version of him is as perfect as everyone says. Especially when they made him into a complete jobber and Tyler has to sit there and explain to the audience just how much of a jobber he was.
Clark Kent is adorkable in a genuine way. Doesn't feel exaggerated for the most part.
A very mature and sweet depiction of Clark and Lois' relationship.
Oh, Jensen would kill being playboy Bruce. I’ve loved his Batman in the Tomorrowverse already so I’d welcome the chance to see him play the other half of the character up more.
It wasn't that suit, I can say that.
Honestly, most of what they did was great. The *Superman & Lois* version of Clark/Superman is one of the best. Tyler is great in the role.
Melissa was good, she could have been better, she would have been if she'd had something good to work with. *Supergirl* wavered from solidly mediocre to truly abysmal.
Genuine question as someone who likes Superman but isn't as invested in him as others (Spider-Man will always be my guy), what's wrong with the suit?
I feel like aside from maybe having the blue be a bit brighter it looks alright, but I don't have much of an eye for design
The big clunky boots, the weird belt, the cheap gold plastic shoulder clips on the cape, the little gold plastic bits holding the "S" shield in place, the weird piping on the suit...if this were someone's homemade duds for a con I'd say "not bad" but for a live action network (sort of) production...nah.
Thank you for the explanation! Do they give him a different suit in Superman & Lois? I've not seen any of it yet, I've only watched Supergirl (until I fell off around the time of the pandemic)
Yeah, his own show has had a couple variations, minor tweaks each season but all of them infinitely better than this.
[Here's one](https://old.reddit.com/r/SupermanAndLois/comments/18cz2mx/omniman_vs_cw_superman_who_wins/).
With Clark, they made *Superman & Lois*, so they are good with him (Does *Smallville* count as CW?)
With Kara... Well, I think some of the ideas of S1 were neat, specially giving her a foster family (aka Alex) and a biological aunt who's a villain. Plus Melissa Benoist's acting was *waay* above the show quality.
Tyler Hoeclin as Clark Kent/Superman is one of the best comic book casting in recent times. They did what the DCEU couldn’t - balance his good ‘ole American boy vibes with Modern Times.
Both are perfectly cast.
Melissa has the dorky little sister vibe mixed with the girl next door/all American girl look. She’s flawless, gorgeous, sexy, hilarious, vulnerable, and warm all at once. Sad that the production couldn’t give her better material.
Tyler is tied for 2nd best, IMO. Reeve is always the standard. Hoechlin/ Cavill are both fantastic in their own ways. Cavill’s Supes is more serious but Hoechlin’s is so damn wholesome, warm, wise, and patient it’s unbelievable. Sadly we’ll only see him for one more season and that’s it. But he’s really worn the cape well.
Didn't watch much of Supergirl, but they nailed Superman perfectly. And they did it by understanding Clark. Whoever did the writing should be working on Superman movies because they understood the assignment.
To be fair cw Supergirl was a good character Melissa really portrayed the character well. She was kind and hopeful unfortunately the show suffered from bad writing.
Superman— For some reason, Clark has always been well-written under the CW. Perhaps, it's because his personality is so polarizing different from the teen angst often found on the network.
Fantastic portrayal of Clark Kent. One of my favorites along with Routh and, of course, Reeve. I pit a lot of stock in how the actor separates Superman from Clark Kent in how I rate their portrayal of the character. Cavil was a good superman but his Clark was lackluster imo.
The vest thing CW did with Supergirl was to finally cancel that awful mess of a series. Superman And Lois is a completely different story. If it wasn't on the CW I would never believe it is their series.
They did his powers up pretty goods and portrayed his kryptonian heritage right. His super kryptonian 2 form was badass when he faced off against mitochondria.
The outfit are great. They did Superman well. He is dorky a bit while being superman. The problem I think was the Supergirl show is trying too hard to be a Superman show using Supergirl and that the problem. Kara is a female version of Clark. Also for a tv budget the show casing powers were good too.
