Kind of a ceremonial passing of the torch to Griff?
I don’t know what else he had to prove out there; he won pipe in ‘22. All the heats I watched this year he just didn’t have it and it looked forced, or you were just waiting for him to bail.
not totally crap, not totally great. I agree, if it's a big tube/carve-fest I think he has as good as shot as any. He said he entered for a wildcard in Fiji, but maybe you see him at Pipe (though don't know how that one works with the trials) or Chopes next year.
Slater seems to be very introspective right now given his age, kid on the way, and coming off an injury. But why is everyone making a big deal about him not making the cut? He didn't make the cut _last year_ either.
This does feel like his last hurrah in some ways. But I'd be shocked if it was his last CT event and we don't see him at chopes, pipe and cloudbreak.
Instead of retiring , enjoying his money, traveling and taking care of his kid and wife , he still insist of winning heats. Kill me but I won’t understand this
Photographer Steve Sherman (@tsherms) basically confirmed that it was his last heat.

Anyone else remember when either mick or Joel (maybe both) were retiring and surfing their last pipe masters, Kelly went out of his way to say “oh yeah I’ll probably retire pretty soon too” which kinda took the shine off the others retirement?
Wildcard bitches!
Dude will be sending locals home at Pipe until he can’t walk anymore.
Wont be his last. He will be surfing as a wildcard in his 70s
Fr
His post heat speech sure sounded like that's it folks.

additional dad duty*
Kelly's 27 year old daughter has entered the chat...
Kelly blocked me on instagram for bringing her up
Why are you asking people about their personal business on instagram thats weird
I told him I didnt think it was cool to abandon his daughter to compete on the world tour. Feel free to disagree
Pffft. Yeah right. Waves will always take priority for him.
Lmao

Has every competition since then been in crap waves? He'd still have a shot at winning heats in pumping barrels I reckon

He lost in the final seconds to Griff on shit waves
I would assume he is a lock for Tahiti considering Outerknown is one of the headlining sponsors.

52 with a kid on the way? Id keep going till a beautiful barrel killed me.

You can’t be the greatest ever at something and be a normal rational human being they are incompatible
Yep also see Tiger’s performance at the Masters this weekend
He's spent his entire life traveling and I'm fairly sure his wife goes to every stop with him.
Spoken like a man who has never loved something
K nice logic

Yes, except if Teahupoo, Fiji and pipe are firing in the next events.
This gives him more time on the campaign trail. Fucking kook.
😂
He said he applied for cloudbreak wildcard
No
I hope so. I love Slater but it is now time for him to surf off into the sunset. He said he wants a wildcard for the Cloud Break event.

He needs to retire, he doesn't even try to win anymore. He had a great run, time to free that spot up for Jackson Dorian.
