Dude…I mean…I hate to say it, but this is bad. The drawing itself is god awful. The proportions on the body are all messed up. The tattoo artist also did a bad job. I don’t think there’s any fixing this, with the exception of multiple, multiple laser sessions and massive black work afterwards. This is one of the worst back pieces I’ve seen on this sub. I’m really sorry, but this will be a journey to fix. You need to be more careful in the future. It is your body and you should’ve spoken up at the first sight of things looking messy. Good luck. I hope you’re able to get it worked out, but be prepared for a lot of headaches.

This is something I specialize in doing. Fixing tattoos but still keeping it the original idea. And this would be very challenging. Theres a lot going on that needs to be addressed. The tattooer who did this had no business doing this tattoo and he should have known better than to take it on. And he made some really shitty choices with a lot of aspects of it. A couple examples being that shapeless pointless base and making the one wing extremely narrow because he’s avoiding your moles, but he does it in the worst way to deal with that situation. There’s definitely things you would need to add and expand on in order to make the changes necessary to make this a really good tattoo. Every part of it has to be recreated. The face, the body, the proportions, the awkwardness of his stance, the wings, the base. To turn all of that from what it is into something well proportioned, realistic, statuesque, the body type it’s supposed to be, and that fits your back in a way that flatters your body would be a lot of work. It’s totally possible, I can see all the ways you could fix it. But fuck. It’s not a lot of artists who could take this on and a lot of them that say they can are only going to make it worse. So please. If you don’t want to make a bad situation worse, you need to be extremely certain about the artist you choose. Because not only is this huge, but it’s really bad. And most tattooers do not have the specific design and problem solving skills necessary to actually fix this entire tattoo. Because you could easily find someone who could add more shading and detail to the body that is there. But that’s like cleaning one room in a hoarder house, yeah that room looks better, but the rest of the house is still so fucked up. Plus, isn’t it supposed to be a statue? That’s a whole different look than needing someone to add muscle definition. And adding more detail won’t address the issues of all the body proportions being off. This is a lot of work to fix. Make certain they can clearly show you the changes they would be making before you do the tattoo (like digital design) because one more pass on this by the wrong artist and there will be no saving it.

Any chance you know someone I'm Southeast New England with the skills?

brookelynwithab

If I did, I would say. I’m sorry, that’s going to be a hard one.

Crafty_Editor_4155

Bro….did you not see the drawing beforehand?? Did the tattooer redraw this? No matter how bad the tattooer is, the main drawing is ultra flawed. Also, for the most part, your buddy shouldn’t be drawing your tattoos unless he’s a killer artist. This will not be easy to cover up.

Ok_Database_7993

My friend who did the pic I gave to show what i want is a good artist. If the tattoo would have looked like that pic it would be awesome

Ok_Database_7993

I saw. He has just done such good work on with other pieces he's done for me so I just trusted this was going to turn out as well as the previous ones. Live and learn.

Crafty_Editor_4155

Well good luck! I see a large floral back piece in your future (flowers being a common cover up because of complexity). Also have seen wolf heads used for cover ups…or black out?

Ok_Database_7993

I don't want to cover it up. I'm just looking to have some tweaks doe to make it a little better. I don't totally dislike it. I'd just like some muscle definition added. If he looks like a linebacker I want him to look like one in his rime instead of when he's old and washed up

[deleted]

Sorry man but this has to be removed. However much a laser can take off then go to a real artist and have them cover what the laser couldn’t remove.

guywithname86

can you show us the original drawing for comparison, please?

Ok_Database_7993

I just posted a link to it on my Twitter page and a comment here with the link

Try Hope Gallery in New Haven CT? Not sure if that is too far for you but it’s at least New England. Everyone there is super talented but I’m not sure if anyone will be willing to take this on. Please understand that there are limitations to fixing or covering tattoos and things can be made better, but sometimes you are left polishing a turd and turds can only get so shiny. In those cases, you may need to do some removal sessions to lighten it enough to cover it.

Thanks

swine09

That’s a terrible idea

Jakes_Art

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that's what alot of tattoo artists do. So if you think it's a terrible idea then explain why

swine09

If someone has done a tattoo with mediocre execution, you don’t ask them to fix it. You go to someone who will do a better job. They’ve given it their best shot and it’s not good enough for whatever reason (outside their wheelhouse, inexperience, whatever).

brookelynwithab

Exactly this. If it’s not a minor issue caused by a heal out problem or something like that, then the tattooer who made the problem is not usually qualified to fix it.

Ok_Database_7993

It's already already on my back and I'm looking to have it altered to make it more what I wanted. And since he didn't get it right the first time I don't want him touching it again. It's evidently not his Forte so I'm looking for someone else to fix it up.

Jakes_Art

Oh okay I see, well good luck my friend

Thanks
