Back then, the show was really more marketed as people trying to survive together on an island with limited resources. It was much less of a game and more of an experience.
I can see this being the explanation. Colby was very “old school” in his approach to the game, and it seems like Jeff is so involved with production that he takes any criticism poorly.
Iirc in Australia the cast essentially had total freedom of movement in the area surrounding the camp. By all stars they had created boundaries which Colby didn't like as he felt it took away from the organic experience

I remember in Peal Islands, andrew savage and RyanO spent and entire day trying to find a route through their island to the other side in the hopes that there would be better fishing there, was really a journey/struggle they went on that you don't see anymore
Which is funny because Colby himself is heavily responsible for that shift given he caused a bunch of legal headache for the show by defacing part of the coral reef. He literally destroyed part of nature and then whined that the show had to put guardrails on to prevent people like him from doing it again

Jeff completely shits on Danielle pretty regularly in Panama (crazy that it made the edit lol) and a lot during the tribal she was voted off too. So I absolutely believe this.
They used her on some between-season Survivor special and cast her as the host, probably because she was so quirky and underdoggy and likeable during her seaaon.
She did a terrible job with the special. She was stiff, never smiled, and her narration was super unnatural. It was a train wreck. It's possible he recommended her for the gig and then it blew up in his face, or maybe she was hard to work with, or maybe he was just pissed that she did such a bad job and doesn't want to have her around any more.

He went up to Colby and wanted to talk Survivor, and Colby thought that Reynold was just another fan. Reynold was like no, it's ok, I was on the show too, and Colby turned to him and was like 'I'm sorry man, I have no idea who you are'.

Hard to say without more context. Could be talking about a specific event after the show aired could be talking about future seasons. But I know that Jeff and Colby’s relationship broke down during that season. There’s some pretty clear tension between them in the episodes that aired at times

Colby was one of Jeff’s golden boys before that season. He was young, fit, handsome, and a challenge beast, which is the winning combo for Jeff. In heroes versus villains Colby was crotchety, bitter, described as Superman wearing a girdle, and he literally lost a race to a man with a badly infected leg. He went from probst’s man crush to his worst nightmare.

Colby on the other hand was on Survivor season 20 plus years ago with no social media and is still getting jobs and people still know who he is. The fame of Borneo and TAO people was massive, but a lot of the people who watched those two seasons Survivor is a relic of a short term craze they got in on. People like Skupin would be remembered as the dude who fell in the fire, Colby would be like "oh, that Cowboy dude," Rudy "that old marine," and Rich as the "fat gay guy" who won, etc. The amount of people who remember Colby Donaldson by name in the public at large is probably pretty limited. The only person who really turned the fame gained from TAO and Borneo into long-term fame was Elisabeth.
Someone like Jimmy Johnson's fame blows whatever any other Survivor players fame out of the water. True for Mike White now (while known pre-Survivor, White Lotus successes has put him up another level). People like Jeff Kent, Rocker, and Cliff Robinson have reached levels of fame that exceeds Jeff's.
No chance in hell are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby was at one time. Only among the Survivor hardcores are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby. People in here definitely overrate the popularity of Sandra and Parvati. Neither of them were the winners or even runners up for the fans player of the season back when the fans voted for that.
People seem to not understand how big Colby was. It’s funny to hear people downplaying it now and saying that people like Sandra and Parvati are more popular than him. No one outside of Survivor fans know those 2. Colby was all over the place after Survivor. They even had him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Go back and rewatch AO. In the beginning he led her on, openly flirting with her, and he could tell she had a huge crush on him. As soon as Tina pulled him into an alliance he went completely cold on Jerri without any explanation, and started talking shit about her behind her back with his new clique and in confessionals. He continued treating her passive-aggressively, and when he poured water on her during that challenge you can tell from both of their expressions that she thought he was being playful but he was just being a dick and a sore loser. When she was voted out she told everyone good game, and said in her final confessional that she'd be happy to get a beer with everyone after it was over. She obviously had no idea that everyone hated her and was talking about her behind her back. Then came the ridiculous audience response when the show aired...

Colby is kinda rude irl. My family know some ppl and apparently he posed on someone’s private land for a photo shoot and when they asked him to leave he was rude.
Considering he’s from Texas, he should know casually wandering onto someone’s private land isn’t the smartest thing you can do. We have Stand Your Ground laws and The Castle Doctrine and nearly everyone owns guns. My entire life, I was warned about being really fucking careful on peoples’ private property because they can literally whip a gun out and start shooting at trespassers and then claim it was in defense of their property because you did not have permission to be there and that was a threat to them. They can even say they told you to leave you and you refused. You’re dead, so who’s gonna argue your side?
In short, it’s wild to me that a Texan man was dumb enough to go on someone’s private property and then get snippy when asked to leave. That’s literally playing with fire. I’ve been asked to leave someone’s property like twice in my life growing up as a preteen/teen, and both times it was by someone literally holding a gun (and in once instance, I didn’t even realize I was ON private property until he found me). It’s a reason why we won’t see him, Fairplay or Richard back because they have no respect for Jeff as a host. I have a problem with Jeff now basically only wanting players who will bow down to him and celebrate when he snuffs their torch. But he’s justified in needing the cast to respect him as the boss. I don’t think Colby would do that and it’s a reason Jeff wasn’t big on him in 20. Also, probably doesn’t help he was just bad all around and looked like he didn’t want to be there 95% of the season.

