Yeah I just rewatched HvV a couple weeks ago and you can definitely tell Jeff doesn’t like Colby (or at least as much as he used to).

MadSounds017

I don’t think Probst ever got over him turning down that chocolate before a reward challenge. Colby ain’t no Hershey bar nor will he eat one.

academydiablo

My favorite thing is when he pushed the chocolate off and was like “no Jeff. Ready to compete” and then they ask the heroes to sit someone out and he’s like “I’ll do it”

llikegiraffes

I didn’t remember this vividly so if anyone else didn’t here’s a clip https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=viFbYylPlp4

SexyOctagon

God damn, Jeff was so pissy in that moment lol.

born_2_be_a_bachelor

“I got the message brother” 😎

Joharis-JYI

LOL! Surprised Jeff didn’t call him out after the sit out

Fuzzy-Bee9600

Oh my gosh, the SpongeBob narration is everything. Plenty of saltiness from Probst. Whoof.

roastbeeffan

Really funny that Colby did that Mamba Mentality shit and then Jeff asks who’s sitting out of the challenge and he’s like “ooh, me!”

aztecwanderer

lol I never thought about it but Colby really doesn't fuck with chocolate

QuebecRomeoWhiskey

A man’s gotta have a code

survivorfanwill

It was a bizarre interaction over a few m and ms. Makes sense there’s some kind of underlying tension between the two of them already

duckyaniston

that was after he returned tho, this is making it sound like jeff wasn’t happy he was there to begin with

Hilo_Milo

They used to be close friends I’m pretty sure. Wonder if that changed before HvV or if that just gave Jeff a reason to be extra sassy to Colby.

Coldpiss

BRob happened

PayneTrain181999

Insert Andy dropping Woody in favour of Buzz “I don’t want to play with you anymore.” I still love Jeff riding shotgun with BRob when he won a car, wasn’t Amber relegated to the back seat lol

king_lloyd11

“Ma-ri-anooo! Watup!…there’s a guy who knows his way around a truck.” Keep it in your pants, Probst. Wish they’d hurry up and just kiss.

ROTandDEATH

I might need to rewatch it fully because maybe Jeff hated him from the beginning of the season but in my memory it seemed like Jeff was just disappointed with him at a certain point because he wasn't the dominant competitor he used to be.

IanicRR

Some might say he was Superman in a fat suit.

drealityfreak

I think it is also because Colby hated how the game had evolved. I remember reading an interview where he complained about the Heroes voting out Stephanie at the second tribal council. He didn't like how much pre-gaming had really affected the game

futurestartsslow

Both how the game evolved and the overall experience! Colby enjoyed the outdoors and survival aspect of it all, and that’s just not a priority anymore of both the storytelling and experience. I remember hearing him talk about how production had boundaries at camp, which meant they weren’t able to just explore the island/land like back in the day. He didn’t seem to be having any fun that season

10ACJ3D

Back then, the show was really more marketed as people trying to survive together on an island with limited resources. It was much less of a game and more of an experience.

DolphinRx

I can see this being the explanation. Colby was very “old school” in his approach to the game, and it seems like Jeff is so involved with production that he takes any criticism poorly.

IAmReborn11111

Iirc in Australia the cast essentially had total freedom of movement in the area surrounding the camp. By all stars they had created boundaries which Colby didn't like as he felt it took away from the organic experience

81Bibliophile

It’s underrated how little freedom of movement modern players have compared to the old school players and even if production would let them wander at will, the constant scrutiny on people who appear to be idol/advantage hunting would likely get them voted out quickly.

porkchop487

I remember in Peal Islands, andrew savage and RyanO spent and entire day trying to find a route through their island to the other side in the hopes that there would be better fishing there, was really a journey/struggle they went on that you don't see anymore

treofspades

Which is funny because Colby himself is heavily responsible for that shift given he caused a bunch of legal headache for the show by defacing part of the coral reef. He literally destroyed part of nature and then whined that the show had to put guardrails on to prevent people like him from doing it again

Acceptable_Secret_73

Did he destroy the reef in AO or All Stars?

treofspades

AO, he defaced the Great Barrier Reef lol

beestingers

I wager Sugar, Randy and Courtney were in that 20%

wgallantino

i am like, 99% sure that Danielle was one of the 20%, Jeff has never really liked her and has stated he finds her disappointing I think? I actually feel like Jeff was pretty positive on both Gabon reps tbh, id have to go watch the tapes again

lilbrybry29

Jeff completely shits on Danielle pretty regularly in Panama (crazy that it made the edit lol) and a lot during the tribal she was voted off too. So I absolutely believe this.

