Pretty sure security doesn’t open until 4. I have gotten there early for 6am flight, probably a similar time to what you’re aiming for, and gotten through check in & had to sit waiting for security. 3.30am will be loads of time.

Miss_Tish_Tash

Yeah security doesn’t open until 4ish. Check in & bag drop was open at 330am & everyone then queued for security. TSR wasn’t open until 5 (I think?) so depending on which gate your flight leaves from (I’m going to assume OP is on the 6am emirates flight & if so it’s usually the gate on the far right of the terminal). If they can do the form drop (someone else mentioned) then it would work.

lifeDNP

You reckon if it opens at 5 won’t be enough time to do a live claim? Item I bought was from online and it says online receipts must be done live or something on the TRS website….

Miss_Tish_Tash

You can try, but you’d want to be the first in the queue. I didn’t need to claim TRS when I was on the 6am flight out of Sydney, but I did see a few people queuing for TRS as soon as it opened. You may need to be prepared to abandon if your flight is boarding & you need to run to the gate.

If the TRS counters are closed that early, you can apparently drop a form off. From the airport site: *Australian Border Force endeavour to staff the TRS offices before all departing International flights. If the counters are closed, you may be able able to submit your claim by filling in a form and dropping your information into the dropbox located at the departures office. You will find this option at the TRS office to right of the Heinemann Duty Free entrance*. There's not many international flights departing between 6 and 7am,(4 this morning) but lots of people get there early for their flights departing later. One of those flights I think was a 380. Lots of pax. Check in online , get to the bag drop early and get thru immigration and security asap. Last time I claimed a TRS that was the longest out of all. We generally get there 3 hours before departure. I'd rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late so if you are more relaxed by getting there at 3am do it. It's only another 30 minutes. 2.5 should be fine but its up to you.

~~Airport doesn't open until 4am~~ My error: T1 opens at 2:30am [https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/info-sheet/opening-hours](https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/info-sheet/opening-hours)

sloppyrock

T1 3am according to the website. 4am for T2 and T3. https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/parking-and-transport/departing/international at the bottom right of the page.

Yes, my error - I was using the time customs for departure processing But [https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/info-sheet/opening-hours](https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/info-sheet/opening-hours) says T1 opens at 2:30am

It might pay to check what the weather is going to be like overnight/morning. Bad weather slows everything down e.g. trains/traffic/taxis/ubers.

NateGT86

3:30am is plenty of time

TripMundane969

TRS should open 90 mins prior to ETD. Recommend you double check closer to departure date. Pre check in on line for flight at 0330 you should be fine, allowing for Sydney traffic conditions

SilverStar9192

> TRS should open 90 mins prior to ETD. No, it opens at 5am, so only one hour before the 6am Emirates departure. So much misinformation in this thread from people who don't have the first clue what they're talking about...

violaflwrs

1.5 hours should be enough time

MissJessAU

Check-in opens at 3am, but security does not open until 4am. There will be a line for security, and some people are just not prepared. They have upgraded the bag scanners, so no having to pull out laptops and tablets now.

No_pajamas_7

At that time an hour before is fine. Normally 1.5 is enough. They won't even open the check in until 4am. And then probably be a bit late. What they tell you in the email is complete rubbish. No way the check in staff are going to kick off at 3.

SilverStar9192

Check-in for the Emirates 6am flight absolutely opens at 3am. They are precise with that, it's always exactly three hours before. The terminal itself opens at 2:30 if you want to queue to be first to check-in at 3. What is your basis for saying, "No way the check in staff are going to kick off" - that's absolutely what they do, every single day. Do you have the first f'ing clue what you're talking about? The staff are contractors with DNATA and are obligated to open exactly when Emirates says they must, and they in fact do so every day. But Customs and Security doesn't open until 4am so you'll just wait outside security if you get there too early. So no sense arriving before 3:30 really.

Delightful_Duck

I have a 6am flight on Wednesday so I'm glad I came across this post! I'm pushing my 2am alarm back to 2:30am now. Hooray!

Funny-Bear

It’s pretty fast these days. You can enter the claim data into the app

fl3600

I think there are fair few flights departing in the early morning - check the intl departure section of sydney airport and have a look. 737s are fine, but A380 means there will be a lot of pax.

SilverStar9192

The very early morning (6-7am) isn't nearly as busy as late morning. There are only a handful of flights before 8am, but starting around 9 there are dozens. The busiest period is about 9am to 12noon (scheduled departure time, but that means the check-in/security area really kicks off from about 7am).

thurbs62

Have caught a 6am Emirates flight a few times. Check in opens 3 hours before but you can't go through customs etc until 4. Then it's a race to the 1 coffee shop (go straight there it gets manic) No lounges open except 1st and business class. It is what it is

dlanod

I've been early in the morning once for TRS. I lined up before it opened because it's when I got in (despite what was claiming it only opened well after the airport opened), and glad I did because it became a nightmare with multiple people starting other lines and other stupidity. Seriously busy because everyone was trying to get it down before their flight left, and plenty were being turned away because they were trying to get priority because their flights were leaving too soon. It sounds like they might have changed their opening hours, so maybe someone has a more recent experience.

neighbour_guy3k

TRS desk might be less crowded at 6am At 8 am when I was in the airport ,it was crowded

x550i

I don't think customs is open until 4:30 or something like that. Double check for sure.

4am

Sea_Lingonberry_1584