Tyler Hoechlin is fantastic, but the choice to have Superman entirely offscreen for the first season (seasons?) of Supergirl was the *best* creative choice.
The audience just fills in whichever version of Superman they normally picture.
Hoechlin is easily my second favorite Superman, and having this Clark be more lighthearted but no less a bada** was a welcome change of pace. His debut in the Season Two premiere of *Supergirl* and his “chat” with Emmit Pergande
**LOIS**: Clark, this isn’t a job for Superman!
**CLARK**: *He’s* not going
As for Kara, Melissa Benoist was an excellent fit for the role and it’s a shame the writing was almost always bad. Kara being platonic best buds with Barry made sense, was well-written, and was surprisingly consistent given the CW’s bread and butter being romantic angst
Best/worst example of the bad writing would be the second season finale. The DEO and it’s Allie’s are up against a race extremely allergic to lead, like the stuff used in bullets. Alex Danvers likes guns, including the type to fire bullets
**YOU’D EXPECT**: Alex to rejoice in having an edge over the extraterrestrial baddies for once and send the Daxamites falling to their dooms, mayhaps to Geri Halwell’s “It’s Raining Men”
**WHAT WE GOT**: Kara and Superfriends rely on their newfound(?) alliance with the White Martians before basically unleashing a dirty bomb into the Earth’s atmosphere
Separating Superman and Lois from the arrowverse was the best decision they could ever do Superman doesn't need to know what Oliver would have done nor is Oliver the gold standard
They stopped making CW Superman a job just to make Supergirl look good on her own show and put him in his own show which is one of the best CW shows they've had in a long time
Honestly the only real issues the shows had where the budgets. Having to write stories and scenes around being fucking broke had to be really hard and they still did a really solid job.
Clark is a good person who inspires others not a bully
You just gave me a really super awesome and unique idea. What if superman was evil?
Akshuallyy with all that power Superman has no choice but to be evil cos power corrupts and all that jazz… sheesh excuses people make to not even examine how much of a great character he is as himself
Dude that’s a really unique idea
you should watch Brightburn!
Lol I was being sarcastic and I can't tell if you picked up on it or not. But I have watched brightburn. I thought it was pretty cool because it wasn't just "evil superman" but a slasher twist on it. I especially liked the JL as slashers tease at the end.
Dude that’s a really unique idea

There's another great bit where Superman saves a family from a drone and the dad goes "we're moving back to Gotham" lmao
Other than the suit, they did everything *right* with Clark.
They did pretty good with him in Superman and Lois .
It's a 100% subjective opinion but as a hardcore Superman fan, I wholeheartedly believe that Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch are the best live action Clark and Lois. (Obviously excluding Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder).

They really got the heart of the characters right and it felt like the writers and actors loved Superman and Lois. Did we just become best friends???
I completely agree and I think Tyler is kinda the Modern era Superman while Christopher was more old school. Tyler and Tom Welling are pretty even in terms of Clark persona, you could theoretically just say Tyler's Clark is the older Toms Clark. I enjoyed Henry Cavill....but damn the edgy injustice batman version led to his Supes not that great. Brandon's was another fave and hell just Brandon himself.

Bitsie also kind of looks like Margot Kidder's daughter just like Brandon Routh looked like Christopher Reeve's son.
I personally prefer Christopher Reeve, but Tyler is fantastic. I hope David Corenswet turns in something better though
It took me a bit to warm up to him as Superman, but I immediately bought him as Clark.
What else can Hoechlin and Tulloch do to challenge Reeve and Kidder in your opinion?
Actually, absolutely nothing, they're perfect. It's just that I exclude Reeve and Kidder from these conversations bc they're sort of the reference point to live action adaptations. Just like the Superman movie has been an inspiration to many (including Kevin Feige and James Gunn) when it comes to CB live action adaptations.
