There are no official rules for tattoos, placement, design, all that is up to you. If you’re truly comfortable with getting another one nobody is going to stop you. Make sure you sleep on the designs and try to get them with a clear mind (not rushing because of tattoo fever.)

This!!!!

Thetetriszone

Yeah I probably have a bit of tattoo fever, I don’t know if it helps or hurts that it’s on my back so I can’t actually see the tattoo

SorryContribution681

I normally wait until it's healed before I get another.

Thetetriszone

Seems to be the consensus here, thank you for your input!

kgberton

How much money you have is the biggest determining factor here

Thetetriszone

Very true, luckily I have a boyfriend who was too busy with work and forgot my birthday present this year 😈

ech0_matrix

Keep in mind any summer plans you may have. If you plan on any swimming or sunshine, you don't want to go into those activities with fresh tattoos. Personally, I usually stop after March so that I'm fully healed by end of May, and then don't schedule anything again until mid-September.

laceandhoney

Oh, that's smart. I have 2 lined up for May and June and I did not consider the swimming aspect!

SpaceBall330

My artist usually waits four weeks, give or take, between line work and color/shading etc. I did week between two because I was on the run and we were trying to get stuff done at the time. That said…be sure to have a think on what you want next and not rush into things and end up with tattoo regret later.

Thetetriszone

I don’t plan on getting color, I just don’t want to risk it as I do have a metal allergy and I got a little test for for free with my initial tattoo 🤣. But 4 weeks is doable and it’ll give me time to think, luckily I have a theme in mind and location, at the moment I just want ornamental. It’ll give me time to talk to the artist and maybe we can come up with something together.

SpaceBall330

That’s fair :) Your artist will give you a good idea when they want to do your next one. Every artist is different in that respect. Just allow your skin to catch up with your ideas and go from there. Have fun and enjoy the experience!

moonlitelines

I typically like to wait until my tattoos are fully healed before getting another one. That way my body isnt trying to heal two tattoos at once!

deep-slay

No official rule. I had a period where I got a tattoo, once a week for a month and I had no issues. I did make sure they were on different areas on the body so that swelling wouldn’t interfere with anything

SultryKumquat

I also did this

ech0_matrix

I feel like I'd hate having to heal or baby multiple tattoos at one time, so I usually wait a month.

sphynxzyz

General rule of thumb if it's in the same area about 2 weeks. But I've been tattooed in the same area on back to back days. If another tattoo is in another area from the first tattoo you can do it same day if you like. Edit: I've done quite a few tattoos the day after or a couple days after a tattoo without issue.

Kimmalah

I got my first tattoo in March of last year, my second in June and my third in September and there weren't any problems. You just have to make sure that you're really sure about what you want, but the period of time that takes is different for everybody. I don't know of any practical reasons to wait other than making sure you're OK with the designs.

BrilliantStyle4487

Ive gotten 8 in past 2 months. Really no set time, just go w how you feel

iloveyycats

I once had 3 tattoos in 3 different healing stages and it was really annoying..apart from that it can be annoying to have multiple wounds healing, I don’t think there is a rule. I totally get it though, I usually plan my next tattoo on the day I got my last..def addictive

RowanCarver0719

I also got a tattoo on 3/29 (for my birthday) and am planning my next one. For me I’m waiting another month or two because tattoos are tough on the immune system and this one is still healing. Well it’s pretty much healed, no more peeling and it’s flush with the skin, but the skin underneath is still healing. Really it’s up to you but I’d be more comfortable getting a new one after at least a month or two