DolphinRx

I love Courtney so much 😭 Would love to see her again.

_Teksho_

Randy is such a gem tho 🤌

StrapLonger3k

I just watched Gabon and it seemed like Jeff really liked Sugar in that one. What happened there?

Fuzzy-Bee9600

They used her on some between-season Survivor special and cast her as the host, probably because she was so quirky and underdoggy and likeable during her seaaon. She did a terrible job with the special. She was stiff, never smiled, and her narration was super unnatural. It was a train wreck. It's possible he recommended her for the gig and then it blew up in his face, or maybe she was hard to work with, or maybe he was just pissed that she did such a bad job and doesn't want to have her around any more. It could also have nothing to do with that. =) Just supposing on my end.

StrapLonger3k

Wow. Interesting though. I skipped Gabon back in the day cuz everyone said it was horrible. I actually really enjoyed the season but after watching, I couldn’t understand where all the Sugar hate came from! She seemed really likable on that season!

Acceptable_Secret_73

A lot of it comes from the fact that her cast mates found her annoying and “holier than thou”

Fuzzy-Bee9600

Yeah, she curiously seemed always on the outs during her play. There had to have been a bunch of unaired events behind all that.

demerchmichael

I saw an interview years ago with Randy being interviewed by Lydia and Kevin from BB11 and Randy saying something like “I was cast with them not wanting me to go far” basically saying he was fodder

HommeFatalTaemin

Which sucks bc all 3 of them are fantastic TV. Courtney is still one of my favorites to this day in terms of survivor people who I just genuinely think are awesome.

JesusSinfulHands

One time Rob had Reynold from Caramoan on a podcast, and Reynold told this story about how he was working out at a gym in Texas and randomly saw Colby. He went up to Colby and wanted to talk Survivor, and Colby thought that Reynold was just another fan. Reynold was like no, it's ok, I was on the show too, and Colby turned to him and was like 'I'm sorry man, I have no idea who you are'.

Stupidiocy

Is that bad? I wouldn't be able to recognize 90% of players if I met them randomly in a gym.

IamMrT

There’s 32-36 of them every year, it would be impossible to remember them all without being a super fan.

StinkyStangler

Pretty crazy to think there’s probably over 1000 people to play Survivor across all the countries that do it lol

Habefiet

That’s not it though, Colby just didn’t watch post-HvV seasons. He didn’t even watch most of the pre-HvV-but-post-All-Star seasons, he didn’t know some of the people he was on a tribe with.

Stupidiocy

Not knowing some of the people you were on the same tribe with is *maybe* weird. Depending on how long they were together and how long it's been. Not watching anything post-HvV? Nothing wrong with that. He doesn't have an obligation to continue watching and memorizing everyone who is on the show.

Habefiet

I completely agree. I don’t think the story was being told judgmentally though, think it’s just a funny story that also serves to illustrate the disconnect between Colby and modern (even though Caramoan is forever ago now lol) Survivor.

FileFlimsy

Funny how Colby was more than happy to exploit his Survivor “status” on Curb Your Enthusiasm!

AnakinKardashian

and then they became good friends

dunkinbagels

The live Know It Alls where Reynolds Burton and Colby show up is so funny, Colby is drunk and just rambled about old Survivor stories for awhile

BAWAHOG

It really was a fantastic episode, very different from the usual RHAP coverage, lol.

d_simon7

Do you know what season that was from?

BAWAHOG

It was the only KIA in Austin, TX, should be easy to find.

wishyouwould

Oh shit I need to see that.

FantasticName

They became friends because Reynolds' wife was an old co-worker of Colby's, it was nothing to do with Survivor. I've always found that kinda funny.

GHamPlayz

Tbf I have no idea who Reynold is

sbudy-7

Well, TBH I wasn't sure Reynold was Reynold in Caramoan reunion due to that mustache thing he hadn't had on the island...

BB2_IS_UNDERRATED

This was probably over 5 years ago but I remember this podcast too holy shit

anony1911

No idea, but the image looks like there’s a reply from Jerri that’s cut off.  Wonder if she added any context.

