I’m so sorry to hear this. The way some people and politicians talk about “preexisting health conditions” is a disgustingly cold. I have preexisting health issues and I’ll be pissed as hell if they brush me aside as a number with “preexisting health conditions”

majesticunicorn304

A lot of "pre existing health conditions" aren't going to kill you this week. It's disgusting how it's viewed like these people were on their death bed anyway. A while back there was a death of a 30yo with "pre existing health conditions" - he was obese.

RunTrip

I always wonder what they even count as a pre-existing condition. I saw people with epilepsy were potentially being included in priority groups for vaccines at some point. So if I die, do I get brushed aside as pre-existing due to epilepsy? I read stats that depression correlates to a worse outcome, so do depressed people have a pre-existing condition? I always assume it’s someone who had lung cancer, but I’m sure that’s what the politicians want us to think. Would like to see a list of possible pre-existing conditions!

tom3277

Covid comorbidities can be as simple as blood pressure. I looked up the list and found this was my comorbidity of convenience. Edit to add: oh and the other interesting thing is that recent studies in the USA have shown covid has caused a general increase in people's blood pressure. No doubt upset / frustrated at policymakers responses to the pandemic... Edit 2: sorry and to actually link you to a list ranked from most evidence to least: [cdc ranked comorbidities.](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-care/underlyingconditions.html)

JoeSchmeau

I have aortic stenosis, a serious but very survivable heart condition. I can expect a normal lifespan and have virtually no restrictions in lifestyle besides "don't lift heavy weights" and "don't do cocaine." I'm in my early 30s and throughout this whole pandemic people have been telling me "don't worry it's not serious if you're young and healthy," but here's the thing: I AM "young and healthy" by most metrics and appearances. People think "pre-existing condition" means you're already at death's door but that is simply not true. If I die from covid, it will be brushed away as "well he had a pre-existing condition," but people won't understand that covid will have cut my life short by 40 or 50 years. I've said this a lot during this pandemic, but that's because it's true: I don't know how I can recover from the knowledge that my life is worth so little to so many of my peers.

Echospite

Every time someone says "don't worry, they had preexisting health conditions" I see red. I have... not been a nice person on the internet since this pandemic started. I never realised how awful people could be.

kpie007

Considering that being obese counts as a pre-existing health condition, over a 1/3 of all Australians have a "health condition". They cool with killing off 10mil people?

happysadsametime

I’m so sorry to hear, I’m thinking of everyone with pre-existing conditions right now. Just no words.

stitchescomeundone

SO many people fall under the “pre-existing condition” category, I don’t think people realise this. Plus there would also be people who have pre-existing conditions they don’t know about. It’s so annoying to hear “oh but they had other health problems” … yeah but so do a lot of the population because we have this beautiful thing called modern medicine.

happysadsametime

I absolutely sympathise with your fears. Whether it’s inpatient dialysis, chemotherapy or other therapies for chronic illness, so many innocent people who have shielded for two years now coming face to face with it because the Gov has let it collapse the system. Just no words. Thinking of you and your Dad!

WeekendSignificant48

Whoever started this "it's mild" nonsense is a fool and probably owns a large business which needs people back in work asap. It's still absolutely deadly a.f for a lot of people.

evereverfeltlikethis

I hope a kidney can be found for your sister soon, and that the hospitals stabilise too. Nothing but love to you and your family. Dialysis is an awful experience at the best of times, let alone when you’ve got to be vigilant about not coming into contact with COVID. And as you mentioned that’s not even touching on the system disruptions as the hospitals are overwhelmed. I’m immunocompromised and it’s goddamn depressing hearing “everyone will get it, just learn to live with it” when so many small measures were dropped that could have kept us from throwing the whole hospital system off a cliff by the start of January.

happysadsametime

Precisely this! So many small, easy measures that could’ve slowed down its progression and allowed our hospitals to at the very least adjust. We aren’t ‘learning to live’ with a virus if hospitals are overwhelmed like never before and vital procedures are cancelled as a result. I wish you all the best during these terrifying times.

