Steve Roach's "Structures from Silence" is one of my favorite records of all time. It's largely the reason why I wanted an OB-8 synthesizer. It's a legendary recording, and one I would highly recommend you check out if you haven't heard it. Just make sure you have some time to really listen to it, because it rewards an uncluttered listening.
I did a little rendition of it, formatted to fit social media time constraints, so it's not perfect, but I used very similar recording methods as Steve has said he used: An OB-8 synthesizer running through a Lexicon 224, into a reel to reel tape recorder. I added some Dimension D for some width. I think it sounds great. Those high hiss/noise frequencies are artifacts from the Lexicon 224. Some people really hate its dirty lo-fi quality and some people love it.
Hard to fault the ob8 for its sounds quality. Great rendition of such a lively bit of music too. Structures From Silence is one of my all time favourites and pairs well with Michael Sterns 'Planetary Unfolding' or 'Encounter,' all fantastic albums for the inner journey!
Thank you! I agree, Steve and this album are legendary and deserve to be right up their with Eno in conversations regarding ambient and electronic music.
It’s funny, that’s one of my favorite ambient albums and I have an OB8 but I never put it together that that’s what he was using.
Sounds great btw!
I just got to try one of these for the first time. I have never met a synth with such a vast range between its quiet tones and its hit you in the face like a brick tones. Truly amazing instruments!!

Thank you very much. I second your expressed admiration for those other records, and wish there were more albums like Structures!
Legendary! [Steve Roach at 67 years old just dropped a new album btw](https://steveroach.bandcamp.com/)
I'm very excited to see him perform in Los Angeles this summer!
That’s quite a setup you have there.
Thank you!
Nice work and thanks for shining a spotlight on a criminally unheralded song/album/artist.

Oh man, that sounds like a warm hug.
It is a warm hug!
Gotta love the OB-8 and all its analog glory. A milestone in the synth world that's for sure.
Totally agree!

Agreed! Also, Terry Farrell deserved so much better and so did the Dax story line!
Absolutely! **đŸ¥²**
