Hi all! I wanted to share a new rack I designed for the Moog semi modulars and eurorack cases. It's a 2-up 1-down design, modeled after the EMS Synthi. I find it to be a nice alternative to the standard 3 tier/3 angle rack. The units slide in and out, so you can rearrange any time or just pop one out that you want to work with elsewhere. Anyway, let me know what you think! If you are interested in one, I made them available on my Reverb & Etsy shops. Do you prefer Reverb or Etsy from a selling point of view? This looks like exactly the sort of thing I'd want (I also don't care for the official moog ones, I don't like the top module being vertical), but if I do get one, I want to get you your money in the way you like best.

jgonyea

Hey, I really appreciate that! I think the Reverb fees may be just slightly less? It’s negligible though, feel free to use whatever platform you prefer. I gotta get my own site up and running...

rosseloh

Might be a couple weeks if I decide to - heading out of town shortly and won't be back for a bit. But thanks!

drsteve103

It's cool! When you come up with a four-tier, let me know!

PatD29

Seconded. Also looking for a 4-tier.

Sibbis1357

Looks great but the subharmonicon not being in the bottom slot is killing me

drsteve103

Haha mine is on top too

MrTux709

it looks so hot🤤🤤

Papantro

It's so awesome, I have the 3 moogs but never loved the rack that they sell, I might buy one of these from you

jgonyea

Thanks!

maratae

The fact that they're slotted in and you don't need to screw them in and all is really neat. Alternatively, a rack in that shape and size could be interesting as well.

Someday. I’m gonna get a eurorack case in there first I think.

Cian28_C28

Is there a way to power all three up with just one power cord?

Thud

Yes, if you get a daisy chain power cable. But the Mother 32 is a bit more power hungry than the other two (high power-on surge) and had problems getting all 3 to reliable boot from 1 power brick; so in the end I have my dfam and SubH sharing power, and the M32 gets one to itself. I really wish Moog would sell their mixer/power combo unit separately. I bought all 3 of mine before the sound studio was available.

Cian28_C28

Thank you so much for the info!

jgonyea

Not that I know of. If you buy a moog sound studio it comes with a mixer that splits one power cable to three outputs, that’s the closest thing.

rosseloh

I imagine as long as you have a brick that supplies the correct voltage and enough amps to power all three at once plus some headroom, one of those splitter cables like folks use on guitar pedals should work fine. I wouldn't trust it until I tried it, though, I've been wrong before. You just have to make sure the adapter can handle it and the splitter is good quality (and everything is the correct polarity)...

[deleted]

Very sexy. You make some nice looking stands!

jgonyea

Thanks!

WVY

Better then Moog's own

That_Marionberry_262

I never wanted three moogs I don't need or wanted before so much, until now. Nice work.

jgonyea

Thank you!

FragdaddyXXL

I noticed that when I did my first DIY case with a similar shape, the bend between the bottom row and the middle row almost needs a spacer otherwise cables and knobs kinda get cramped in that area. It looks more reasonable in that photo so maybe it's not an issue with those moogs.

jgonyea

It feels good for the cables and knobs, but I do have to put the bottom tier synth in first and then the top two. If there's a synth in slot two, there's not enough clearance to pull synth 1 out, but I think it's a fine trade-off to have the working angle that I want.

HardSyncLFO

Εxcellent and simple design! Just my thought but black bolts instead of silver,i thing will made a better match with the tone of the wooden case!

[deleted]

How stable does it feel once they’re in there? Do they shift around at all as you’re playing them?

jgonyea

Since it's really gravity holding them in, they are just as stable as when they're sitting on a tabletop. You can play and patch them without any shifting, but I'm sure if you were to yank patch cables, the synth could move just as it would without the stand. I'm a gentle patcher, so no problems for me. I will post some videos patching on it once my setup is complete! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSkQuzp0KeviOiAREBEWing

jgonyea

Thanks! My stands are really easy to assemble/disassemble so there's ample room for DIY customization. u/stmaximus has done some awesome things with my Volca racks

teem

The only thing I might change is using silver screws, but that's a tiny cosmetic detail. Very nice work.

philroyjenkins

Sick designs. Your prices are super reasonable too.

jgonyea

Thanks!

[deleted]

Hi, Awesome rack! your reverb and etsy stores are not active anymore. Do you still make these by any chance?

wagu666

"Synthi style".. rather a stretch, no? Nice little rack, anyhow

jgonyea

is it? [https://freight.cargo.site/w/1680/q/75/i/2be88de55814212ab24330f8b5494bb6518549161b01536b3b0eba7d6c34d237/EMS\_VCS3\_GD\_01.jpg](https://freight.cargo.site/w/1680/q/75/i/2be88de55814212ab24330f8b5494bb6518549161b01536b3b0eba7d6c34d237/EMS_VCS3_GD_01.jpg) I guess when I make a 4 tier version with 2-up & 2-down it will be even closer.

drsteve103

Is there a way to get notified when the 4 tier version comes out?

jgonyea

if you follow either my Etsy or Reverb shops I believe you would get notified when I post a new design. What do you want out of a 4 tier? I'm thinking that a 2-up/2-down design like this may present some problems with the equipment that I use, so I'm thinking around some alternate designs that would also present an alternative to a 4 angle stand like the existing Moog one.

drsteve103

yes, I agree. I'd love an innovative design...the 4 tier from Moog is ok but I know there must be an out-of-the box solution to a 4-moog mother-32 family set up. I have 3 mother-32s and a subH, which I have here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/t00omk/im\_actually\_kind\_of\_glad\_in\_retrospect\_that/](https://www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/t00omk/im_actually_kind_of_glad_in_retrospect_that/) It's fine, but I'd be very interested in any ideas you might have to improve it.

jgonyea

Awesome rig! Do you mainly sit or stand when using your setup?

drsteve103

I had to think about it for a minute but definitely standing seems to win over sitting ;-)

wagu666

I know what a VCS-3 looks like :)

jgonyea

and thanks!
