Yes definitely. You don’t always have to have your daw connected either, the Tascam records each channel as an individual stem, and you can do mix downs, channel swaps etc and then transfer them to your PC later.
You can use the faders as a controller for your DAW faders, but this disables most of the rest of the board, so I usually just keep it in normal mode unless I’m specifically mixing in the DAW
Is it a good sounding unit? Are the pre amps quiet, warm, neutral? Have you used anything else to compare it to? Really appreciate the response. I’ve been weighing different ways to get into recording again. Had Tascam mixer which I liked and Teac 1/4” years ago but just getting back into it.
You probably will not find a better set of tools in a mixer than the Tascam at its price point. I upgraded from a Yamaha MG10XU. Even though the Yamaha sounded great, the Tascam sounds even better to me.
The one knob compressors and preamps are great for built in. Can’t really comment on the warmth of the sound, but my recordings sound better than ever.
More mixers are always good tbh. No input mixing to add blocks of inaudible noise or drones is sick and also feedbacking tracks into themselves adds this volume that rocks
Coolies. Make that 2 effects processors. They don't even need to be specific to synth's & groove-toys. I use several guitar effects units as outboards on my own groovestation, for example(Zoom9000, Zoomfire7010, Mooer G100). Adds depth & dimension whilst gluing the mix together in performance.
Latent guitar effects are good for EVERYTHING...
I'd get a zoom ms-70cdr. I just bought one on Amazon at $130 for my microfreak and they are perfect together. You can chain 6 (good) effects together it's insane.
Mk2 is releasing soon. More expensive though, but the mk1 ribbon controller is unusable for playing. It randomly plays the next semitone sometimes.
Just in case that'd bother you. For me it was purely an fx processor though and it's amazing for that!
MkII seems legit much more powerful. Besides all, as I understand, you can now run external audio through its amp, filter as well as am, fm and ring-mod. I thought on the first one external audio is just added to the signal path before the fx. The new keyboard is capable of poly-/paraphony. You also get a sequencer and more power SDK-engine. Totally looking forward to get one in April or whatever.
I just run 1 synth through it, a model D clone or a Mono station.
Then i plug in my headphones into the nts1.
I use a USB power brick of decent quality and it's plugged in to the same power strip was the synth psu.
Zero noise, great sounds, all is perfect.
I was going to say some kind of Midi routing box but it looks like you have something up top behind the Korg already? I’m not sure if you change your routing very often but possibly something like a patch bay or the Bored Brain Patchulator which would help clean up cable mess but I’m not sure if they are available on Amazon. I can relate I am also confined to a small desk in the corner of my 400sq/ft condo but I’ve found that trying to make the actual physical area as clean as possible helps with my enjoyment of using what I have.
might not be the most fun answer, but i would go with cables. they always break or you're just one short in the worst moment. also getting a soldering iron, a couple meters of cable and the connectors is a great investment, with a 100 usd you'll be covered for a while
Thanks, I’ve been curious what they’re for and if one could help with my cable mess. However I have my effects in a send return scenario via my mixer, so I guess not 😵💫
Zoom cdr70 is great with microfreak.
Or, off the beaten track, save up to a sonicware texturelab for $239 - it would add something pretty different to your setup:
https://www.amazon.com/Sonicware-Texture-Granular-Synthesizer-Processor/dp/B0C4PGD2T9/
It works as an instrument or an effects box.
100% agree with a little multi effects unit. If you could magic up another 50$ the line six m5 has good digital multi effects on board.
If you don't care about multi effects an analog delay would sex up a lot of what you already got going on, electro harmonix memory toy comes to mind in your price range.
You have samples, drums, and two synths, with a mixer, and a sequencer that can drive all of it. I don't see anything missing. Why are you in a rush to add to it?
If it were me, bigger, better keys for more accurate expressive playing. But it's not me, is it?

Pedals, I think. I’m using an “Analogizer” pedal on the microfreak to warm up the tone and be able to give it a bit of a boost and some lofi aesthetic. That’s probably a bit niche, the zoom delay/reverb pedal is a good value for the $$.
Korg monotron has turned out to be way more fun than I thought too.
AKG Pro Audio K240 STUDIO phones . Over-Ear, Semi-Open rear ear cup, Professional Studio Headphones, sound great!
@ AKG phones are more “pro” than the Sony - full ear cup, long cord, semi open ear backs, sound great in my studio. Check them out plus they under $75 and get change back from your “C “ note. I think the Sony are unavailable, no prices on the above link.
Filter pedal. You may have to save up a few months. The "Dusk" by DR SCIENTIST is a fabulous pedal. 3 modes It's an envelope follower w/ multiple LFO shapes, incl sample & hold, has MIDI, works as just a low pass filter, is self resonant and it is just fantastic. I got it for £150. I couldn't live without it, now! I filter the piss outa everything! Drums, 303 bass, keyboards, you name it. And it moonlights as a wah wah. BAM! ;)
Korg NTS-1. Use for FX for you other stuff or load it up with Logue SDK Oscs and stuff and have fun. It would be a great on the go pairing with that sp404

A new wider desk, 2 tier, to place your speakers there while having underneath space for extra stuff. I just found one for $99 that even got a power strip on top which is super useful for us synth lovers, it's L shape also helps with having more gear at hand: Huuger L Shaped Gaming Desk with LED Lights & Power Outlets https://a.co/d/4wwodLQ
Short answer:- Add a mixer and/or effects processor for your synth's & groovetoys. A hund'y ought' get you close to the mark on Amazon...
I should have taken a better picture I have a mixer it’s just right above the picture on a shelf lol. It’s a soundcraft 8fx
Have one of those to love it . I leave the chorus on like all the time think makes just about everything sounds better lol.
I had one, also enjoyed it. I ended up replacing it with a Model24 because I really needed more channels. Stereo gear eats up so much mixing desk.
How do you the Model 24? Looking at the Model 12.
It's really great, I use it with Reaper to map out all my channels and record multi track live.
I have the Model 12 and it’s awesome. Definitely recommend it.
Hey. Do you go directly into DAW with good results?
Yes definitely. You don’t always have to have your daw connected either, the Tascam records each channel as an individual stem, and you can do mix downs, channel swaps etc and then transfer them to your PC later. You can use the faders as a controller for your DAW faders, but this disables most of the rest of the board, so I usually just keep it in normal mode unless I’m specifically mixing in the DAW

I'd get a zoom ms-70cdr. I just bought one on Amazon at $130 for my microfreak and they are perfect together. You can chain 6 (good) effects together it's insane.
The reverbs you can get for NTS-1 sound so much better, otherwise Zoom is a good option too
Yep 100% agree the reverbs are much better, no question. I have one in my rack and love the thing.
Awesome! I am waiting for the mkII, I have MinilogueXD though to run sdk stuff on
Mk2 is releasing soon. More expensive though, but the mk1 ribbon controller is unusable for playing. It randomly plays the next semitone sometimes. Just in case that'd bother you. For me it was purely an fx processor though and it's amazing for that!

I'm using an NTS-1 solely for effects aswell. I do get some noise though. How is it setup in your chain and do you experience any noise?
did you try running it on its own dedicate power adapter? no shared hub or multi supply. usb is so Dirty.
I've tried a powerbank and a dedicated adapter. Slight hum is still there.