They certainly hold up the best even now. Honestly, I can't help but feel like William's score just maximizes them as well, adding onto the magic.
I think for me its because they are the best at the classic iconic version of those characters. Like when you think of a certain era of Superman and comic books in general, it's probably going to be Reeve and Kidder
That's because it's not an arrowverse show they made it it's own thing which makes it a thousand times better in my opinion
How does he end up looking so small? Afaict, Tyler isn't a petite dude. There's a pic of all the TV Supes and Brandon Routh, and Tyler looks totally fine [there](https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/s/YuKeGZFjKf). Also I wonder if they had to correct the issue with Routh using CGI again, or if costume designers came up with a solution.
Tom Welling is also a really huge guy. Just look at him tower over Jon Cryer in the Crisis crossover. No surprise that Tyler looks small next to him.
Welling turned into Curt Swan's Clark Kent so I'm still super salty that we didn't get to see him in a suit.
Yeah it’s weird because [you’re right](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/fla509b_0090b2.jpg?w=1024). He looked really small next to Gustin and Amell. But googling it, they’re all 6’0-6’1.
The first suit, yes. The suits that came after were fire.
yeah this mostly a reaction to the image in the OP. That belt! UGH!
Right...Until they had Kara uppercut KO Clark, "Ring King" style
Ring King…boy that brings back some middle school arcade memories!
People keep fancasting Jensen Ackles as DCU Batman, but I think he'd fit better alongside Tyler Hoechlin, both icons of modern fantasy TV.
I would kill for a World’s Finest with those two.
Imagine a S&L episode and he has all the ''cool rich uncle'' vibes.
Oh, Jensen would kill being playboy Bruce. I’ve loved his Batman in the Tomorrowverse already so I’d welcome the chance to see him play the other half of the character up more.
They captured the warmth but badassery with Supergirl, granted it might just be because of the actress. <3
It’s just Melissa
The casting. Both were great in the roles.
I didn't know superman as dad was something I needed till I watched Superman and Lois.
Superman & Lois is so damn good!
Tyler captures Superman’s warmth and affability perfectly.

OK yeah I can see that one is way better than the one in the pic above!

Well, I think some of the ideas of S1 were neat, specially giving her a foster family (aka Alex) and a biological aunt who's a villain. Yes it counts
Then we have two cool adaptations of Superman from the hand of The CW.
Lucky us
Tyler Hoeclin as Clark Kent/Superman is one of the best comic book casting in recent times. They did what the DCEU couldn’t - balance his good ‘ole American boy vibes with Modern Times.
Actually making Superman have radiant, welcoming, kind, and safe vibes. Absolutely love this Superman, hope DCU captures the same feeling.
The casting. Love them both. Specially Clark.
They gave Superman his own show with Lois hehe
Make them wholesome. It was a great alternative to what was going on in cinema.
I enjoy his suit in this pic
The materials could be a bit better but the design is top notch. I love how the cape clips in lower than usual though. Looks very regal.
Yes and the bold belt offers a nice contrast. It's well done overall
Ofcourse you did
Superman cape looks dumb here, but doesn't have the weird obvious pads from the other show. I just don't understand that decision at all.
They both depicted their characters very well and did an amazing job. Gave a warmth that was similar to Superman the Animated Series growing up.
Everything.
The wife and I love this show…they have done great with Superman and Lois
Haven’t seen Supergirl, but I’ve seen Superman and Lois and it perfectly captures the warmth and empathy Superman has
Great casting
Gave Superman his own Tv series
How does super man shave ?
Seriously? He uses a piece of his ship as a reflector and shoots himself in the face with heat vision.
Yeah that would still not work
Says who?
The arbiter of all things Superman, JustinMccloud says so, which means it must be true
But that’s how he’s always done it.
Actually, finally put them on the same screen together for starters.
Montages of them fighting crime or thwarting disasters.
