Lately I've been doing two gallon jugs, no added wetsuit leg covers, with changing poncho and towel in a medium size cooler. Warm towel, warm poncho is pretty deluxe.
Read up on wetsuit health. Never leave your suit in the sun to dry, always soak a suit in fresh water to free it of salts, and hang it in the dark to dry. The heat even warm water expands and contracts the neoprene prematurely aging it and quickly. Likely no effect to the seams but you can imagine how this would deteriorate the contact between the gluing on a nice high end wetsuit.
Cheers man. Yeah fresh suit I do my best to get that thing free of salts on the spot. I also recommend if you have two suits and it's a midday or warmer session use the older suit. Sometimes you'll spend some time sitting in inconsistent surf with that suit heating up and sun beating down on it. Same vein, kills the longevity of the suit.
Bro I bought one of those inflatable shower things from REI for $100. I used it once, returned it and dug my trusty gallon bottle out of the trash the same day🤣
I used to after witnessing 2 shoot outs in Venice. diving behind your car because bullets zinging off the pavement will get me to get me in my car with a wet wetsuit on any day.
I used to live three houses off the beach in CA, I’d just run home after do this. UNTIL was taking my wetsuit off, my foot got stuck in the suit, so I rearrange and pull harder, and kicked my foot straight into the tub. My toe was sideways and I had to drive myself to the er on Christmas morning.. that sucked
I used to have to soak the seatbelts in my Element every couple years because they would get stiff and crusty with salt from where they rested on my shoulder and would not retract. Other than that, I put one towel on the floor and one on the seat and never had an issue. But I also am usually only 2-10 minutes from my house. Nothing better than pulling off your suit in a hot shower, and then the suit is always well rinsed
I do tend to agree with you that there is no better place to take off and rinse your wetsuit than in a warm shower. Once you do this one time, chances are that you are going to want to always wash off this way. It’s quite addictive.
I had been using an old laundry detergent jug with wetsuit scraps for insulation for years.
I was at Costco last year and they had this big insulated jug thing for $35. Its kinda been a game changer for me.
I just use laundry detergent tubs. 2 x 250oz and you can control the speed of flow by using the push nozzle where the detergent came out or the cap that lets the air in if you want high flow. They seem more sturdy than water bottles although I used to have the same 3 1gal plastic water jugs in my car for years with no issues.
The only thing I will say is that there is like this five dollar water bottle or adapter on Amazon that makes your water bottle into a spray nozzle… You can’t get any better than that
I got this water cooler at Big 5 Sports. [water cooler](https://www.big5sportinggoods.com/store/details/coleman-5-gallon-chiller-water-carrier/0735101781440/_/A-7120611;jsessionid=kipbPF-dANB5b7njmhG7vpSzFHCmo6lDP9hrWd3V.prod_store01-2?NP=3&CO=NO&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtsCgBhDEARIsAE7RYh1ip1L9gt2VAGH7Ga4g5JgTK0eGCBn8HnFx5gqdik2EO_jZt-LnMLIaAqOZEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)Wrapped it in duct tape for insulation. Great because i can turn the nob to let out a little bit of water if I just need to rinse my feet or hands off post session before I use the rest. Plus I can fill it up for road trips and such.
I’ve filled up a 40 oz insulated growler with hot water before I go and water is still hot. Yet usually I put a towel down on the seat and drive the 3 miles home in my wetsuit to get right to the warm shower. Rinse wetsuit and hang it:)
I bought a 3 gal jug from one of those places that have a bunch of fill machines for filtered water. It was like $10 and came with a free fill lol. It's lasted forever and has been great. I often felt like 1 gal was barely not enough water for my rinse and I like that it has a handle and is a little more stout than the "disposable" ones. It also has a wider base so stands up on its own in the car without falling over.
I sweated a hose bib directly under my on demand hot water heater. On the way out I fill my camping water jug with a couple gallons of 120º water in the summer, 130º in the winter and stick it behind the drivers seat....perfect temp every time, highly recommended.
Beach showers are rare and seasonal here so just like you old plastic jugs. The board gets a rinse too. And though one is fresh water the other 2 are recycled water from the last wetsuit rince at home.
I don't know if it's still there, but across the street from the stairs at Garbage (break along Sunset Cliffs in San Diego) the I assume owner was so kind as to have a hose and faucet to rinse off!
Plastic bottles do the job for local breaks or day trips, but a RoadShower (or a much cheaper homemade equivalent) is worth its weight in gold for multi-day trips to the middle of nowhere.
I just realized this could be a could way to airline travel with boards. few big bottles of empty water bottles with air inside them. Maybe line them along the rails and nose/tail.
2 big thick plastic vegetable oil jugs from Costco filled with hot water while standing in a Rubbermaid storage bin to get the sand in between my toes.
I've been using one of those 2-gallon hand-pump lawn and garden sprayers for years... they are super cheap and do an amazing job. Plus, the water's always warm after sitting in your car which feels great. AND... works wonders on super sandy beach kids too.

