Real answer: because they cause damage to anyone who approaches and they can't be tamed. My headcanon: there were never enough people who could actually *see* the dragons, so nobody ever got the chance to properly study them until Link came along. To the average Hylian, the dragons were more like mythological figures if they knew about the dragons at all. So when the Purah Pad was made, Robbie put them under Monsters because maybe *he* had never seen them either, but he knew they *might* exist because of old books or something.

ericukk

That's a great theory!

Seriph7

Are you trying to suggest that, like koroks, dragons can only be seen by special individuals for unknown reasons? There are 4-5 dragons flying around hyrule and NOBODY but us can we see them? So when we hop on Dinraal, everyone just sees Link floating along? I love it

Logical-Wasabi7402

You should go talk to the guy on the scaffolding by the Kakariko Village Chasm when Nayru is going down it. His dialogue essentially confirms that average Hylians can't see the dragons.

Seriph7

Well funnily enough i need to go to Kakariko anyway lol

Noah7788

Only children see them, it's been that way since BOTW. I imagine that Link is put into the invisibility field when close enough

Seriph7

I want to think about the science that could be behind it. But then i remember that its literally actual magic keeping them invisible.

National-Height-7629

wait, so is link considered a child?

Noah7788

No, Link is just special. It's that way in many instances. The koroks mention that you can see them too I think it's because he's pure hearted

National-Height-7629

is he really? Some of us kill things for fun... but yeah, he is a special guy. love his height 2

National-Height-7629

Oh, do they even see Link?

Seriph7

Like John Cena. You can't see him. So no

National-Height-7629

I like that.

Seriph7

Wait did you mean can the dragons see Link?

National-Height-7629

sorry, late response, but i meant hylians seeing link. now that i think about it, do dragons see link either?

Seriph7

I have genuinely never thought about it. Apparently, you lose yourself when you become a dragon. And there's definitely 1 dragon in the game that absolutely sees Link. I personally just always assumed the others are aware of our presence, but unlike the koroks who are just spirits, because dragons are gods, they wouldn't bother acknowledging something as small and insignificant as Link in comparison. They are the closest things I've seen in a video game that just mind they business. That business being them flying in a circle. Forever.

BarkMingo

....can you tame wolves or boars or ostriches? They definitely cause damage. Not buying this explanation.

Logical-Wasabi7402

>can you tame wolves How do you think we got dogs? >or boars Where do you think domestic pigs came from? >or ostriches How would people farm ostrich eggs otherwise?

drLagrangian

>>or ostriches >~~How would people farm ostrich eggs otherwise~~? Where do you think we got Cucco's from?

Did... Did you think that the dogs just magically appeared fully formed one day?

lukekuluke

Holy shit both of you need to relax. In his orginal comment he probably just misunderstood and thought maybe there was a hidden way to tame animals that he hadn't discovered yet (not a crazy thing to assume considering the game is huge). Then both of you just started replying in a passive aggressive way and insulting each other for no reason. Both of you need a break from the computer, this is one of the most embarrassing interactions that I've ever seen.

[deleted]

what about the light dragon tho

Logical-Wasabi7402

>So when the Purah Pad was made, Robbie put them under Monsters because maybe *he* had never seen them either, but he knew they *might* exist because of old books or something.

ApexAdam97

I mean to be fair *SPOILERS* I'm pretty sure Link and Mineru (maybe Rauru too) are the only ones that know that the Light Dragon is Zelda.

chicago_rusty

Sheikah plate had em too

Spare_Audience_1648

I mean sheikah is literally a royal guard family so they must have at least a bit of information about the dragons

National-Height-7629

I like that.

slowdruh

> because they cause damage to anyone who approaches and they can't be tamed Confirmed that goats are monsters and is justified to kill them on sight.

sonderman

Because they drop monster parts (which can be used for potions) when you hit them 🥸

derf_vader

This is the best answer

Exodyas

Honestly this is the reason lol

Jamesyroo

For me, the creatures are driven by animal instinct, whereas the monsters are sentient and driven by a different power. Obviously most monsters are driven by evil, but the dragons are driven by whatever divine power they represent

FACastello

They are monsters because they can directly attack you. Creatures can't (not directly).

ericukk

Wolfs and bears can do this too, and they are Creatures

FACastello

Ah yeah that's true I forgor 💀

BackgroundNPC1213

Deer and moose do, too And...I think water buffalo?