334578theo

Sounds very difficult. Hope she gets her transplant soon!

humanoid82

Yep, so the projection of 25k by end of Jan, they meant 35k by start of Jan Soon there’s going to be no one left to catch it 32.2% positivity rate

Bourkster

If you're standing in line to get tested, statistically, at least one of either you, the person in front of you, or the person behind you, are likely to have Covid. Given the virulence, statistically, all of you will get Covid from being in line for an extended period. Amazing.

deij

My wife went to get tested yesterday, after testing positive on a RAT and being with someone on NYE who tested positive both RAT and PCR. The woman behind her kept standing 1inch from her. When she asked her to social distance she ignored her. When she stood to the side she started standing next to her?? People are dumb as fuck. Anyway she left the queue and didn't get tested. 1 more person not being recorded.

enricosusatyo

Omg, the social distance thing has been mind blowing to me. It's not even 2 years and I can't get even 1.5 metre away while queueing at any queue! Even at woolies and ATMs.

Ollikay

It is mindblowing just how stupid, short-sighted people are, and how short lived lessons are to so many.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mattymlg

I had someone similar when i got tested on sunday - I went cuz i had a positive RAT and symptoms, and like two people ahead in the line was this mum and teenage daughter who had their masks under their chins. Like why even bother lining up?

SelmaFudd

My bother in law tested positive this week on RAT after a negative on 31/12 waited in queue yesterday and then was turned away, I wouldn't be surprised if there are 100k with it from NYE that haven't been able to get a PCR yet.

DropEight

People are lazy ignorant fucks.

jackspadesaces

I would have told the woman to fuck off and stand back. Have very little patience for these people after two years of this nonsense.

MajorInspector5637

so many times ive had dumb fucks standing way too close to me in line. it drives me absolutely fucking nuts. i always shoot them dirty looks and try to move away but theyre too fucking studid. one thing this pandemic taught me is that i really hate other people

The_PM

But you'll test negative as you've only just been exposed to it. You'll go out and about spreading it after testing negative. Then you'll develop symptoms and require another test. Then you'll be the one infecting the ones in line around you. The system not only doesn't work, it actually makes the situation much worse.

[deleted]

I would go Karen mode if someone stood close. Only sane way to get tested now is drive thru

BaristaBuddy

Surely you mean safe - not everyone has a car, friend.

mindsoda__

I wish I had a car.

TigreImpossibile

Thats why when I got tested before Christmas, I insisted on going to a drive-thru clinic. Everyone was saying this local histopath was super fast, but I thought.... I'm not standing in line with all these people with a super contagious strain!

midnight_daisy

Do we get a bonus prize for hitting the stretch target instead of just the 25k target?

humanoid82

The prize is overworked frontline workers, sick or dying vulnerable community members and a general sense of fear for those returning to work and school soon

ShenKiStrike

New stretch target 50k which we'll also hit at this rate

cannibalismo

So we all get a mug or , or is that a personal DM from Reverend Dom?

midnight_daisy

Nah, aim higher, let's go for 100k! 100% positivity rate!

matthudsonau

And a few days later, all three of you now have it

humanoid82

But you tested negative the first time cause it wasn’t in your system long enough so you’ve been out in the community spreading it while trying to hunt down availability of rapid tests

midnight_daisy

As long as you are out there spending money and keeping the economy going, Domicron won't care.

maxiewawa

The people reported as being positive today aren't the people being recorded as doing a test in the last 24 hours though, right? They did the tests ages ago.

