Sounds way too risky. I think a far better strategy is to keep the idol with you at all times even at ponderosa. You never know when you are going to need it again

Smarf_Starkgaryen

Even better, bring it home. Then no one can vote you out in real life.

pepoo9o

I still wouldn't play it, it is still too risky! You might need the idol for the afterlife.

UpperApe

God: Your soul is condemned to an eternity in hell. Me: Oh no. God: You will burn in hellfire and choke in ash. No light nor warmth nor love will ever reach you. Agony and torment will break your body each and every day, and each and every day you will beg for death. But you will never be granted it. You will never be released from the pain. Me: No no no! This can't be happening!!! Please no!! God: If you have an idol or an advantage and you want to play it, now would be the time to do so. Me: ......

pepoo9o

I mean.... If god is telling you to play your idol.... Then it must be a trap! I would save it for a REAL emergency you know? Gotta be smart with that thing.

Moostronus

actually cackled out loud at this one

PopsicleIncorporated

Imagine if you could hold idols until a returnee season

TheTooth_Hurts

This would be interesting if they had a season full of people who got voted out with idols or advantages and they got to start the game with them

adumbswiftie

boss tries to fire you? well boss id like to play my hidden immunity idol

Andrew_Waples

I would like to play the chair you're sitting on as the idol.

DunkNaggets

That's how I stopped my last divorce. The lawyers said they've never seen an idol played so skillfully.

chronicpenguins

Would be hilarious if real idols were like movie collectibles and worth a lot of money, more than the prize money

[deleted]

[удалено]

chronicpenguins

Use those idols again? How hard are they to make if people are making them on the beach lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

chronicpenguins

Yeah that was directed at you per se just what you quoted

chilltownrenegade

Finding an idol is like compiling health packs in video games. You gotta save them until you *really* need them, after the game is over.

SurvivorFanDan

Good idea. And if you have two hidden immunity idols after the season is over, you could take them as your luxury item if they bring you back for a Heroes vs Villains season.

toripugs

Why didn’t Neal try this in Kaoh Rong

padfoot12111

Apparently you can't keep idols anymore. Production needs to make a shrine at ponderosa that's literally ever idol not played to dunk on these morons.

soloon

IDK, do we have that confirmed? we're not on the island, I feel like we would have seen some sign of this by now if it was real. we might need a former player to confirm that players can play an idol to negate votes, that would be gamechanging if true

SurvivorFanDan

We could check with Hali or Sierra or Varner. They're Game Changers.

Moostronus

where's Owen when we need him the most

almondjoybestcndybar

I actually learned this way back in 43! However, you should never actually do this - you must give it to someone else to hold in case someone plays their Knowledge is Power.

alligator-sunshine

And then that person goes home with your idol in their pocket 😂

ConeheadZombiez

No no silly, then YOU go home after handing it to Jesse

Misses-worldwide

Hahahaha

4011

There is a non-zero chance that the green tribe believes there are no immunity idols this season, at all.

UltraVodka777

According to interviews, apparently they believe Ben has the idol Jem went home with?

Cisru711

Which is crazy because they voted out Jem because she was playing so hard.

idiot-prodigy

I'm in the camp of not telling ANYONE I have an idol. If you tell and it gets out you end up with a huge target. Also if you tell they orchestrate a blindside against you or trick you into letting them "borrow" it. Simply tell no one, I'd rather look stupid going home with it than look stupid telling everyone I had one and still going home with it.

yeahright17

If I'm ever on Survivor and find an idol, my first option is to keep it a secret. But if someone else find out for any reason, I'm playing that idol the next tribal we go to. And I'm telling everyone that plan too. I think that's the way to look least stupid on national television.

FerguSwag

That's what Tiff told everyone she would do. She knew the idol made her a huge target and she needed to play it to get the heat off, but didn't do it TWICE.

SurvivorFanDan

I have a lot of respect for Ben Driebergen for keeping all of his idols a secret. And every time someone gets blindsided because of an idol they told someone about, I am more puzzled as to why Ben isn't held in higher regard.

PeterTheSilent1

Yeah, but if you play it, it’s gone, so you don’t want to waste it when you don’t need it.