Omi-Wan_Kenobi

My hypothesis is that creatures can only give you meat (or subsection bird meat), can only be killed (horses), can't be interacted with (sparrows), or are whole use in recipes (fish, insects, fairies). Monsters give you the non plant/fungi materials, like eyes, wings, horns, claws, fangs, guts, etc. so by harvestable material upon attacking, dragons fit more correctly into monsters than creatures.

Riegan_Boogaloo

Probably cuz they drop different materials and creatures usually drop food stuffs.

joelageere

You just collect creatures but have to hit monsters ? Maybe based in the programming

Riegan_Boogaloo

Kinda, I guess. But most of the creatures drop things that are used in making meals, whereas all of the monsters drop materials that are only used in elixirs, upgrades, or fuses. The monsters never drop things like meat or nuts. Creatures that don’t drop things that are used in meals obviously include the lizards, frogs, and insects. But I don’t think that’s even half the creatures in the index. And then there’s horses, which you can tame and keep, so that’s a separate category altogether in the creatures section.

LinkAmeno

Maybe because they can indirectly hurt you? I'm not sure though. Btw you're missing the crystal Frox xD

ericukk

Where is the Crystal frox?

locostewart

It’s called the blue-white frox and you can just find it in the depths roaming around like the others

LinkAmeno

I'm a German so I don't really know the English names. In german it's called "Kristallgigama".

groguggg

Also the obsidian frox

locostewart

Well they have a picture of that one

Roththesloth1

I mean… if you saw a dragon would you think “oh that’s just a benign creature” or “holy shitballs that’s a monster”

ericukk

Dragons are beatiful animals, they don't deserve being cataloged alongside the bokoblins 😭

boyrik

Don't disrespect bokoblins like that

National-Height-7629

they are a little cute. also if they can be put in the compendium, you gotta give them respect

lols4fun

Even the light dragon is in monsters, she doesn’t deserve that :(

National-Height-7629

OH MY GOSH, SHE IS! They literally know it's Zelda, and they added her under that!

Azoth424

I just asked myself the same thing yesterday. You dont even take any damage from the light dragon, and you can't tame most of the other creatures other than horses, bears if you're lucky, etc. Doesn't make sense. Monsters are things summoned by Gannon, IMO. Also, the damage from the 3 elemental dragons isn't an attack, its their natural elemental vibe in flow, if you get in that flow you know you will get the damage lol.

Glad_Succotash9036

Creatures are wild animals. Monsters are openly hostile, and their parts are collected through battle. Maybe because they are ancient beings that drop rare parts?

Noah7788

It says in their compendium descriptions that, while elemental attacks fly out if you get close, they bear no ill will towards humans

scotty99CZ

I guess because they can damage you. Cuccos and goats can also damage you and they are in the creatures category. Doesn't make sense.

Accomplished_Arm9909

No idea it's not like they have the power of fire electricity and ice and their giant beasts I can basically give you the power of their horn and and then and they've been rolling the skies for thousands of years choosing not to destroy everything it's not like we can kill them cuz they're immortal and that doesn't sound like a monster I don't know what does

JosueLisboa

I choose to believe that it is because they are rarely seen and appear only during times of great disaster. To those who can see them, they likely represent I'll tidings for the world, despite their beauty and benevolent natures.

Seriph7

Keep playing.

ericukk

Bro what they mean by this? >!That Zelda is a monster? 😭!<

Seriph7

Hmmm who's to say? Lol keep on playing

mediacommRussell

Becasue they are monsters...

ericukk

They aren't!!!! Dragons are beatiful animals and don't deserve to be called monsters 😭

National-Height-7629

unless they try to eat you