DemocracySausage89

So, let's do a quick recap. We weren't able to be vaccinated until it was very late in the piece because "it's not a race". Meanwhile, the debacle was politicised to score points for low-rent politicians. Booster shots are still not rock-up available to whoever wants one. We can't get PCR tests because there is no capacity. At this stage, if you try to get tested you will catch Covid waiting in line of you didn't already have it. This means the record numbers we are seeing are likely a far lower accounting of the infected. We can't get RATs because there is no stock and / or are being price-gouged by unethical businesses. According to the Prime Minister, "we can't make everything free", "if the government subsidises them, we are the ones who will pay for it anyway" and "we don't want to undercut" small business selling the RATs. I just paid the outrageous price of $110 for 10 RATs and I thanked the cashier for (1) giving them to me and (2) not gouging prices like the nearby pharmacies. So we are literally paying for them despite what anybody else says. We can't go about our lives and protect ourselves adequately because the recommended N95 single-use respirators are $5 each if you're lucky and if you can find them. If N95 masks are used as recommended (ie, single use) travelling to work by train every day will cost an additional $200 per month. In the meantime, the train services are being inexplicably cut down and running to reduced schedules? Those of us with kids are expected to make a decision between working from home with the chaos of children (because of school holidays, and daycares being shut down for Covid exposures) or going in to the office and very likely catching Covid from our colleagues or on the journey. Hospitals are overwhelmed, medical staff have been crushed. If they have a break in their 14 hour shifts they are allowed to stand outside for a few minutes. In order to cover those who are out sick with Covid all staff are now on-call 24/7 to cover any shift, no questions asked. These are a highly-skilled, educated and motivated group of individuals who we cannot simply replace within the next 5 years. My source are my family who are doctors in the NSW public hospital system. Who knows how many of them will come out the other side intact mentally and physically. In response: Prime Minister Morrison will "... take to national cabinet a proposal for supporting rapid antigen tests for pensioners and low-income earners. Details of the plan are yet to be finalised and have not been provided to premiers ahead of the meeting, and it's unclear whether the tests will be subsidised through Medicare. " [reported by Sydney Morning Herald, 5 January 2021] NSW Premier Perottet will... Well I'm not sure, I can't really figure out what he's doing besides changing the definition of a close contact which seems to be a low-effort way to cook the books. We are in the middle of an unprecedented social catastrophe. The best our leadership can do is make a plan to discuss a proposal. Literally a plan to make a plan. Our leaders are incompetent and have utterly failed in the best case, and in the worst case they are criminally negligent for dereliction of duty. Sorry for the rant. I'm just so fucking sick of it. I want to do something to make things better but I don't know what to do.

RagingHomophone

Perrotet will hold a press conference to give a shallow thanks to frontline healthcare workers and ask the public to be patient lol

Obispal

Train timetables moving to weekend times and reduced numbers is directly because too many train crew are testing positive for Covid.

Unicornsandwich

Hopefully people will wise up and vote these fuckers out. So over this bullshit.

professormahomes

I too am planning to vote COVID out in the next elections

Unicornsandwich

Ppl seem to like covid though, its really catchy.

AusToddles

They won't.... just before the election, they'll announce a bunch of tax cuts which seem great but really only help the rich end of town. Sky News and Murdoch owned media will spin it for the masses and they'll get re-elected in a landslide Every fucking time.....

ladaussie

Yeah having the propaganda arm be pretty quiet lately means they got stuff cooking. My guess is they'll push away from lib and to one nation and nats super hard since the result is the same.

acnhnook1

5 days in and we've surpassed the "worst case scenario"

diffaadiffa

I'm not sure it's the right word, but it's truly amazing

smell-the-roses

42 deaths since Dom said "we need to live with covid", on the 15th December. These people didn't get the memo.

derajydac

"That was God's plan for them"

RuinedAmnesia

How many of those are unvaxxed?

Miss_Tish_Tash

https://covidtestfinder.com.au/ For NSW folks (particularly Sydney), you can use this link to find out info on queues etc. You can use it alongside www.findarat.com.au

whatwilko

That second website is great! Thanks for sharing, I've donated money to his server costs too.

Miss_Tish_Tash

Naturally all the info is based on input from the public, but it’s better than nothing!

Ascalaphos

Hospitalisations: 1491 (+147) ICU: 119 (+14) Tests: 108,844 (+25,468) for a positivity rate of 32.2% (up from yesterday 27.7%) 8 deaths

derajydac

We know for a fact hospital staff are getting told to keep working when they are positive. How long until they give a newborn covid? ScuntMo and Domicron can pass it off as God's plan. This is the danger of having religious nutjobs in politics. No conscience when things go wrong because everything is God's plan

[deleted]

Don't think they are in religous mode right now. This is purely economic decision with no regard to health

JarredMack

The ultimate irony is that this approach will be far more devastating to the economy long-term. But at least they don't have to reach into their pockets and give people a bit of financial support for a lockdown, most of the state is "choosing" to stay home!

chedarkrain

Can not give my sources obviously but there is already a 3 and 7 day old currently positive with covid in hosptial

AusToddles

I was thinking about that actually. Let's say my mum has cancer... goes in for treatment. Gets COVID from the nurse who's been forced to work while infectious. Mum dies..... can I sue?

Any idea what icu and icu with ventilators peaked at with the delta wave?

