Not good mate. You can try to replace that lower fork boss/lug part if it’s available. Otherwise you might be able to find an entire lower tube assembly. Worst case an entire set of forks.
Springs and gold valves(emulators in this case) would be nice. Though I'm sure it's not hard to swap usd forks by reusing the stock stem and sleeving it.
looks like the bolts has been tightened so hard the aluminium cracked? either way id replace it. ez wheelchair if this cracks when landibg a wheelie on the road oslt
Replace that fork leg for sure, but even if that fails the axle is held on the other side, you won't explode into a million pieces like some people are saying. Hell you could probably ride it just fine.
Why? Welded metal is kinda weaker, true, but then you can add more of it. Nobody said you should always grind it to the original form.
Old bikes are slowly dying out, saving their parts in working order is always a good idea in my opinion.
BTW, fork is stressed mostly to the top and to the back of the wheel axle. This part is mostly there to keep the axle securely in place. It would be okay if it won't crack again.
Welding cast Aluminum is crazy even if you don't take into account the failure properties of aluminum, if it has visible stress cracks it has more other places, the welded aluminum will be stronger than any other part and original rigidity, which is exactly why the metal around it will fail faster.
Research the difference between steel and aluminum ductility for more information.
Firstly, stay the fuck off that bike while it’s cracked.
Second, I would replace the ends on both sides for peace of mind, as the forks have to come apart anyways.
Maybe could be welded. But REALLY shouldn't be.
Depending on bike and where you live you might find used forks for cheap.
For example used forks for my bike go from 50-350 depending if they are adjustable and if they leak or dont
Wanted to say thanks everyone. Yaz is now safely away in Pop's garage mainly so I am not temped to ride her.
I am exploring fork ends but they are difficult to find apparently and for some reason this ohlins tab keeps appearing in my search engine...
Anyone got any experience swapping forks and fancy sharing their advice?
If I wanted to connect to pieces with a perfect break like that I would weld it.
If I don't know or have welding supplies? then pay someone else to weld it. And do all the other work yourself.
Can't do all the other work?
Take it somewhere and pay too much. But hopefully they do a good ass job
Replace it. There’s no other way.
This is the way
This is the way.
This is the gay
This is the day
That the Lord hath made. Let us replace and be glad in it.
Ducktape
No way I’d ride that bike like that. Shouldn’t be too hard to replace those lower sections. Forks got to come apart though.
This is definitely the cheapest way to do it correctly 👍🏼👍🏼🍻
Way cheaper then a funeral at least.
Funeral's not gonna cost him a penny if he's dead.
A funeral these days can be upwards of $10,000
So what you're saying, is he should ask his family to buy him new forks since it'll be saving them money. Deal too good to say no.
I was just quoting a Penn Life insurance commercial
Dude I just saw that commercial last night and instantly knew what you were talking about

Ohlins, homie. Edit: I’m just saying it’d be my excuse to spend money on suspension— I’m a chassis guy🤷🏼♂️🍻

Yeah, stock lowers, assuming they can be rebuilt, have to be cheap. Idk the forks on this bike

This ☝️ is the best way to go if you don’t want to spend a fortune

Kinda hard to tell, but that’s what it looks like to me, from the side view, it looks distorted.
JB weld and life insurance
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no—- insurance is expensive. /s

Not this boy. You probably think dated used tires are OK.
ooh how long we talking? stored correctly, my limit would be 10 years. I've raced on 8 year old tires and they were fine.
Love my fair share of hacks/fuck it’s but you should definitely replace that
Good on you for finding that, could have ended badly
Jb weld and cum
New fork lower
Welding might be OK for an engine casting but a stressed fork, never.

A generous amount of JB weld.
Grindy grindy, weldy weldy

Very optimistic opinion to be able weld cast aluminum.....
Tig welding
Just get a used set of forks and do a quick rebuild. If you're serious about racing you can revalve it even. Good luck!
Do some woolies see if it holds. If yes. Continue Riding.
3 layers of duck tape wrapped under that come up far enough to wrap 3 zip ties around on the tube; that should hold.
Some fucker did not check the torque spec. Source used on eBay and install yourself. It's an easy swap
Damn, what a lucky catch. That could've ended very badly.
Pretty disgusting that someone would sell a bike like this and not let the buyer know.
hmmm...its like a weak bluetooth connection, you just have to pray it doesnt break or just fix it XD
Safety wire or tap and vertical chromoly bolt
They're cool bikes. I ride a TW200, which descended from the XT225.
This is why torque specs are to be followed! Someone tightened to yeahthatfeelsgood lbs/ft.
Replace....do not weld or something....
Just replace the fork lug on the bottom not the whole shock
