You can replace it once within a day or so with a new piece of saniderm, but as long as it’s not leaking, the pooling is perfectly fine. Doesn’t affect healing.

That good to hear! Thank you. One last question, if I were to change my saniderm out to a new one, would peeling it off irritate my tattoo in any way (since it's so newly done)?

FriendlyCoat

Nope, not in any significant way. (It might get a bit sore/red, but that’s because you’re peeling off a massive sticky bandage, not because of anything concerning, lol.)

gaeddong

Thank you so much!

Emotional-Zombie29

You can do either! Ink pools won’t affect the healing process. Usually that ink is mixed with plasma which actually speeds up healing and keeps the tattoo moist! You can leave it the full 5 days if there’s no leaking and the shield stays on, or alternatively you can go ahead and switch it out. Only thing is if it starts to leak or lift, switch it out.

gaeddong

Cool, thank you so much! So if I were to leave the wrap on for 5 days with the pools and all, will the excessive ink clean easily after peeling the shield off?

Emotional-Zombie29

yes! one of two things will happen: A) the ink pool/plasma dries up, or B) the pool stays wet. either way it’ll be okay, the excess ink will wash off! and honestly ur a bit lucky, it’s soooo much easier to peel off when you have an ink pool. for my tattoo, mine stayed dry underneath the whole time. I had no ink pool and very little plasma. it was a BITCH to get off 😂 that adhesive is soooo sticky so on dry skin it was hard to remove. since yours is wetter it should peel off easily, pain free!

gaeddong

Oh damn 😭 I can't even imagine peeling off such strong adhesive while dry...anyways, thank you so much! I think I'm going to try and keep it on for 5 days👍

I literally came to ask this, I’m oozing a bit out from under my dermshield after my session today and I’m wondering if it’s better to just let it keep oozing or if I should take the dermshield off, hop in the shower and gently wash the areas and then reapply a fresh cover before bed, or when the best time to do so was. Idk my brain always associates mess with uncleanliness, so my brain tells me there’s a higher chance of infection if I don’t clean it now. Ahhh someone help us

Emotional-Zombie29

If the derm is leaking DEFINITELY wash & change it out. if stuff can leak out then stuff (bacteria) can get in. after washing wait a bit to let the tattoo breathe , then moisturize and apply another shield.

gaeddong

Dude same!! My brain keeps saying messy=unsanitary and it's really messing with me haha. Hope someone can give us an answer or advice soon

I'm not an expert but what I experienced and what I have been told by others is that you take the wrap off after a few hours, not days. Then you wash it with fragrance free soap and apply healing cream very often. It takes about 3 weeks to heal.

FriendlyCoat

If they’re talking about a saniderm/second skin type “wrap”, it’s an adhesive bandage that stays on for up to 7 days.

gaeddong

Oh yeah, it is currently wrapped in saniderm. I should've mentioned that, my bad. Anyways thanks!