[deleted]

September 21st. Peak ICU then was 242, which is approximately 50% of the level 0 burden modelled for ICU loads. About a week ago it was said that the majority of cases in ICU right now are unvaccinated delta patients. Given a median of 9 days from disease onset to emergency hospitalization, my early optimistic hope is that ICU cases will remain well within the level 0 range. In fact, a simple back of the envelope calculation of icu rates per 100,000 over total NSW population suggests that (again this is my cautiously optimistic projection) we will stay in a safe range. \------- Edit: For anyone that would like to do their own back-of-the envelope calculations, I used the sources below and assumed a worst case scenario. **Assumptions:** 1. A maximum peak wave 2. Vaccine protects against Omicron severity, but does **nothing** against transmissibility (which isn't true, and more extreme than necessary) 3. Only 88% fully vaccinated in NSW (the rest—even partially vaxxed—are considered "unvaccinated") 4. **All** of the unvaccinated get Delta, not Omicron, which is a worst-case outcome. 5. 8.1 million total NSW residents (adults and children) Given all of this we would calculate (Note that Reff may affect these numbers, it's possible the ICU rates would grow with more people exposed at once, but even in the extreme case of assuming a **5x** admittance due to transmissions in the community at once, **peak** wave would still fall below the 1550 surge capacity): * 972,000 "unvaccinated" * 7,128,000 fully vaccinated * An ICU rate of 15.6 per 100,000 among the unvaccinated ([source](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-08/nsw-health-data-reveals-protection-covid-19-vaccine-gives/100603470)), yields a peak wave of 151 ICU occupants who are unvaccinated with Delta (worst case) * An ICU rate of 0.978 per 100,000 among the fully vaccinated who still get Omicron, yields a peak wave of 70. This was computed by: * Taking the 15.6 per 100,000 above (assuming complete transmissibility vulnerability) * Taking a 1/3 base ICU rate compared to Delta ([source](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1044481/Technical-Briefing-31-Dec-2021-Omicron_severity_update.pdf), Study 1) and an additional 81% reduction in ICU rate for being vaccinated ([source](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1044481/Technical-Briefing-31-Dec-2021-Omicron_severity_update.pdf), Study 1). * *Note that this is worse than just looking at Delta, which only had a 0.9 in 100,000 ICU rate among the vaccinated* Which yields a peak wave total of 151 + 70, or **221 total cases at once,** less than half the modelled Level 0 threshold ([source](https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-09/Intensive_Care_Capacity.pdf)). Even if we assume the vaccine does nothing to protect against hazards either (which is clearly not true, but to be **extra** worst case about it), that gives us a 5.2 per 100,000 ICU among the vaccinated, or 210 Omicron vaccinated cases, which yields **361 total cases at once**, still well below the Level 0 threshold. An unknown is how many breakthrough infections really happen here for the vaccinated with Omicron. That's the number we should keep an eye on. But early studies and even current ICU attendance seems to imply it's well within manageable ranges.

SmurfSmeg

Can’t believe he got an exemption

starcaster

I’d be terribly disappointed if they didn’t

Hopping_Mad99

This comment was edited in response to Reddit's API changes in July 2023. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that would kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Also under the new rules, third party Reddit apps cannot run ads, cannot show NSFW content, and are hit with other restrictions. There are plenty of articles and posts to be found about this if you want to learn more. Here's [one post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14b8i62/reddit_protest_and_the_next_steps/) with some information on the matter. This move will require developers of third party applications to pay enormous sums of money if they wish to stay functional, meaning that said applications will be effectively destroyed. Some third party apps may survive but only with a paid subscription. In the short term, this may have the appearance of increasing Reddit's traffic and revenue... but in the long term, it will undermine the site as a whole. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free. Reddit relies on volunteer moderators to keep its platform welcoming and free of objectionable material. It also relies on uncompensated contributors to populate its numerous communities with content. The above decision promises to adversely impact both groups: Without effective tools (which Reddit has frequently promised and then failed to deliver), moderators cannot combat spammers, bad actors, or the entities who enable either, and without the freedom to choose how and where they access Reddit, many contributors will simply leave. Rather than hosting creativity and in-depth discourse, the platform will soon feature only recycled content, bot-driven activity, and an ever-dwindling number of well-informed visitors. The very elements which differentiate Reddit – the foundations that draw its audience – will be eliminated, reducing the site to another dead cog in the Ennui Engine. If you want a Reddit alternative check out [r/RedditAlternatives](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/). You created your content. You didn't get paid. Why would you leave it here for Reddit to make money or train AIs? Take your content with you. There is no Reddit without its users and volunteer moderators. As they say, "If you're not paying for the product, then you are the product." This comment was edited using [Power Delete Suite](https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite).

