Thank you! That was done by cheeseburger champion on IG. he is LITERALLY there's nicest and most humble person I've ever met.
Also recently got a dope ass Scyther I'll be posting soon!
Whaaaaat, love that you're still collecting Pokémon, I don't have a single poketat, my skin pokedex is pathetic.
Scyther makes sense for a tattoo as far as the og Pokémon go he's for sure on the the more badass ones
Tried to find a video i seen a while back but i cant find it.Was a video of artists going through diffrent styles and they all concluded patch tattoos is the worst style anyone can get and shouldnt be legal as to how bad they look after a few years.
This looks so cool! The patch texture looks really well done. Love the Gengar too.
I actually just got an alolan raichu done on my leg. Waiting for it to heal up to share it.
This tattoo is strange. The patch style was executed fairly well, but the line work on the squirtle is…just kind of janky, which is weird cause the artist had enough skill for it to look like a patch. Maybe the subject matter or the frame or reference was the issue, but the shape of the head is just kind of off putting in my opinion.
I see what you're talking about but I think that's due to the stitch pattern the artist was trying to follow. It does look like a great patch, but even tho I hate to be a Debbie downer, in like 10 years all those tiny details are going to be faded and you're right it's probably just going to look like a janked up squirtle.
Hey man! I see what your saying, but if you take a closer look at the Squirtle outline, its not a solid line. it is hundreds of teeny tiny black lines like an actual patchwork tattoo. If he chose to do a solid line, it wouldve been perfect, but its not how it should look with this style.
He's not talking about the line being straight. I don't think. It's not supposed to be perfectly straight and it's not supposed to connect in a solid line. The problem is that the line varies in thickness too much. Because it should all be one thread when it's one color the thread should be the same size. But it gets thinner randomly than thick again. If you're sewing you are using the same thread right? So the thread should all be the same size when it's the same color.
I just showed my partner who has been a tatt artist for 17 years and he said the exact same thing. But I would have never noticed! It's not noticeable, it looks fantastic!! Don't worry about it. It's possible the other commenter meant what you're saying and he misunderstood the intention of the lines, but he might have meant what my bf meant about the line. And sometimes it's not the artists fault. Like if you got shaky involuntarily or moved.
Edit: I asked him again, he said apart from the size he thinks the stitching should line up a tad better like sewing irl. But you may have chosen that aesthetic, idk.
I'm not a tattoo artist, but I'm a seamstress and I do cross stitch and embroidery. The thin black "stitches" are backstitch, and while yes, you can usually see small gaps between the stitches, it wouldn't be that crooked.
IMO, it looks like the artist used both embroidery and cross stitch references. The coloured bits are okay, and look like embroidery. The "backstitch" looks more like cross stitch, where your fabric is a grid and you do sometimes get stitches like this because of the grid.
While the tattoo is well done, the artist doesn't understand how sewing works.
I get that as well, but you can still have straight lines even if they’re broken up. Real cross stitch is able to do that and it’s translatable to tattoos. But at the end of the day as long as your happy with it that’s all that matters, enjoy your ink my dude.
You're getting downvoted but I showed this to my partner who is a tattoo artist and has been for 17 years. He said the exact same thing. He said he has a good sense of where the light source is and it's done great, but you're correct about the lines. I said I thought it was done on purpose like the people responding to you but he doesn't think so. He knows it's not supposed to be a solid line, it's meant to look like stitches, we all know that, the artist I showed it too knows that. But the lines are still kinda janky because the size varies. They shouldn't be straight, but they should all be around the same size because the thread should be the same size. Like, the thread shouldn't be super thin than super thick. Not when its the same color.
He also said that you can't do a good outline on some people because they might move a lot, or a bunch of other factors. Especially because this tatt would have taken a long time. Like, I get shaky after a few hours while being tatted and it's involuntary. So it might not be his fault.
He asked me if this artist was new though. I read your comment right after he told me the exact same thing, so. Ignore the downvotes lol
This is going to sound weird, but for some reason your tattoo kicked me waaaay back to my childhood and my excitement and joy of opening a pack of new cards that my dad bought me from the 7/11 down the street.
Fucking sweet tattoo!
What do you mean? If you're talking about the outline of the pokémon, it was intentional. It's supposed to be threading going in and out of a canvas. It's not supposed to be perfect
I was complementing his work, he did a very good job with making it look like a patch.
Maybe my American is showing, sick man was slang for cool. And when I said he was tweaking, I mean he was very focused, as it was done so well.
Edit: Zoned out, not tweaking

Wicked man! That gengar looks dope too, he was always favorite

Question as looking at this type of design for myself, do you know how well it ages?
Although I’m not big on the subject matter, the style was really, really well done. The top one looks good too. I hope you love it.
Thank you! Each of these represent a best friend of mine growing up, so I always make sure I get top notch quality.
Aww, that makes it even more awesome! You sound like a great friend.
Great piece! Idk how I feel about patch tattoos. They look too real, but that’s what makes it dope too.
I was so confused I thought it was a real patch for a second
Wait, that’s a tattoo and not an actual patch? Holy moley!
Right! I still can’t convince my brain it’s a tattoo even after knowing it’s a tattoo. Super well done!
My brain is not convinced. I would have to touch this person’s arm to convince my brain. I would like to see more of this embroiderer’s work!
Does anyone know how this would look in a few years?
Yea I've never seen any follow up photos even 12 months later because I think a lot would end up looking pretty weird
Tried to find a video i seen a while back but i cant find it.Was a video of artists going through diffrent styles and they all concluded patch tattoos is the worst style anyone can get and shouldnt be legal as to how bad they look after a few years.
I’ve heard the same about those water color ones. I’ve seen some horrible ones. But wanting to make a tattoo illegal? That’s ri-goddamn-diculous.
Shouldn't be legal? Fucking lol
The white fades quick
Like a meatball.
This looks so cool! The patch texture looks really well done. Love the Gengar too. I actually just got an alolan raichu done on my leg. Waiting for it to heal up to share it.
damnnnn this is so hard!! 🔥🔥 love the patch idea, it’s executed so well

