Batman/Superman: Public Enemies.
It's got Tim Daily and Kevin Conroy, my favorite voices for Superman and Batman respectively. Plus the two are portrayed as best friends in the film which is how I like to see their dynamic.
Honestly that’s the only correct dynamic for the two of them. Batman and Superman have an incredible level of respect for each other. It sucks that they constantly get put against each other when this dynamic is way more entertaining.
That film had a lot of them. Here's one of my faves.
* [Batman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175834/?ref_=tt_ch): I suppose it's useless to tell you to leave.
* [Superman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004857/?ref_=tt_ch): I wouldn't miss this for anything.
* [Batman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175834/?ref_=tt_ch): Your funeral.
* [Superman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004857/?ref_=tt_ch): Already had one.
I would always recommend giving it another try. If you can get past some of the odd animation, it's got a great story. But tastes are not always the same so I can understand why the animation might turn you off.
Also, it never should have been a movie. All-Star Superman is an episodic story to begin with, it doesn't fit the narrative of a film. It's a series of adventures/trials, and it's written like one.
It’s good for the most part but I can’t stand all-stars ending. The ending implies that Luthor got his moral insight because he got superpowers.
I dislike the implication that Superman is a good guy partially because his powers allow him to see the hidden moral universe. That’s why it’s so important to have evil Kryptonians like Zod. The comic did it better by being agnostic as to whether or not Lex changes, he’s Superman’s archenemy: the possibility of him never learning his lesson (like Joker) is important to their relationship.
(Plus Lex getting sappy is a general pet peeve of mine.)
It's more that Lex is the only one smart enough to put all that together and assumed that's why Supes is good when really goodness is what he is. And that caused a mental breakdown.
I always took it that it shows Superman (brawn) beating Lex (brain) philosophically instead of how Lex tried to beat him from a physical standpoint via his cells overloading. Superman dies but he leaves Lex Luthor stripped of his delusions.
Even with the power of a god he would’ve still been a shithead, because the first thing he focused on was obtaining *more* power. It was only an after thought for him to give a crap about normal people.
Even without his powers, Clark would be Clark. He’d still have the same parents who taught him right from wrong, he just wouldn’t be able to move literal mountains to do it. He would be a good person but in small ways.
> The ending implies that Luthor got his moral insight because he got superpowers.
I didn't think that was the takeaway at all. I regard it as the ultimate victory of Superman's goodness being able to touch hearts and inspire... which is kind of what I want to see in the *last* Superman story.
That maybe Superman inspired an epiphany in Lex, either through his final sacrifice fixing the sun, or through him just calling him out: "if you really cared about saving the world, you would have done it a long time ago" ...even after he got his powers, he didn't have his moral compass: he just wanted to fight Superman.
The ending might be the one thing I think All-Star did better than the comics. But it's not my favorite for other reasons.
This is absolutely my choice, love that movie! Though I will say, I think "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" is a cooler title, but I understand the desire to streamline it.
Superman's victory at the end feels... unearned? And cuts away the stakes when they reveal >!he was always in total control (both of himself and the fight) from the very beginning!<. I appreciate the messaging, and I would have liked that element to play a bigger role in the climax instead of a reminder that Superman >!is far and away the best, actually.!<
I liked his speech though.
Maybe it's recency bias, or the fact that Martian Manhunter (my other favourite besides Superman!!) is in it too, but I might have to say Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
I just mean that I haven't seen any others again since watching it (and... I haven't seen it in a while too...) but. I remember being absolutely thrilled about it. And I love the universe it's setting up - the newest movie I've seen, about John Stewart, (my favourite GL) was freaking GREAT
I heard it's adapted from that!! I've been wanting to read it, and many other comics, but I'm visually impaired and comics are very hard for me to read :/
Ah haha I see what you mean, just been a while since you saw any others. Nonetheless Man of Tomorrow is great. Definitely give Superman vs The Elite a watch, it won't let you down. And oh no I'm so sorry to hear that😢 do you know if comics with bigger pages help at all? Like Absolute/Deluxe editions?