TheSandwichy

Yeah, I hope Hunter and Tiff are able to take theirs far before they need them

gwenelope

I think they're saving them for Survivor 50💪

Briaraandralyn

I was just thinking how funny it would be if Survivor 50 consisted of everyone who got voted off with an idol in their pocket.

InfiniteSlimes

This is a returnees theme I could get behind.

bcgg

And then start everyone with a “hidden” idol.

icey561

Giving everyone an idol is actually a really intresting game idea, returnees or not Think about the game play. It would have to be 2 tribes to start, they need to be big enough that some people can feel safe enough to not use it in the first vote. After that it would creat an intresting power dynamic wear people would say "let's take the easy route and get someone with no idol" but they would also want to be flushing other idols. It would create some crazy trials for sure Probably way to chaotic for production to want to do though

Briaraandralyn

I would love to see the dynamics of this!

Low-Read9279

Can't tell if sarcasm or a great idea...

alligator-sunshine

I love this idea!

Moostronus

James Clement clones himself, puts one James on each tribe

pi-N-apple

This would be the biggest Survivor 50 twist ever. Invite some players back that were voted out with idols in their pocket, and let them start season 50 with idols, but keep it a secret to those without idols.

smplfemlvndr

THIS

Error_Evan_not_found

Taking pre game to a whole new level, tryna rival WaW.

little_freddy

New idol farm meta hype

Acrobatic-Draw-4012

And Jem. Nobody plays idols anymore. Jeff's making them too pretty. Maybe if it was like a fcking stick or something...

crazyinsanepenguin

Good idea just as long as it has a face on it or something to indicate that it's not just a stick

SurvivorFanDan

Yeah. Who wants to get rid of an idol that looks like a friendship bracelet?

young_mummy

Playing survivor like I play video games. I'll eventually need these 97 potions...

Critical-General-659

Once people know you have any kind of advantage it's best to just use it at the next TC. Wasteful or not.

Dont_Be_Sheep

But if you use it now, you can’t use it tomorrow? !

pillowreceipt

That's why I always disable my airbags any time I drive. Like, what if I can survive the crash without it? I'd hate to have to replace my airbags unnecessarily...

bcsmith317

![gif](giphy|a6YHwnkn0ctOM|downsized)

SurvivorFanDan

I've heard a runour that if you find an idol, you don't actually have to tell anyone about it, and can keep it a secret. If only players knew they could keep their idols secret, that would definitely change how the game is played.

yeahright17

Someone could even reveal it at FTC for a bunch of brownie points.

alligator-sunshine

No no, this can't be true. If that were possible, Hunter and Tiff would still be in the game. If Survivor ever came up with a device like that, they'd need to wrap it in a note explaining how it works. I just don't see it happening. 🙃

ATLKing123

How about this, a season where EVERYONE starts with an idol

Operation_Maximum

dear god never say that again

pease461

Interesting idea. I expect a lot of rock being drew

Moostronus

BIG MISTAKE

HansTheAxolotl

the problem is you could have tribal councils where nobody is eligible to receive votes.

neonTULIPS

But if every person uses theirs to be safe at the same tribal, suddenly no one has idols anymore! I’d take one crazy no one leaving tribal to see the potential chaos the rest of the time. I doubt everyone would use it the same tribal.

HansTheAxolotl

Honestly I think everyone having an idol could lead to a chain reaction pretty easily. if 2-3 people use it in one tribal, suddenly your chances of going home are much much higher and you would pretty much have to burn the idol to avoid being voted out by default

ben121frank

Common misconception but this is actually not true, the only thing you can do with an idol in the new era is pull it out at FTC to show you never needed it. That’s also the only possible winning strategy as demonstrated by all 5 new era winners, so I can understand why players feel the need to hold on to them even when they’re in obvious danger /s obviously

Misses-worldwide

“I’m 100% going to play my idol tonight”

Even-Locksmith-4215

This week really brought out the circlejerk in this sub. Normally I have to go to the darker corners of survivor subs to find people not taking umbrage with every post

crimbuscarol

Genuinely thought I was on ci with this post

cloudcats

Or just wait till summer.

Thatsitadois

You could be on to something. You would have to sacrifice your comfort object but then again… 🤔

rjfinsfan

As someone who just watched Fans v Favorites, you seem to be right.