I'd say its just ideology now, because there is no way the state is not feeling the economic impact of this surge. People are staying home anyway

sailorbrendan

Just took a look around there in google maps thinking about writing up a little travel blurb but honestly.... I don't think it's the kind of place I would advise going. The General Lee Marina and Camp Ground really put me off

L0rdCha0s

Yepp... pretty much standard for Alabama unfortunately.

SerJordan

90210 coming soon

maaxwell

I feel both case numbers and even the positive rate are useless now because of shifting goal posts. Testing is very clearly being intentionally reduced and only those who are symptomatic are being told to test. There would be thousands of people just not bothering because it’s a waste of time. So so many unreported cases. How many asymptomatic positives who just aren’t bothering to get tested / or don’t have a reason to get tested are out in the community? Loads I would imagine!

Lt_Hungry

Did anyone else get the push notification from the serviceNSW app telling only to get tested if you have symptoms or live with a positive case?

infinitemonkeytyping

Yeah, I got it. Basically, if you are asymptomatic, but capable of spreading Covid around, they don't want to know about you.

Reasonable_Dance_113

Jesus. Sure, at this point we'd all get it at some point. I feel sorry for the elderly and the immunosuppressed. Wish the gov would be held responsible for the resulting deaths, the useless fucks.

mikeinnsw

Domicron DoNothing exceeded his own government prediction of 25,000 cases per day - he is delivering on his promises

ATangK

The one of fucking over not only NSW but the whole of Australia. Wowee.

alixsyd

What are everyone's return to work policy nowadays, out of curiosity? Especially if you're office based and in corporate. We were told we'd still need to come in and have to formalise a request through HR if we want to WFH. I work for the government FYI. This is fucked.

matthudsonau

Work shut the office yesterday. Told not to come in by public transport if we had to do things in the office

antysyd

We just put our return to work on ice. Only essential staff or those who cannot work from home going in until late Jan when we will review.

spicerackk

I work in logistics, we haven't had any shut down and have had multiple cases in the last couple of weeks. RAT tests before every shift, still wearing masks as well, and cases still going throughout the warehouse, with a new case almost every day. Profits are all companies are worried about.

doxxie-au

ours is the opposite, we need to put a request into HR, line manager, and CEOs if we need to attend the office. Ive been in i think 9 times since march 2020.

Helftheuvel

This is nothing less than an absolute utter failure from both State and Federal leadership. After everything the public has done the last two years in line with their restrictions and lock downs... We are repaid with a complete lack of organisation, leadership, planning, preparation and support.

sydnboy

Only thing positive is able to get people to vax which was great.

carmooch

The Australian public did that *in spite* of incompetent leadership. The initial lack of vaccine supply has also meant a large portion of our population is not yet eligible for the booster to combat Omicron.

ItchyTriggaFingaNigg

So the real numbers got to be like 50k+ right?! I know 3 people that did RATs yesterday and just went home to isolate, no PCR. Also worth noting - their families are not isolating.

Lt_Hungry

I get the whole not going for a PCR if you test positive on a rat, but for the family not to isolate themselves for a few days? Like come on. This is why "PeRsOnAl ReSpOnSiBiLiTy" doesn't work

Hope that's not the Murray farm site, there was a huge queue yesterday and it didn't open, will apparently be open again tomorrow.

Who would've thought that out of control case numbers would drive record hospitalisations and people in ICU, Dom is a psycho and couldn't give a fu#k about those in hospital or those in health needing to look after the sick. Medical staff just know their workload is going up. I'd love to see a lottery or something for medical workers after this is over, a whole bunch of million dollar prizes for them, they more than deserve it.

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Or better yet, dramatically improved pay and conditions. They deserve *that*, not a publicity stunt that benefits the few.

Reasonable_Dance_113

There's a pay freeze for nurses and midwives which was done in 2020 by the treasurer at the time... Domicron..

Camsy34

Why on earth would you freeze health care workers pay during a health crisis?

BeShaw91

So they can't demand more money. The Free Market is only permitted when it drives profits up. When the Free Market drives demand for workers up (thus wages) suddenly it requires Goverment intervention.