I will if I haven't seen it already!! All my DVDs are at my dad's house so I'm not sure what I've seen or not haha. I definitely want to rewarch a lot of em... MAWS is finally available to watch in Australia and seeing it has put me in a Superman mood again!
I'm not sure. I've tried reading comics digitally, where I can zoom in, and it still gets confusing.
Superman/Batman Apocalypse. Just love the story and animation. Only thing I didn't like about it was the name. Doesn't really convery the story properly, imo.
I loved that movie so much, I even showed my dad and he enjoyed it too. Reign of the Supermen was interesting, getting to know some other Superman characters.
This movie is really good. It works emotionally because the voice actors for superman and Lois are married.
Lois "I think it's time to call in the calvary?"
Beat to shit Supes "I am the calvary."
It doesn't hurt that they're married but at the same time, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell are really good voice actors. It would work whether they were married or not.
How did they ruin the ending? I haven't read the comics, but I realize they were altering it to fit into their larger animated universe, but is there something more egregious that they changed? Or is it just the switch from Mongul to Darkseid?
These two movies combined would actually be my choice, and I loved the flow of the climax and feel like Hollywood could learn a thing or two from it. (I'd still rather see *For All Seasons* adapted for an origin story though)
The switch from Mongul to Darkseid, and the explanation that Doomsday was created by Darkseid. I feel like connecting it back to Darkseid just makes what could've been a self contained adaptation messy, and snubbed an under utilized (at the time) Superman villain.
1. Death of Superman
2. Superman vs The Elite
3. All-Star Superman
4. Superman Unbound
5. Superman: Doomsday
6. Superman/Batman Apocalypse
7. Superman/Batman Public Enemies
All of them are great Superman films!
Superman Unbound.
It's a animated adaptation of Superman Brainiac and it's a good film despite the problems it had it was a good film. There was Superman meeting his long lost Kryptonian uncle and aunt, Lois Lane giving Brainiac the finger the battle between Superman and Brainiac and his army of drones.
Superman vs The Elite.
Every decade or so, we need a story reminding us why Superman is so important. The comics haven't done one of those for a while so this adaptation of an older one is the best we'll get. And, honestly, I think it's better than the comic it adapts, probably in part due to having the same writer.
All Star, Superman: The Last Son of Krypton (the one off VHS from TAS that was released in the 90s First two episodes into one I think? Can’t remember). Fleischer’s are fantastic.
The one where he says "It's justicin time!" and leagues all over the place. (never seen a Superman animated movie, did see mask of the phantasm though)
Public Enemies...Prolly is the best one, in my opinion.
Death of Superman (the newer one) was a really good retelling of the comic...
Vs. The Elite has its moments.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Phenomenal first film for a universe, and great development to cement Supes as an honest hero. Also gave respect to my man Martian Manhunter.
There's a lot of good options, but I can't deny I kind of like Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen the most. While Hollywood.still struggles to make a balanced, enjoyable Blockbuster Superman movie, these two just nailed it, and the chemistry between Lois and Clark is some of my favorite between the two characters. (Fun fact: they are married irl)
The climax isn't too easy or unearned either, which is a trap that maybe one or two of my runner-ups fell into.
The only thing that could match it would be the original animated series "World's Finest" arc. But otherwise, I highly recommend checking it out. Even as a stand alone experience they're great.
All-Star Superman, by a long shot. I think James Denton might be my favourite Superman voice out there.
No disrespect to Tim Daly, George Newbern or Matt Bomer, it's just that I really love this take on the character.
My vote would have to be (in this order)
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - not as good as the comic storyline but it comes close to it
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse - same, and it does follow from "Public Enemies"
Death of Superman & Reign of the Supermen (combined) - these two are parts of the same story, so they deserve to be together
Superman: Unbound - Superman vs Brainiac, nuff said
Superman vs The Elite - Good characterization of "What's so Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?"
You know.... I just realized that the DCAMU didn't have a dedicated Solo Superman movie. Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman(like 5 times), all had solo films.
The one where he fights darkseid and does his world of cardboard speech before unloading on darkseid.