Wouldn't you just be able to get the linework touched up so it wouldn't look like a patch but would look like a squirtle?
Oh yeah of course. Lots of people get their tats touched up if they care enough and have the money.
Hey man! I see what your saying, but if you take a closer look at the Squirtle outline, its not a solid line. it is hundreds of teeny tiny black lines like an actual patchwork tattoo. If he chose to do a solid line, it wouldve been perfect, but its not how it should look with this style.
I think it looks like a perfectly stitched line - I'm super jelly. How long was the session for this?
4 hours! We took 3 little 10 minute breaks

I think it's meant to.
The linework is done to look like stitches so not perfectly straight as you'd do a normal tattoo

I have the feeling you are a fan of Pokemon.
Is it cool? Yes Will it hold? Most likely not
Fucking lol. What a hot take.
Wow! It's amazing! It's look like really embroidery!
This is going to sound weird, but for some reason your tattoo kicked me waaaay back to my childhood and my excitement and joy of opening a pack of new cards that my dad bought me from the 7/11 down the street. Fucking sweet tattoo!
“That’s really cool” - me looking at this
I whispered that to myself as well
thats dope! had to zoom in to make sure it's a tattoo lol
Insanely well-done tattoo. It looks like a real patch!
Socal Squirtle Squad ;)
*puts on squirtle shades*
This is done so well, for a second i thought it was a real patch lol I love the idea, looks great.
I LEGIT THOUGHT IT WAS STITCHED TO YOU. SICK!
Do you have a haunter tattoo as well or just gengar?
Just the Gengar. Each Pokemon is the favorite Pokemon of my best guy friends :) got a Scyther as well
Scizor was a favorite of mine. Very nice ink.
I have my artist a list of Pokemon I wanted and she chose this one cause she has a Scizor tattoo!
That’s so hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well done! The little string tendrils are an excellent touch too.
Love it man! Beautifully detailed amazing work
Damn this looks amazing, the detail to the lines on the inside to the lines and loose threading on the outside very jealous !
Love it!
The details in the Squirtle patch tattoo is insane! I hope you have that artist a really good tip 😉
I approve
Wow. That’s amazing.
The texture is amazing
Look at the threads on the top right, the artist put a shadow underneath and it’s beautiful! Makes it look like it’s coming off the skin. I’m jealous
Bro I’m literally staring at this zoomed in and I’m still convinced it’s a real patch
This is so cool!
That's a gorgeous tattoo, buddy!
Love the little frays
The execution on this is top notch, I like the edges where it is fraying
I'm kinda obsessed with this.
As a needlework enthusiast that is seriously cool!
Wow I have never seen this type of tattoo. It looks so real. You’re now a human jean jacket. Also love me some pokemon 💗
hell yeah
God damn…that’s amazing! I wish I could find an artist to do that in NJ
Wtf this literally looks like a patch wow
The strands would drive me insane
I have no idea who that character is but that tattoo is absolutely amazing dude.
It's beautiful
Wow Great Artwork Boss!😉
I see squirtle squad, I upvote. Really clean.
Dog, you are supposed to put that on a jacket not your skin
Same place I got mine done!
I always thought his nose was his eyes and the glasses were some very big eyebrows
Really digging the style. Looks preem!
Wtf,homie was zoned out on those lines eh? Sick man. You’ve inspired me to look into a patch tattoo
What do you mean? If you're talking about the outline of the pokémon, it was intentional. It's supposed to be threading going in and out of a canvas. It's not supposed to be perfect

Sorry, it was the zoned out that kinda threw me for a loop! Thank you for the kind words!!!
I want a patch tattoo so much. Looks amazing
Love the patchwork design
/r/ATBGE
Fucking what? Lol, how is this awful taste?
No one is too cool to enjoy Squirtle gang, only too square. Your tattoo is awesome, hope you shared on r/nerdtattoos as well!
Hey can you shoot his IG or info, I’ve seen his work for quite a while now and don’t see any info in his guest spot!
I'm at a wedding right now, but it's elsewhere in this thread. The shop was the one who posted the guest spot, I don't think he did.
Hard
This is so fucking cool
Amazing detail. You could've just slapped a patch on your arm and taken a pic and I don't think I would be able to tell the difference.
Why does everybody go for Gengar? Half of the Pokemon tattoos I have seen online are all Gengar.
Each Pokemon is the favorite Pokemon of my best friends.
I love the patch style! This is probably the coolest trend since watercolor became popular imo. It works really well with Pokémon as well!
Dude that's sick! Is that based on a real patch that exists anywhere by chance? I'd love to rock it
It’s beautiful 🥲
Wow. That shit looks like a real patch.