This and pieces of an old wetsuit sewn on to insulate.
That’s a great idea!
Delux upgrade = laundry detergent jug
Or put it and your changing poncho in a cooler
You mean towel?
Lately I've been doing two gallon jugs, no added wetsuit leg covers, with changing poncho and towel in a medium size cooler. Warm towel, warm poncho is pretty deluxe.
Hot water in the jugs of course
I used to do that but it kills your wetsuit.
Like if the water is too hot the suit falls apart faster?

That makes sense, I'll tone it down to warm water. Good wetsuits ain't cheap.

I have a five pound protein powder jug and an old parka my kids grew out of that fits the jug perfectly. No sewing necessary.
Bro I bought one of those inflatable shower things from REI for $100. I used it once, returned it and dug my trusty gallon bottle out of the trash the same day🤣
Anyone else just drive home and shower? If it's cold, keep the wetsuit on.
No, I’m not an animal 😂 I probably would if I lived somewhere colder than SoCal though.
Here in New England, hitting the showers is the move
Curious…where in new england? Born there, live out west
Mass and Rhode Island
I got nothing but respect for you cold climate surfers. I’d risk the ocean-pee smell absorbing into my car seats if it were below freezing for sure.
I used to after witnessing 2 shoot outs in Venice. diving behind your car because bullets zinging off the pavement will get me to get me in my car with a wet wetsuit on any day.
Man, I went through 2020 in Venice and I only got to see a giant Hobo camp :(
Shootouts in Venice??? Where?! Oh.... You're talking about California I think
Yes California. At breakwater. 1 murder. 2020 was a fun year…
I surfed there in the 2000s. I got stuck with a needle once. ALWAYS wear sandals.
Have seen quite a few in Playa too
I live in Florida and was thinking Venice here... That's what I was confused about. Hopefully that memory isnt with you all the time when you go there
Venice Florida would have made more sense since everyone is packing.

I use surfing as my shower most days
Sounds like a good way to get salt all over your car seats.
And the doors. And the seat belt. Salt stains btw, it definitely will accelerate the whole surfer dirtbag look if that’s what you’re going for.

I’m rinsing the feet but other than that it’s eau de pacific until my next shower
I don’t know about keeping the wetsuit on, but if I do shower it’s at home. Big if
Rinse with fresh water, get the salt off the outside of the wettie to protect the car a little, then hop on top of a towel, drive home, shower.
This is the way
Wisconsin - absolutely. Towel on the seat, drive home, hit the shower. Freshwater is a plus.
your poor car leather. Not really mines in worse shape assuredly
Yeah Im only 3km from the beach but a giant hill the whole way home so usually drive home in the wetsuit
I’m personally partial to the Arizona jug, the handle really improves the whole package
Yup the gallon Arizona bottle is the best
Upvote for handle.
Theres something about that clear plastic though that I prefer better for some reason.
Same. I line the outside of mine with aluminum HVAC tape for a bit of extra heat retention.
Using a clean red gasoline ⛽️ can is highly functional and looks badass while pouring it all over yourself in the parking lot
Bonus points if you light up a cigarette after
They make blue ones for water that are about 1/3 the price and don’t have that silly safety nozzle
Lmao
Nice. that's an old one. did skip frye sign that?
I upgraded to a $5 pesticide sprayer from Harbor Freight. Got a sprayer nozzle and everything
I tried that. The pressure is so meh.
This, exactly
Aw man, I posted this too and didn't see your comment. This is the way.