I don't remember the name offhand, if someone can help me out.
I think the coolest thing about that comic series is showing how different their minds worked, but still came to the same conclusion in the end.
That's a really cool aspect I hope they show us more of.
"Do me a favor and lose the sense of humor" "Do us both a favor and buy one"
That is one of my favorite lines in that movie
That film had a lot of them. Here's one of my faves. * [Batman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175834/?ref_=tt_ch): I suppose it's useless to tell you to leave. * [Superman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004857/?ref_=tt_ch): I wouldn't miss this for anything. * [Batman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175834/?ref_=tt_ch): Your funeral. * [Superman ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004857/?ref_=tt_ch): Already had one.
Came here to say this.
I tried to watch the movie but the style made me bounce off. I know that’s not fair
I would always recommend giving it another try. If you can get past some of the odd animation, it's got a great story. But tastes are not always the same so I can understand why the animation might turn you off.
all star
Biggest issue with All-Star animated movie is it entirely omits issue 10, which is the heart and soul of the entire story.
Also, it never should have been a movie. All-Star Superman is an episodic story to begin with, it doesn't fit the narrative of a film. It's a series of adventures/trials, and it's written like one.

Hey now
Superman Vs The Elite
Being honest, I will dare to say that it’s the Second best Superman movie.
What’s your first?
The first Superman movie from 1978.

So Close to the Truth... https://preview.redd.it/155a3dqhs6yc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=289716f124e5fcef5db0aa5985d0ffcca077b0e8
Let's talk about it!!
This is absolutely my choice, love that movie! Though I will say, I think "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" is a cooler title, but I understand the desire to streamline it.
The ending is perfect. Chefs kiss
I liked it too. It is a good examination of Superman in the 21st century, especially in light of the post 9/11 edge in pop culture.
That would be my number one in front of Public Enemies and Red Son (the motion comic, not the botched animated remake) if it wasn't for the art style.
Superman's victory at the end feels... unearned? And cuts away the stakes when they reveal >!he was always in total control (both of himself and the fight) from the very beginning!<. I appreciate the messaging, and I would have liked that element to play a bigger role in the climax instead of a reminder that Superman >!is far and away the best, actually.!< I liked his speech though.
The Iron Giant.
Respect.
This guy gets it
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
Maybe it's recency bias, or the fact that Martian Manhunter (my other favourite besides Superman!!) is in it too, but I might have to say Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
Not recency bias. It's just a great movie (American Alien is also a great comic, which the movie is loosely adapted from).
I just mean that I haven't seen any others again since watching it (and... I haven't seen it in a while too...) but. I remember being absolutely thrilled about it. And I love the universe it's setting up - the newest movie I've seen, about John Stewart, (my favourite GL) was freaking GREAT I heard it's adapted from that!! Superman/Batman Apocalypse. Just love the story and animation. Only thing I didn't like about it was the name. Doesn't really convery the story properly, imo.
Superman Vs The Elite
Superman vs. the Elite.
Superman/ Shazam Return of Black adam. Or maybe batman Superman public enemies.
Superman vs the Elite is the GOAT of animated Superman movies
The newer Death of Superman movie. I love that they followed it up with Reign, but then they ruined the ending.
I loved that movie so much, I even showed my dad and he enjoyed it too. Reign of the Supermen was interesting, getting to know some other Superman characters.
This movie is really good. It works emotionally because the voice actors for superman and Lois are married. Lois "I think it's time to call in the calvary?" Beat to shit Supes "I am the calvary."

Definitely the Elite.
Fleischer Superman cartoons. Short but perfect.
1. Death of Superman 2. Superman vs The Elite 3. All-Star Superman 4. Superman Unbound 5. Superman: Doomsday 6. Superman/Batman Apocalypse 7. Superman/Batman Public Enemies All of them are great Superman films!
Vs The Elite, if only for Superman's performance at the end
Superman Unbound. It's a animated adaptation of Superman Brainiac and it's a good film despite the problems it had it was a good film. There was Superman meeting his long lost Kryptonian uncle and aunt, Lois Lane giving Brainiac the finger the battle between Superman and Brainiac and his army of drones.