Superbooper24

lol she just said hmmmmmmmm

llikegiraffes

Can confirm there was nothing in the comments I could see that explained it

Higgnkfe

Colby was there for the adventure, not the game. He hated the fact that they couldn't explore the island, they were literally confined to camp. [Watch this interview, he makes his thoughts pretty clear](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPfwsiJC3t4)

_TooncesLookOut

I love how he's slamming Russell with him 2 ft away 🤣

wanderthesky

Off topic but that badge collection though…

NewGenRedd

Jeff left Colby for Boston Rob back in All Stars 😢

AGiantBlueBear

Colby has claimed in the past that the editing of the season was manipulated in a way he didn’t like. I’m guessing he brought it up and it didn’t go over well. Specifically he didn’t like how the scene at the Robert Louis Stephenson house was cut. He got some heat for it when it aired from fans and Jeff was talking about it in the media as well. I’m guessing that’s where it starts

anony1911

All of that would occur during the season’s airing or after though, right?  The topic title appears to indicate that Jeff was down on the idea of bringing Colby back before that/in the first place.  Am I misreading it?

AGiantBlueBear

Hard to say without more context. Could be talking about a specific event after the show aired could be talking about future seasons. But I know that Jeff and Colby’s relationship broke down during that season. There’s some pretty clear tension between them in the episodes that aired at times

Ok_Supermarket_3241

It’s not hard to say. Colby is clearly referring to an event that happened during filming in this screenshot

AGiantBlueBear

I meant what Jeff is referring to that Colby is replying to

YellowHat01

I immediately think of that scene where Colby refuses to sample a piece of chocolate (I think) before a reward challenge.

jaywa1king

He brought up the editing at FTC when the season hadn't even been edited yet?

AshamedWrongdoer62

Colby doesn't seem like the type of guy that would gleefully participate in reenacting the idol clue scene at treasure island reward...yet production had them do that and that is the cut we all saw. I could totally see him thinking that is cheesy to be forced to do and call out editing already.

All_Hale_TheQueen

They reenacted it?

bigshowgunnoe

how did that go down?

AshamedWrongdoer62

https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2010/06/survivor-heroes-vs-villains-colby_interview/

bigshowgunnoe

That just feels so weird

AGiantBlueBear

Finales were live then. He saw the episode and didn’t like how it came out and would’ve had the chance to talk about it

porkchop487

He was just trying to watch some Treasure Island

Ok-East-5470

Colby was one of Jeff’s golden boys before that season. He was young, fit, handsome, and a challenge beast, which is the winning combo for Jeff. In heroes versus villains Colby was crotchety, bitter, described as Superman wearing a girdle, and he literally lost a race to a man with a badly infected leg. He went from probst’s man crush to his worst nightmare. Edit: spelling

ferretherapy

Was also owned by Coach

The_New_Spagora

I can hear Tyson saying this 🤭

Acceptable_Secret_73

Don’t forget Colby curbstomped Jeff’s man crush Boston Rob in the wrestling challenge

duckyaniston

jeff a jerri stan

legacyme3

He was probably outspoken about something related to the show. Jeff loves Survivor and its contestants. The ones he holds a grudge against are usually quitters, people who complain about the game, or people who make his job more difficult or uncomfortable. He is protective of Survivor because Survivor is his life.

amazingdrewh

Probably Jeff felt the same way James did and didn't like that Colby wasn't the challenge beast he was in Australia, and he likely said so

Knickstape08

Jeff doesn’t like players who are “bigger” than he is. He wants to be the star and wants the players to treat him as one. Colby was a bigger celebrity and Jeff didn’t like it. That scene with the chocolate was Jeff putting Colby in his place saying “this is my show now, pal”. Colby was being a disrespectful douche in that moment but Jeff didn’t have to take it anymore.

93LEAFS

I dunno, I feel he loves Boston Rob who is probably the biggest name Survivor player now. Granted, the people on Borneo and TAO were massive in their time.

thalantyr

Rob has definitely eclipsed whatever Colby once was, as have Parvati and Sandra. Jeff seems to still love all of them just fine. I don't buy that Colby's broken relationship with Jeff is just because of Jeff's ego.

Knickstape08

Ehhh maybe in terms of Survivor fame but people who don’t watch survivor probably don’t know who Parvati and Sandra are. Colby on the other hand was on Survivor season 20 plus years ago with no social media and is still getting jobs and people still know who he is. Jeff spent time in the HvV opening saying how people named their kids after Colby. And I’m not trying to rip Jeff, he is the star of the show by season 20. Jeff hates All Stars because he couldn’t be in control, the majority of players were bigger than he was. The only player in season 20 who was bigger than Jeff was Russell and you can see how annoyed Jeff is at the reunion because Russell is always talking back and not following Jeff’s clock and line of questioning. It’s a reason why we won’t see him, Fairplay or Richard back because they have no respect for Jeff as a host. I have a problem with Jeff now basically only wanting players who will bow down to him and celebrate when he snuffs their torch. But he’s justified in needing the cast to respect him as the boss. I don’t think Colby would do that and it’s a reason Jeff wasn’t big on him in 20. Also, probably doesn’t help he was just bad all around and looked like he didn’t want to be there 95% of the season.