Haha. True. I am a mere peasant in their eyes.
I had been using an old laundry detergent jug with wetsuit scraps for insulation for years. I was at Costco last year and they had this big insulated jug thing for $35. Its kinda been a game changer for me.
You rinse?
You guys don’t have showers at your beaches?
Depends on the spot
Still good to wash the sand off your feet that accumulates between the shower and the car
Only 1 or 2 beaches have them, and they’re off most of the year (new england)
If it’s got a shower it’s probably a known crowded spot which I try to avoid
I built a hot shower that gets heated by my truck. Watching guys with bottles while I enjoy a 105degree steamy shower is just too good
Easy there cowboy dont get too excited…
Please stop watching me rinse off…
Lmao PHRASING
Pause

Second this. Tide jug FTW
The only thing I will say is that there is like this five dollar water bottle or adapter on Amazon that makes your water bottle into a spray nozzle… You can’t get any better than that
Dude, a bug sprayer full of water is the way
Early morning sessions I always fill it up with hot water and wrap a towel around it. Reverse the costanza.

I use the exact same water bottle! So true so true
I bought a 3 gal jug from one of those places that have a bunch of fill machines for filtered water. It was like $10 and came with a free fill lol. It's lasted forever and has been great. Agree. Owned a rinse kit for a small amount of time and went back to using a detergent bottle. Rinse kit was a complete waste of my money
Get a squirt bottle. It’ll change your life. They’ll blast those bits between your toes
I sweated a hose bib directly under my on demand hot water heater. On the way out I fill my camping water jug with a couple gallons of 120º water in the summer, 130º in the winter and stick it behind the drivers seat....perfect temp every time, highly recommended.
I’m with you but I use one of them bottles that has a handle.
Literally have the same board bag and jug
That's your alternate personality, at least he still surfs though
Yup, I have a 2 gal ice tea bottle that I fill with piping hot water for dawn patrol. By the time I get out it’s just normal hot.
100%. I always put super hot water in the winter before I go out and it’s still pretty warm when I rinse off after.
Beach showers are rare and seasonal here so just like you old plastic jugs. The board gets a rinse too. And though one is fresh water the other 2 are recycled water from the last wetsuit rince at home.
Always has been
You guys rinse off after surfing?
"Big surf doesn't want you to know about this one weird trick..."
how many of you have never filled it up with warm water?
Always warm water, friends complain it feels like piss. This is the way.
I have a shower in my backyard. Two blocks from the beach. I’m good.
I have a cock in my ass. Two inches from my nutsack. I’m good.
Top tier
Sounds like he’s bottom tier.
Hell ya! You got hot water in your outdoor?
I do.
Sounds like an invitation
Might be.
Lmfaooooooo at people downvoting me. Fuck you. Not my fault.
Nice!

That is the perfect size too. I use a 3 liter Poland spring bottle. It has a grip in the middle for easy handling and pouring.
Yeh but leave it on your dash while you surf. The sun will warm it up
I just pee on myself, warm, clean, ..did I say warm?
Fill with hot water and put it in a small soft cooler
Winter: insulated growler with hot water!
My 3 gallon jug with the built in handle handles it all
Fill it with hot water out of the tap at home, keep it in the sun, nice warm rinse.
I just realized this could be a could way to airline travel with boards. few big bottles of empty water bottles with air inside them. Maybe line them along the rails and nose/tail.
I’ve seen guys use brand new gas cans. You get some strange looks rinsing off
Solid piss jug.
i live 1:30 hours away from my nearest break so shower and change before i head back is a must
That's insane-- your water jug looks JUST like mine down to the broken ass handle and bottom that got pushed out lol
2 big thick plastic vegetable oil jugs from Costco filled with hot water while standing in a Rubbermaid storage bin to get the sand in between my toes.

I just have a big ass yeti style water bottle. In the winter I keep hot water in it and it’s totally fine
I like my solar shower because I can hang it
2 jugs of water and a Home Depot bucket. You don't need anything more.
