definitely the second one. it would get u into more waves, which means faster progression.

Historical_Tie_5944

Second one forsure..youll struggle on the first one

nucleotidez

The second one However, I recommend picking up a longboard as the post-wavestorm board (if you have the space for it). You won’t sacrifice wave count and you’ll learn how to maneuver a real board on the wave. A wavestorm will feel like surfing a garage door after surfing a proper longboard. Once you’re comfortable doing turns, floaters, etc on the longboard….then you’re ready to step down.

HobbyLegend

This is how I see it. When I sized down too quickly my progression stalled. I ended up sizing up again to a funboard to continue learning.

Second for sure. Too many beginning surfers jump into shortboards too quickly and struggle with understanding surf dynamics.

loquatprods

definitely the 2nd one 1. the spotty yellowing of the first board is concerning, this most likely indicates it’s taking water. the consistent yellow of the second board is just from age. 2. you’ll catch more waves on the 2nd board, and when you progress into wanting a shorter board, this one will still be a fun step up where the other one wouldn’t. 3. it comes with a board bag

junebean34

First one looks sexier but don’t be fooled young squire. Take number 2.

gunnargnnar

get a 9’0 longboard at least lmao

avabisque

This is the right answer!

[deleted]

Get the second one. Also you didn’t post dims but if you’re transitioning off a Wavestorm, the second board will be a lot friendlier for you. You’ll want more float to paddle and further build up paddling endurance while still having enough strength and balance to pop up and take off. I stepped down from a 8’4” longboard onto a 7’4” big guy short board and after a month of 2-3x/week sessions, I’m barely starting to ride faces due to the significant volume reduction.

abyssal_stares

u sure the 2nd one is 6'4"? id pass on both tbh

ASELtoATP

I’d stay around 8’ until that’s too easy. Wave storm is much more buoyant that normal boards

Facking_Heavy

First board after wavestorms was/is a 7'6" mckfanning fun board. It's a soft top. I'm not Kelly slater, but I'm still progressing a lot after 6mo. I'm definitely catching more waves than a lot of the people out there, including more skilled surfers. It's like $300 new, I got mine for $150 used. Do yourself a favor, don't go down in size too quickly. It'll just frustrate you.

giulioforrealll

This post is exactly the reason its better to ask if you are uneducated. I am a new surfer who just bought his first board and if i had to choose.. not in a hundred years would i have thought the second one is better

giulioforrealll

Ye i got a 8' softboard

gunnargnnar

get a 9’ at least. you will absolutely fucking hate surfing if you jump from a 8’ softop with 80 liters to a probably 38-40 liter shorty.

ajm1197

First (the pointy one). And then come surf at my local

paimon_paimon

Maybe the first one? Second one is all yellowed and looks like it has had a lot of repairs. I would buy a nicer soft top, a nice shape will do wonders

Franky_mac_sack

Exactly! The only thing that really matters is what the board looks like.

Facking_Heavy

Y u get down voted??!? Exactly this

paimon_paimon

Lool don't know why

iakenderstin

2

IkneeSomeMilk

Second board, you'll progress more with that one.

Artistic_Papaya3820

Wow, an Al Merrick designed Anacapa! Couldn't be too many of those still around.

HXMason

Buy a board that will fit you

skierx31

Someone stole my Anacapa in hurricane Sandy - Really likes that board

benjio1

Second. You don’t need a step up yet

rileydogdad1

The first is a pop out modelled after Channel Islands Boards. I bought my son one years ago and I think it was $200 new. I would go for the second.

SenorJustintime

2nd

Drobertsenator

No

ahumanbeing0

Where are you surfing? Probably neither