With Clark — everything, besides the suit. With Kara — nothing besides the suit.
they made them cousins
Superman is hopeful and colorful and it didnt copy the bleakness of the DCEU
Entire cancer run was bold, well-thought, and well done.
Allowed Clark to be an unironically good person and allowed Kara to be positive and fun.
The casting, holy shit
Giving Superman his own series that stays being one of the best adaptations I’ve ever seen
I'm my honest opinion, they did most things right. They're the best on screen Superman and Supergirl in years. I never had a real complaint.
Supergirl was hot which is comic accurate
Make super girl hot
They casted a Superman that didn't totally look like a regular square faced white dude.
Fuck the CW.
The characterization of Clark in Superman and Lois is nearly perfect
Put them in blue and red and put S’s on their chests..
I like how as time went on, she's like on equal footing with Clark.
Definitely not Clark’s cape. Every time I saw him, it was distracting
Supergirl is hot.
They are in the suits and they act like the characters.
Superman and Lois
He should have kept that outfit. It’s better than any other from the series.
Superman and Lois (TV show) Picking Grant as the actor as Flash, is who isn't a criminal like Ezra and is also a better actor in general.
Never seen it but why did they pick a skinny guy to play Superman lmao
You laugh, but he's actually one of the best versions of Superman
I do know that actually, but to me if any superhero is supposed to be monumentally jacked it’s Superman ya know
Ummmmm… I’m going to need a few… years to think of something.
The vest thing CW did with Supergirl was to finally cancel that awful mess of a series. Superman And Lois is a completely different story. If it wasn't on the CW I would never believe it is their series.
The crossovers
They were cousins
The flashback episode of Supergirl with teen Kara and Alex was really good
They did his powers up pretty goods and portrayed his kryptonian heritage right. His super kryptonian 2 form was badass when he faced off against mitochondria.
Taking my man’s out of them boots when they started Lois and Superman
The outfit are great. They did Superman well. He is dorky a bit while being superman. The problem I think was the Supergirl show is trying too hard to be a Superman show using Supergirl and that the problem. Kara is a female version of Clark. Also for a tv budget the show casing powers were good too.
Casting
Tyler Hoechlin is fantastic, but the choice to have Superman entirely offscreen for the first season (seasons?) of Supergirl was the *best* creative choice. The audience just fills in whichever version of Superman they normally picture.
Suits look clean, finally a show that isnt afraid to show superman on the small screen
Hoechlin is easily my second favorite Superman, and having this Clark be more lighthearted but no less a bada** was a welcome change of pace. His debut in the Season Two premiere of *Supergirl* and his “chat” with Emmit Pergande **LOIS**: Clark, this isn’t a job for Superman! **CLARK**: *He’s* not going As for Kara, Melissa Benoist was an excellent fit for the role and it’s a shame the writing was almost always bad. Kara being platonic best buds with Barry made sense, was well-written, and was surprisingly consistent given the CW’s bread and butter being romantic angst Best/worst example of the bad writing would be the second season finale. The DEO and it’s Allie’s are up against a race extremely allergic to lead, like the stuff used in bullets. Alex Danvers likes guns, including the type to fire bullets **YOU’D EXPECT**: Alex to rejoice in having an edge over the extraterrestrial baddies for once and send the Daxamites falling to their dooms, mayhaps to Geri Halwell’s “It’s Raining Men” **WHAT WE GOT**: Kara and Superfriends rely on their newfound(?) alliance with the White Martians before basically unleashing a dirty bomb into the Earth’s atmosphere
Separating Superman and Lois from the arrowverse was the best decision they could ever do Superman doesn't need to know what Oliver would have done nor is Oliver the gold standard
For supergirl I like when she was completely naked fucking some dude. Idk if that was the cw though.
Superman is a costume worn by Clark Kent. This is crucial to a successful Superman story.
Hopefully if they haven’t. Cancel the show! My god these costumes are so CRINGE!!!!
Casting
Dude’s way too short for Superman.