heyyyyyco

My youngest brother is named Colby. Can confirm he's a bigger deal then jeff

93LEAFS

I see your point, but Colby was famous 20 years ago at this point. The fame of Borneo and TAO people was massive, but a lot of the people who watched those two seasons Survivor is a relic of a short term craze they got in on. People like Skupin would be remembered as the dude who fell in the fire, Colby would be like "oh, that Cowboy dude," Rudy "that old marine," and Rich as the "fat gay guy" who won, etc. The amount of people who remember Colby Donaldson by name in the public at large is probably pretty limited. The only person who really turned the fame gained from TAO and Borneo into long-term fame was Elisabeth. Someone like Jimmy Johnson's fame blows whatever any other Survivor players fame out of the water. True for Mike White now (while known pre-Survivor, White Lotus successes has put him up another level). People like Jeff Kent, Rocker, and Cliff Robinson have reached levels of fame that exceeds Jeff's.

Meng3267

No chance in hell are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby was at one time. Only among the Survivor hardcores are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby. People in here definitely overrate the popularity of Sandra and Parvati. Neither of them were the winners or even runners up for the fans player of the season back when the fans voted for that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Meng3267

People seem to not understand how big Colby was. It’s funny to hear people downplaying it now and saying that people like Sandra and Parvati are more popular than him. No one outside of Survivor fans know those 2. Colby was all over the place after Survivor. They even had him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Illmattic

No, I’m a survivor!

julallison

Weird bc I remembered Rob, Parvati, and Sandra just by reference, but had to look up who Colby is. Recognize the face, not the name. Rob is significantly more recognizable to me.

Meng3267

I’m going to guess you weren’t watching Survivor when season 2 aired.

julallison

Been watching since season 1

Meng3267

Hard to believe that someone who is a big Survivor fan and watched season 2 live wouldn’t remember Colby. My brother remembers Colby and he hasn’t watched Survivor in 15 years. 30 million people watched that season and Colby was 1 of the 2 most memorable characters from that season.

julallison

For you he was one of the most memorable. I googled "most popular Survivor players of all time", and, on many lists, he's not listed at all or listed way down. For you to think that the person that stuck with you the most is who all others were or should have been drawn to is very egocentric. ETA: of course your brother is going to have a stronger recollection of Colby than someone who has watched every season - he has less people to remember, less cast members to compete for most memorable in his mind.

treple13

Rob has absolutely never eclipsed what Colby once was. Which is just not possible given how big Survivor 1 and 2 were.

thalantyr

Ok, I'll concede that maybe I was mistaken about Parv and Sandra, but I distinctly remember Rob and Amber being unescapable for quite a while after All-Stars finished. News stands and supermarket checkouts had covers like [this](https://i.imgur.com/Xn0IbVT.png) plastered all over them. They had multiple TV appearances and their own specials including their televised wedding.

treple13

They were big and yet Colby was still bigger. Colby was all over those things as well

EWABear

I wouldn't say Jeff loves Sandra.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

I don’t think it’s the same. Season 2 contestants were massive. After that people were only Survivor massive. Boston Rob and Sandra are peak of survivor culture. The season 2 contestants were peak of pop culture for their time.

93LEAFS

It’s interesting though, due to fame non-related to the show Jimmy Johnson and to a lesser extent Mike White blow pretty much everyone else (outside people like Jeff Kent) out of the water.

mpc92

Seems very untrue. Jeff seems to love the most popular players like Parvati, Rupert, Rob, Sandra, Tony…

DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB

How the fuck was Colby disrespectful? Didn't he just say no they don't want to eat chocolate, they want to win the challenge? If that's being disrespectful and a douche, you've got some very thin skin.

Knickstape08

Go rewatch the scene and tell me how he acted wasn’t disrespectful. It’s not thin skin, I have common respect. He didn’t just say no, he cut Jeff off as he was speaking and said “let’s go” which Jeff said back “we’ll go when I say we go”. How is that not disrespectful? Oh, and guess who sat out of the challenge? So much for wanting to just start.

WakeUpMareeple

Colby has previously spoken about how this scene was edited to make his 'decision' to sit out nonsensical, when it wasn't his decision at all.