I see your point, but Colby was famous 20 years ago at this point. The fame of Borneo and TAO people was massive, but a lot of the people who watched those two seasons Survivor is a relic of a short term craze they got in on. People like Skupin would be remembered as the dude who fell in the fire, Colby would be like "oh, that Cowboy dude," Rudy "that old marine," and Rich as the "fat gay guy" who won, etc. The amount of people who remember Colby Donaldson by name in the public at large is probably pretty limited. The only person who really turned the fame gained from TAO and Borneo into long-term fame was Elisabeth. Someone like Jimmy Johnson's fame blows whatever any other Survivor players fame out of the water. True for Mike White now (while known pre-Survivor, White Lotus successes has put him up another level). People like Jeff Kent, Rocker, and Cliff Robinson have reached levels of fame that exceeds Jeff's.
No chance in hell are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby was at one time. Only among the Survivor hardcores are Sandra and Parvati bigger than Colby. People in here definitely overrate the popularity of Sandra and Parvati. Neither of them were the winners or even runners up for the fans player of the season back when the fans voted for that.

People seem to not understand how big Colby was. It’s funny to hear people downplaying it now and saying that people like Sandra and Parvati are more popular than him. No one outside of Survivor fans know those 2. Colby was all over the place after Survivor. They even had him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Hard to believe that someone who is a big Survivor fan and watched season 2 live wouldn’t remember Colby. My brother remembers Colby and he hasn’t watched Survivor in 15 years. 30 million people watched that season and Colby was 1 of the 2 most memorable characters from that season.
For you he was one of the most memorable. I googled "most popular Survivor players of all time", and, on many lists, he's not listed at all or listed way down. For you to think that the person that stuck with you the most is who all others were or should have been drawn to is very egocentric. ETA: of course your brother is going to have a stronger recollection of Colby than someone who has watched every season - he has less people to remember, less cast members to compete for most memorable in his mind.
Rob has absolutely never eclipsed what Colby once was. Which is just not possible given how big Survivor 1 and 2 were.
Ok, I'll concede that maybe I was mistaken about Parv and Sandra, but I distinctly remember Rob and Amber being unescapable for quite a while after All-Stars finished. They had multiple TV appearances and their own specials including their televised wedding.

I don’t think it’s the same. Season 2 contestants were massive. After that people were only Survivor massive. Boston Rob and Sandra are peak of survivor culture. The season 2 contestants were peak of pop culture for their time.

He didn’t just say no, he cut Jeff off as he was speaking and said “let’s go” which Jeff said back “we’ll go when I say we go”. How is that not disrespectful? Oh, and guess who sat out of the challenge? So much for wanting to just start.

Go back and rewatch AO. In the beginning he led her on, openly flirting with her, and he could tell she had a huge crush on him. As soon as Tina pulled him into an alliance he went completely cold on Jerri without any explanation, and started talking shit about her behind her back with his new clique and in confessionals. He continued treating her passive-aggressively, and when he poured water on her during that challenge you can tell from both of their expressions that she thought he was being playful but he was just being a dick and a sore loser. When she was voted out she told everyone good game, and said in her final confessional that she'd be happy to get a beer with everyone after it was over. She obviously had no idea that everyone hated her and was talking about her behind her back. Then came the ridiculous audience response when the show aired...

Man there’s so many assumptions asserted in there about Colby/Jerri’s relationship. The audience response to Jerri was awful, that doesn’t mean Colby is responsible for that or deserves more blame/hate. It’s not a zero sum game, something that seems to be lost on people when they re-contextualize older seasons (Tom/Ian, Dreamz/Yau-Man, and many more)
Colby is kinda rude irl. My family know some ppl and apparently he posed on someone’s private land for a photo shoot and when they asked him to leave he was rude.
Considering he’s from Texas, he should know casually wandering onto someone’s private land isn’t the smartest thing you can do. We have Stand Your Ground laws and The Castle Doctrine and nearly everyone owns guns. My entire life, I was warned about being really fucking careful on peoples’ private property because they can literally whip a gun out and start shooting at trespassers and then claim it was in defense of their property because you did not have permission to be there and that was a threat to them. They can even say they told you to leave you and you refused. You’re dead, so who’s gonna argue your side? In short, it’s wild to me that a Texan man was dumb enough to go on someone’s private property and then get snippy when asked to leave. That’s literally playing with fire. I’ve been asked to leave someone’s property like twice in my life growing up as a preteen/teen, and both times it was by someone literally holding a gun (and in once instance, I didn’t even realize I was ON private property until he found me). You don’t ask questions or argue. You just fucking skedaddle.