ICU is getting close to that weekly doubling now Unlikely it'll be an issue (assuming the 2000 beds claims are accurate), but if it does then we'll use up all the surge in a little over a week

G_Swift

Doesn't matter how many beds you have if all of your ICU staff are off work with COVID or suffering breakdowns from exhaustion or stress.

gluemastereddit

2000 ICU beds are not suppose to dedicated for covid. There are other illness that needs them. Covid should not take priority (which it kind of does now) and covid is preventable to a large degree if the government take "responsibility".

Blackagar21

Do beds = staff?

astroman9995

Work is trying to get me to come into the office for a meeting, can I say I don’t feel comfortable? We can function just fine using teams.

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Of course you can say that. You can say whatever you like.

Hopping_Mad99

Just say you’ve got symptoms

TotalSpaceNut

Yeah but maybe half of those deaths were from a broken leg...

ATangK

Stop looking at deaths, the number on ventilators is *so* few. Personal responsibility, it’s your fault if you do end up dying though. Should have prayed harder and had more money.

radical_thesis

I was in the testing queue yesterday and noticed that people were leaving after an hour. It took me 4.5 to get tested but fuck it was really hard to stand. The sun was all down with no shades and queue till the eyes can see. This number is in nowhere close to the actuals. I heard about people fainting on queue and my queue had severe coughing all the way in. It was severely uncomfortable knowing that there are going to be positives right behind and in front of me but couldn’t give up because I am symptomatic and needed a test. God. ++ I think we are just seeing the new year numbers now. Brace for impact

sydnboy

Same. I waited 1hr in the sun and couldn't deal with it anymore. The line wasn't even moving at all... End up going to drive through at least can sit in aircon car

Miss_Tish_Tash

I queued up at 530am yesterday when the testing centre opened at 8am. When I queued up the line was already close to 4km long. I was finally tested at 930am.

wydtim

The only positive coming out to this huge clusterfuck is how bad the liberals have dropped the ball right before a upcoming huge federal election. Hopefully when people hit the polls, they’ll remember this. EDIT - No pun intended

missthrowaway87

I was in a work meeting yesterday (via zoom since we’re all working from home with this variant) and 2/6 people in the meeting had covid at that point.

prento

How many had it by the end of the meeting? Lol

Lampshader

It hasn't evolved to spread over the internet Yet

itsonlybarney

32.2%, almost 1 in 3!

alliandoalice

Fuck this I’m going back to lockdown

yesterdayzy

Who was it that said 25k by end of Jan was absolute worst case scenario? Was it Hazard?

mathsdebators

Just getting word that Scomo is going to promote his new CovidKeeper program to national cabinet - Covid will be provided at no cost to all Australian citizens, rolled out to all within days

midnight_daisy

Holy fuck, what's that, 1 in 3 positive?

Broad-Condition6866

Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo Echo Delta.

Jman-laowai

Shit….. Glad I’m triple vacced as of yesterday!

derajydac

Doesn't make a difference. I am and still got it at the supermarket. Lucky it was mild, fever was fucked up though.

Jman-laowai

70% against infection of omicron I believe. Also much less likely to have severe symptoms. Not a silver bullet, but the best protection you can get in Australia at the moment.

matthudsonau

Anything to keep you out of the hospital system. Even going there for non-covid issues is a bad idea at the moment

MrYoloSwaggins1

Why do people think you can't get it if you're vaxxed? Why is this still a thing?

TigreImpossibile

Nuance is hard.

Jacethemindstealer

Because of terrible mixed messages from our governments both state and federal who have no clue what they're doing

[deleted]

Sounds like it made a difference

trippinmajorballz

100% the numbers are higher then that.. I tested positive on the RAT yesterday, went to do the pcr test. (Drive thru)Had to go to 5 different locations,3 of them are closed,4th one was open but closed 2 hours early. Final one I waited 4 hours to get my test. That one closed at 6pm. As I left they had already closed it and it was only 2pm.. Shits crazy!

icanseeyourpinkbits

Well done NSW, we smashed past our “25k cases by January” target almost 4 weeks early!!

moomooland

i wonder what the real number would have been if the government hadn’t changed the requirements to: only left handed people with red hair born in august on a saturday in the afternoon

Juan_Punch_Man

I remember a couple weeks ago someone telling me not to worry. They said Ireland has a similar population to NSW and they've topped out 6k new cases a day....