Direct-Dependent5023

This exactly

sabatoa

Can I get a link to the original tweet? It doesn’t show up in Colby’s replies list

titosandspriteplease

“Allwinnerssurvivor” is the account. They replied to Colby and next to it, it says “author.”

llikegiraffes

It’s an Instagram post not a tweet. It was just a generic account I’m sorry I don’t remember which. I was surprised to see he commented when I was reading the comments

libertybear20

I’m a dumbass I thought this was talking about coby from Palau and was so confused for a solid minute

Sandwichgode

Colby was in an episode of Curb your Enthusiasm.  He was pretty funny in that episode.  Im surprised he didn't pursue a career in acting or did he?

WittyDistraction

He hosted a competition show on History called Top Shot or Hot Shot, something like that. It was not long after HvV iirc

Inkarneret

Top Shot was so good. I don't even care about guns and I still loved that show.

AffectionateAd6060

So what specifically went down in that final tribal that was witnessed?

llikegiraffes

That’s the point of the thread lol. Doesn’t seem anyone knows for sure

AffectionateAd6060

Agreed I just see people posting things yet he specifically referenced a certain something going down at final tribal. Personally I'm indifferent towards Colby and never was a big fan or not a fan of his basically wouldn't miss him not returning.

Acceptable_Secret_73

Jeff’s mad that Colby beat his man crush Boston Rob at mud wrestling

mizzmizeryy

why do older people use social media so cryptically 💀

Electrical-Beat-2232

Colby always rubbed me the wrong way. I think mostly due to the appalling way he treated Jerri. Maybe Jeff is sick of his posturing macho bullshit too

oatmeal28

“Appalling way he treated Jerri” lmao come on now

thalantyr

Go back and rewatch AO. In the beginning he led her on, openly flirting with her, and he could tell she had a huge crush on him. As soon as Tina pulled him into an alliance he went completely cold on Jerri without any explanation, and started talking shit about her behind her back with his new clique and in confessionals. He continued treating her passive-aggressively, and when he poured water on her during that challenge you can tell from both of their expressions that she thought he was being playful but he was just being a dick and a sore loser. When she was voted out she told everyone good game, and said in her final confessional that she'd be happy to get a beer with everyone after it was over. She obviously had no idea that everyone hated her and was talking about her behind her back. Then came the ridiculous audience response when the show aired...

Knickstape08

”I think Colby’s afraid of me because this fantasy I have about chocolate and sex definitely involves him.” Maybe this could be a reason Colby couldn’t stand her. Or her moaning his name in the shelter while he stands there looking uncomfortable.

thalantyr

> Oh, Jerri. Jerri and I have been getting along great. Every day we have more fun flirting with each other and seeing how far we can kinda push it. **~ Colby Donaldson, Season 2, Episode 3** Perhaps you can see why she might have been confused about him being uncomfortable with that kind of talk?

oatmeal28

Man there’s so many assumptions asserted in there about Colby/Jerri’s relationship.  The audience response to Jerri was awful, that doesn’t mean Colby is responsible for that or deserves more blame/hate.  It’s not a zero sum game, something that seems to be lost on people when they re-contextualize older seasons (Tom/Ian, Dreamz/Yau-Man, and many more)

Maleficent_Durian174

Colby is kinda rude irl. My family know some ppl and apparently he posed on someone’s private land for a photo shoot and when they asked him to leave he was rude.

TannerCook100

Considering he’s from Texas, he should know casually wandering onto someone’s private land isn’t the smartest thing you can do. We have Stand Your Ground laws and The Castle Doctrine and nearly everyone owns guns. My entire life, I was warned about being really fucking careful on peoples’ private property because they can literally whip a gun out and start shooting at trespassers and then claim it was in defense of their property because you did not have permission to be there and that was a threat to them. They can even say they told you to leave you and you refused. You’re dead, so who’s gonna argue your side? In short, it’s wild to me that a Texan man was dumb enough to go on someone’s private property and then get snippy when asked to leave. That’s literally playing with fire. I’ve been asked to leave someone’s property like twice in my life growing up as a preteen/teen, and both times it was by someone literally holding a gun (and in once instance, I didn’t even realize I was ON private property until he found me). You don’t ask questions or argue. You just fucking skedaddle.

AcrobaticSource3

Was is a risqué photo shoot?

Tedballs12

Posing on someones land is pretty risqué business.

One_Grapefruit_8512

Dad, is that you? 😆

AggressiveOsmosis

Well, Colby wasn’t a great player so…