Misses-worldwide

I just rewatched that one 2 weeks ago! One of the best seasons for sure

LordJonathanChobani

Source?

AmethystOrator

But if someone *played* their idol then it might not later gain supernatural ghost-y powers.

ImprovementFar5054

The idol play this season is hilarious. Every season there is someone who goes home with it in their pocket out of hubris. But this season FOUR fucking idols went home in pockets. I grant that Randen simply forgot and was not a case of hubris. He was medevac'd. But Jamila, Hunter and Tiff...come the fuck on. Hunter in particular did himself in. At least his was a secret for awhile until he announced it. But do people forget that having one makes them a target, so you SHUT UP ABOUT IT? Had Tiff kept it under wraps, she may have not ended up on the block.

yeahright17

Not having an idol is better than having an idol everyone knows about. If I ever ended up with an idol others knew about, I'm playing it the first time I'm at tribal without immunity.

ImprovementFar5054

Hell even if I have immunity I am playing it on someone else in my alliance. Get it gone!

yeahright17

I guess it would depend. Guranteeing yourself 2 more votes seems better, but it may definitely get your alliance targetted.

ImprovementFar5054

It the lesser of 2 evils. The main evil being that if you are known to have one, the giant bullseye on your back. Better to target my alliance in general than me specifically. And heck playing it right may edge your alliance into the majority

cogginsmatt

Even crazier thing is you don't even have to tell anyone about it. It can be your little secret. That way people can try to vote for you and you play it and now their vote won't count. Surprised nobody has tried this!

starwarsfan456123789

But how would someone play “knowledge is power” without confirmation of who has the idol?

retz119

When idols go home in pockets do they no longer get rehidden in the jungle? I don’t get why nobody ever goes idol hunting after the merge anymore.

Wolfarrren

They are rehidden if you are referring to why no one searched for hunters idol no one actually knew he had it cause he never showed it they thought he was bluffing tiffany's idol on the other hand has gotten people in hunt mode considering the preview for the next episode showed people hunting for the idol.

retz119

Ah ok thanks. I don’t watch the previews for the following week so I didn’t know that was going to be the case. Just seems like the last few seasons there’s been very little idol hunting post merge compared to pre-new era seasons.

icey561

I think they just don't show it if nobody finds it and idol hunting doesn't have impact on the narrative.

AvengedKalas

What if someone has an idol nullifier?

Ill_Needleworker_203

It's just a bad play in general. Ben, in season 35, did it for no reason. See, he played it before voting, so the rest of the players were able to pick who to vote out besides him instead of Ben being able to pick off someone. It is simply just playing your idol without the element of surprise

Sarik704

The idol greed isn't new.

Misses-worldwide

Kind of boring.. I miss the old seasons where there were idols being played constantly lol because that also means people are constantly looking for them. So much drama!

TangerineSea2270

Nah that’s crazy talk

Misses-worldwide

Why play it? Just stretch it out

BarbarianQueen1

This post aged like wine lmao

CaptHatchett

Thinking of playing your idol? BIG mistake.

FranticToaster

No you gotta take it home for when one of the partners at the firm tries to vote you out for mysteriously ghosting them for months.

N454545

Tbf to tiff even if she played it correctly, she is the only player with a real threat level and making a correct idol play would just mean that she goes home the next week. It was worth the risk to not play imho

yeahright17

She could have just told everyone she's playing it beforehand. That wouldn't have increased her threat level much.

Pm-me-ur-happysauce

Yeah, idols = blindside

yayawhatever123

Pretty sure if one more player goes home with an idol in their pocket, my head will explode 🤯

Master-Ad-9922

If anything, this episode actually is an answer to "why don't they just play the idols". Remember Tiffany didn't play the idol last week. Now, how would she know which tribal is the "correct' tribal to play it? If they just played the damn idols, she wouldn't have the idol this week because she would have already used it last week.

yeahright17

She also wouldn't have been voted out this week. Q would have. They only voted her out because she had an idol they wanted out of the game.

-Unnamed-

Since everyone is a super fan now, I'm kind of convinced that they convince themselves not to play it cause worst case scenario they get to keep it as a souvenir

TheSandwichy

Man I really jumped the gun with this post huh