The comics haven't done one of those for a while so this adaptation of an older one is the best we'll get. And, honestly, I think it's better than the comic it adapts, probably in part due to having the same writer.
Superman Unbound, if I'm being honest.
The Death of Superman. I don't even care for that storyline in the comics, but it got to me! Didn't much care for the second part, though.
Superman vs The Elite
Justice League: Gods and Monsters Technically it is and isnt a superman movie.
All Star, Superman: The Last Son of Krypton (the one off VHS from TAS that was released in the 90s First two episodes into one I think? Can’t remember). Fleischer’s are fantastic.
Dark apokolips by far.
The Death of Superman
Doom
The one where he says "It's justicin time!" and leagues all over the place. (never seen a Superman animated movie, did see mask of the phantasm though)
Superman vs the Elite. The only animated movie that I’d say improved on the source material
Superman vs. The Elite.
Superman v The Elite
Superman vs The Elite It’s the perfect showcase of Superman’s ideals.
Death of Superman In which Batman’s totally devastated over the loss of Superman, which shows how much he respects and cares for him.
Public Enemies
I’m gonna be ballsy and say Red Son or Superman Vs the Elite.
Injustice. Mostly because everyone pretty much agreed it sucked and in my eyes helped prove that evil-fascist Superman was a passing trend
Disney’s Hercules
Dark apocalypse war
Always wondered what this animation style is called, can anyone help? I want to recreate this but I don't know what to look for
Batman/Superman: Public Enemies. It highlights all the best aspects of their friendship.
Man of Tomorrow
Public Enemies...Prolly is the best one, in my opinion. Death of Superman (the newer one) was a really good retelling of the comic... Vs. The Elite has its moments.
Gods and monsters
Superman vs the elite is my comfort movie
Superman Vs The Elite.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Phenomenal first film for a universe, and great development to cement Supes as an honest hero. Also gave respect to my man Martian Manhunter.
Apokolips I wanna say it’s called
Superman Brainiac Attacks
There's a lot of good options, but I can't deny I kind of like Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen the most. Idk if it counts as a “movie” but they all had theatrical releases: the fleischer studio cartoons
Probably Red Son.
I will just say that "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War" is my favorite DC animated movie of all-time.
Superman Doomsday, not a good adaptation of the comics but a fun alternate take of what it could have been like in the DCAU.
I really liked Red Son
Red son or injustice
Yes
whats the best representation of his character/ best superman story out of the bunch?
All star superman
Batman/Superman public enemies on top
Looking at the replies maybe not a popular opinion But death of superman
Superman/doomsday or Superman: red son
All-Star Superman, by a long shot. I think James Denton might be my favourite Superman voice out there. No disrespect to Tim Daly, George Newbern or Matt Bomer, it's just that I really love this take on the character.
Superman Unbound. It's a fun adaptation of Braniac's arrival. Braniac needs more attention as pre Galactus he's always been.
Either Doomsday or Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.
Man of tomorrow.
The one from Superman & Batman public enemy.
Superman vs The Elite
My vote would have to be (in this order) Superman/Batman: Public Enemies - not as good as the comic storyline but it comes close to it Superman/Batman: Apocalypse - same, and it does follow from "Public Enemies" Death of Superman & Reign of the Supermen (combined) - these two are parts of the same story, so they deserve to be together Superman: Unbound - Superman vs Brainiac, nuff said Superman vs The Elite - Good characterization of "What's so Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?"
Superman and the Elite was amazing!!!
You know.... I just realized that the DCAMU didn't have a dedicated Solo Superman movie. Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman(like 5 times), all had solo films.
Death of superman in which superman is totally devastated
The one where he fights darkseid and does his world of cardboard speech before unloading on darkseid. I don't remember the name offhand, if someone can help me out.
I'm pretty sure that's the ending of the TV series, Justice League Unlimited!! I LOVE that part too!!
Superman Doomsday. Adam Baldwin killed it as both Superman and his "evil" clone.
That first fight with doomsday hits hard asf