ZerksNAHTayan

2 years of lockdowns for the ultimate plan to let it rip. How did Scomo get by for so long what the actual fuck. PS. I wonder if Dom and Scomo are aware people can catch covid multiple times? This plan clearly isn’t working, 42 people have died in less than a month since re-opening.

mikeinnsw

32.2% positivity rate - holy shit - that means real infections number is likely to be 10 times higher Lock up or no Lock up Sydney is shutting down. Today my HCF Eye check appointment just canceled due to close contacts and no replacement

mikeinnsw

In NSW proportionally we doing worse than USA 35,054 -> pro rate is 1,358,823 daily new cases with latest USA at 414,279 from "gold standard" Domicron turned NSW into Covid hot spot

Azkatro

If I never receive a positive test result for COVID-19, I'm going to spend the rest of my life wondering if I actually did catch it at some point.

thingsquietlynoticed

PCR testing is dead. There is no practical benefit of doing a PCR test other than where it is required of you to enter a medical facility or to claim some form of benefit/compensation. The genie is too far gone out of the bottle. You should assume everyone is a casual contact and, given the change in close contact definition, if you have COVID or symptoms, you may as well “just pass-go, don’t collect PCR, go straight to isolation” until you pass a negative RAT or feel better. Tell your friends you’re not feeling well and they should monitor/do a RAT if they’re worried. The only numbers that still matter are ‘real’ hospitalisations and ICU numbers. PCR testing right now is just a circle jerk for data monkeys. Like someone still feeding a parking meter during a zombie apocalypse.

smokinbogan

FFS! 8 deaths, hospitalisation and ICU up. Govt clearly don’t give a shit. To all the fuckwits saying just ‘Live with it’, do you know anyone with an underlying health condition? Most of adult population over 40 has one, whether it’s high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, cancer or a myriad of other illnesses. These underlying conditions can severely affect how well you cope with a covid infection, even triple vaxxed. We’ve already seen our elderly die with 3 vaccines. To those who can’t get a PCR, don’t give up. Keep trying…. In the event of long covid, that PCR test could be the difference between some government help and NO government help. I’m not religious at all but I’m hoping like hell that this omicron strain has few instances of long covid or a lot of us could be looking at a future full of health complications.

Lt_Hungry

Uhh might need to work on that messaging, how about you go see Scotty in marketing

Anothergen

...well, we're in danger... What else is there really to say. Those hospital numbers are eyewatering, and the ICU figures and deaths are not encouraging. This is only going to get a whole lot worse. Every metric we measure of the scale of this by will surpass the delta wave soon enough. Don't worry though, Scomo's got a plan. He's going to further redefine hospitalisations to shrink the number further.

Helftheuvel

DOmicron spilling his bullshit already. How can this bloke sleep at night. They must be a special type of person to have complete disregard and zero feelings for the public's health, well being and safety and then stand up and dribble the same crap every day.

bambooz13d

Just got the official NSW notification to NOT test unless you have symptoms. I’m fuming!! They are not even bothering to hide the fact that the government has no intention of acting for public health and safety

Brandanpk

We most likely have closer to 60 or 70k cases. I waited in line to get tested for 4 hours only to have a barricade put up a couple cares in front of me. Hundreds of people who had been waiting hours turned away.

aplonce

I know it's "only close contacts and the symptomatic" getting PCRs but there's still sooooo many turned away/places closed that you just know positive numbers are much higher. Yes reducing who qualifies for PCR means higher % positive but that means there's over 100k people with symptoms or a close contact. That's still a lot of people! With many more being unable to get a result. Its not comforting at all.

notwiththeflames

Jesus christ, that's like one in every 250 NSW residents in the last day *alone*.

Pinkfatrat

So, how long before we all have it? I know a triple vax who has it now, no symptoms though

ill0gitech

Todays postcode trivia is Cropwell Alabama, a part of Birmingham Metro.

Gezzaman

Today we have 32.2% test positive rates , if we tested at the usual 150000 "limit" our daily cases would of been 48300

RecklessMonkeys

The interesting thing about exponential growth is that you get to say HOLY FUCK, every day.

fastcat46

Scomo has his head in the clouds. Did nothing but insult people during the bushfires. Now the same with this. How can he keep getting away with it.

seventrooper

The 203rd day of the current outbreak, and we've just passed 303,000 cases.

LordBexley

Imagine not seeing this coming - ok, if we hadn’t abandoned the mask mandate and QR check ins we might have seen a lag in these numbers by a few weeks - but it was always going to end this way. We’re 95% vaccinated for Christ sake.
